Visit Activia.ca for more details. Winning if you can. It's reading lyrics to an ACDC song. There's verses and pre-chorus, if you want me to do it right, Brandon. We've established, I don't, this, I don't care for this opening, these openings at all, but we box ourselves into a corner. I'll just, I'll start at the last line of the pre-chorus, because I can't really remember how it goes now.
Starting point is 00:01:48 I'm going to get you. Satan get you. Oh, hell's bad. Yeah, hell, riches. ACDC When the third credit that pops up is music by ACDC you know
Starting point is 00:02:22 and the first two credits were written and directed by Stephen King you know we're in for a treat Heath I this is one of those movies I was laughing so hard in the kill scenes they are just the truck kill scenes
Starting point is 00:02:41 where they were running those people over that like that was incredible and like the way they showed the people getting run over was fantastic cinematography it was I was laughing so hard every time someone died it was just incredible stuff all the way through it's it's the perfect like 80s ridiculousness did you say who did you introduce the podcast No, not yet. Introduce the podcast and then we'll start because the kid's seen at the freaking ballpark is amazing. Coach getting murdered with cans of pop.
Starting point is 00:03:24 That would be. Yeah. Traumatizing. That was a rough one. Well, there were. I don't know why. Dude,
Starting point is 00:03:31 the coach did not need to just stand there and take 10 cans of pop to the face at full speed. Well, he got hitting the balls with the first shot. So he's stuck. right he's he's motionless he's in shock and then he takes another to the gut and then he takes the remaining seven to the dome he didn't you know yeah but so this is the cake here's podcast everybody that is heath uh he's otherwise known as acdc yeah with our omen who's the lead singer of acdc it's not uh i must said van haelin the lead singer of acdc is van haylin that would be i
Starting point is 00:04:12 i can't think of the name although i know as soon as i hear it do they have one it's an older one now they have like a new uh new guy right is that acdc i always get acdc and uh angus young that's what i was thinking of angus young is the um leads here is he still alive he's still alive i always get acdc mixed up with another band and that's who i think that's who i'm thinking of that has now Angus Young is the lead singer of ACDC Yeah yeah but I was thinking ACDC had a newer Singer but that's the other band that I was mixed up that I can't think of
Starting point is 00:04:55 Anyway I'm not a big ACDC guy And Kelly maybe just got home from the farmer's market Oh But like I was saying before you interrupted me with your ACDC talk Your Angus Young talk This is the kickers podcast we're doing the 1986 Stephen King classic Keith maximum overdrive to the max did you catch when they dropped the name of the movie loved it yeah loved it was so good that's I love when that happens she
Starting point is 00:05:33 did what did she said again didn't even make any sense I see she just was like maximum overdrive yeah we just got to get into maximum overdrive no she said it was like the machines were going into maximum overdrive. Yeah, there you go. Dude, this, a bit more topical now. Like, dude, with some of the machines we have now and the AI and stuff,
Starting point is 00:05:55 like this, you could do some real damage with, like, don't, don't give this movie more credit than it deserves. This isn't, this isn't a technology. This movie is way ahead of its time, Brandon. The reason the machines come to live is because we're stuck in the, because the aliens, because we're stuck in the trail. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:13 of a comet, right? And then the aliens are using that to control the machines to sweep us away like a broom, I believe is what Emilio says, right? Yeah, exactly. Yeah, sweep us aware. So not AI related. This is an alien movie. Aliens, AI, probably the same thing. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Do you don't think aliens could use our AI machines in a better fashion? I'd nowadays than they could like like 2026 40 years later you don't think that some of these electric cars like dude it's it's over they don't have to worry about getting fueled up it's got to get plugged in keep that electricity on maximum overdrive so that's that's a good you bring it a good point I have some questions about what constitutes a machine in this world it's very confusing because like a mower they didn't have electric mowers and now unless you have the battery in it like how's the electric mower going to get power but like how did those like gas powered machines get turned on electronic i don't know i don't know if it would probably sound like an idiot they had they were able to control electronics i don't think it was just electronics though i think it mentions like all like all machines or something like that It doesn't necessarily need electronics. It's just any form of what you would consider a quote-unquote machine.
Starting point is 00:07:44 Yes, but then they also, it's like controlling the sprinkler attachment. At one point, remember when the kids biking through the neighborhood and the sprinklers are going all crazy? That I didn't, that I didn't understand because that's not a machine, I don't think. I felt like it was more just for effect. Yeah, but they were, so you could show that they were tailing them because that was an automatic. But that confused the fuck out of me Well I thought the same thing too Because I was like I don't think they had like automatic sprinklers like that
Starting point is 00:08:13 Like those the way those were set up it looked like there was just a sprinkler attached to a hose Yeah yeah they were yeah They didn't look like it had any form of like Electricity attached to it or even like sprinkler Or even or even gears you know Yeah yeah that's what was confusing the fuck on me Because there's definitely just the attachments on the hose It was a sick aesthetic though
Starting point is 00:08:36 is driving it i will see there's a lot of scenes in this movie that looked cool as fuck like there's that scene and then the other scene with the kid that i thought was beautifully shot is when he's in the neighborhood he and he stops in like the middle of the intersection because he hears the ice cream truck and then it like pans over to the ice cream truck and then pans back over and by the time it pans back over the kid's gone yeah about that that was a beautiful shot that was beautiful the uh the cover of this like movie is so good too like the cover art all the different cover arts for it
Starting point is 00:09:13 classic stuff I'm looking at one right now where it's like it Stephen King has has them on like uh puppet strings that doesn't make any sense I don't see that one but um this is incredible it was such a like I was I was like it actually took me a And it's like, oh, my God. I think that like, I was like, oh, my God, this is Stephen King.
Starting point is 00:09:41 This is a horror movie because I was laughing so hard, Brandon. And then I was like, why does it feel like it has the tone of a horror movie? And I was like, oh, my God, it is. Like, this is a horror picture. And it's a Stephen King flick. And I just, I was, I thought it was hilarious. Emilio being the cook in the back. just crushed it that the girl the lady that does all the voices from the simpsons yeah so she
Starting point is 00:10:13 yes her her and her husband i fucking loved they were cracking me up when he when she goes oh my god when she goes i need to we we it's it's definitely okay if we stop because i got to go to the bathroom and he goes can i come in and watch oh my god yes i forgot about that what a what a fucking line dude oh my god And then the priest guy at the the the like a con artist priest he was cracking me up. Uh this movie is just yeah so fun so fun fact the movie is based on a Stephen King short story. I believe the short story is called trucks. Oh interesting.
Starting point is 00:10:59 I could be getting that wrong but I know so this is movie uh it's based on that short story by Stephen King. So they turned it into a movie Stephen King also directed this movie It's his only directing credit as you can see Because he was fucking terrible at it But he also he admitted Stephen King later admitted that he was Coked out of his mind during the production
Starting point is 00:11:23 And often didn't know what he was doing He That makes perfect sense actually He said I would like to try directing again someday but sober I mean it makes perfect sense It's it's ridiculous This fucking movie is just
Starting point is 00:11:47 Like I I'm I like Stephen King I enjoy Stephen King I enjoy his hits like His really good stuff He's one of those people that like He has so much Work out there
Starting point is 00:12:03 Yeah 85% of it is like this It's utter garb It's coked out nonsense garbage. But that top 15% is so good. You know? And this was during the time where, like he mentions, everybody's all coked up. And this is during the time when he, this is like the height of Stephen King.
Starting point is 00:12:25 Like he can do, they are literally letting him do anything and everything that he wants. He can do no wrong. And when you leave Stephen King unchecked, you get nonsense, right? yeah i mean even his even his good even his good stuff like it and like the shining and like his top-notch stuff there's always like two or three um chapters or like side plots in his shit where you're like what the fuck are we doing dude like it like it has the whole um like sex in the tunnel scene oh i forgot about that yeah and there's just there's at least one little scene or chapter in all of the stuff where you're like, what are we doing, Stephen?
Starting point is 00:13:11 What are we doing? And this movie is just... What are we doing, Stephen? This movie is just nonstop. What the fuck are we doing, Stephen? And just... Now that you say that and then thinking back on the movie, all the decisions made by every character makes so much more sense
Starting point is 00:13:35 if the core driver behind this movie is, someone hopped up on 80s cocaine. It actually helps. But the absolute highlight, like, because Emilio and the girl fall deeply in love. And, you know, I got, I have thoughts about her. She's the most poorly written woman character, I think I've ever seen. She was like a hitchhiker that hopped in with the crazy. So she goes Bible guy and salesman guy.
Starting point is 00:14:07 She's trying to run away. And then they end up at the same truck stop that Amelia works at. And her first lines to Emilio are, you're really cute. That's her first line to him. And then 10 minutes later, they're falling in love and they're having sex. And then after they have sex, she turns to, because there's another scene earlier where he, he talks about why he's on parole. And it's like, it makes him look like,
Starting point is 00:14:38 like a fucking pussy yeah and um she says something to him about being a hero whatever but so then cut to them having sex she goes she rolls over to him after right after they have sex and she goes you you you you you fuck like a hero or something like that and then and then a couple minutes later he like devises a plan or whatever to to start doing and she goes wow not only are you a hero you're a genius. Like her her nobody talks like that first of all. It's like she's so poorly written. It's crazy. I in my fan, isn't she the one that says I ain't never seen a hero with his ass in the air like that. Oh yeah. That's yes that's later on after the him and the the one dude grenade the the one of the cars and they're running back in and yeah they get
Starting point is 00:15:36 to they like dive into the store and get into the fetal position because shit's exploding yeah and yeah and she goes yeah i i've never seen a hero with her ass in the air like that yeah she hurt she was a she was such a poorly written character it was crazy based on the reviews you either love this or hate this like one review is super jazz that the kid got hit with the steamroller That was my favorite scene when he gets run over with a steamroller. That was amazing. I could,
Starting point is 00:16:10 as soon as the scene roller started coming, I was like, son of a bitch. It butts through the scoreboard. Yeah, I know. As soon as it did that, I was like,
Starting point is 00:16:19 oh my God, this, the trauma of the kid who watched his coach get murdered by a pop machine and then watch his friend get squashed flat by a steamroller. And then was chased by machines down the street on a, on his bike. Like this kid is how he's holding up. And his dad gets run over.
Starting point is 00:16:41 He doesn't see that, but his dad gets run over. Dad gets run. I mean, just, just wild stuff. And it, it was everything about it is fantastic. If you like terrible, can't be horror movies,
Starting point is 00:17:01 this is for you 100%. Like that's, that's why I think it's, It's super hit or miss because like if you like the worst kind of 80s horror movies, this is going to be so far up your alley. But if you have no desire to watch movies so bad, they're hilarious, then this is never going to be for you. Yeah. Yeah, this is what like I said, like I said. This one hit the nail on the so bad.
Starting point is 00:17:27 It's kind of good. Yes. This is perfect for that. Yeah. It's. Yeah. Yeah. Everything about this movie.
Starting point is 00:17:36 is just so like when so he so Emilio works at this truck stop as a as a chef he's he's cooking on the flat top that flap top when they cut to Wanda June on the flat top and there's just burnt eggs and hash browns all like that flattop looked horrific I don't know what amelia is doing he clearly doesn't know how to cook he is not a chef but and then you find out he's got eggs on then you find out he's on parole and I got to I got to talk about this because okay so you're you're your you're old as fuck right so you you've dealt with time cards before right punching yeah oh my so I I forgot about I had I had one job when I very first started working when I was like 13 14
Starting point is 00:18:26 years old um at the mini golf place when I first tacos them more for me it was Sandy had punch punch cards for a bit I say the first like year I worked at the mini golf place. They had punch, punch in and punch out cards. And then they, you know, got the software and all that.
Starting point is 00:18:42 So I don't have a ton of experience with punching and punch out cards. That being said, he, he is, I have to know if it was a personal choice by the owner of the truck stop or if that's just how the state of North Carolina works, where they, they put a star sticker on your punch card if you're on parole.
Starting point is 00:19:04 he's like he's like you see that because he's like blackmailing or uh he's trying to you know pay bombay less money for more work so he's like you know yeah and he and bombay's on parole so he's like i own you see this you know what this sticker on your card means that means parole buddy and then i'm pretty that's illegal brandon i was like why are we putting this he so he's just putting a start on every and then the best part is like a couple minutes later um Emilio's going through, he's looking at all the punch cards, there's a lot of stars. I think one card even had two stars. I don't know what two stars means.
Starting point is 00:19:45 But that threw me for a loop to put a star sticker on the parole to notify, to signify that he's on parole. That was why. But the flat top was gross. And then Wanda June hops on the flat top and the turkey carver. Is that what that was? The little saw The saw thing that turns on in a taxi? Yes, it's a meat carver and it jumps
Starting point is 00:20:13 It just jumps up and attacks her arm. Yeah, right in the forearm, dude. When that happened, I was like, that's, That was such a, that was such a bad scene, right? Oh, yeah. Jumps up and just starts, and it just starts like, holding itself in mid-air, sawing at her arm and they can't get it away from her arm. It's like, why can't you get this little thing away from yours?
Starting point is 00:20:43 It was so strong. They couldn't get the meat carver away. It was, oh, my God. Yeah, it's, but like I said, this, now reading the IMDB and you saying he was just crashed out on cocaine, this movie makes so much more sense now. Before it didn't make sense to me. Now it makes perfect sense. And this is exactly how I would direct this same movie if I was coked out of my gourd in 1986.
Starting point is 00:21:13 Yeah. It's just wild. And then like halfway through the movie, we find out that there is like a full armory underneath the truck stop. The guy's a bazooka. They shoot a bazooka like five times. No, that guy has more bazooka like. what are they bombs bazooka cannon I don't know
Starting point is 00:21:36 ammo ammo they have more bazooka ammo than any normal human being should most governments they they shoot that thing at minimum five times yes at minimum yeah and then he's got a bunch of grenades too
Starting point is 00:21:54 they use the grenades he's fucking yeah he's he's loaded out did the guy in the archa there that is just picking up all the cigarettes that that was a great move but he and then just gets murdered so hard thinking he's living in the high life pocket full of coins and cigarettes living the high life and next thing you know he's dead
Starting point is 00:22:18 I know what was it Starcastle is that the game he touched and fucking shazaped him yeah don't play Star Castle all been there uh this is this fucking movie. It's so good. Yeah, they got the bazookas.
Starting point is 00:22:34 There's, um, at the very beginning, they, it sprays the one dude, the, the, the kid's dad.
Starting point is 00:22:41 It sprays him in the eye with, with gasoline. And then he's all, yeah. And he's like, I got to go find my kid. Even though he can't see, he's like legally blind.
Starting point is 00:22:51 And then he gets run, run over by a truck. I love how they, they, wait, I'm getting an, like, I have maximum,
Starting point is 00:23:02 overdrive pulled up on IMDB and I'm literally getting an ad for game changers saying now streaming mighty ducks yeah on now streaming on Disney or what is yeah huh are we get did they put it back out up there I don't see I have to watch it tonight just for old time say dude just just for old time see So maximum overdrive is on 2B again. It's still not there. Nice. Okay.
Starting point is 00:23:44 So that was just IMDB listening to us and putting fake news on the ads. But so maximum overdrive is on 2B. And I am becoming obsessed with 2B. Tube is the best. It is literally, Tube and Pluto. Those are the top notch app. I feel like Tobe has been cultivated from my Amazon credit, like digital credit purchases. Like it has all the bangers, surf ninjas, all of the three ninja follow-ups.
Starting point is 00:24:24 Like even the terrible one with Ernest is the bad guy and Hulk Ogan as he's, I don't know why he's in there, but he's in there. Dude, it's, they've got the, they got saved by the bell, Brandon, in order. That has been grinding my gears for forever. You know this. And now it's in order on Tubi. Shout out to be. It is the best thing that has happened in television. It's got Noel likes the busy world of Richard scary.
Starting point is 00:24:52 You know, like that's a real banger. A lot of good life lessons in there. So. More life lessons than maximum overdraft? No, no. not as many there because that's dude i will say the simpsons lady the way she screams is just her losing her mind is throughout the movie is amazing i love it her yell was so annoying though but it was it was great to why and like when she was just all worked up and yelling it was
Starting point is 00:25:24 it was great stuff uh yeah this this fucking movie i do want to point out So this is 1986. This is 1986. So this is post. This is post breakfast club? Yeah. But like pre what other movies?
Starting point is 00:25:45 We did. Yeah. So this is post breakfast club, but free all of the other amelios that we've watched, Minut Work, Free Jack, the Young Guns, Judgment Night. and Emilio looks amazing in this movie I was always I so I've never seen this movie before I've known of it because it's a because I it's just a crazy Stephen King movie but I remember I never got because you would hear people talking about like the the brat pack and you know how hot they were and Amelia would get lumped in there
Starting point is 00:26:29 with like the heart throbs and um having most of my knowledge of amelio being mighty ducks i don't get it he's like you know he's good looking but he's not like a you know heart throbs yeah he's not like he's not as like you know pretty boy good looking as like charlie sheath his brother or like rob low and like the rest of the brat pack yeah but then but then watching this movie i was like oh okay i get it he looks he looks he looks hot as in this movie dude he does he i mean he has the young handsome aesthetic he always he has that that he his eyes are like glistening so it always looks like he's about to cry he's got that look going i know the ladies love that ladies love the sad boys he's
Starting point is 00:27:22 he's uh he did he looked like someone that the ladies kids kids just scoop up and you know like hold tenderly too oh for sure yeah because again it's amelio so he's 5-7 yeah he's so pretty i we talked about this in free jack where uh was it rene russo was that romey russo in free jack that was maybe taller than amelio and they did they didn't do anything to try to hide that and i they did the same thing here this girl's like a couple inches taller than amelio and they don't they don't fucking care yeah and you know that's i i think i said it in in free check that's refreshing you don't see that in this day and age they would like do some weird trick shots or they'd have him on you know a booster or something to make him look at least the same height yeah now they you know shout out right like live your life short kings yeah dude amelia was the first short king brandon i was so i was looking i've been looking at apartments because i'm moving
Starting point is 00:28:23 and I went to I looked at a place in like like Glendale area is yesterday Good luck Glendale is interesting I the so this is like a little farther south than Glendale
Starting point is 00:28:40 probably like five ten minutes south of Glendale I've looked at Glendale before it's not terrible depends where you live I guess Yeah but this place wasn't bad This place was actually pretty good but I went there. It was like noon on a Saturday
Starting point is 00:28:56 and so many fucking kids, dude, just running around. I was like, I don't want to deal with that. But the moral of that story, the dude who was giving me that apartment tour was tiny. He was maybe like 5, 4. And it startled me because I walked, when I walked into the,
Starting point is 00:29:22 office he was sitting down so I couldn't gauge height and then when I so I just sat down at his desk and we were talking for you know getting everything set up and I don't know if he I don't know if he had his like how how the seats were set up but when we were sitting down we were eye level like I had no reason to to assume that he was shorter than me to look an eye level at him and then we got up and he was five four and I was like oh oh was I was not ready for that your height is aren't you Brandon. No, I wasn't, it, it wasn't anything, you know, degrading or delicious. It was more, it was more just shock.
Starting point is 00:30:00 I was so heightest of you, Brandon. I was expecting him to be up here and he was down there. It just threw me off. Took me a second to adjust. Down there, Brandon? Down there. Yeah, down there. Anyways, who was your favorite character in this movie?
Starting point is 00:30:19 Because for me, it's hard to pick. The sleazy Bible salesman was a real piece of work, but it was his insane death where they almost brought, like, was crazy. But the owner of the truck stop was. So I thought the Bible guy was dead when he first got shot into the creek. I was not expecting him to come back to life. So, yeah, that was crazy. The kid did a great job. Kid crushed it.
Starting point is 00:30:50 The truck stop. owner was fantastic. Did you recognize who that was? No, I mean, he's in stuff. That's Commissioner Gordon from the Oh, which the, uh, the, the, the old
Starting point is 00:31:05 what's, what's the Tim Burton, the Tim Burton ones? Yes. Oh, dude, those Tim Burton ones are real bangers too. They're solid. I love Michael Keaton is bad man all on board. Oh, yeah. But that's, uh, he plays commissioner Gordon in those ones.
Starting point is 00:31:21 If you want a $3,000 a month payday for life, what would you feel free to do? Maybe take a long weekend, every weekend, or try a bunch of new hobbies. Starting point is 00:31:49 And he's in Talladega nights. Oh, yeah. Yep. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Definitely. Um, but this movie that we, I'm trying to look at my notes. I'm trying to, we touched on quite a bit already.
Starting point is 00:32:12 The kid getting squished and then the, the dude asking his wife, if you can come watch your, uh, take a piss in the bathroom. It was amazing. Um, that couple was the highlight for me. they were great like that their whole dynamic when he when he because dodges yeah but that's like the second line i think he has in the movie is when he when he asked if he can come watch her in the bathroom dude that's a that's a that's a coke line right there that's like oh my god dude ask her to watch her pete that's a married couples dude ask her to watch your pete right do you have that's a coke line hundred birthday two that just reminded me every once in a while um have you ever seen it comes up on like zillow uh zillow
Starting point is 00:33:00 gone wild every once in a while where it'll it'll be uh a bathroom with like two uh a home bathroom like a residential bathroom and it's two toilets right next to each other you have you seen that before like for battle shits gross i've seen it like three or four times sometimes i think one of them had like a wall between like a half wall between yikes but i've seen it where it's just right next to each other. It always cracks me up. No, I, no. That's, dude, that's a, that's a big no go for me.
Starting point is 00:33:36 Clearly, you don't want to, you don't want to come in and watch. You fucking nerd, you prude? You prude? I guess, I guess. That's your Midwestern prudeness showing right there. Dude, if that's being prude, I, sign me up. saying yeah but but i was saying for that to be his second line i was real i was real worried i was like oh these i was like these guys are these guys are gonna fucking suck but then they they turned they
Starting point is 00:34:04 turned it around and when she was like i knew i shouldn't have let you drive again classic when she gets when they get flipped up or whatever yeah she's caught the seatbelt and she's just screaming she's like you stupid idiot come down you damn me and then amelio pops in and She's like, who the fuck are you? Get the fuck away from me. She was great. Yeah, she did a great job. It's almost like she would go on to starring the Simpsons.
Starting point is 00:34:33 Yeah, Lisa. Lisa. And a whole bunch of other voices, too, I think, right? Yeah, all kinds, but mostly Lisa. Yeah. The preacher guy was amazing, too. I'm the son of a preacher man. I was going to.
Starting point is 00:34:50 I was going to. if i was going to suggest you seeing the song he was singing to open us up and say the acdc what was he singing it was just some jesus song i forget i forget exactly what it was but uh and when he started going in on the sales pitch for that couple oh my god like i know genuine colored pictures uh top to bottom i think is what he says on the page something like some kid was trying to solicit us the other day kelly's like who is that i was like just wait, I think he's soliciting us. He'll probably leave and he left.
Starting point is 00:35:24 Oh, you didn't even have to get a no soliciting sign or you'll get murdered. Should you get a no murdering sign? Yeah. Well, I should put, I want to do something extreme like I live in Texas where I'm going to be like, I've got one gift for my solicitors and it's old Bessie's bullets. I don't know. It's something like that. You can do that.
Starting point is 00:35:46 You can do guns don't kill people. I kill people. Yeah. That's a classic. It's dogs don't bite solicitor's ideal. Wow. It was like a chat growl. Who was that?
Starting point is 00:36:04 Rao. It wasn't quite a meow, but it was very, it was very, very feline. So dude, did you imagine how much that would scare people? You should record that and then when they ring the doorbell have that message playback. That's the ring cam, doorbell that happens and it says it on the on the doormat and then it's me saying. Oh, yes. We're out of something here.
Starting point is 00:36:43 But so to get back to the movie, like you said, like you said, the kid crushes it. I knew right away too that it was that it was Duncan's kid. I knew it. The kid's name is Duncan. What was his dad's name? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:37:00 Clarence. This definitely wasn't Clarence. But Jim. His adventures to get to that fucking truck stop were wild. He's a survivor. He's a harrowing tale. He watches all of his teammates
Starting point is 00:37:18 get killed by by shooting pop cans. Dude, and like some of those kids got sniped from across the field. Two of them. When he's running away, there's two dead bodies on the, on the can. And I, I mean, that had to have been like to the vertebrae or something to like break the back to kill him like that. Or maybe it just knocked them out.
Starting point is 00:37:39 I say, it might remember just a headshot. Although their headshot could have killed them too, because that's a full can of soda being launched. That's true. That's true. That's heavy. That's a projectile. Those things were coming out, huh? If I had to put, I would, I would guess like 75 miles an hour, those things are coming out.
Starting point is 00:37:56 That's death for sure. Yeah. Yeah, you catch that to the side of your, you know, 12-year-old head. Dunzo, dude. You catch that to your back. That's, that's shattering vertebrae. Yeah. A couple broken ribs.
Starting point is 00:38:10 Yeah. But he survives. He's smart. He throws the catcher mask up. Takes a couple. Ears to the face Yeah a couple off the dome And then he runs
Starting point is 00:38:22 Then he runs away and watches his other friend Get just smashed into the ground dude Yeah Dude in Wanda June We made you That was Some of the funniest shit ever We made you
Starting point is 00:38:39 Because she does it twice Yeah it's like When she ran out there I was like We're doing this again huh we're doing we're doing this with good old wanda june she's just she's finally just been pushed over the edge and that's what happens when you get a fucking turkey carved man well the thing is is like there's a military gun out there and you decide like now it's the perfect time i'm gonna go out there they
Starting point is 00:39:08 definitely won't shoot me she she runs right up to it and is staring directly down the barrel that I just it that was insane like wand to June what are you doing women right he's women pantin dad you're the worst uh now she yeah she was crazy she was crazy and yeah like I said the what was what's the Brett right is the the love interest theme I think it's Brett I think so I'm fine she was I just she was so poorly written the die like I care for her for i for you're real cute to be her first line to amelio is wild like well brandon you have a hard time with women making the first move no actually i i vastly prefer women to make the first move because i don't want to make the first move um but no just the the way she did it after she
Starting point is 00:40:07 we we're after we're watching all of these this mayhem these cars and she just turns to them He's like, you're real cute. And then she calls him a... To be like after having sex, to be like, you fuck like a hero is wild, dude. It's wild. That's a, that's a dude who's high on cocaine being like, you know what? I would, dude, I fuck so good. I fuck like a hero.
Starting point is 00:40:33 Obviously, you haven't been having the right kind of time, Brandon. That's on it's. Obviously, I'm not fucking like a hero because I've never had anybody say that to me. That's, to me, that's the craziest thing out of all this. I've had, I've had, uh, ladies say, now that was some good loving. I've heard that before, but never, never you fuck like a hero. Stop. I've got, I've got, I've gotten, I've gotten jack rabbit before, but not hero.
Starting point is 00:41:10 Oh my God. Stop. Oh, you are so dumb, Brandon. Oh my God, 14% on rotten tomatoes for maximum overdrive. Did you see that? 14% 14% rotten tomatoes is rough. It has a 5.4 on IMDB.
Starting point is 00:41:41 That's that terrible. That's above average, bro. Yeah, that's around the same as like Keenan and Kel 2. That's a that's a that's a C's getting. degrees score right there. How do you, is there a way to find comparing and contrasting 5.4 ratings so you can see what other films? Oh.
Starting point is 00:42:03 Oh. Can you? I don't think so. I don't think so. That's what you need because I'd be curious about what other films are on the same level. Because like this is a bad movie, but at least it's funny, you know, some movies that are rated higher than this. aren't funny they're just bad yeah this is this is classic 80s can't be fun i mean this is what cocaine gets you know yeah so i got can you look at oh this is oh you can you can oh god where to go
Starting point is 00:42:38 keep riffing vamp for a little bit let me figure out how to do this oh geez i don't know how to be a vampire um but i do have to say the the truck choices were also very interesting. Like they had the demon truck was cool as hell, but then they have like the crazy trash truck. Yeah, that was so cool. There was a, at the very,
Starting point is 00:43:07 very beginning when the bridge is getting pulled up, there was a truck of watermelons. That was, oh my gosh, I forgot about the bridge getting pulled up. And then it just, everything just rolling back and everyone getting crushed and falling through windshields.
Starting point is 00:43:21 and that lady getting attacked by the watermelon. That was, that was wild stuff too. The motorcycle guy jumping off and having the longest scream. It lasted so long. And then I love to have the, the operators come out and the old one starts like freaking out. He's like, we've got a goddamn situation here.
Starting point is 00:43:40 Can't you see what's going on? Oh my God. After they were playing poker, just relaxing on the job. That's it. Thank God for Tooby, though. I think that's the real. lesson in this movie brandon is thank god for to be for existing to allow us to watch all these amazing movies back again for free they've been clutch for our amelio kick that we've been on
Starting point is 00:44:05 they've had most of the amelia movies on there we should just only do amelio for the next year we're probably running out though no well we're running out of like the fun ones there's a lot of like serious ones that he that he's done um well we definitely will have some more amelia movies for sure though but i i i was able to figure this out for you he's our your 5.4s you want to hear some yeah yeah uh so this is movies rated 5.4 on i mdb number one on the list yeah twilight oh twilight and maximum overdrive same i mdb rating we've got the 1987 Masters of the Universe. Oh, that movie's real bad, though.
Starting point is 00:44:57 It's definitely, that is a good comparison to this, actually. We've got a scary movie two. Oh, what? That one was, isn't that the Take My Strong Hand one? Yeah, that's scary movie too. That one was a banger, huh? We've got, what else we got here? We've got Serenity.
Starting point is 00:45:20 With the firefly movie? No, no. Oh. This is Serenity where it's Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey. Matthew McConaughey is a like deep sea fishing guide. I don't know anything about that movie. That movie is terrible and has the worst twist ever at the end. I thought you were talking about the firefly movie and I was offended.
Starting point is 00:45:49 No. Oh, another 5.4, Tusk. Have you ever seen Tusk? No. So Tusk, I always, I, I think it's a great movie. But it's a movie that fundamentally changed me as a person. Hmm. I've watched it once.
Starting point is 00:46:12 I will never, ever, ever in my life, ever watch it again. It was a good movie, but it was highly, highly unsy. settling. You would hate it. But, like, I tell people it's a good movie and I recommend it, but I always preface it with it. You will not be the same after you watch it.
Starting point is 00:46:33 Yanks. A hard pass for me then. It, uh, it's, it's fucking, it's real unsettling. But it's a good movie. Uh,
Starting point is 00:46:39 what else we got here? Yeah, I don't care about all these grownups to you. Geo Storm. What else we got? This is better than grownups too. Three ninjas. 5.4 what that's underrated for sure that should it be at least a seven we got the wedding planner
Starting point is 00:47:03 dr doolittle which one for the night not the first the first the first eddie murphy one oh oh interesting that was that was a great movie that first uh eddie murphy one can't believe people have a problem with that that movie was awesome raven simone right I think so. What else we got in here? Evan Almighty, 5.4. Oh,
Starting point is 00:47:28 that was a fun one. I enjoyed that. Rocky 5. There's maximum overdrive. What else we got? Annie, 2014, Annie. All right. Well, we don't need to keep...
Starting point is 00:47:51 Made in Manhattan. That's a good movie. That's high. That's under... That deserves better than a 5.4. Yeah. But yeah, so a lot of solid red riding hood. The Amanda C Fred 2011 one.
Starting point is 00:48:06 I did like her a lot of a lot of five point fours. Yeah, so not a bad, not a bad rating in the end when you realize what company they're keeping. Yeah. Yeah, this is this, this movie is yeah, it's just such perfect 80s, uh, nonsense. Just 80s, 80s cocaine nonsense. If you told me Jerry Bruckheimer produced this, I would be like, yeah, obviously. Got to love, bring, make cocaine great again, right, Brandon? Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:48:42 So a couple, so to get back to the actual movie here, back on the kid, so the kid, so he watches all of his friends, on his baseball team get murdered. Then he gets on his bike, he escapes, he's going to the neighborhood. That's when the lawnmower. chases him when the ice cream truck driven by nobody is falling him around that would be terrifying if you think about i don't i feel like i have a i feel like most people don't share the fear and skepticism that i do with ice cream trucks if if if if if i ever met anybody and they were like
Starting point is 00:49:19 i was like what do you do for a living and they were like i'm an ice cream truck driver red flag that dude's a serial killer red flag i love the ice cream truck in my neighborhood in Houston. Get some Chaco tacos. I don't trust them. I don't trust them. Love a good chaco taco. Yeah. I always went for the It was either like SpongeBob or Spider-Man or Gumball eyes.
Starting point is 00:49:46 Mutant Ninja Turtles. And it just always looked like somebody had just crumpled it up. Never, never looked like the photo. Never. Look like if it was like a ninja turtle if Sloth from Goonies was a ninja turtle. Exactly. Yeah. Or if Picasso was doing the, what Picasso thought of Ninja Turtle
Starting point is 00:50:03 looked like. I can't believe that this Game Changers commercial for Disney is just running on auto play on my IMDB while we're talking about this movie. That's crazy. You're probably the only person in the history of the world.
Starting point is 00:50:20 That has mentioned Game Changers since they took it off the air. So that's why they're like, they never they never bothered to deactivate the ad because they're like, nobody's going to say it. you know it's fine i think no one's gonna trigger this ad to pop up and here you go you did it he congratulations but so the kid so the kid he's meandering through the neighborhood getting chased by the fucking ice cream truck the the devil ice cream truck um and then he makes it out then he's
Starting point is 00:50:52 then he's like riding his bike on the highway he almost gets he almost gets tagged by a plane remember that when the plane came down that was crazy then he like crawls through the super whereas the dude the kid was fucking indiana jones in this he was a survivor he was like reba mcintyre and the show reba and their theme song yeah and now what does he have to show for it he's dead dad i like i i didn't care did anyone message you for mother's day brandon i almost did i almost kelly made me stop oh you should have he should i know it's at kelly it was like he that's terrible let's she she she's
Starting point is 00:51:36 talked to me, it's like she convinced me that it was a kind of a mean thing to do to a friend. And I was like, well, I mean, it totally depends on what you were going to say. Just if you if just going to wish you a happy mother's day. Oh yeah, that would have been fine. Yeah. Yeah, like wish you happy mother's day or like, you know, hey, how's your your mother's day? That's fine. Yeah, they're going to fine. You know, it's, it's especially like for people listening if you, if you know somebody who, you know, is missing a parent. That's perfectly cool to text on that on the day for sure to be like,
Starting point is 00:52:11 hey, how's it going? Well, I was going to be a dick about it. I was going to see. The phrase, what you say is 100% the thing that matters. I forget.
Starting point is 00:52:22 It wasn't going to be mean, but it was going to be like, you know, if someone hadn't listened to the pod and heard us make dead mom jokes, they'd be wildly offended. Yeah. that was that i can't remember what i was insane but it was it wasn't over the line but it was bumped up close to it and so i was like maybe i'll just he should have you should have you should have
Starting point is 00:52:46 uh anyways but uh people are listening are like god these guys are fucking sick well i mean we so he his he his dad i do want to talk about that though um about his dad um about his getting run over and then we're Emilio Amelia just wasn't going to say anything he wasn't going to tell him yeah they all got super mad at the owner because he was like yeah you're dead's
Starting point is 00:53:17 dad you dead's dead he somehow I got registered for an IMDB account didn't do that what is what is going on are you are your machines taking over he's
Starting point is 00:53:38 Dude, I did not. I must have clicked the button and signed up for IMDB because I did not. And now it's saying that, wow, now I can create my profile. I didn't want to do that. Wait, wait, wait, what, uh, oh, never mind. I was going to. I was saying because I think I did recently sign up fake eaters. Um, I wasn't IMDB though.
Starting point is 00:54:12 Never mind. going to say is that a personal email to you or was that a cake year's email because the cake years would make sense but then I realized that you don't there's not a chance in hell you look at the cake yours email no no it's just dude
Starting point is 00:54:27 this is crazy I'm never going on IMDB again I'm trying to turn that into fake news deactivate my account yeah I guarantee you hit a button you did something well I'm deleting this account Well, it's too late.
Starting point is 00:54:46 They already have all your information. They already own you. May 17th. That's what day it is today. Yikes, I hit a button somewhere. Good Lord. And now they own you. No, I deleted my account. It's too late. It's too late.
Starting point is 00:55:07 It's on there forever. Yeah. It's the internet. He's, you can't delete it. Can't delete it. He's got to bury it in the algorithm. Yeah, I guess. Um
Starting point is 00:55:23 Anyways, all right, what else we got for this? It's almost time for me to take care of my human baby child. I got a couple. I had a couple of media questions. Um, he robbed a grocery store. Is that why he's on parole? Did I, did I read that? Yeah, something like that.
Starting point is 00:55:45 I think so. He robbed a grocery store. Then the cops came and he froze. And that's why he was like, I'm, I'm a pussy because I didn't do anything. Didn't read, didn't even run. And then that's why she, she has. to constantly reassure him that he's a hero. It reminded me,
Starting point is 00:56:01 you know what it, you know what it, it reminded me of Lords of Dogtown when America Ferreira is making out with the one, the Sid, I think is his name or something like that. And he's like,
Starting point is 00:56:12 tell me I'm a good skater. Tell me I'm a good skater. Tell me I'm so good. So cool. Yeah. Oh, you fuck like a hero. You're so good. So that the grocery store
Starting point is 00:56:28 That confused me for a little I was like did I hear that right? He robbed a grocery store and then got caught That's why he's on parole They drop they They drop like halfway or like three quarters of the way through the movie That both him and Brett know how to sail Remember when they're like trying to figure out the plan of like how to where to go
Starting point is 00:56:50 Or like how to leave or whatever and he's like there's that island In not too far away where they're They don't let any, you can't have anything electronic on the island. There's no cars, nothing. So that's their, that's their plan is to go there. And then as they're, as they're like running to the sailboat, Amelia was like, oh, by the way, I was a fucking, you know, Grand Prix sailor back in the day. I worked on four boats.
Starting point is 00:57:19 So go, okay. Why did that not, why are we just figuring that out now? If I could sail a boat, Heath, that's all I would ever talk about. That would help you with your Tinder profile for sure. Oh, yeah, dude. That changed the game. I've always wanted to get a houseboat. I think houseboat life is my true calling.
Starting point is 00:57:49 You just got to make sure you're keeping it, you know, the outside clean so you don't get any of the stuff that would, like, ruin the body. Oh, yeah, yeah. Dude, I'm down there every Saturday scraping barnacles. Yeah, okay. I just want to make sure you're living responsibly in your houseboat, Brandon. Remember, you know what, you know what first sparked my interest in being a houseboat guy? Remember the replacements? Keanu Reeves?
Starting point is 00:58:13 Do I remember the replacements? Yeah. The replacements may be the most rewatchable movie of all that. So good. It's so good. It's like, is there ever a bad time? time to watch the replacements. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:58:31 You know, like I, like, and it's for, especially when you get the made for TV version where they cut out anything risque, too risque. Like it's a, that's a, that's a crowd pleaser. When you put that on in the background. Keanu crushes it. But that, that's,
Starting point is 00:58:46 that's what I would be doing with it. He, uh, he's not only scraping his own barnacles. Um, the, he scrapes the other boats. They pay him to screw. So that, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's my. like dream life is to get paid to scrape barnacles off of houseboes. To be a barnacle boy? Dude.
Starting point is 00:59:03 Isn't that the SpongeBob Barnacle Boy and it's a another guy? Is it just, it's not Aquaman, is it? It's Aqua. No. Lad, Aquilad and Barnacle Boy. For being a, for being a pop culture podcast, we sure don't know anything about pop culture, Brandon. Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy,
Starting point is 00:59:31 we're not a pop culture podcast, first and foremost. We're a Mighty Ducks podcast. All right. Anyways, we got to do some kikis. I have a human child to raise, to rear. Hey, you better get on that. Time's ticking away. I know.
Starting point is 00:59:49 Hello, darkness, my old friend. What's your kiki, though? Give us your kiki. I give this a solid 2. 9-9. 2-9-9. I loved it. It hit all the weird for me.
Starting point is 01:00:07 I thought it was hilarious. I was laughing all the way home. It was the right lane. Like it wasn't as it could have maybe been five, 10 minutes shorter, but like it wasn't too long. The death scenes were amazing. Like the death scenes were epic.
Starting point is 01:00:26 It's my kind of a horror movie. If I'm being honest. It's like, if I'm, if you're going to force me to watch a horror movie, this is it. Yeah. It's, it's perfect 80s can't be fucking nonsense. Yeah. Especially with cocaine laced up, uh, Stephen King, just do whatever the fuck he wants. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:46 Did you- You caught his camey, all right? He stars in this movie, too. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, he's, he is the first person on screen, I believe. He, uh, he's at the ATM and the ATM just keeps calling him an asshole over and ever again that's great yeah i love how he like calls back to his wife but honey this machine's calling
Starting point is 01:01:04 me an asshole classic so good um 299 is high though that's i'm gonna go i enjoyed it i think it was a lovely movie i'm gonna go two three though because it's just it's so bad that it's good and like you said before like if if that's if that's not your cup of tea you're gonna hate it um If you hate fun, you're going to hate this movie, you know? Dude, Killer Tracks, Emilio, Lisa from The Simpsons, all in. Stephen Coak. Stephen King, Stephen Coakain. Stephen Coakin.
Starting point is 01:01:46 So I mentioned before that this was based on a short story. I think the short story was called Trucks by Stephen King. And then he directed this in 1986. This movie was not well received. and so I think it was 1993 or 1995 so less than 10 years later they another studio did a a remake like a re-adaptation of the short story yeah um called called trucks so this this movie came out and then trucks came out I want to say like six seven years later um based on the same short story that Stephen King wrote and that I think that is a testament to how popular Stephen King
Starting point is 01:02:31 was at this time yeah they just again like I said they let him do whatever the fuck you wanted even so that when he they adapted one of his stories it bombed and they were like you know what let's just do it again let's just get it again real quick yeah it's a work it's a work it's just the height the height of Stephen King is crazy again because like I don't know I I enjoy Stephen King but like I said, like 85% of his stuff, because there's just so much of it, is garbage. Like the top 15% is, like, The Shining's one of my favorite movies of all time.
Starting point is 01:03:02 It's a great book. The It's are solid, both the book, the original, and then the remake. Like his good stuff's really good, but then he's got 85% of just cocaine-riddled garbage. And they made so many Stephen King movies. So many. So many.
Starting point is 01:03:24 And they're still making it. Yeah. But this is definitely, definitely not Stephen King's best work in any sense of the, in any sense. But it is, it is good 80s can't be fun. Yeah. Love it.
Starting point is 01:03:42 Yeah. If you love cocaine, you'll love this movie. That should have been its tagline. Not a bad tagline, actually. I don't know. I think I'm going to start doing that more often. If you love cocaine, I've got something else for you.
Starting point is 01:04:00 Start to start leaving reviews on businesses. Dude, if you love cocaine, this is the hotel for you. If you love cocaine, this is the best food I've had. If you love cocaine, you know, this Mexican restaurant is just for you.
