Starting point is 00:01:09 I'm your biggest fan. I follow you until you love me. Papa, paparazzi. Baby, there's a superstar. You know that I'll be. Oh, wait. I did that wrong. You're a paparazzi
Starting point is 00:01:28 Promise I'll be kind But I won't stop until that boy is mine Wait Do I know this song? What am I doing? I did that terribly Sorry, I'm sorry to the listeners I should probably just cut all this out
Starting point is 00:01:44 Whitsy wait 30 minutes for you to actually get it right here That's I only Do I only know the chorus of this? You only need to see the chorus. You know, you don't need to get too crazy. No, I guess, yeah, but I just don't even know the chorus, I guess. I'm your biggest fan.
Starting point is 00:02:06 I follow you until you love me. Papa, paparazzi. Baby, there's no other superstar who know that I'll be Papa, paparazzi. Promise I'll be kind. but I won't stop until that boy is mine. I almost miss that. Baby you'll be famous.
Starting point is 00:02:31 Chase you down until you love me. Papa, paparazzi. There we go. Nailed it. Took you 15 tries, but we nailed it. We fucking nailed it.
Starting point is 00:02:43 I haven't listened to that. When's the last time you've listened that song? Oh, dude. I'm not a big, Gaga, I guess. I'm not Gaga for Gaga, if you will.
Starting point is 00:02:53 I mean, that song probably came out right away on the time this movie did. This movie was 2008. I want to say that lady Gaga album was at least, at least 2009, if not earlier. No, she crushed it. She crushed it. She was on that one MTV show, right? The Boiling Point Show. She was all the, she was massive in 2008, 2009, or whenever that album came out.
Starting point is 00:03:17 She was all the rage, dude. Well, and like, all the songs on those albums are pretty de-east, too. that that album with paparazzi poker face yeah that album that album had like eight hits yeah and it it thanks to that album glee took off you know like glee owes lady gaga a lot to their success were you welcome were you welcome for a glee drop were you were you a gleeckhead as they called it what were they called i think they were called glee heads right that seems weird um but I wasn't like obsessed with it
Starting point is 00:03:56 but I enjoyed you I mean you know me I love a good musical Brandon and they had some great numbers who's there who's the guy I cannot stand glee what's the guy saying I'm gonna butcher it I keep wanting to say is it Patrick something
Starting point is 00:04:09 who's the who's the Mr. shoe the teacher oh I don't fucking know hmm and then Jane I keep wanting to say didn't the all but who's the tall this tall blonde lady you're saying jane lynch to see you're jane lynch there we go there we go jane lynch who's jane good all who's jane good all honestly if you put some
Starting point is 00:04:38 gorillas in glee i would watch oh that's oh damn all right well you can see where my brain's at dude it was a long night i say i think uh noel's got some teeth stuff going on finally got a little teeth stuff going. You know, we're getting getting all that good stuff. But do, Brandon, so this movie, the reason we did this, Shutter. Shudder, we haven't even said the name of the movie.
Starting point is 00:05:05 Yeah, say the movie because this is shutter. The 2008 Shudder, which is a remake of a movie from Thailand in 2004 by the same name. I've never seen the original. But for all, for everything that I've read, people love the original. it's like Harold it is like one of the best horror movies.
Starting point is 00:05:26 And people fucking hate the remake. I didn't. I mean, it wasn't like a good movie, but I didn't hate it necessarily. You know what I mean? It's not bad. And this is,
Starting point is 00:05:41 this is, it's not a bad movie at all. I thought that like, this is during the time when they were remate, when, American movie studios were remaking everything, all the Japan horror movies and all the Asian horror movies. So this is right in that wave.
Starting point is 00:05:54 And it's definitely, yeah, I wouldn't say it's a good movie, but it's definitely not the most egregious of that style. You know, it could have been way worse. Not at all. And I like Rachel Taylor. She does great in that first Transformers movie. I see her. Transformers. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:10 Yeah. Her and the, the hacker guy when they're hacking, that's a fantastic interaction when he just throws her under the bus when they're getting. It's like, it was all her. It's her fault. She made me do it. In Transformers? Yeah. I was like,
Starting point is 00:06:26 what, I thought you were talking about this movie. I was like, who the fuck was? No. What hacker guy? In this, so this movie,
Starting point is 00:06:33 we're Halloweening. We just some scary movies. This is the beginning of the cake eaters, Halloween spectacular that we do every year. So I will say, Brandon, at first, I was pretty nervous because I do not like scary movies.
Starting point is 00:06:49 I don't like edge of your seat, thriller. I figured you were going to hate, you were going to hate this and be miserable throughout this entire uh this entire movie so i was multitasking as always but i kind of got into it a little bit because at after a while i was like oh there's a sense of comeuppance like like josh john jackson is uh ben shaw's the character's name he's a fucking dick from the get go yeah and and like his like you could like you could like you could like Like I was like literally about 20, 30 minutes in, I was like, well, casting couch creep guy and Roy absolutely did some shady stuff to this girl.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Like after they, I forget what they said something about like the soul attaching. And I was like, oh, well, like body got dumped on that road or something. Like right away, I was like Joshua, like photographers in Japan. Like they're not doing shady shit. You know what I mean? I didn't I'm glad you brought that up. I wasn't gonna I was gonna try to avoid bringing it up. But has there ever been a fashion photographer that wasn't the worst person in the world?
Starting point is 00:08:07 Yeah. Come on. Like half like that's what I'm saying like 30 minutes into the movie. I was like, well, this isn't scary anymore. I can't wait for these guys to get what they deserve. Like you know they pulled some shit. And then at the end I was like, I up, oh, no like I freaking knew it dude. i freaking knew it he his bench on is legit a from the get go just the most selfish person in the world
Starting point is 00:08:31 he makes her he i'm assuming it was all his the the timing of the wedding was driving me crazy why are we getting they got married who and then moved to japan well they got for their honeymoon they got married the day before they were flying out to japan not for their honeymoon they were flying out for a job they just tacked he just tacked on a couple you know activities to make it yeah to be a honeymoon adjacent but like can we can we not can we plan the wedding after the job you know uh no who gets married and then immediately goes back to their own house in their wedding attire i mean the guy that was the lamest thing i've ever seen my life go to a hotel look who we're talking about he literally was like listen she was crazy she was a crazy she's a crazy
Starting point is 00:09:19 crazy stalker. She kind of deserve this. Also, we have to talk about just his, the sheer audacity of him to not only take to take your brandy wife back to the place where you fucking committed a felony. Yeah. And not expected to come up at all? You don't think that's going to come up? And then just the his to stay. He's like, she killed my friends.
Starting point is 00:09:46 It's like, well, oh, dude. Duh. His freaking die, you loser. His deflecting and like gaslighting manipulation was unbelievable. When she finally sees the photos, finds the photos of what happens and his whole thing is I didn't touch her. I only took the photos. That's not any better, buddy.
Starting point is 00:10:07 It's actually so much worse that you just sat in the other room and let it happen. He sat at the kitchen table and watched it like a fucking psychopath. Yeah, that's, I let's, I'm saying, like it was almost worse. like what he did, especially the way they shot that shot of like zooming in on Joshua Jackson. And so anyways, that's why I was like, you know, at first I was like, God damn it, Brandon, I just, I fucking hate you. Thank God. It's light out so late and it's not. We're not doing this. You know, we're we're not doing this during fall time because my God, Brandon, this would have been freaked me out in the first 20 minutes. But then, like I said, it was like, all right, these guys suck. Haunt the shit out of them.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Get him. As the character from Gravity Falls, the old guy is sitting there. He's like, get him. Get him. You know what I'm talking about? Yeah. That's what I was halfway through this movie. It's like, haunt these fucking losers, dude.
Starting point is 00:11:07 I've seen this before. I watched it back when it came out in like 2008. Oh, really? Yeah. It wasn't necessarily good, like I said. but I was like I was into it like I wasn't it wasn't it wasn't like our some of our previous watches where I had to take a break halfway through and was like who the jeez okay huh and this is perfectly time too it's like hour 25 yeah I think it is an hour 25 maybe even hour 20 I forget it it's like it's just it's just barely long enough to constitute a movie um but even then it it it it did feel kind of like it was moving a little slow for me. Really.
Starting point is 00:11:48 Because there's just so, there's a lot of, a lot of loles. But to break down the, the plot for everybody, this is Shudder 2008 with Joshua Jackson. He is newly married to, what was her name, Rachel, I forget her name. Rachel Taylor. Rachel Taylor, who plays Jane newlyweds, just got married. Joshua Jackson's character, Ben, is a photographer. So right after the, right after their wedding, inexplicably.
Starting point is 00:12:16 timing on everybody's behalf right after their wedding he they fly to Japan for a photography job he brings her also he brought he brings her he mentions when they're leaving that her first passport stamp will be Japan this is her first time traveling internationally yeah I thought the same thing I was like he track leaving the country she's moving well they don't move they move they're only there for the job they don't move oh I thought they were there for like really long I thought that it was like a year job. No, I think it was like a month.
Starting point is 00:12:47 They were there for like a month. Oh, that's not so bad. That's not so bad. Maybe not even that. Probably just a couple weeks, actually, now that I think about it. But that's her first international trip. He drags her along and then leaves her to her up, leaves her to her own devices every single day. She's, they have the montas where she's wandering around and just getting yelled at by Japanese people because she doesn't understand what she's doing and how she's being rude.
Starting point is 00:13:12 because she doesn't speak any of the language. And like he spoke, understood Japanese. Like, he could have at least, like, shown her the ropes. Like, show her the ropes. Like, take her around so that she can then, you know what I mean? Like, you can then repeat these steps to go to these places so that you know and, like, teach her key terminology. Like, are you not dating?
Starting point is 00:13:35 Do you not speak to each other? Like, teach her key terminology. Like, all right, dude, we're about to be there for X amount of time. And you're going to be on your own for a certain amount of time. Like here's how you say how much. Here's how you exchange currency. Here's how you ask for the bathroom. You know, like, you know, just let her go cruise around to get some of that good
Starting point is 00:13:56 notch. You know, they've got the sick ass vending machine food places. Like, come on, said. Yeah. I must see because she was able to, she figured out the subway. She was able to buy stuff. Like they show her with grocery bags a few times. I know, but it could have been.
Starting point is 00:14:12 easier Brandon he could have made it way and like way easier what one day maybe take one day off and go out with her like he spends his entire time in the in the photo studio and she's just off on her own there's a terrible travel partner yeah he deserved that splash in the eyes i can tell you that right now that that cracked me up so bad one so flashed his eyes but anyways so back to the plot so there you go to japan for hey because he has a photography job yep with his old company that he used to work for and so he runs into his two American buddies that he originally worked there with and they're they hang out with him his creep bro bros his creep bros
Starting point is 00:14:53 but so when they get to Japan they take a day or two before they go to Tokyo to go see Mount Fuji and they get a little cabin over there on the drive to the cabin the girl is driving Joshua Jackson's half asleep and
Starting point is 00:15:09 there's a spooky lady that walks in the middle of the the forest road you're always do don't stop you just kind of run the that as go so like if you turn back in there's like she well she fucking ran air over the problem she made but she then ran into a tree yeah that's that's true like if you can if you could turn back and there's no nothing there because you just ran over your ghost you just got to keep going right well there wasn't nothing there because they should the show she's before she passes out she looks at the lady's still there she still sees the lady oh she did that's right that's right but i just assume that was like
Starting point is 00:15:45 spirit ghost thing oh well it was yeah in hindsight hindsight it's 2020 it was a ghost did you did you ever just did uh wayne nebraska or just nebraska in general did you guys have a a lady on the road urban legend we had one in colorado no we do hold on i got to grab jenkins water but we do have an urban legend like that that i will discuss in 20 seconds when I grab Jenkins Wonder, Riff, until I get back. In Colorado, we had one on Riverdale Road in, like, Westminster, Thornton, Brighton area in Colorado. They have a, that has a lot of urban legends. That road is, like, notoriously haunted.
Starting point is 00:16:26 But that's one of the legends is you, you know, round a corner and there's a lady dressed in white walking across the road. Oh, interesting. There was a house somewhere that we would go to and spooky stuff would sometimes happen, but I can't. remember the name of it but the one that i always remember is godfathers remember got you you ate at godfathers so godfathers the legend because a dude was hung at godfathers because it used to be like the old old railroad house station place like railroad tracks used to railroad tracks used to run that behind that makes more sense i was like who's hanging somebody at the pizza shop no no is the The railroad tracks used to run behind the godfathers.
Starting point is 00:17:10 It actually used to act like it was a old brick around it. It was crazy like, you know, back in the day. But they say that they took a picture of like the old, you know, Godfather's building and the guy that was in the picture showed up later and he haunted the godfather's building in the basement, you know, like you never, never wanted to go into the basement of that place because spooky stuff happened. you know i didn't you didn't i haven't thought about that for a while i you know i know i know phil i got to ask him about that i got to ask him if he can confirm or deny the haunting of the godfathers yeah you guys
Starting point is 00:17:47 didn't have like a you didn't have a lady in the road urban legend though no no there was it there was like that's a fairly common house yeah there's a couple like a lady or a kid in the road i feel like it's a fairly common urban legend no yeah but uh but so that's what so she she she she she she What she thinks she hits this lady that's walking across the road. And then she starts freaking out. Joshua Jackson, not once, not a single time does he ask her if she's okay. Not a single fucking time. In fact, in fact, not even the next day.
Starting point is 00:18:22 He yelled at her. This tells her to stop being so fucking dramatic. Yeah. He quits being such a little bitch about it. He literally tells her to stop being dramatic about the lady she just hit. Because she didn't exist, Brandon. He did do a good job of being like jerk gaslighter boyfriend guy. Like he's exactly, he's exactly what you'd expect of a photographer, like a professional photographer.
Starting point is 00:18:50 Even, even once he starts to realize, oh, this is the girl that I, that I assaulted. He tries to still gaslight the misses. He doesn't tell her he still tries to blame it on her. like oh yeah it's just like I said they they just deserved all of this you know yeah it was but but so I mean she goes to the spirit magazine with the guys from heroes that makes me want to watch heroes again oh go heroes was terrible but anyway she so she thinks she hit she's one is good she she thinks she hits this lady and kills her um but really was it but really it was a it was the ghost of the lady that Joshua Jackson
Starting point is 00:19:34 his character. I'm going to, I need to be very, very clear on not referring to him as Joshua Jackson because I don't want, I don't want, you know, it's Ben Shaw who assaulted him. Yes.
Starting point is 00:19:47 It's the character. It's the character that assaulted it. I need to be very, very, choose my words, very carefully. And we're doing this because Joshua Jackson is all ducks, all day, Charlie, but we love Joshua Jackson, the person and the actor,
Starting point is 00:20:01 the character of Ben Shaw, garbage. Oh, do you actually, I have to protest a couple things with you, quick, Brandon, before we move on from Kelly. Kelly has two protests for the podcast that she wants to run by you. Is protests the right word? Probably not. There's probably a different way.
Starting point is 00:20:19 Are they just suggestions? No, she has two addendums to our podcast itinerary. She wants us to become a full-time Dawson's Creek podcast instead. She's like there's potential to just switch over. I was doing the, I was doing the, I was laying out the calendar for what's, what's, what's next. We are one, two, three, four, we're five episodes away from DC again. So. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:51 So that's it. She definitely wants us to become a Dawson's Creek podcast. She just says, we got, forget the ducks. Season four is coming up. She's a, forget the ducks, put the ducks in the rear view mirror. and get on the creek. Creek heads all day. There's only so much Dawson's Creek we can do, though.
Starting point is 00:21:09 Creek heads all day. And then her second thing is... It's not like those are more popular episodes. We have three fans that are way more passionate about the Dawson's Creek episodes, but it's not like we get more listeners to the Dawson's Creek episodes. Those threes of listeners can turn into tens, Brandon. You have no idea. And then the second one is we should do the 8.
Starting point is 00:21:33 HBO show. What's it? Sweaty Ice? Not, um, or heated rivalry? He did rivalry. I tried. I scoured the internet for any kind of duck connection. There's not one. There's not, not even not even something I can, I can make up. And, and so her protests there is that it's more hockey than all the other movies we do. And I told her, I was like, it's not duck lore. So it doesn't work there. She just doesn't understand the duck Laura, I don't think Brandon. There are some movies that I have on the to-do list that are hockey movies. That the slightest connection they have with the ducks is that they use the same like hockey coordinator.
Starting point is 00:22:13 Nice. And I tried looking for heated rivalries. It's not the same guy. There's like, I scoured. There's legitimately no connection to the ducks for heated rivalry. Because I would have loved to do it to have done it or to do it. But there's there's legit no connection. I looked.
Starting point is 00:22:26 I looked. All right. I'll just London. I told us this. probably happened. She just wanted me to surface these, these. Tell her, tell her DC season four is coming up soon, though. Coming up soon.
Starting point is 00:22:39 Like I were, the, the ways of listeners are going to be jazzed, yes, with a soft gym. I'll see, the way we, I've laid it out the last two years is, or last, so we did season two, like halfway through 2025. We did season three right at the start of 2026.
Starting point is 00:22:57 And so I was planning on season four, right at the start of 2027. So like first episode of the new year will be DC season four part one. All right. I'll allow it. All right. We can go back to Shutter. I just wanted to raise those concerns with you,
Starting point is 00:23:11 Brandon. I thought the listeners might enjoy that as well. Our DC fans are going to be like, oh, Brandon, you stickler, bring us to the creek, Creek heads all day.
Starting point is 00:23:21 Let's do some creek. I was planning on doing season four at the start of 2027 and then season five at the start of 2028. but we might we'll see how those episodes the season four episodes go if there hits if more people are listening then we can do season five um like halfway through 2027 instead of wait until 28 you know it's considering there's still uh unless you do do you want to rip seasons four five six right one after the other that's a lot of dot that's a lot of dc it's a lot of ds i don't know we'll see we'll see we'll see how i feel one more
Starting point is 00:23:59 Speaking of Dawson's Creek, Pacey must be rolling over in his grave thinking about this, this character that Joshua Jackson's playing. Complete opposite. Oh, my God. This, this guy sucked that that Pacey played. And yeah, like I said, it's if a scary movie is people getting their haunted with their comeuppance. I love a good comeuppance, dude. Yeah, like I'm, I was cheering for the ghost halfway through. And once then, and then once he got out into the girlfriend, I was like,
Starting point is 00:24:29 hell yeah yeah fuck that guy my one question for the ghost lady for magumi is um they don't really touch on it when she died based on her body decomposition pretty far pretty far dead yeah right pretty decomposed yeah i was trying to i even looked it up and they i couldn't find anything definitive but i was trying to figure out when she died because my my might have been a month or so whoops sorry well i'm thinking because they see they see so she shows up in the pictures at the wedding so she was already dead when the wedding happened i'm thinking it wasn't too far too far removed from the wedding because my i thought it happened that night that they did that was that was two years ago though the deed was two years ago though the deed was two years ago
Starting point is 00:25:27 Oh, and then she died just more recently. I think she, so granted, I couldn't find anything definitive. I was thinking she realized he was getting married and then committed. He was trying to warn her. And committed suicide. Well, that was my question. It's like, why couldn't we, you waited until the wedding to warn her? Depending on when she committed suicide when she died, you couldn't have done this before they got married?
Starting point is 00:25:52 We couldn't have, we couldn't have warned her before them before the wedding. That's my one question. But I don't know when she committed, I don't know definitively when she committed suicide or when she died. I'm assuming, based on her showing up in the wedding photos and not before that, I'm assuming that's right about when she died. So probably a couple weeks of decomposition,
Starting point is 00:26:13 which with that, I don't even know if that would, if her body would decompose that much in a couple. I don't, yeah, I don't know. I don't know the timeline. But that was my one question. Just like, wait, we couldn't have done this earlier. you know a little bit earlier
Starting point is 00:26:29 because now now she's got a she's got to go through well she could probably get an annulment because it's not too far removed from the wedding she'd probably get an annulment definitely yeah definitely because he's he's in a psychiatric facility now so you can I assume that would you can annul the shit out of that yeah know that's just more paperwork
Starting point is 00:26:48 for her to do if we could have caught it before the wedding would have been you know best case scenario Dude, freaking, what did you think? Not to jump ahead, but what did you think about Roy just jumping off the balcony? Full sending it? Dude. I was like just like, like, I thought he was going to attack Joshua Jackson. No, just his shoulder dip out of the way off the ledge.
Starting point is 00:27:16 So I got real. I thought he was going to attack them, right? I was real confused. I didn't think he was going to attack them. But I thought because they showed the phone. When Joshua Jackson calls him to tell him that the dude died, the other dude died, Alex, I think was the character's name. When Alex dies, they show him, Roy answering the phone, and then he's like cutting up the photos with the razor blades and his hands are all bloodied. I figured he was going to slit his wrists with the razor blade.
Starting point is 00:27:46 That's what I figured. So when he, when he like, when he like shows up in the, I think he was hiding in the closet in his apartment when he's like pants. that i was like oh shit he's still there he's still alive um i was expecting them to find him like in the bathtub or something you know but yeah well that's what i'm saying like when they showed him alive i was like oh damn he's gonna like attack him with like the stuff he's using to cut the cut the pictures you know i don't know just full full send it off the balcony dude because i thought he was gonna like i thought they were going to walk in on him you know just laying with the pictures cut out as like a message right and then that's what it's like when
Starting point is 00:28:24 When they, when they, when he was just standing there, I was like, oh, shit, he's going to attack Joshua Jackson. And then, like, he like, spread eagle when he jumped out too, like did like a flying squirrel motion. So that was, I feel like that made it better. You know, he just didn't do like a like a, like, who was the guy from Game of Thrones that just did a walk and just like. Oh, the common. Yeah. Yeah. He just, he just head dive.
Starting point is 00:28:51 Like he did a, he did like a flying squirrel jump. like he full send it man he was yeah but uh one then sent mouse to to piggyback off the the scene where it pans and he's in the in the closet i thought they did a really good job like cinematography wise there's a lot of good super creepy like pans and you know like she the umgumi's ghost shows up in a lot of cool ways where they like pan you know across and she's she's where she wasn't before that kind of stuff i thought that was really yeah yeah did a real good job with that but yeah roy roy fulsin it was crazy the the the alex the alex guy getting his his eyeball blown out by the camera that was that was crazy too that i was not expected that when he said let's take it to the stairs i figured
Starting point is 00:29:43 she was gonna like push him down the stairs you know but um yeah and again talk about super fucking creepy little it's always the fashion it's if you ever come i i I feel bad because this is a bit of a generalization. But if you ever come across a male fashion photographer, that dude's a guaranteed creep. Yeah. Run as fast as you can. It never ends well.
Starting point is 00:30:11 No. Like the internet, everyone should be wise of this by now due to the internet, right? Like no one should be like, hey, this is a very trustworthy photographer. It's like that's how you get traffic You can It has to be fashion though It's specifically fashion Photographer male fashion photographers
Starting point is 00:30:32 Yes Like if you're out there shoot nature Oh I shoot models I'm a model shooter It's like no you're going to get traffic by that guy Yeah Or at the very least sexually assaulted by him Yes
Starting point is 00:30:45 1,000% Unbelievable Unbelievable Unbelievable but yeah i can't i can't believe joshua jackson just sat there and let it happen that was wild well and then this when he's like they took it too far and it was like you let them well then at the end um when she when there's that whole blow up where he's you know he tells her i only took the photos i didn't touch her and she's like um she's like you were gonna let me live you were gonna let me
Starting point is 00:31:16 live thinking that i fucking ran her over um and killed her um Like, and the worst part is that you, you assaulted it two years ago, you've been living with that guilt free. You didn't even, not a, not a ounce of guilt, which is crazy, not an ounce of guilt. You're not even in therapy. Yeah. And the, the audacity to have to keep the memory card with the photos. Starting point is 00:32:16 In the camera, in a suitcase. Yeah. The audacity? The audacity to think that nothing. was ever going to come of that. You know, legally or even just karma-wise, the audacity to think, it's, I just, I don't, I feel guilty about everything at all times. It baffles me how people can not feel guilty about stuff.
Starting point is 00:32:44 I don't, I just don't get it. I know 100%. It's the same as like second families and cheaters. It's the same concept, you know, it's like the guilt. Just how does the guilt not crush you? I accidentally bumped into a person yesterday.
Starting point is 00:33:02 I was trying to like, it was like a tight area. I was trying to scoop by and I accidentally like bumped into them. I've been thinking about that since then, about how awful I feel about that. You shouldn't feel awful about it, Brandon.
Starting point is 00:33:15 I do. I apologize and I still feel bad. I was like, I'm so sorry. But I'm going to think about that for at least a week. Damn. I just, yeah, the, the, that might just be the, you know, the Irish Catholic in me, the, the constant guilt. But, you know, yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:33:35 Maybe it's just because you're also a loser, Brandon. That could be it too, right? I think those are two separate matters, but. Damn, oh, my God. Let's focus on one problem at a time here. Did you see, this movie got 11% on rotten tomatoes? I told you, people, people hated this movie. They did not like it.
Starting point is 00:33:54 wow wow i mean it wasn't good but 11% on what's uh tomatoes yowsas am i right i mdb's 5.2 out of 10 so that's not terrible that's about where i would that's not terrible but yeah anyways i was just shocked by this rotten tomato yeah well no like i said the the original that this is a remake of um is regarded as like an amazing horror movie people love it and so i think with the oh and so a lot of people were like like people are Americans ruin everything yeah to go from that to this was like jarring to people and they were they they did not care for it yeah even though joshua jackson is a star of stars as an actor yeah yeah he crushes i mean him rachel taylor is fantastic the i thought the acting in this movie was um pretty above par
Starting point is 00:34:49 from what you get what you don't really get in horridel taylor and i feel like i'm a fan of hers she's but she does mostly TV now. I don't think she's doing too many movies, but she was, I know she was in Gray's Anatomy for, yeah, she was in Grey's Anatomy for a hot second. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:04 She's, she moved towards TV. Um, but a, one of the TV around. Yeah. Um, yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:16 I have in my notes. Ben does not give a fuck about Jane. He does not care. Like, zero percent. Yeah. Like when he's around to zero cares about her as a person or not not not not once during this entire movie does he be like are you okay are you okay are you okay are you okay he just he just he yells at her tells her to stop being dramatic there's that one scene that threw me off fuck your bitch in the click you claim west side sorry there's the stuck in my head little teupac brand in what you know about that west side there's the one scene where um like halfway through the movie where they're uh it's right after his he finds out his uh his photo
Starting point is 00:36:04 shoot um all the photos got like tampered with by the spirit by the spirit uh spirit photography and he's like freaking out and mad and they get into a fight and he is like he like he like yells at her and he's like i'm i know you're super upset because i haven't been able to hang out with you i haven't been able to you know i've been or whatever and he yells at her and tells you um god damn it jane i'm not your father which was threw me off for a second i was like what is that about but then you've then in his stories it made more sense once he started telling um his stories about magumi and her dad and i think that's where that came from is he was projecting because i was like we we've never we've met jane's dad he's never come up in conversation but like it was a weird thing to throw out there
Starting point is 00:36:50 but then once he tells the backstory you're like okay you're projecting here but um but yeah he's just a fucking asshole um through and through and then i i do i do love when uh when they go to the psychic guy the the guy that was in the magazine um you brought you want you watched it on youtube right for everybody watching listening yeah it's on youtube it's on youtube for free with ads but um and there's not that many it's not like it's not like four it's like four ad breaks yeah it wasn't pluto style ads and you can skip a few of them and just have to like close out of the if you're on your phone close out of the little like whatever those little mini games are but so you are because i had the the i did it i watched it the same way so you didn't when they went to see the psychic
Starting point is 00:37:39 did first of all do you have subtitles on yeah yeah um when he's talking to just as man speaking in japanese so you don't get the full in the like DVD release or whatever the theatrical release if you turn on the subtitles it'll tell you like exactly what he's saying um and so I have the he's they go to the psychic and they're meeting with him they're talking with him everything seems to be going fine and then he touches the psychic guy touches the photos and then has like a realization and he turns to um ben Shaw and starts shouting at him and and then Ben is like oh this dude's let's get the fuck out of here he's he's talking crazy loser so what the what the psychic was saying to him in Japanese was um to Ben
Starting point is 00:38:27 he says what you've done cannot be undone you'll always be with her i cannot and i will not help you um that's what he says to ben is like oh this dude's a hack he doesn't know what he's talking about let's leave let's leave um because that's the that's the that's the other thing like we mentioned it's her she doesn't speak japanese she's getting she's only uh she's only getting what he's telling back to her in in all of these conversations easy to manipulate that way very easily yes uh but that's what the that's what the second guy tells him and why he he freaks out on him um because i he touches the photo and he gets the the full picture of what this fucking ben shah dude did yeah yeah and it was rough like when they revealed it i was like this is almost the scariest part is watching that was i yeah that was rough when they were
Starting point is 00:39:20 shamed right like don't you think that was the scariest part of the whole movie was like when they started revealing all that and i was like oh this is the the most terrifying thing of the whole moment you know the the way that ben shot described is is like telling it back and he's like he's like i did they said they were going to talk to her i didn't know what they were going to do he mentioned having pills that were like sleeping pills but stronger and i was like how was that not yeah so you're roofies yeah but why he's psycho and you agree to that you fucking moron that's so that's the thing that we need to discuss that's that's the thing that we need to discuss The fact that like for some guy, this is like Kelly's like he you can't describe this movie to me.
Starting point is 00:40:04 It's going to freak me out. But I was like the whole core of this movie is like, why in the actual F if you feel like a girl is stalking you, you're like, hey, broves, listen, the best. The best. I don't think she was stocking him. But like the best like it's a very he's an unreliable narrator with that story. I don't think. Yeah. Because later on, they show this, uh, the same flashback, but a different.
Starting point is 00:40:28 different scene and her face her facial expressions and his facial expressions are completely different than they are in the flashback when he's telling me i didn't notice that but it was just the justification of it all was why like was why was why the whole time and that's like it's like this she's like oh was it scary i was like no it wasn't scary the whole time i was cheering for the ghost to just like brutally yeah like like i said get him like especially when she got the creepy casting couch guy doing creepy casting couch stuff it's like yikes that guy is exactly who you think he is 10 times out of 10 again and you know like it was just this is all comeuppance and we it's just it was well deserved all the way around you know and like him sitting in the loony bend with that weight on him of the girl well deserved again i was like good good Like, dude, that's finally, at least it's eating away at you in some manner of speaking, right? Instead of just being like, well, you know, just watch the bros, you know, just like, what's wrong with you, man? There's two more quotes he has.
Starting point is 00:41:43 Because she said that, right? Like, she was like, the fact that you just like, like, well, it happened. No big deal. That you could just, you could live with this. You were just like, yeah, zero, again, zero guilt. Unbelievable. gaslighting her over everything there's two more quotes that that I wrote down that he said that that were like uh drawing to me one was um it's when he's first telling the story about her um about
Starting point is 00:42:11 macumee you know quote unquote stocking him and he he's like her dad didn't approve and so he got real man so like she was only hanging out at my place or whatever and then she and then he says and then her dad dies and she gets real needy. Her dad dies and she gets real needy. Oh my God. Right? That should have been red flags all over the place for his wife already, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:40 Like, yikes. Well, I don't know. Like her dad and her were fighting and then he died. Like that is probably hard on her. Of course. Like she just wanted someone to like make. make her feel like it wasn't the worst thing that anyone could have ever done you know like it's not god god god forbid she turns to you in her moment of need and he's like so i had to ditch her
Starting point is 00:43:06 like dude and then she got real stalkery yeah real once her dad died she got real fucking needy what a bitch dude this is yeah this is this is like when when someone's like a dude's telling you a story and though yeah but she was crazy and it's like well you know i heard the i heard the story and i'm not sure if she was the crazy one but that happens on on both sides i'm sure where it's like okay well and he he does do that he does that multiple times where she's like she was crazy she was crazy yeah it doesn't like he that was his like main justification he's like no she was you wouldn't understand like we dated yeah but then she got crazy it was oh yeah it was but then the
Starting point is 00:43:51 the other quote that caught my attention was it's after uh after roy takes his swan dive and they're like sitting in the car while the like the cops are cleaning up or whatever and he's they're like talking and he's like exactly what he says but he's like he's like he's like Alex is dead Bruno's dead she killed my friends and he's like getting mad she's like she killed my friends and I thought to myself yeah why did she kill them Ben Yeah. You want to tell us why? You want to tell us why?
Starting point is 00:44:25 Like, you, you were there. I think even, I think even in that scene, I think Rachel Taylor does say, why? Why did she kill them? And he, like, brush his bastard. But it's like, no, Ben, let's, let's unpack that. Why is she killing them? Let's, let's unpack that a little bit. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:40 Well, there's a reason he scoots on by that. It's like, oh, did they deserve it? Maybe. Maybe. Yes. Yeah, there's. There was a lot. This is definitely like a, you know, a B-rated horror movie for sure.
Starting point is 00:44:57 But there's a lot of like good quotes and stuff. Like all those like quotes that I mentioned were like real alarming and, you know, good hooks. And then there's a few quotes when she's in the at the magazine looking at the spirit photographers. The spirit photographs. There's a couple good quotes in there where the deed's talking about. about, you know, they're, these, these things are showing up to send a message. The message depends on, you know, who it is and what it is and all that kind of stuff. There's another quote at the very end that I wrote down where she and Ben are, she, once
Starting point is 00:45:37 she saw all the photos and she's like yelling at him and getting ready to leave and all that. And he, he tells her, I'm, I'm a different man than I was back then. Two years, two years ago, I'm a different man than I was back then. And she snaps back and she goes, how does forgetting make you a better person? Yes. Like how does you forgetting what you did make you a better person? You get you again, you didn't go to therapy. You haven't you haven't taken any steps to become a better person.
Starting point is 00:46:04 You're just forgetting what you did. Yeah, no accountability at all. Classic Ben Shaw. Dude, like, think Ben Shaw. Yeah. Yeah. And like, you know, I don't know if it was, I would even necessarily consider this very scary like it wasn't very scary there's it's not like a scary movie it's it's more like um
Starting point is 00:46:29 like energy or see yeah in uneasiness again a lot and a lot of it is cinematography based because of the pans that are very well done like i mentioned um it's that that's good yeah it's not really because even like even like the death scenes like i mean him watching him jump from the balcony was was jarring. But it made me laugh. Maybe it was just because I, at that point, I was like, oh, she's getting him. She's like, how was she going to get him? And then it was like, oh, see, flying squirrel style.
Starting point is 00:47:07 Flying squirrel style. I was like, oh, shit, there goes Roy. Yeah. Like that's what happened in my brain. I was like, oh, shit, there goes Roy. Damn. I read that there's a director's cut that they released afterwards that has a bunch of like additional scenes. And a lot of it is just more gory stuff when it's like the death scenes and stuff.
Starting point is 00:47:36 Like yeah, I think they show him hit like hit the ground. And then there's like more graphic stuff going on with the camera and then. hit that PG-13 mark by cutting all that out exactly yeah yeah and then same with the when Benshaw electrocutes himself there was like more gory stuff in that that was that was unsettling to watch too it wasn't really scary it was just it was it made you uneasy well that's it I was like oh he's just and then he did it and I was like that feels like quite the exaggerer exaggerate you know like overreaction and it didn't really help at all well he it good good to this it's not very clearly spelled out but i what i gather from that is he
Starting point is 00:48:24 was trying he was trying to shock the ghost or yeah because that's right where she was she was hanging on sitting he thought it might shock the ghost off of so i could see where he's coming from i mean terrible idea i wouldn't have gone through with it but i see where he i see where he got the idea you know yeah i suppose i suppose maybe it's it's i feel like there's a movie somewhere where that maybe happened so go spas but He's no Ghostbuster, you know what I mean? I should have called Bill Murray. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:53 Who are you going to call, Brandon? That is, that's, how does it? That's a terrible rest of his existence, though, with that, with her just hanging on and then just sit and spend all day in a,
Starting point is 00:49:09 in a psychiatric facility. That's got a little or aster. Just hunched over with the ghosts. With the, with the weight, yeah, the weight of your decisions. How would be? Go sitting on your shoulders. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:22 It's for up stuff, Brandon. I don't know. I don't know. I'm really surprised you enjoyed this. You enjoyed this. I figured you would, I was expecting complaining 24-7. Yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:49:36 Like, the whole time I was watching, I was like, well, this could have been worse. Could have been. And I think I was like, I have to ramp it up for next Halloween. I got to get real scary. Please don't. But I think that like it's like I said like halfway through.
Starting point is 00:49:53 I was like how's she gonna get him? Like how's you get like dude like dude. Well I'm gonna happen with John like and so I was kind of like you know like okay. What did him and his idiot friends do to this girl to make her haunt them? So I was kind of just like curious the whole time and I didn't know it was based on an old movie. And so for me it was just like, all right. So what'd they do to this poor girl? Yeah. Um, I. I did think, granted, I said, I've seen this movie before way back when it first came out.
Starting point is 00:50:25 I haven't seen it since. But I was, like, when the night before her funeral, also, the audacity for you to show up at her funeral. I mean, you guys did find the body. Also, when they found her body, they broke into her house. I feel like that that was, they broke into her house. breeze right past that like yeah that was wild
Starting point is 00:50:55 and then yeah they found a body but for him to show up to the funeral I thought was was a bit classless you know I get
Starting point is 00:51:04 I get why he did it because he's like I need to see I want to make sure the body you know is actually cremated I get why he would
Starting point is 00:51:13 he would do it for his own again for his own personal reasons the dude is the most selfish person in the world he's just all about himself but yes the the audacity to to show up at that funeral i thought was was wild
Starting point is 00:51:27 i mean he also that was the if it was her idea he would have had to at that point in time to continue to save face if it was um jane's ideas what you're saying yeah yeah that makes sense you know because like how like what would he object to be like no like i mean he could just like no it creeps me out but like i don't know i just feel like if it was her idea he might have panicked and just been like okay yeah yeah let's go to the casino you know like yeah sometimes staying closer to the problem makes you less of a suspect yeah i i get where you're some of them yeah um i just i don't know just i just as somebody who's guilty 24-7 about everything i just couldn't imagine. I can't even imagine.
Starting point is 00:52:21 Two years. Two years. And then going back to the scene of the crime with your misses. The freshly new misses. I know I've said it like five times, but the, the audacity. Ben. Ben Scha. It's just, yeah. A bad guy.
Starting point is 00:52:44 And I still, I know I brought it up, but I feel like we kind of glossed it over. The whole wedding timing. You know, that's really stuck in my. craw to um i just don't like we it's a hard turn around you're gonna do it the day before you leave for a job like just wait till you get back you don't know what there you don't know their schedules like brandon i don't i don't even know do they mention what she does i don't i forget if they mentioned what she did for a living um i don't think they do but i thought she maybe she just graduated grad school i made that up in my brain i think
Starting point is 00:53:23 uh sometimes i put my own background into characters that don't get a full one oh yeah i do that too and then i have to remind myself wait that's not that's not part of the movie that's not k-fabe that's not canon that's okay it's definitely not definitely not but uh yeah i'm i am really surprised you enjoyed this i was expecting you know kicking and screaming from you what um what What's your cakey rating since you enjoyed this so much? I didn't. Since this is your new favorite movie. I didn't enjoy it like you're trying to make it seem like, you know, I enjoyed it, but like
Starting point is 00:54:10 you texted me and said this is the greatest movie I ever seen in my life. That's made up lie, Brandon. You're you're a liar and a cheat. You're you're crazy. I think that's what you're you're crazy. You got. Don't gaslight me, Brandon. Ever since you watched this movie, you got real needy. needy he's yeah real needy i give it uh 1.5 oh that's it oh i thought you're okay i thought you i said i didn't say i liked it i just said that it wasn't as scary and as terrible as i thought
Starting point is 00:54:44 it was going to be i didn't necessarily enjoy watching it but it didn't make it wasn't so bad that it made me stop and have to like restart it again but it also was not good and it was not necessarily worth that like the the biggest saving grace for it honestly was that it was an hour in 25 minutes and that's where the positive mindset comes from more than anything brandon is that it was like well at least it's over it did i mean i said earlier it does move a little slow for my liking but it does it doesn't overstay it's welcome it's in and out we're done yep boom yeah i was kind of like which is which is really nice especially considering other movies that we've done recently like witness the movie felt like 18 goddamn years yeah yeah or what was the one with
Starting point is 00:55:32 marguerite moreau with the end of the world that one was the the protector that was a that was a rough one to you that was terrible that might be the one of the worst movies that you've ever made me watch for this podcast if i'm thinking outside of buddy games one and two i just those movies really it's protect well yeah yeah buddy buddies buddy's buddy games was awful Protector was, yeah, protector was pretty bad to you, but, you know. Anyways, but yeah. So I said, yeah. You said one five, right?
Starting point is 00:56:07 Yeah. Okay. That's, that's fair. I'm going to go into the twos, just into the twos. I'm going to go to one for my rating. Because, I mean, I enjoy horror movies way more than you do. You're definitely afraid of them. But, I hate it.
Starting point is 00:56:23 Listen, this is what I say. every time people ask, Heath, why don't think scary movies? I say life is scary enough. I don't need to add on to it. Maybe that's how you cope is you, is you add on to it. That way it makes the rest of your life not seem so scary. Like the people that watch true kind documentaries and then they're like, I, you know, I just, I've got a lot of anxiety.
Starting point is 00:56:51 And it's like, what do you do in your free time? It's like, well, I watch stories about women that live alone getting murdered as as i am a woman living alone it's like you know that made me a little nervous dude i had to i used to be really true crime and i really i had to wane it off because i was getting i was getting too anxious i was getting too paranoid i remember yeah um there was you ever watch the following it was a tv show with kevin bacon um and it was about um he's like a fbi detective he catches a serial killer in the first episode he catches a serial and puts him in jail and then like
Starting point is 00:57:29 the second they like hard cuts to like a couple years later yeah and the serial killer while he's in jail has like amassed this cult following and so they help him break out of jail and the rest of the shows I'm trying to like track him down but the the dealings of there's one scene in particular that like freaked me the fuck out and I had to stop watching
Starting point is 00:57:50 I had to like wade myself off of true crime was there's a it's like I think it's the second season but there's like a handful of the cult members and they're chilling out of park and they're like for the next part of their plan they need to like kill somebody to like I forget exactly what but to like start off
Starting point is 00:58:08 the rest of their plan and so they're trying to decide who to kill and they're sitting in a park and one of the girls goes that guy and like points to a dude that's like walking walking by it through the park and they go oh why did you pick that guy and she goes because he looked like somebody that
Starting point is 00:58:24 made fun of me in high school and then they kill him and i was like that's like the that's terrifying that thought process shook me to my core because i was like there's nothing that guy did or could have done or didn't do that that that would have changed that reasoning other than maybe not being in the park at that time but how the fuck do you know that yeah there's just nothing you could do just that that kind of that kind of reasoning like shook me to my core i was like okay i got to And then I was also, I was watching criminal, I used to watch criminal minds. That was like one of my shows. And I remember, I was working at a frozen yogurt place at the time and would like close by myself at like midnight or whatever.
Starting point is 00:59:10 And I remember thinking to myself, like walking out to like throw, throw the garbage in the dumpster, like being all paranoid that like, you know, somebody's behind that, you know, just running through scenarios in my brain of how I'm going to die. And I was like, okay, Brandon, let's, let's reel us in. We got a, we got to, we got to, we're getting too paranoid right now. We got to, we got to stop, we got to stop watching Unsolved Mysteries and Dateline. We got to, we got to reel this in. Dude, I, when I was younger, I was all in on like all the scary movie marathons. And then I started having the craziest dreams. And I was like, you know, I think I'm going to taper back on this.
Starting point is 00:59:49 I guess this is just, so in an early age, I realized. like you know it just for for sustained positive health mentally i needed to uh stay away from the slasher's i feel yeah i feel i i enjoy the slasher's um because those they're they're like just absurd enough that you know i can it's it's the realistic stuff that fucks with me like the criminal minds and the i mean realistic in in quotes obviously because they're you know they embellish and all that but like that that kind of stuff the slasher is are like just and and like ghost stories are like just absurd enough that I can you know they don't they don't fuck with me that bad.
Starting point is 01:00:30 Yeah but anyways you know it was just wasn't a good movie but it wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen but I also will never would never like recommend it you know like if someone was like Heath what's a movie I should watch over Halloween? I was like I don't know you know I don't like I literally say I don't like scary movies. I'd maybe have them watch that one that we watched last year with where the dogs attack people. If you want to see it horrified, like just the dogs. Remember that has, I think Wolf the dentist was in it. The dogs.
Starting point is 01:01:11 And like the kids, like they either play they should they play the concert and then the the band sees them kill someone. And so they keep hold them prisoner there. and then they tried to escape and they sick the dogs on not not wolf the dentist you're talking about okay you're talking about green room now i remember green room that's uh it wasn't wolf the dentist it was uh the the iceland goon oh okay k lennox is the actor's name who played was it sanderson is that the iceland gune yeah that's what that was more scary than this one again that was terrifying again because it was like a real life yeah like that could happen yeah okay now i remember yeah that was the the nazi bar yeah um yeah that that's
Starting point is 01:01:53 That was a wild movie. That was a good one, though. I liked that one. But anyways, yeah. So I would necessarily recommend it to anyone, but it was, you know, I would recommend. I would recommend, I would recommend Shudder for a Halloween watch, especially if, like, if you're listening to the podcast and you care anything about the ducks. Like, I would, just because Joshua Jackson's in it, I would recommend it. Give it a shot.
Starting point is 01:02:14 And he does well. You know, Joshua Jackson, you know, name something he's not good in.
