Starting point is 00:00:00 what's up nerds this is adam and this is changelog news for the week of monday july 24th 2023 let's do this did you see that paul copplestone and team quietly took super base public earlier this morning. Yes, that's right. From beta to IPO is the new benchmark in unicorn status. Why is Paul calling me right now? Hello? Hey, Adam, that was just a joke. Are you serious?
Starting point is 00:00:42 That was just a joke. We're just being featured by Redpoint in their Infra 100 list. Okay. Yeah, they featured us on Times Square. It's so cool, right? Yeah, it's just a joke. I'll let them know. Okay, so apparently that was just a joke. And as an angel investor in Superbase, I guess I got a little too excited.
Starting point is 00:01:02 But it is true that Redpoint did feature them in Times Square for their Infra 100 list. This is the 100 transformative companies in cloud infrastructure. Quote, these trailblazers have set new benchmarks for reliability, scalability, security, and innovation, enabling businesses to thrive in a cloud era and ushering a new paradigm of building applications. The list, of course, includes Superbase, Jellyfish, Hugging Face, PlanetScale, Red Panda, Pulumi, Retool, Dagger, Incident.io, Linear, Railway, Neon, 1Password, Docker, Databricks, OpenAI, Replit, Sourcegraph, Vercel, and many, many more. The Infra 100 is Redpoint's annual thing now,
Starting point is 00:01:56 and they'll be doing this to honor the latest companies that have excelled in building next-generation cloud infrastructure solutions. Okay, so Twitter has officially changed its logo to the letter X. What letter is this? Look at that for yourself, Froggy. We did. What letter is this? These two lines that cross each other. What letter is this, huh?
Starting point is 00:02:16 Should we tell them? When you get two lines that cross like this, what letter is that? Anybody know? Let's do it on three. We'll tell them, okay? One, two, three. What letter is this? X! X! No. Let's do it on three. We'll tell them, okay? One, two, three. What letter is it? X. X.
Starting point is 00:02:28 And according to Musk, he tweeted, I mean, X did, quote, and soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and gradually all the birds, end quote. And Linda Iaccarino, CEO of Twitter, I mean, X, says, quote, it's an exceptionally rare thing in life or in business that you get a second chance to make another big impression. X is the future state of unlimited interactivity centered in audio, video, messaging, payments, banking, creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunity. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we're just beginning to imagine. There is absolutely no limit to this transformation. X will be the platform that can deliver, well, everything. Elon Musk and I are looking forward to working with our teams and every single one of our partners to bring X to the world, end quote.
Starting point is 00:03:23 So I guess tweeting will become X-ing and Musk. Well, I just don't even know what to say about this. It's just the craziest thing, but that's where we're at in this world. Crazy things happen every day. Next up, GitHub's Copilot chat is now in public preview for businesses. Earlier this year, GitHub announced Copilot X, extending its Copilot code completion tool to more use cases. They also share plans for a chat GPT-based chatbot. And until now, this chatbot was only available in a private preview. But as of last Thursday, Copilot chat is now available as a public beta for all GitHub business users on Visual Studio and VS Code.
Starting point is 00:04:07 From the GitHub blog, quote, as we prepare to bring the entirety of GitHub Copilot X to general availability, we believe every developer could be made 10 times more productive. This means 10 days of work done in one day, 10 hours of work done in one hour, 10 minutes of work done with a single prompt command, end quote. First of all, that's a lot of 10s. And second, could this truly be the era of the 10x developer? Maybe our good friend Matt Ryer has some insights to share on this. A lot of people think 10x developers are mythical, like Australians. I haven't really got time to get into it now, but there's a lot of evidence that Australia is not real. What?
Starting point is 00:04:47 But this is real. I'm here to tell you that 10x developers do exist. I happen to be one of them. I'm coming to just admit that now and just be honest about it. And also come and just share 10 simple tips to be a 10x developer. Okay. Just give it away for free.
Starting point is 00:05:02 Of course, that clip comes from an episode of Change Login Friends, episode four, lovingly titled Matt Depends. So check the show notes for links to both Matt Depends and GitHub's announcement. And now for some sponsored news. Our friends at Speakeasy are using AI to automate API creation and distribution. Earlier this month, the company emerged from stealth with a $7.6 million seed investment. Last week was their first ever feature week, launched on July 10th through the 14th.
Starting point is 00:05:36 Now you can learn how they can help you to rapidly accelerate API adoption. Great APIs deserve great SDKs, and Speakeasy helps you instantly create SDKs that make API integration easy for your users. Learn more at speakeasyapi.dev. Again, speakeasyapi.dev. Big thanks to Speakeasy for launching on ChangeLog News. And this just in from Apple, the Vision Pro Developer Kit is available on loan. Yes, they say, quote, we'll loan you a Vision Pro Developer Kit to prepare your app for the launch of the new app store on Vision Pro, end quote. And here's what you get. You get help setting up the device and onboarding.
Starting point is 00:06:18 You get check-ins with Apple experts for UI design and development guidance and help refining your app. And you also get two additional code level support requests so you can troubleshoot any issues with your code. Apple then goes on to say, quote, this development kit needs to be returned upon request, end quote. So how do you apply? Well, first off, go to the newsletter, click the link, but you'll need to be an account holder in the Apple developer program. Provide some details about your skills and existing apps. And of course, agree to their terms and conditions. But before you do that, you might want to look at the TechCrunch article just last week titled VR is dead.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Both are linked in the newsletter. Last story of the week. Okay, so last week on Change Logging Friends, we invited Brian Cantrell and Steve Tuck to talk about Oxide, the Home Lab, and a bunch of other fun stuff. Here is a clip of Brian laying out their 2050 roadmap and how Oxide will eventually be available in the Home Lab. In order for us to be able to, and this is the hand on heart honest answer, in order for us to be able to ever serve those smaller edge use cases,
Starting point is 00:07:32 which is still probably in the enterprise, but would get us much closer to the home lab, we need to survive and thrive as a company. And that means we got to focus on this core market that we're going after, which is this enterprise DC market. So good answer. Yeah, I'll put my hat down then
Starting point is 00:07:44 because I for sure agree with extreme focus. So I give you that. However, I will also say I begin with if you conquer. Okay. I mean, we can look forward to the future. Like, yes, absolutely. For sure. There you go. There you go. Yes. I do feel that like we, I mean, our aspirations are really to be the kind of company that young engineers can come up in, that customers love to buy from, that people are enthusiastic about. And it's like we're veterans, right? And we are trying to pull from the best of our collective pasts and careers and where companies really get this right. And then they lose their way. And we want to certainly seen a lot of, and we are trying to pull from the best
Starting point is 00:08:27 of that and build something that can be really generational and special. So yes, in that future, absolutely. Fantastic. Home Lab. Yes. Oxide Home Lab edition. He finally landed on the correct answer. 2050 Oxcon is going to be just really the big announcement there.
Starting point is 00:08:42 Okay. As we finally serve the Home Lab. That is the news for now. Check the companion newsletter for more length and more fun. changelog.com slash news. You'll see the most recent episode right there for you. Coming up later this week, Jared and I talk to Solomon Hikes about Dagger, Docker, and the state of deploying applications to production. And on Friday, join me and Techno Tim as we discuss all things HomeLab.
Starting point is 00:09:10 I think you'll enjoy it. Come back on Friday for that. Once again, check the companion newsletter for more links and more fun. And that's it. If you dig this, share it with a friend. We appreciate it. Bye for now.
