The Chaser Report, Global World International News Headlines Update with Rebecca Dayunamuno. Queensland Premier Anastasia Palishe has announced that Queensland will go into further lockdown after she was contacted by Meatloaf's management, letting her know that he was free for the AFL Grand Final. The Premier said Queenslanders had suffered enough already this year without having to listen to an ageing rock star sing about pursuing young girls, saying it risked causing a second bout of mass public illness. Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has been slammed for listening to medical experts instead of former AFL players.

Speaking on Sky News, Andrew Bolt called for Luke Darcy to immediately be appointed Chief Medical Officer. Scott Morrison has responded to critics claiming that the video of him making a cubby house shows he's not a very good handyman. The Prime Minister said he was actually very handy with tools, citing years of experience dealing with Tony Abbott. That's the latest Chaser news.

Now it's time for Nina O'Yama to take Charles Firth and Dom Knight on a trip to the VMAs. Thanks, Beck. Now, Dom and Charles, this week the MTV VMAs were on, which you probably were not aware of. In fact, I'm not even sure if you know what the VMAs are. How old do you think we are? That's the thing we're just yesterday. Kanya interrupted Taylor Swift, isn't it?

Yeah, you're right. I mean, that is the VMAs. To be honest, I don't think that you're out of touch because you're old. I just didn't see you as like pop culture connoisseurs like me, for example. Yeah, I thought VMA referred to some sort of venereal disease. That's the after party. But just in case you didn't know, the MTV VMA stands for the video music awards. And they provided a lot of amazing moments over the years.

Dom you just named one, which is the Kanye West Taylor Swift feud. Do you remember this, Charles? I do not remember that. I'm going to let you finish. It sounds plausible. Well, basically, Taylor Swift. And Taylor Swift did something controversial. They got VMAs from each other.

What did they do? They hooked up at the video. No, no, they did the opposite of, they didn't do the opposite. They had a fight because Taylor Swift won the award for best music video. And then Kanye West rushed onto the stage and he was like, I'm going to let you finish. But Beyonce, in the middle of Taylor Swift's speech, he cut her off. and he said, I'm going to let you finish, but Beyonce had the best music video of all time.

And he was, of course, referencing the single lady's video clip where they did the cool dancing. Well, I mean, I do think that whenever Taylor Swift does anything, someone should say, yeah, but Beyonce is better than her. I think that seems reasonable to me. Yeah, I'll pay that. But that's not the only cool moment. A few other moments that have come across the years

are like Miley Cyrus twerking, Madonna kissing Britney Spears on the mouth, which was highly publicized. Free Britney. Free Britney. And there was also a weird incident where Lisa Marie, Presley and Michael Jackson made out. And then they were like, we're never going to, we're never going to break up. And then like broke up a year later.

So there's just a lot of weird things that happened at the VMAs. And this year was no different. Just kidding. It was very different. This year's VMAs were very boring. And they were also held remotely. So they weren't as fun because usually there's like a live crowd to amp everyone up and react to like crazy moments throughout the night. But it could.

Could Kanye West send in his own video of himself storming into his kitchen or something? I mean, in theory, yes. And I kind of wish that would have happened. Yeah. Pretty Zoom bomb, Taylor or something like that. I just feel like the Kardashians have sedated him permanently and just like locked him in a room in their house never to leave. Not enough. He's still running for president, by the way.

But anyway, that's another conversation. I mean, technically he is. But I'm going to give you a quiz on the best moments of the VMAs throughout the years. and including this year. So it's a multiple choice quiz. Oh, good. So don't worry, you have a one in three chance of getting it wrong if you just guess. That's mostly for you, Charles, because I feel like you...

I know nothing about the VMOs. Well, this is exciting for me because I know too much about them. So this year's host is Kiki Palmer. I'm not sure if you know who she is. She's an actress. She's most best known... Kiki? Kiki.

Kiki? No, I don't know. Oh, okay. I've got excited. Palmer. Is that the singer of The Cure? No. Is it Clive Palmer's daughter or something?

No. Kiki Palmer is a singer and actress. She's known for her roles in the movie Hustlers and also on the Nickelodeon's Kid Show, True Jackson VP, where I think she played a vice president of a fashion. Is she still speaking English, Charles? She played a vice president of a fashion company. So I guess there is, no, there's no political. There's no political connection there.

But my question is, what is Kiki Palmer's opinion on Dick Cheney? Is it A, she doesn't know who he is, B, she identifies as queer and criticised him for treating his lesbian daughter badly, or C, she is pro-Republican and she thinks he is her idol. Oh, God, they're all completely could be true, couldn't they? I suspect that Kiki Palmer is probably about 12 years old because she's like... She's actually 27, which is the same way to me. So that means, I don't think she'll know. I think it's A.

Hang on to say. She doesn't know Dick Cheney is. Let's do some research. Nana, do you know who Dick Cheney is? Of course I know who Dick Cheney is. Okay, I think it's probably number two then. What's number two? The Mentee's lesbian daughter.

But he, oh, no, so it's not Amanda Kiki Palmer's or whatever name his daughter. No. It's, it's, it's, Dick Cheney's daughter. Okay. You can have that one. Okay, so you're saying she doesn't know who he is. Yeah. And Dom, you're saying that she's queer and she's mad at Dick Cheney for being homophobic.

The answer is, A, she doesn't know who Dick Cheney is. And this is one of my favorite gaffes of anyone ever. This is after her being asked about Dick Cheney. I hate to say it. I hope I don't sound ridiculous. I don't know who this man is. I mean, he could be walking down the street. I wouldn't know a thing.

Sorry to this man. I mean, that is fair. Dick Cheney spent the entire time he was. vice president in an undisclosed location. So he didn't like the show's face. I just think it's so funny. And I love it when she's like, sorry to this man. Well, she doesn't know who he is because if she did, there is no way she'd

apologized to him. Yeah, that's true. All right. My second question is about Lady Gaga and her meat dress. Now, the next three questions are about Lady Gaga. I'm a big Lady Gaga fan. That was a great moment. It was a very iconic moment.

Do you know who Lady Gaga is, Charles? Yes, of course I do. When I lived in New York. She used to be playing bars in New York, like just when she was obscure. Before you'd heard of her. Yeah, before we'd heard of her. And we kept it, like people always said, oh, Lady Gaga's playing at this thing. Oh, see, are you an original Lady Gaga fan?

Are you what they call a little monster? And I never ever went and saw her. So it's not a great anecdote. Many years ago, you and Lady Gaga were living in the same city. You are unaware that she existed, so you didn't get to see them playing bars. Neither of us were particularly successful at the time, and neither of us met. And then she went on to great success. You would have been successful by osmosis.

But anyway, my next question is about Lady Gaga's meat dress. When did she wear it? Was it A, 2010, B, 2013 or C, 2014? It's definitely 2010, because I was living in New York in 2007, and she became famous just after that, so I reckon 2010. It would have been a breakout moment. I think it's 2013 because I think it's the last year that I paid any attention to pop culture at all.

So you're saying A, 2010, B, 2013. Yeah. The answer is A, 2010. Two points for Charles. Maybe, maybe I'm not as dumb as you think I am now. I think you're lying. I think you're playing pretend dumb. Yeah, exactly.

To try and win points in this game. Okay, so this year, let's throw it back, throw it back, throw it forward to this year when Lady Guy actually won four awards and gave a very iconic speech. In the speech, what was the most famous quote from this year's speech? Is it A, there can be 100 people in a room, 99 don't believe in you, but one does, it can change everything? Is it B, I didn't come here for the California roll.

If you want to win an award, don't eat the California rolls. Is it C, I wore a mask tonight to show the importance of keeping other people safe. I know I look like in Morton Joe, but it was worth it for the message. In brackets, laughs. Well, it's probably three because everyone's posturing about COVID in the US. And she was wearing a mask. I like to think that it's actually A because the 99 people who didn't believe in her included Charles for many years.

So I got to go with A. I wasn't even in the room. I was the 101st person. No, I think it's definitely C, like the mask one. Definitely C. definitely see incorrect both of you the answer is B roll the clip and I remember that they used to ask me hey LG why aren't you eating

and I said because I didn't come for the California roll California rolls are gross so I'm with I'm with LG on that one is the point that she didn't just go with the standard fair is it is it like a metaphor is it don't ever eat if you want to be famous in pop music I think it's more like, don't eat if you mean business. It was a very straight, not don't eat, but it was kind of like she was talking about being whined and dined by people and she would never eat.

She didn't drink the Kool-A. Yeah, she would always just get a whiskey need. And she just says people never order the California roll. I mean, that's great health advice from an influential woman. Also, who eats California rolls? Like, I'm Japanese. It's not real food. They don't serve it.

I must say I love California. They're not Japanese. Oh, really? White boy. There's a butter chicken of Japanese food. I love butter chicken. So the Lady Gaga Chromatica album came out this year and it's what she won an award for.

My question for you is, why is it called Chromatica? Is it because A, every track is named after chrome colors such as silver, gunmetal and aqua steel? Is it B, because it's set on the planet Chromatica, which is a fictional planet where everyone loves one another and everyone is equal? or is it C, there's no overarching theme. It's just what the album is called. It's got to be B, surely.

It's another planet where everyone's happy. I think it's C and she just thought it was a cool word. So you're going B and see, the answer is B. The planet grammatica is where everyone is equal. I can't believe you're doing so well at this chance. I am so unexpectedly good at this. Hang on, doesn't that mean none of the planet chromatica, everyone's named after a different colour?

No, so the different colour thing is something. something that I made up. Okay. But the album is very good and it's a disco pop album that features Elton John and Black Pink. I'm pleased to say that I have listened to the first Lady Gaga album. That's it. But it's something. You're missing out.

You're missing out. So my next question, don't worry. This is almost finished. This is the second last question. Kanye West and Taylor Swift had a feud as I've previously explained. And they actually patched everything up in 2016 at the MVA. their VMAs. But now they are feuding again. And why is that? Is it A? Because Taylor Swift wore the same dress as Kim Kardashian and she was voted the winner in a Who wore it better segment

in Vogue magazine? Is it B? Because Kanye said Taylor Swift said it was okay for him to call her a bitch in a song. So he did. And Taylor Swift denies this. Or is it C because Taylor Swift was in another feud with Katie Perry and Kanye Wes had just had dinner with Katie Perry and tweeted that he was Team Katie. I know this one because Kanye West is the one person I actually keep track of

because he's hilarious. Okay so do you want to option B? Ah, okay, yes. You're correct. It was option B and later Kim Kardashian came out with a recording of Taylor Swift giving Kanye permission to put her in his... Oh my God.

In his song. There were tapes. But then there were another tape that came out during the Taylor Swift documentary, where she said, I gave him permission to use my name. I didn't give permission for him to call me a bitch. Which makes sense. Yeah, which makes sense. So I'm, I'm Team Taylor. No, she's not.

I love Team Taylor. Okay. For the record, I would definitely advance it be in that. Yeah, sure you would. I get the points too. Okay. Well, we're on two and three. So this is Dom's chance to redeem himself.

All right. So this final clip, it's from 2015. This is another very iconic MTV moment. when Nikki Minaj called out Miley Cyrus. So I want you to listen to this clip and then I'm going to ask you what she's referencing. Back to this bitch that had a lot to say about me the other day in the press.

Miley, what's good? So Nikki Minaj is calling out Miley Cyrus, but what is she referencing? Is she referencing A, when Miley Cyrus slut shamed Nikki for sleeping with Drake and Lil Wayne? Or B, when Nikki's music video, Anaconda was not nominated for an award

amongst all white contenders and Nikki criticized MTV and Miley says Miley said Nikki was not polite or was it from C when Nicky said Miley Cyrus was culturally appropriating black culture with her music from The Bangers album. Can I say D? I don't care.

Unfortunately, that is not an option. Okay, well I'm just going to roll the dice and say A. The premise of this quiz is that you care, Charles. I, yeah, I think it's the appropriation. one, whatever that one was. The B, there was B. B. So B is correct. Yes. So you're both winners. Sorry, Charles, but you should have tried. That way you could have possibly won. So basically what happened was Nikki's video Anaconda was not nominated for a music video award when a lot of white women had been nominated and she brought it up on Twitter and everyone

acted like she was overreacting. But in hindsight, I actually think she was correct. And Miley Sarah criticized Nikki, and then Nikki confronted her on stage at the awards. Wow. And it was a very big moment and everyone was like Team Nicky. And they were like, Miley, what's good? And then it became a popular meme. So does this mean that Miley's now cancelled? No, Miley's been cancelled way too many times.

Team Liam. So you can't cancel Miley because she's already cancelled. No. And with that, let's finish this segment. We're out of time or just out of interest from Charles.
