Today's show host Carl Stefanovic cut off her microphone after she surprised him by spouting the exact opinions that she'd been invited on the show to talk about. The psychic later blamed her lack of psychic abilities on internet. interference caused by nearby 5G towers. Prisons across Australia have been forced to open their doors, releasing every single person in custody after learning that the prisoners do not consent to being arrested

Starting point is 00:01:11 That's the latest Chaser news. Check out chaser.com.com for more updates. Now it's time for Dom, Charles and Nina. Thanks, Beck. Time for another mini edition of the Chaser report. Dom Knight here with Charles Firth and Nina Ayama. And time to talk about my dog, guys. I have, in my family, I have a wife, I have a two-year-old, and I have a dog. And is this the one where you got caught not cleaning up after the dog, when it did a poo?
Starting point is 00:01:37 Didn't happen. And he gave it. Not a real thing. Right. That was a whole episode of our radio show that we used to have somewhere else. Let's never speak about it again. And a listener called in and said, I've seen Dom Nightwalking, and it was like in the right, you know, like suburb.
Starting point is 00:01:50 Wait, you got shamed by a listener. Yeah. You got snitched on by a listener. On air, saying he didn't pick up the poo of the dog. Do you want to hear the story or do you want to look at the last time I was terrible dog. Ring, ring. We've got another listener. Wow, that's a record for going off the rails.
Starting point is 00:02:09 Thank you, Charles. So, got a dog and got a two-year-old. Now, we love grapes. Do you clean up the two-year-olds poo as well, or do you just leave that for your wife to clean up? Do you want to clean up the audio on this segment, Charles? Okay, so the two-year-old, my daughter loves grapes. We all love grapes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:02:24 I'm always buying red grapes. So I'm special at the moment, actually. very good, very tasty red grapes. I don't think red grapes are very good and I actually, I have a suspicion that you're working for big red grape. I am. Funny you mention that. So look, they're very nice things.
Starting point is 00:02:37 They're delicious. I like the bottled form where, you know, you sort of crash them up and ferment them for a couple years. Yeah, that's also good to do this year. The way this segment's going, I'm going to need some of that. So, okay, so what we do is we cut them in half and we get them to my daughter and she just loves them. It's one of her all-time favorites.
Starting point is 00:02:56 So one of the things that happens is our dog is a massive scab And he sits under the table during dinner And occasionally my daughter just like drops food deliberately for the dog This happened the other day And she just dropped half a grape on the ground And the dog went yonk and just ate it Just ate that grape Now the thing is it turns out
Starting point is 00:03:17 And I had no idea about this before I married my wife And had a dog But there are some foods that dogs cannot eat Right? Yes. Yeah And in fact we learnt this after our work wedding where we decided to get a whole bunch of lovely Hague's chocolate for all the guests. We had all this leftover stuff that no one had because by that stage of the night,
Starting point is 00:03:33 they were having other substances. So we brought back all this chocolate, put it like on the sofa or something and the dog got in there and ate it and it got incredibly sick and nearly died. So our wedding nearly killed our dog, is what I'm saying. That was the first I'd learn that you can't give dogs just any old food. Dom, everyone knows that you can't give dogs chocolate. Well, I didn't know. Did you know that, Nina?
Starting point is 00:03:55 Oh yeah, I know that. Everyone knows it. I don't believe you, but anyway. So here's the question. The question is, the dog's just had half a grape and me, half a red grape. Is that a problem, yes or no? I'm going to say no. Do you reckon that's worth worrying about?
Starting point is 00:04:12 Just half one red grape. Well, since you've made it into an entire mini episode anecdote, I am going to say, yes, I think probably it is some sort of problem for some reason. So as a responsible dog owner, as I am, Charles, I looked at it. up on the internet. And I found this text, you should never feed grapes or raisins to your dog. Grapes and raisins contain toxic compounds, so you cannot give them any, even a small amount that can make them very sick or maybe die. That can lead to rapid kidney failure and death. I'm quoting healthline.com rapid kidney failure and death. We rang the vet. We said, look,
Starting point is 00:04:47 probably not a big deal. The dogs just had like just half a grape that my daughter chucks in the ground. The vet said, bring the dog. in right now right now pack the dog in the car drove off to the vet the couple of suburbs away the dog went straight into emergency they gave the dog Oscar they gave him a tablet to make him vomit threw it up there was the grape and then here's the interesting thing they gave the dog another drug so that he wouldn't vomit anymore so they made him vomit and then stopped him vomiting which makes me think where is that drug when we go out drinking Anyway, so there you go.
Starting point is 00:05:26 So it all happens. The dog's fine. The grape's out of the dog. The dog's not going to die. Chipper, and it's right as rain. The bill, guess how much it costs to take your dog to the vet, have them spew up a grape and then, you know, be fine again? What do you reckon?
Starting point is 00:05:41 What do you think, Charles? It's going to be a lot, I don't know, 250 backs, doesn't mean? Pretty close. What do you think, Nana? Oh, I was going to go way high. I was going to say $2,000. This isn't America, this isn't the American milk care system. Well, I don't have a dog.
Starting point is 00:05:54 I have to just take care of myself and I don't even know how to do that. So the point is it's much more expensive for a dog than for a human. Human, you'd go to the hospital and it'd be free, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. $220 was to bill. Yeah, right. Just because of half a damn great.
Starting point is 00:06:08 But he got through dog triage. He got rushed through dog trios. Yeah, yeah. They did a good job. So my question for you guys is, I mean, how common is this knowledge? Can you pick, based on a healthline.com article that I found. Yes. What foods dogs can and can't eat.
Starting point is 00:06:24 We know chocolate to know. No, yes. We know that grapes and raisin are a no. We know that now. What do you think about peanut butter? Nina? Oh, that's a yes. And do you want to know why I know that they can eat that?
Starting point is 00:06:37 No, you probably don't. I do. Yeah. Because there was a rumor at my school that someone put peanut butter on their groin and had their dog lick it up. And that's apparently a treat. Oh, my gosh. Not a treat.
Starting point is 00:06:50 You shouldn't do that ever, obviously. but that's how I know that peanut butter is safe for dogs. Funny thing. Someone at my school had exactly the same rumour, only it was a cat and it was butter. And I once, I made a comment about the butter and got punched in the head. So that was dangerous for me.
Starting point is 00:07:06 Anyway, okay, no, peanut butter is okay, making them fat, but it's not dangerous. What about eggs? Can dogs have regular hen eggs? I'm going to say yes because I'm pretty sure my dad gives his dog's eggs. So yes. He definitely can't.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Yep, eggs is absolutely fine. What do you think about onions? Can dogs have onions? You can give them quite a lot of fruit and veg. What about onions? I reckon you can do onions if it's cooked and if it's not cooked, it's a no-go. I like that too.
Starting point is 00:07:38 But that's just on the basis of me not liking raw onions. Yes. And fair enough, too. I mean, the dog's best are already bad enough, right, without onions. No, absolutely toxic to dogs. It gives them anemia. Enemia. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:50 How have dogs survive? amongst humans for 10,000 years. They may need a blood transfusion after your dogs eat, don't you? They've been hanging out with white people. You guys don't use any spices. Bearing in mind that dogs eat everything, right? That's lying around. They just eat every damn thing.
Starting point is 00:08:06 So that's a no. What about watermelon? Can dogs just have a bit of watermelon? What do you think? Oh, watermelon would be pretty harmless. Yeah, it's mostly water. Yeah, it's pretty much fine. Healthy treat for a dog.
Starting point is 00:08:17 And one time a girl at my school put a watermelon in. No, just kidding. Smeared in peanut butter. What about avocado? The smashed Avo is the the food of now, right? No, that'll give the dog the runs, I reckon. Yeah, I'm going to say no as well. Avocados can kill dogs.
Starting point is 00:08:36 The toxin called person. It can cause oxygen deprivation or even death. So yeah, Avo's a note. What do you think about peas? Also green... Well, peas was the first crop ever cultivated. Was it? I had no idea.
Starting point is 00:08:53 It's about 12,000 years of agriculture have gone into peas. So I'm going to say, yes, dogs can eat peas. Does that mean everything green, that's a fruit or vegetable has come from a pea? Yes, it does. Apples are actually just peas. Wow, much like every dog has come from a wolf. Yeah. What do you think, peas?
Starting point is 00:09:13 Yeah, I'm going to say yes to peas. Peas is a yes, green peas are fine. We are nailing this test, by the way. We're nailing it, all right. Yeah. What do you think about garlic? Like a lot of food. has, you're saying spices and flavour and so, and a lot of food has garlic.
Starting point is 00:09:25 Well, of course, garlic is just peas. So, what are you going to say? No, I feel like garlic has onion energy. Yeah, I think garlic is basically an onion. Yeah. Massive vomiting and diarrhea and anemia again. Well done. Dogs can get anemia from anything, it sounds like.
Starting point is 00:09:46 Well, because I think strict vegans don't eat onions or garlic, do that. No, that's the Fodmat. diet. Oh, is it the Fod members? Yeah. That's a completely different diet. What about lemons or lion citrus? Well, would they want to eat lemons?
Starting point is 00:10:03 Like if we're reading them. What about, well, if you had a bit of fish and you seasoned it with a lemon. If you give your dog lemons, he makes lemonade. No, not really. What he does make is vomit and diarrhea. It sounds like dogs only have three tricks, anemia, vomit and diarrhea. It's just diet. They're not complex being.
Starting point is 00:10:21 And look, my favourite item on this very, very long list of things that they can and can't eat is alcohol. Can dogs have alcohol? What do you think? It's 20. I know this because I saw Lisa Vanderpump's dog drink some of her champagne and it lived. Yep. And there's that famous Henry Lawson or Benjah Patterson tale about the dog who drinks alcohol.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Is that? Or are you drunk? Do you want to know a fun fact? Where I grew up in St. Leonard's, there's a cave, just like a, there's a kind of forest area and there's like a big cave and it was called Henry Lawson's cave. Because he apparently lived in my street and whenever he got sick of his wife, he would go to the cave and just drink and live there for a little while. Well, probably with his dog.
Starting point is 00:11:11 Yeah. He probably shared the alcohol with. His drinking buddy. Yes, exactly. So not that I want to challenge the habits of our bush bar, but no, dogs should not have alcohol, it can cause tiredness, lack of coordination, seigness, vomiting, and diaries. So just the same as humans, in other words.
Starting point is 00:11:29 So it is very hard, isn't it? I mean, do you agree with my premise here that it is difficult to know what to give a dog? If the dog has drunk alcohol, do they then have a hair of the dog the next morning? They're always having hair of the dog. No, it's actually called a hair of a human when a dog drinks it. Right, okay. When a dog has a hangover.
Starting point is 00:11:48 I mean, we, after this incident happened, we did feel, Like, how would you know that would seem like as a random thing? And said, don't worry, it happens all the time. But there is a sequel to this story, which is that on the weekend, a couple of days later, I thought the dog was upstairs. And so I thought, well, look, we've got the rest of this thing of grapes. I'm going to give my daughter some grapes. Cut up the grapes, gave them to her.
Starting point is 00:12:13 She threw one on the ground. The dog was under the table. The dog ate the grape. No. We weren't even sure if the dog had eaten the grape or not, right? And so I just looked on the ground. I could see it's a tiny little bit of kind of pulp. And I thought, freaking dogs eating the grape.
Starting point is 00:12:31 Ring the vet. Look, we're not even sure if the dog's eaten the grape. We don't even know what's going on here. Bring the dog leave. It gets the drug that makes the dog vomit. And then the drug that makes it not vomit again. There was no sign of any grape. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:12:50 And then said, look, this has happened twice in a week. We want to do a blood test. I'm not clear whether the blood test was a punishment for us neglecting the dog. And they're like, what else have you been doing this to the dog? Or what the deal was. Guess what the bill was. It was on a Sunday as well. But did you get a second time in a week?
Starting point is 00:13:07 Did you get a two for one discount, you know, on the grape dream? No, we got a two for one neglect search. It was $330. Oh, man. So, $550 in a week. And for a total. of one grape. I love my dog.
