I don't want it to be true. But I can't dismiss what the president said to Dan Bongino about nationalizing the elections. It's a weird word for him to use because it reflects somebody putting an idea in his head. And this is the ugly baby of two different monsters.

One is his inability as a man to accept. that he lost the last election, and their concerns about the economy getting them wiped out in the midterms. The reason that I can't just say, this is another wacky thing that the president said, which I give him the perverse defense of on a regular basis, right? Don't take it so seriously.

Don't take it so seriously. But here, when you take what he said with putting the Director of National Intelligence in a position to work with the FBI, to take boxes that have already been counted, audited, and recounted by Republicans, okay? And then put the president on the phone with them when they're doing it. And then he says, as you're going to see in Georgia, how? How does he already know what we're going to see in the ballots from Georgia, from Fulton County?

This is why I say there's a plan. I'm Chris Cuomo. Welcome to the Chris Cuomo Project. Look, I do not like playing in this kind of ugly, dark speculation. But I have a duty. And I'll put the pieces together for you. I'll give you the ingredients and you tell me if it makes soup. Okay?

there is no question that the president has a hard on for the 2020 election. And I will just throw one thing out there to you people like, yeah, because it was rigged. How did the Democrats have the ability with a Republican, you know, plenty of Republican population in that infrastructure in Georgia, right? You have Republicans in positions of power over the election. Okay. How do the Democrats figure out how to rig the 2020 election? election when they were out of power. But they couldn't rig it in 2024 when they were in power.

No, not because they had made changes and blah, blah, blah, blah. No, that just doesn't make sense. Okay. So what does make sense? The president doesn't want to accept that he lost. How do we know? Because he was so intent on not losing that he very arguably broke the law. law to try to keep from losing. I mean, there is no amount of irony that can satisfy people voting for Trump for law and order and to get away from lawfare when at the same time, this guy did exactly what you don't want done. Oh, Jack Smith is a partisan. Since when? Did you see his testimony? He was so IDGAF. This is how it is. This is what I could have done. I absolutely could have convicted him beyond a reasonable doubt. We're not allowed to. I absolutely could have. He had zero

fucks to give with all of that questioning. What do we know? Rudy lost on defaming, lost his law license for cooking up controversies and conspiracies about what happened with voting. every single thing. You know, they were bundling voting, there were fake votes, there were illegal votes. All of these things have been found lacking multiple times except what?

The Fugazi electors, right? Jenna Ellis, other representatives of this president, being proven to have lied about things, law licenses compromised, the electors, the fake votes stuff, It was all audited multiple times. Why does he keep going at it?

One basic reason, as petty as it is, he doesn't want to admit that he lost. This is a man who called somebody and said, find me 30,000 votes. A Republican, he called. And that lawmaker came clean about it. I mean, again, forget about the easy analysis of, man, imagine if you found out Biden did that.

And what does that tell us? Well, first of all, what it tells us is facts and feel, right? The feel is we are so binary, we are so divided, especially on the right. I'm sorry. I'm not sorry at all. Zero. Zero. Sorry.

MAGA is uniquely, until Epstein, uniquely forgiving of their own. Uniquely with this President Trump. Uniquely forgiving of this man and this president. Okay? So, the irony aside, someone called hypocrisy, but I get it that you're so desperate to not be the other side that you'll accept whatever you have to in your side, even if it's exactly what you say you oppose. We are where we are. You were given two shitty choices because it's a binary system that's a battle to the bottom of which is worse. I am sorry for that too. I'm trying to destroy it. Very good news. Fastest growing part of the U.S. electorate just came out in the Gallup poll. biggest number in 30 years of their measuring, 45% of American voters say,

I am not Republican or Democrat, I am independent. Now, all independents are not the same. They are the opposite of a pack animal, hence the word independent. They can be really conservative. They can believe the Democrats don't go far enough, dark woke, as it's sometimes called. So it's hard to get them, a little bit of hurting cats,

but it's a great sign for getting away from this binary system. Okay. Georgia, they see. the ballots. How did they get a search warrant to take the ballots? What was the crime? After everything that was done, what was the crime? What was the search warrant? They don't want to tell us. Wow. The DNI, what is that about? Why aren't they talking about it? Because they're cooking it up. Okay? This is not a cautious or close counsel administration. Okay?

and for him to say, as you're going to see, they don't know what they're going to see. He's looking for something. It's like the old Russian compromise proverb of, you show me the man, I'll find you the crime. That's what's going on here. Why? Well, one is this petty vindication of something he can't change, which is the past, and a basis for trying to change what he can control, which is the future. All right.

Now that we have the idea, how? Okay, so let's go to what the mechanism is. Here's the big misunderstood problem, okay? Yes, there is an overwhelming, not only is it a law, not only is it federal law, but it is in the Constitution, and it's one of the first things they put in it, okay? The Elections Clause is Article 1, Section 1. for Clause 1, okay? It grants the states, specifically state legislatures, primary authority over TPM of elections, okay? Time, place, and manner. What does that mean? It means like what it says.

Now, here's the big but, okay? Congress does have the ability to check states. When have we seen this? one big way that I can think of, which is the Voting Rights Act, and what states had to allow in terms of access, which would go to manner, okay? And poll taxes, stuff like that. But not to do them. That was Congress, overrode states. Okay, so they did that. What else did they do?

Or you got to use paper ballots. Congress did that too. But why do I know the times that Congress has stepped on this in meaningful ways? because they never do it. They never do it. So the idea that they would do it now, on what basis? Okay, so can they nationalize elections? That's the word he used.

Why did he use the word nationalize? I think it's because he got something confused. He meant to say federalize. He said nationalize. And when you listen to the sound bite, you can see he's playing with his words. I don't think he's being clever. I think he's being clumsy where he's not really sure how to say it. Because what was told to him is, hey, you know, we can take him over.

If we can find what's happening in Georgia, we can use it as a basis, have Congress. Now, I don't know how they do that because I don't know how you'd get through the filibuster. I think that you'd have to be so scared of what's about to happen in the midterms. that you would have the Senate blow up the filibuster to pass the law to allow. See, now here's the next problem. Well, then who would control the midterms? Well, Congress would pass the law, but it's really Congress that has the power. Could Congress pass a law to give power to the president over the elections?

I do not think so. I think you wind up in the Supreme Court. Well, he controls the Supreme Court. I don't know about that either. Are they deferential to his side? Yeah, they populated it with conservatives. I mean, one of the things we got to get past is not this, there's no such thing as expertise, there's no such thing as science, you know, but just see what is obvious. Every human being has bias.

Okay, we are subjective animals unless things are strictly quantitative. You were either there or you weren't. Two plus two is four, always. Very few things fall into that bucket, all right? There's a lot of subjectivity. Human beings are going to play to that. There's going to be bias. The idea that somebody belongs to an anti-abortion group

and that that's not going to come into play as a judge is stupid. It's just stupid that we would even suggest that. So we need to drop that pretense. And I believe that we should go back to the way it used to be, which is people who wanted to be, Supreme Court justices talk to you about their politics. Now, you know where they're coming from, right? I mean, there's a reason that that party's picking them, right?

Yes, but I think to what degree is going to be a big thing here? Yes, Congress has ultimate, paramount overriding authority to alter or make regulations at any time, except oddly for the place of choosing senators, which is, I don't understand why. But they can pass legislation that supersedes state rules regarding federal elections, of course, not state elections, but federal elections. But can they take them over all the way? I don't think so. And I don't get that state-by-state election of senators thing. I guess it's just back to senators used to be so much more important and state legislatures used to pick them. So I guess it was just keeping a very specific power that mattered a lot, especially at the time in the states. But so the idea that the states

control the elections, he doesn't have the power to do this. He specifically does not have the power to do this. There's absolutely no mention in the Constitution of anything to do with the executive having anything to do with the election process. And there is no case law. There is no precedent of us believing anything else. Well, he could declare martial law and then there aren't elections. Yes. Yes. Something like that could happen. It's possible. Do I think it's probable? No, I don't. Not at this point. Whoa, not at this point. You know, seriously? You think I'm wrong or cynical to not be open to any possibility? I mean, look at what we deal with on a daily basis. There's some new crazy shit I would have never thought could happen or be processed the way

it probably will be. So yeah, at this point, I don't see it. But let me keep taking you down the road of why I believe there's a road and a path to them messing with the midterms. So, yes, it is not inviolate, meaning that there's nothing you can do. The state's control. We're going to be fine. No. So they go into Georgia. They make some shit up about what's going on.

He uses it as impetus for the Republicans to pass a law that gives some kinds of different control to Congress over how elections are done. Like what? mandating single-day voting everywhere, mandating voter ID everywhere, mandating paper ballots, I don't know, I mean, you know, whatever it is. But they do it so that it's really restrictive.

So it limits the number of people that vote. And, I mean, to me, there is no coincidence that every reform that Republicans want would make less people vote. I mean, you know, you look at it yourself, you tell me where I'm wrong. I'll bet you a T-shirt, because that would make you a critical thinker,

critical thinker. Where do I get those? Look on the screen. So the idea that he's looking at Georgia because of just the past, I no longer believe that. I used to believe that. I no longer believe it. And there has to be something else at stake because he knows this is such a bad look for him. The only thing we know about Georgia that went wrong involved him.

Okay? All right. What's the next piece? The next piece is, so they're messing in Georgia. set a precedent to have them pass a law that does things to restrict voting and make it seem like it may not be legit unless it's their way. And it's all through Congress. So then what do they have to do to pass this law? They would have to blow up the filibuster. Now, the weird thing about the filibuster, and they say, you know, if you get rid of that, man, the next time you're in the minority,

you're going to regret it. But you do know that they could remove the filibuster and then put it back, right? It's not Humpty Dumpty. So you could have another in the future bring it back. Well, no, do that, the other side's going to do it too. How interesting. What an interesting instruction for us all. That there is something that is completely volitional by the people in power, that they don't do because they don't want to set the precedent that the other side can then do to them when they're in the majority. And here's why it's interesting to me. Wow. So there is still decency. So then it's not all dead. And what does that tell you? That the division is, somewhat manufactured. How do you know that? I could have done a whole piece just on this one idea,

by the way. And here's why. Because if the manufacturer was not the case, if the division was organic, if it was authentic, if it was real, if they really believed all the shit that they tell you about the left and vice versa, why wouldn't you blow up the filibuster? If I felt that you were a danger to the country as a minority population in our Congress, and I had the power? Do you think I would hesitate? Would you hesitate to get rid of the filibuster so you could just have simple majority passing things

that really mattered when you thought you were dealing with crazy slash evil people? Why don't they? Just because someday they'll be in the minority since when are these people forward looking? Seriously. What? Since when?

Why don't they fix Social Security? Because they don't give a peep. what happens eight, nine, ten years down the road. Right? So remember that. They don't mess with the filibuster because the division is manufactured. Isn't that interesting?

Okay. So they'd have to blow up the filibuster, though. There goes decency. But you know what? They might as well because you start messing with the elections. You're now messing with the soul of the country. This is the DNA, our elections. Okay.

So now they have their law. Now they have control. What does that mean in the midterms? Well, at a minimum that they're slow walking. In the main that they're reducing participation. And they're giving themselves a better chance. And if they can pin it on the Democrats somehow, which is, again, this is weird to discuss on one level because everything we know that went wrong in Georgia involves Trump. But we're in crazy land.

We're in the twilight zone. So, okay. Now you got some stink on the left going into the midterms, which have been fixed by Trump, and they're slow walking the process, and they're limiting who's participating. That's why they're doing it. That's why they're doing it. Now, why would they ever want to do that? Well, never forget that this is not a man of principle. This is a man of personal advantage, right? And of pragmatism at best, okay? Not principle. There is nothing bigger to him than he. himself and his self-interest. Okay? He can hug that American flag. I would bet my left nut.

He does not love the country as much as he loves himself. Okay. I'm not criticizing him. This is just, I mean, I am, but I'm saying I'm not trying to be mean, okay? I want to be instructive. I want to be incisive. I want to be helpful to you in your process as a critical thinker. Now, why would he be so worried about the midterms?

That piece matters too, because these things kind of go together. I think that the better his poll numbers, the least pissed off, the less pissed off he is, period, which means the less pissed off he is about what happened in Georgia, which means the less chance there is that he would try to mess with the midterms. So where is he in terms of how he should be feeling about the midterms? Why? Do you hear what Ted Cruz said to him? Reportedly, allegedly, you're going to live. lose house seats and Senate seats, and they're going to impeach you every day. Now, I really hope

that last part doesn't happen. Why? You don't have the votes to remove him. It is a political process impeachment. Okay. Removal is a straight up and down vote. You do not have, not up and down. It's not 50 plus one. You do not have the votes you need to remove him. It will not happen, so why put us through it? How odd.

That's what he campaigned on gas and groceries. This was supposed to be his strong suit as the economy, his highest numbers versus Biden or Harris or anyone, ability to control and impact the economy. because he's seen as a genius businessman, right? Marketing. He's a great salesman. He's not a great operator of businesses. Show me one, one other than his own personal industry of himself. Seriously, the bankruptcies, the debt, I mean, come on, it's not even a close call. You can't even find people who have worked with him who will say it any other way. Brilliant at sales, brilliant at ideas, brilliant at this. Nobody says he's a great manager.

He's great at budgets on time. He pays everybody. Nobody will say that. Anyway, because the economic indicators of what I keep explaining to you guys is a K-shaped economy, he's supposed to be a populist. K-shaped economy is what it sounds like, right?

K. One fork is going up. One fork is going down. The few, the investor economy, the people whose money is, largely tied to Wall Street are doing well and doing better now with Trump. Okay. A lot of it is extended, trending, but still. But the people that he's supposed to be for, that he's supposed to be their retribution, right? MAGA. A lot of the mostly the MAGA people who are not on the top

are not doing better under his policies. And I know there are future promises of that tariffs will pay off for us on that level and all that. I don't know. I don't know right now. Right now, that's straight ifs and butts land. And you know what they say? Ifs and butts with cherries and nuts, we'd all have a beautiful Christmas. So the promise is not always the practical. And when you look at this K-shaped economy and the tariffs and the big, the two big boogey men that I don't believe these guys have the balls to go after. I really don't. There are two reasons that the American dream is compromised in America. And I'm not even talking about housing. Okay? I'll keep that one to the side. I know it's very important. But there are two big weights on your back, which is interesting because you know,

that's what the word mortgage means. It means death weight, mortgage, but they're now being called affordability, which is why Trump, who campaigned on this issue, calling it gas and groceries, prices, now says he hates the word affordability and it's a made up word. Why? Because it's working against him. It's the same thing. Cost of living, affordability, prices, purchasing power. You know, it's all means the same thing.

Here's why. So now you look at affordability and you have two things that are killing us. One, health care costs. Health care drugs. Okay? That is now like the third biggest vig in our lives. That's saying that. something. People increasingly using credit cards to pay medical expenses. People increasingly not

having enough money for a medical emergency, which takes me to the second reason. But let me back up for a second because I'm not done with health care. Getting health insurance is hard enough. Getting affordable health insurance is even harder. Then dealing with the costs on top of the insurance and the cost of the insurance. The idea that it pays for everything. No, no, no. No, no. So here we are, more and more people choosing not to get insurance and rolling the dice, but not having the money for an emergency. Health care. Huge. Will they take it on? I don't know. Why? The biggest, the toughest, the meanest lobby we've got. They got the jobs. They got The money, they put it into lobbying, they put it into donations, and they put it into practice,

brother. They are tough. These are the people who got Congress to pass a law that you are not allowed to negotiate with them over prices. Think about that kind of juice. I couldn't get that with my kids, let alone with Congress, and they did it. That's who you're up against, which is why it doesn't really happen. Even their cousin, even their cousins, who are their cousins?

the banks. Banks are their cousins. Why? Because of all this securitization and refinancing that goes on around health care. They go hard and heavy on the credit card guys, right? Great idea. Lower the rates. Beautiful. More and more people are dependent on credit, which is getting more and more expensive, because people are getting more and more reliant. And Trump says the right thing. Bring it down. Good for the little man. Good for the little man. Good. I like it. Three days. Three days. not only did they back off the idea, why did they tell you they backed off the idea? Critical thinker, critical thinker.

Why? Oh, we spoke to the banks. They tell you these people. They tell you. Okay? We spoke to the banks. They got a better idea. What's their better idea?

Let us determine the rates, and we'll give you a 10% card, and we'll call it the Trump card. What a great idea. You never hear about the fucking night. idea again about lowering rates. That's how easy it is for these people to manipulate and maneuver around what this administration and Congress say they want. And they are the little cousin to the healthcare industry. Okay. What's the second reason? The second reason you've got to be worried about

the midterms when it comes to the economy is because the main reason the American dream is compromised is purchasing power as a function of the disconnect between the value of work and the price paid for it. Productivity versus pay. Greg will put up a graph. Okay. 50s, 60s, 70s even. America, very prosperous, very prosperous. Blowing up. The war war. worked out well force, martial plan, all these things, building up people so they could trade with us, killing it. Industries, we own everything. Everything's going great. So wouldn't that be the time that corporate America would be taking the most advantage, seeing how they were the ones who built the war machine and everything else, were growing, growing, thriving, thriving? No. It was pari

Pasut, Latin for they take the same path of pay and productivity. It literally goes like this. you see it on the graph. Then, well, what happens? Choice, not capitalism, because that was capitalism, right? That was capitalism, 50s, 60s, 70s, capitalism, right? Capitalism. What changed? Choice.

What was the choice? Entering into the 80s, they decided to make the stock market a casino. That's what they did. And PE ratios price to $1.000. equity, what does that mean? So the book price and the thing is what you made and what you spent. And the rest is what you got. Okay? Okay. That's what you were worth times two or three, four, you know, something like that, industry standard. And it still is largely like that, by the way, on the private side, on the private equity side. But in the stock market, 10, 20, 30, 80 times

earning, it's crazy, crazy, casino. So they realize they can make a lot of. So they realize they can make a more money off their stock price than they can just by doing whatever they do. And that was the 80s. That was the junk bonds and all the other toys that they brought into it. And it was a casino. And that's why the C-Suite pay exploded. Because to impress the investors, you needed to have people that they believed could juice your stock price and those people became a precious commodity. So you had to start trading. I got to get Greg Ott before the other guys get them. Why? Is he a better CEO? Well, they think he. is. I mean, you know, it'll just my stock price will go up four points if I get them. Four.

Greg is saying no six, but four. I got to get them. Got to pay them. Got to give them that $55 million. Got to give it to them. Where did this money come from? Where did the dividend money come from? Now, some of it came from liquidity, right? Meaning that the stock price went up so they had more money to borrow against it, right? That's why companies borrow against their own stock. They buy back their own stock, right? It's liquidity issues. Where did they get it? They got it from us.

They got it from the employees. And then what do you see? Pay, right? Pay? No, it was with productivity? Pay. All of a sudden they go like this. Pari Pasu, 50s, 60s, 70s, productivity, pay.

Why? Someone had to lose. Choice. you lose. Not the law, not capitalism. And they get more and more incentives over time. How do we know? 1950s percentage of revenue for the American government, 80% corporate and excise taxes. What's an excise tax? Tariffs. 80-something percent. What was it in 2024? 11. Oh, really? No. Is there a trick in that? Is there an asterisk? Nope. Look it up. Okay. Oh, guess where I got that number from? The Rand Corporation. The Rand industry report. The defense industry. Guys, anyway, what does that tell you? They have been rewarded for putting it in your high knee. Okay? That's the truth. And he doesn't want to mess with that. I know he said he was for you.
