week that we should be publishing out so be sure to stay tuned for that man so uh still coming off
our cs high getting prepared for uh other shows that are
going to be going on this year a lot of cool tech shows isc uh what else is there there's
going to be nab coming up south by southwest coming up uh it's going to be crazy and uh yeah
so we're just getting ready for all of the fun so be sure to watch for our coverage of that stuff
so what happened today in news what's going
on the tech world what are you seeing out there chris so i don't know if you've noticed this in
the last week i kind of noticed it last week and i was busy and i was like what the fuck is going on
uh anytime you do a google search now you'll notice there's a big difference in the google
search at least if they've served it to you, I suppose. It's kind of like Facebook.
They probably do some A-B testing of it.
But according to The Verge, Google's new look for desktop search results
blurred lines between ads and search results,
leading many critics to identify it as a very dark pattern.
I got to tell you, I started freaking out.
I was like, what the hell is going on?
Did I hit the wrong button or something?
Like trying to figure out which one's an ad and which one is the site you're looking for, it's kind of crazy.
They pile with a bunch of stuff that looks like it's your search website you're looking for or topic you're looking for.
When in reality, it's an ad and it's a paid ad but they make it they make kind of
the title kind of look like oh that must be the link i'm want to go to and it fooled me several
times this week like i would click on it and i'd be like well that title looked like it was the
ad link part i was looking for but turns out it was just an ad. Uh, so yeah, that's going on
and people are not happy about it. Uh, certainly I'm sure this helps Google somewhere ads,
push more ads, get more click rates on their ads and all that good stuff. Uh, it does say
ad on the side, but when you're moving a thousand miles an hour and you're multitasking crap, uh,
it goes right by you and And you're just like,
whoa. And there's a lot of ads. You'll see like five or six. So you almost have to page down
just to freaking see what you're actually looking for on a website. I don't know. Try
searching for the Chris Voss Show. Let's see what here the Chris Voss show see what happens so there's
one hat above me and then there's the Chris Voss show so there you go that's
cool and looks like all my other stuff but it probably knows it's me because
I'm signed into my account. Um, it is the one
interesting aspect of it though, is they've put little, uh, like what would you call these avatars
or icons? So like LinkedIn now has like a LinkedIn little square icon. Uh, my open Spotify show or my Spotify podcast is on there muckrack
which is interesting the Chris Voss show journalists that's kind of what the hell
is that ain't man when you're semi-popular you're everywhere here's an
article from 2012 from Forbes okay that's in my first page,
I don't know, this is a lot of shit that's my, uh, whatever, um, and then Chris Foss videos,
let's go to, I don't know why, but this, uh, Chris Foss show blog from 2010 is at the top of all of
my shows, I have no idea why, why it is, there's like so many other good shows that i've done the first some of the
first shows from 2010 or somehow on here maybe it's a rank thing like let's see what this is
um maybe it's because it has 11 000 views or something maybe that's it uh it's it's a top
video from 2010 it's probably me introducing the blog for the first time hey
we have a blog man uh muckrack this is kind of interesting this is some website for pr pros
and they have uh looks like they pull a list of like articles i have 1229 articles according to
them see all of them oh my gosh wow wow they really do have all whoa holy crap whoa
whoa they've literally taken my website and all my posts and put them on the thing muckrat.com
you can check it out maybe you're on it who knows anyway so getting back to where we were uh the uh
google search has changed let me know what you think of it. I'd be interested to hear from you. You can text me at Chris Voss on Twitter,
or you can, of course, find the other relevant points of the show,
Facebook, all that sort of good stuff.
But I thought it was interesting from an aspect
that it definitely was confusing the crap out of me.
And they claim it's going to be their new search results.
So really weird there I mean it does state that it's an ad but it states the website and then it kind of sells your stuff
but it's about four or five ads deep sometimes it's really thick if you just put in something
it's really addy if you will it's like in your face ad you get an ad you get an ad and you get an ad we all
get an ad and everyone gets an ad and people didn't want any of that um there's an interesting
picture does a bear shit in the woods i don't know uh so let's take a look at uh i'll just take
a look at some different things what else was in the news Google Ads moving on okay way to go Google you know eventually we're just gonna live in that
Blade Runner world where everything's a bloody ad you know down the side of
buildings and crap this was there was some interesting news the tick tock is
looking for a new CEO they're trying to find an American US CEO which is
probably smart for them because they're coming under so much congressional scrutiny for their ties to the um chinese government and they've gotten a lot of
crap from you know some of the different things they pulled like allowing a lot of kids under 13
to join the platform and stuff and uh yeah so um they're looking for new ceo and of course
you know they're hotter than ever, I've got to tell you.
The kids just like that TikTok effect. I think one of my videos has got like 45,000 views or something, I think.
One of my dog videos.
People love that stuff.
They love the TikTok.
It's the new thing.
I don't know.
I can't even stand to watch half the videos.
I guess I'm old.
What are you going to do, man? What are you going to do?
Looks like Corny and TechCrunch, a company called Match Group,
invested in the safety app Noonlight to add features like a panic button,
check-in, and photo verification to its dating apps, starting with Tinder.
So I guess Match Group is the dating app giant and parent
company for match tinder ok cupid plenty of fish and other several dating apps they're the reason
you can't get laid um or if you're on tinder you probably are um and i guess they're going to add
a panic button a check-in and photo verification to its dating apps.
That's probably a good idea.
I mean, the one thing I get tired of is seeing, and it's not only dating apps, but just anywhere,
Instagram and stuff is this thing where people blur out their skin, and they just have this fuzzy, kind of looking through fogged glass sort of skin look and you're just
like you're really hiding something and it's gotten really out of control like some women
are pretty much just making them so so blurry you're just like it's like looking in through
frosted glass uh with a thick layer of ice and whatever and you're just like i have no idea what
you look like all i can tell is there's a skull and some eyes there and maybe a
mouth and yeah you know I just I just flip right through those people I mean
if you're gonna lie that much on your tinder profile I don't be dating you and
you're probably on me dating you either because I'd be like hey you're a lying
piece of shit deceptive I don't I got enough of that in my life already.
So what else do we have up in the news?
Tech executives and employees, particularly from Facebook's employees,
technically from Facebook, have become increasingly common targets for swatting.
I guess they're swatting tech executives and employees now,
according to the New York Times.
Wow, what's prompted this
uh they're just targeting industry leaders and their families and the police are struggling to
find a solution for it um yeah i mean this has been going on there's people that have been killed
by swatting uh and uh uh it's crazy they can they bust in your house they think there's something
going on and it's just a joke.
I don't know.
Maybe they put these people in jail for a long time.
So let's see here.
What else is up in the news?
Vast Company, according to a study since the rollout of iOS 13,
which warns users of apps tracking the location,
marketers have collected 68% less background and 24% less foreground data.
So it looks like that's helping, I don't know, people that might have some privacy concerns.
It's not full privacy concerns, of course.
We talked about this on the prior show.
And if you haven't got a chance to check it out, read about it.
If you listen to the prior show, we you haven't got a chance to check it out and read about it uh if you listen
the prior show we talked about clearview ai this is a company you want to start paying attention to
on what's going on uh buzzfeed news is reporting the new york uh police department disputes facial
recognition firm uh clearview ai claimed that it identified a terrorism suspect the company's
founders of previous connections to the far right,
which is kind of disturbing.
Clearview is an AI facial recognition company
that says it's amassed a database of billions of photos,
and they sell it to police departments all over the nation.
And what they've done is they've scraped all different websites,
like Facebook, I guess, Instagram and everything else.
And basically, you know, stuff they shouldn't, which is kind of unethical when you think about it.
But they've scraped up to three billion photos off of these public websites.
And they've basically started selling them to law enforcement agencies now law enforcement agencies are saying they're you know they're able to use the data to quickly solve crimes what's cool about their
their data if you want to call it cool is you can put a face in and it can
bring you all the faces of that person that they found in their database that
they scraped off the internet and not only that
they can tell you where they got those faces so this face came from his youtube account this face
came from your facebook account this came face came from your instagram account which makes it
easier for the police departments to locate you because hey they're like you know they just do
the exif information and find where you're at but you
probably publish where you're at hey i live on uh you know downtown street main and they just go
find you it's a lot easier to do that so uh while that's working you know certainly there's a
issue of privacy trying to protect their stuff uh who watches the Watchers. So if you can't listen to my overview of it,
I pretty much spent a whole podcast on it in the prior podcast of the Clearview AI.
So you may want to start following this and seeing what they're doing.
I guess what they did is they claimed that the New York Police Department
had found a couple terrorists with it.
The New York police department is saying
that is not true so it's kind of interesting what's going on there and what they're saying
uh it's uh started by a 31 year old developer who was interested in far-right politics and um
so um it looks like he's kind of on the right side of the political things.
And so it's kind of interesting where they're building these faces and selling out the whole, you know, whatever. whatever looks like he's hanging out with Michael Chernovich Cernovich current of itch which is the right-wing crazy dude who makes up all sorts of
weird stuff if you followed his things so yeah BuzzFeed news check out the
article there I think the other one was either New York Times or Washington Post
if you go to the podcast you can check that out as well I highly recommend you
start watching it with these guys are doing think about what's going on with your
accounts you may want to start privatizing your information pictures
because it's gonna get worse more and more people are gonna start stealing
photos and putting them in databases you know we saw that recently with the face
app where everyone was volunteering their face into it and it was going to some Russian database. Oh my God.
Broadcom signs a two year new multimillion year agreement with Apple says it expects to generate 15 billion by supplying wireless chips for Apple devices
released through mid 2023.
It's according to Bloomberg.
Broadcom is putting its RF chip business up for sale last year,
and the chip maker is going to supply the components for Apple devices in 2023.
So there you go on that.
Another thing that came to light that was kind of interesting, this is from CyberScoop.
Experts say the FTI's report on the hack of Bezos' phone does not explain why FTI wasn't able to decrypt the malicious code or perform actions like jailbreaking.
Evidently, it's being reported that Jeff Bezos of Amazon, the CEO, if you're not familiar with that,
his phone was hacked by the Prince, I forget, MBS, Prince MBS from Saudi Arabia,
I guess he sent him a text file or some sort of file on his WhatsApp,
and it hacked his phone and started like it was like a 39,000% increase in data usage.
And it basically sucked off all of his stuff that he had.
And now we know that Jeff Bezos has dick pics going on circulating the world somewhere.
One of those things none of us want to see.
There's no one going, these pictures should be released for public consumption.
Anyway, pretty interesting, and I guess the UN special folks are gravely concerned about the hacking by Saudi's MBS,
and they're calling for further investigations, according to The Guardian.
So that's going to be kind of interesting.
Be careful what you open on your phone.
Be careful what files you accept.
Even on my Gmail, unless I really, really, really personally know somebody,
I refuse to open files. I get them all the time from PR agents. I don't know why. And they'll
send me these files and they're like, Hey, open this, uh, Google doc here and you'll see your
stuff. And I'm like, I'm not opening that. Just, you can just send me a text of whatever that
fucking shit is in the email. I don't. You don't need to send me a file.
I'm like, why not?
Because I don't want to get hacked.
So there you go.
Microsoft, according to ZDNet,
has started rolling out developer kits and emulators
for its dual-screen Surface Duo,
Android phone, and Windows 10X-based Surface Neo.
So developer kits and emulators for both Android and 10X developers
who want to build for the coming dual-screen devices starting with its own.
I believe AT&T is sending me the dual-screen or the flip-screen,
whatever you want to call it, the Samsung phone that folds out.
Samsung Fold, is that what it's called?
I don't know when I get it.
I'll know.
Uh,
I believe they're sending that to us this week so that we can get a chance to
review it.
So we'll be excited to do that.
Um,
Amazon claims prime video is 65,000 titles,
but 66% of those are user loaded.
What?
Including a thousand of shorts,
instructional clips and
conspiracy theory videos wait I can go to a prime video for crazy stupid videos
that used to be on YouTube that got kicked and banned I thought prime video
was just like you know like movies and stuff what do I know 65,000 titles and nothing to watch no it actually Amazon has put some
excuse me Amazon's put some really good shows together on Amazon TV fortunately
I don't get time to watch him but there's some great shows one of my
favorite shows was with trying to think of the gentleman. I always forget his name, but he's a really good actor.
Bob Thornton.
Bobby Lee Thornton.
Bob Thornton.
He had that one show on called, what was it?
I don't like Bosch.
Bosch was kind of a cool show to watch.
I always kind of felt like Bosch was just a little bit off for the show or he just
didn't get his character right. Um, but, uh, it kind of grew on me after a while. And then, uh,
what was the, uh, what was the other, there was another show I think I liked on there,
the car show with the three guys, the three British gentlemen, that was always fun to watch.
Um, but you know, I, I love all this content that's being made
and all this great stuff that's being made from all this stuff.
You don't always have to lean on Hollywood to give you stuff.
So I think it's great.
If we can get great content, stories made, well, God bless them.
Intel, according to VentureBeat,
beat their quarter for revenue of $20.2 billion,
up 8% year-over-year versus $19.2 billion estimate.
So Intel's still making money, so you can still buy their chips,
put them in your PCs, and yeah, this should keep working.
This is kind of interesting.
TikTok signs a licensing deal with music rights agency Merlin
for indie music labels and video sources
and its upcoming streaming music service, Reso.
I guess they're going to be launching a music streaming service.
So they're signing up all the rights they need to take and do.
And that'll be interesting as well.
I mean, TikTok definitely, that's where all the kids are.
There you go.
This was interesting.
VentureBeat reports that Niantic said it helped drive more than $240 million in tourism revenue for the cities in its events list in 2019 through its walking games like Pokemon Go and Ingress.
If you're familiar with Pokemon Go, wow, that was that was popular like what like five years ago or something and there so they're
helping people tourist better is that a thing so there you go
according to why some of these some of these articles that I don't know about them.
Uh, Google helps publish the largest, highest resolution map of brain neurons of a fruit
fly using machine learning technique called flood filling networks is according to wired.
If you want to check this out kind of interesting story um high resolution map of brain neurons of
a fruit fly because i know you and i were spending our nights just thinking to ourselves damn it jim
damn it jim if we could only know what the brain neurons of a fruit fly look like
our lives could be much improved damn it jim i'm a doctor
not google did i do the gym part right i don't know scotty no that's a be me up that's the uh
i'm giving all she got cotton that's my best scottish it was Dr. Spock there's Spock and there's who's the
doctor I don't know I don't watch Star Trek clearly in a long time and I'm not a fan I mean
it's a nice show I grew up watching Star Trek as a kid when it was hot you know, it's like whatever, man.
It's a show.
So interesting stuff going on in the world of news today.
Some of the stuff that I covered that I thought was interesting.
I didn't find a lot of stuff that really stuck out at me today. Clearly none of it I'm really passionate about except for the story about this Clearview AI.
It's really interesting what's going on with this.
It's going to be interesting how this affects us in the future and everything else.
And I think we should all be concerned about what's going on with privacy.
Certainly, I think with facial recognition and AI, we need some regulation, man, because
just trusting everybody to do the right thing doesn't look like it's working out it's always it always has to go really bad before somebody's like hey this is really bad we should
pass laws on this crap it's like let's let's not wait till we get that far down the road okay let's
not wait till we get down that road and like you know 50 people end up murdered because somebody
you know didn't whatever right you know let's get some up murdered because somebody, you know, didn't whatever, right?
You know, let's get some regulation on this thing.
Let's get some laws on the books here and all that stuff.
And let's get the world under control, if you will.
So there's that.
Anyway, guys.
So that's my story of sticking to it.
Be sure to check out all the Chris Foss show coverage of CES.
Oh, my God.
There was just so much content there.
So many interesting things that we covered at CES.
And you really don't want to miss it.
We cover a lot of really cool companies.
And they did a pretty good job of doing all their stuff at CES.
What a show, man.
That was just crazy all the stuff that I. What a show, man. That was just crazy
all the stuff that I had to do.
It took me a while to recover
after that show, man. I was beat
up. I was beat up. I drove
home with a
locked up neck and a locked up shoulder.
I got to remember to take a massage when I'm halfway through
those shows because they just
beat the crap out of you.
They just beat you.
Hey guys guys thanks for
tuning in we certainly appreciate you coming on the show and listening to our news and stuff
