Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi folks, this is Fonz here from thechrisfonzshow.com, the Chris Fonz Show. Hey, we just got back from Cedia Show in Denver. Hopefully you got a chance to catch those. We had a lot of episodes of really great booth interviews, really interesting technology. So if you haven't got a chance, go back and see those in the stream. You'll find them. There's a lot of cool data and a lot of cool stuff. There are a lot of really interesting companies we took and interviewed.
Starting point is 00:00:24 So today, let's see your daily tech news. There's a lot of cool data and a lot of cool stuff. There are a lot of really interesting companies we took and interviewed. So today, let's see your daily tech news. It's Thursday, September 19, 2019. And let's get into some product hunt to start off the top of the show. Producthunt.com. Some interesting things that stuck out with us in product hunt. In fact, probably the most things I've ever seen that was kind of interesting for us. So let's get into what we thought about it. There's a thing on Product Hunt called Startup First Users, and this thing is the number
Starting point is 00:00:51 one product of the day. It's been upvoted about 430 times. You can go in and look how early user growth happened on several large sites, how they did it. They bootstrapped it to get their first users, etc., etc. Really interesting on how this works. You can go ahead and check it out. You can go to their website at earlyusergrowth.com, or you can go to Product Hunt and look for it on Product Hunt as well. I thought it was pretty interesting to see how the companies got their growth,
Starting point is 00:01:20 kind of insightful, etc., etc. Twitter launched it, I think it was South by Southwest years ago, and that was the thing that really took them over the top. So they had that going for them as well. Another item on Product Hunt that stuck out at me, this is called Snap Call. You can install intuitive call buttons on any web page in three minutes, they claim. You go to snapcall.io, and it makes it super easy to receive calls from web visitors to your webpage or app. Using a phone system, you can receive calls anywhere in the world. InSign reports about all your calls. Choose your pages to display the call
Starting point is 00:01:56 button. Call me old world, but I still like phone calls every now and then, especially when it's a client that I can have a conversation with. I have a better chance of converting them if I take and do that as well. So this has been doing really well on product time. Snap Call has been doing really well on product time. It's been upvoted 262 times. And, yeah, it seems pretty interesting. I think I'm going to toy with it to see about putting it on my sites. Another one that's up, this is called Podcast 9.
Starting point is 00:02:28 It's a powerful podcast app with audio snippets and transcripts as well. So kind of interesting that way. You can go to podcast9.com and see some data about it. It's pretty interesting. It evidently gives you transcripts where you can preview the episode and read the transcripts while listening to it. So you can track the details, et cetera, et cetera. It doesn't require anything other than just, you know, you have the app, read it, blah, blah, blah. You can bookmark snippets of the show, share snippets of the show, download.
Starting point is 00:03:04 Right now it's free for a limitedets of the show, download for free. Right now it's free for a limited time on iOS only, I should mention. And I guess they're going to charge $2.99 to download the app after a certain amount of time. You can make playlists with your podcast you like to listen to. Hopefully the Chris Voss show is on there. And you can share them. So how about them apples? That's pretty darn pretty darn cool right so you can check that out you go to podcast9.com lots of interesting stuff today on the um on the bloody uh podcast or uh podcast producthunt.com
Starting point is 00:03:39 i'm still in denver evidently after a week. On top of that, we have the Cheddar Chrome extension. Now, Cheddar's gotten really big in news outlets, all that sort of good stuff. Their news review site where journalists in the public review articles, creating credibility ratings for articles, authors, and outlets. Now there's a Chrome browser extension. News consumers can take Credder's review process and readings on the go. Credder. There's Credder, Cheddar.
Starting point is 00:04:10 Did I say Cheddar earlier? I said that wrong. Okay. Never mind. Scratch that. Just ignore everything I said about Cheddar. There's a Cheddar news source. This is Credder.
Starting point is 00:04:20 Wow, that's confusing. The logo even is a piece of cheese, so I was thinking Cheddar. All right. Well, I went to public school, so I got to learn to read. Way to go, Chris. I'm clearly still on vacation. You can go to the Chrome store and look for Credder Chrome extension. It even looks like a piece of cheese like the Cheddar news service. But this is different.
Starting point is 00:04:46 They're a news review site where journalists in the public review articles create credibility ratings. Maybe this is a good thing. I don't know. I haven't really checked into it much. I just installed it, though, on my system, and I kind of like it. It gives me some of the top different, I guess, curated is what you would call it, news in world, U.S. politics, business, tech, media, science, and culture.
Starting point is 00:05:11 And it shows how much, I guess, the journalists that are in this site have validated it. I'm not sure how they validate journalists. I actually put down that I was a journalist when I joined it, and no one asked for proof that I was. So I wonder how bad it would be if a bunch of Russians could sneak in and do this. So I don't know. I'll have to dig around. I'll play with it some more, find out some more.
Starting point is 00:05:33 You can find out some more. And if you have any comments on it, go to the Twitter at Chris Voss on Twitter or Chris Voss Facebook or Chris Voss LinkedIn. Let me know what you think. Yeah. All right. So let's move on to other news, the big news. You can go to Product Hunt to see all those things.
Starting point is 00:05:53 Really cool and interesting offering this week. There's an honorable mention I'll give to somebody. It's a thing called the SPAN that's also up today. It's alleged to be a new way of managing energy from a former Tesla employee. I guess that's the new thing now. I used to be a former Google employee. Now you're like, I'm a former Tesla employee. So therefore, I have a small portion of Elon Musk's brain.
Starting point is 00:06:19 Wow. All right. I don't know. I'm not judging. I'm just, you know, ripping on it. Rapping on it. Ripping a rap on it. Doing the rip rap.
Starting point is 00:06:32 Tune in next time for the new show from the Chris Voss Podcast Network. The Rip Rap Podcast. Rip rap. What? Rap. Rip. No. What?
Starting point is 00:06:42 I don't know. Rip. Rest in peace, as gamers would say, the rip network. We actually considered naming the Chris Voss Gaming Podcast, Rip Podcast, Rest in Peace, because that's what gamers love to say. Rest in peace. All right, so you can go to span.io and
Starting point is 00:07:06 check this out the span combines intelligent hard work intuitive app to let you take control of your priorities something about home energies and uh like renewable energy maybe some solar shit you're gonna have to read more about it uh i think it gets an honorable mention doesn't seem like it's really popular on the uh product hunt but uh you know i don't know maybe you'll like it maybe you won't let me know what you think uh today in other news the ios 13 has been launched out the ipad os as well um and uh you know, uh, talking about it. There's dark mode. The new photo apps are great. Uh, it's different reviews from the verge. Um, let's see.
Starting point is 00:07:51 Mac stories has got some, uh, reviews that you can take and read as well. Um, let's see. The verge seems to like it. Uh, so does the verge also likes dark mode. I like dark mode on my stuff why did it take too long this time to get dark mode on everything i guess people are just really tired of having blue light blindness and stuff and so it's time to make you know we got to make your eyes we got to make it easier on your eyes to spend all of your life looking at your fucking phone welcome to the world uh what else do we have um in the uh interesting area of
Starting point is 00:08:30 news and everything uh hawaii i'm never sure if i pronounced that correct hawaii phone you know the china place keeps getting banned and into stuff with the trump administration um and actually they've been getting in trouble for a while with the governments because they're owned by, I believe, a Chinese general, and there's concern there that there's a lot of spyware in this stuff. But according to 9to5Google, they have unveiled their first flagship without the Google-licensed apps, if you've been following the story. They basically got kicked off of using the google
Starting point is 00:09:06 android app uh google android os at least the newer versions they're allowed to keep the older versions but they can't update them um of their phones and so now they're trying to make their own os and they've released a phone uh it's kind of interesting i don't know why it sounds really awful uh eight gigabytes of ram 4500 milliamp hour battery uh it does have fast 27 watt wireless charging that seems pretty cool 4500 milliamp hour battery is pretty good but seriously only eight gigabytes of ram um i guess whatever man uh who else is on on the thing? Airbnb generated revenue of more than $1 billion in quarter two and tends to go public in 2020. Wow, man.
Starting point is 00:09:55 How much money do you make just making cut of the action of a commission? And I suppose you're arranging the sale, but you're getting commission off it, and you don't own any fucking hotels. I believe Airbnb does own some properties for shits and giggles, but for the most part, it's like me making a shit ton of money to sell you a Hilton or a Motel 6 room, and you're like, do you own that, Chris? I'm like, no, I'm just selling it to you.
Starting point is 00:10:25 Well, there you go, good for you uh so well yeah airbnb who knew they're starting to break down wired starting to break down some of the six core processor uh in the apple iphone and it's supposed to be 30% more efficient. It's 30% more. How fast? Is it faster or is it just more efficient? Like, I don't know. It's kind of like sex. Do you want sex faster and harder or do you just want it more efficient?
Starting point is 00:10:59 Like, that kind of makes you go, what's this efficiency thing about? I'm just saying. That's all i'm saying i don't know um roku unveils a smaller 2999 express a faster 99.99 ultra with customized remote roku os 9.2 new content discovery tools voice capabilities i'm likely to buy one for 2999 i like that i don't need to buy another unit I'm so sick of having you I think I still have a gen 1 or gen 2 Apple TV thing I really should throw in the ground garbage but you know it still works that's the funny thing and it works fine like you know I'm not doing
Starting point is 00:11:38 4k on it but I don't have a 4k TV cuz I don't know I got a life I don't have a 4K TV because, I don't know, I got a life. I don't know, 4K TV. I shouldn't really be judgy, should I? Don't judge people, Chris, that have 4K TV. They're people too. Yeah, I'm not judging you, man. I'm just saying. For me personally, speaking for me, what's good for you is not good for other people sometimes.
Starting point is 00:12:06 But yeah, I don't need any more uh i got chromecast and i got all this crap coming on my butthole with youtube and stuff i don't need any more streaming services of well it's not even a streaming service it's a streaming hardware. Streaming services. Yeah, whatever, man. YouTube, according to TechCrunch, is going to tighten its creator verification in October, focusing on channels with a need for proof of authenticity and clarifying verification isn't an endorsement. Yeah, what could go wrong with that?
Starting point is 00:12:44 A bunch of shitheads at fucking youtube that keep fucking ruining the service they're going to create a verification service that for someone like me who's been around for like i don't know 20 years since the beginning of fucking youtube has like i think it's like 55 million minutes viewed on youtube uh i'm probably gonna get fucked over i'm gonna get some stupid things oh we should verify that you are who you are cuz we're not really sure you know you've been on the system for 20 years yeah I'm just waiting for that to go wrong oh my god you know shit's gonna go bad with that some big creator like do you pipe I of course he's you know I'm sure he's on a special list but you know
Starting point is 00:13:21 I do pipe by his channel go down we can't verify who you are is your name really do pie pie because that seems suspicious like who the fuck would name themselves that for reals um i don't know man have fun with that i you know maybe it's good um i i think that don't go after channels that have been established for a long time because I think most of them have probably been vetted by the nature of them being around for a while. I mean, obviously they should be cruising the content, seeing what's out there. Clearly, I mean, if you've had an ISIS account for the last eight years and you're posting ISIS videos or some shit, we should probably shut that down.
Starting point is 00:14:01 But, you know, make sure you're going after the new people you know when china decides to create 500 youtube channels which is something like they did to take and uh to take and fight the pr of of uh hong kong uh the hong kong rebellion um yeah we need to do that like anybody new to the system you probably should check those guys out. Give them a hassle. Give them a thorough colonoscopy. Check out what's going on in their thing. Get verification. Prove who they are.
Starting point is 00:14:36 But, you know, if you've been around for as long as I have and been taking as many checks from them as I have, I probably don't need to be verified. I would like to be verified. Maybe that would be nice. I don't know. Verification never seems need to be verified. I would like to be verified. Maybe that would be nice. I don't know. Verification never seems to be. What you think it's going to be.
Starting point is 00:14:49 I have a friend who's got like. I don't know. 1,000 followers on Twitter. And somehow he got verified. Yet Twitter refuses to verify me. With 100,000 plus. And now they don't verify anybody. So it's just stupid.
Starting point is 00:15:09 It's just. I just can't believe how these people have this much fucking money, and they still can't get the fucking clown car to keep from crashing into success, it's just always a shit show, anyway guys, that's the news for me today on, uh, September 19th,th. Something positive for you. I don't know. The world's getting crazy. Hug the ones you love. Tell them you love them. Spend time with them.
Starting point is 00:15:33 Don't leave in anger because you never know. You may never see them again. And when things go bad, they go bad. So love as many people as you can for who they are and what they are. And be good to your fellow human beings because someday they may need to take care of you. I don't know. That's my just train of thought off the top of my head there. Feeding it to you.
Starting point is 00:15:57 It doesn't have a deeper meaning at all. Now everyone's going to be like, he means there's a deeper meaning. I'm not like Trump. I'm not like trump i'm not projecting what i'm doing and giving you stuff i just thought i'd throw something positive at the end i'm like you know i should really wrap the show with like some sort of positive quote or some sort of positive thing but now it's just turned dark it's like gone right off the cliff like thelma and louise it's just gone. It started out like a really cool thing, like let's hold hands, go over the cliff together, and now we're like in the valley of descent going, fuck, where does this end? You know how it ends? I love you guys. Thanks for tuning into the
Starting point is 00:16:35 podcast and being loyal subscribers and listeners. God bless you all or whatever you believe in, bless you all. Holy crap. I can't believe I just said that. I'm an atheist. So bless you all. Be well. And we'll see you tomorrow on the Chris Voss Show podcast. Make sure you tune in. You never know what you're going to miss until you miss it. Maybe that should be the motto of the Chris Voss Show.
Starting point is 00:16:59 Shut up, Chris. Just end the show already. Thanks. See you next time.
