Hi folks, Chris Foss here from thechrisfossshow.com.
Hey, coming here with another great podcast.
We certainly appreciate you tuning in.
Be sure to watch for our Cedia show coverage in Cedia 2019 in Denver, Colorado, in Mile High City.
It's going to be kind of interesting, fun to be up there.
I haven't seen Denver for a long, long time.
And yeah, it's a wonderful place. The home
of the Broncos. What else is up there? Oh yeah. Recreational pot and psychedelics. Wow. Okay.
It's going to be an interesting time when they say mile high city, they mean it literally,
I guess. Hi. Hi. Anyway, we're going to see you in Denver for a whole different reason.
We're going to profile some of the coolest and advanced tech companies out there,
the people who are bringing innovation and tech to the world.
You probably just recently heard our recent 2N interview, the company 2N.
One of their leads over there came on the podcast last show and talked a lot about the innovative technology.
It's really amazing to me how much stuff is being disrupted, so be sure to check out their booth.
I believe it's 4403 at Cedia.
We'll be profiling a bunch of different things, doing a bunch of booth interviews.
You're going to hear about the latest and coolest stuff during Cedia,
so make sure you keep your ear pressed to your iPhone or your Google, Samsung, Galaxy Note, whatever, and all that good stuff.
So today, we have just nothing but Apple talk, because it was the famous yearly Apple show
in September that Apple puts on where they announce all their iPhone-y gadgets, their
iGadgets, if you will.
And so let's get into it.
I'm sure you've either, if you haven't heard about it, you want to hear about it, so there you go.
Should I buy the new phone, Chris?
Keep in mind, we always appreciate that AT&T supports the Chris Voss show
in a way that they send us review units, and we get to check them out.
We also use them on the road to use our networks, and we love them.
We've been using them now for 10 years, and they're great.
So if you want to get your new iPhone, be sure to check in with AT&T.com
and pick one up over there.
Apple has revealed the new iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max.
Wow.
Three cameras, better OLED screens,
and more power than some of their earlier versions.
Of course, you kind of would expect that, wouldn wouldn't you so they've unveiled the iPhone 11 Pro
the iPhone 11 Pro max and basically these are two phones that you can take
and get one is of course the cheaper alternative and of course here's the one
that's got the jacked up you know all the good stuff on it that's the one you
want to pay more for and, you know, sell it.
Your kid's, whatchamacallit, your kid's college fund, you know.
I mean, who needs college, really, when you can get an iPhone?
You can learn everything you need from college from an iPhone.
You probably can, actually.
It comes down to it.
Looks like it's got three different cameras on the back.
One is a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera.
One is a 12-ixel ultra wide camera one is a 12 megapixel wide camera and one is a telephoto 12 megapixel camera so uh that'll be
kind of interesting i know there's a lot of companies that make a lot of money selling
um these sort of additional uh different variations of cameras uh lenses uh so you know I'm not sure whether it puts them in that boat.
Of course, a lot of the ones that I've known and reviewed,
they really do high-end lenses that are of a quality that are much better
and bigger, of course, than you can fit into a small iPhone case.
So, you know, I think they'll still be out there.
But, wow, it's kind of interesting you have three whole lenses to work from, which is a lot of work if you got to clean
them all.
One of the things I always have to do with my iPhone or my Samsung Galaxy Note, uh, nine
from AT&T, uh, is I always have to wipe and clean the back, um, the back, uh, uh, camera
eyes because, you know, your finger's always back there, especially the fingerprint being
back there.
You're always getting a fingerprint, uh, you're, you're, especially with the fingerprint being back there.
You're always getting slimy fingerprint stuff on there, especially if you're eating a burger.
That's never good.
So this is going to be kind of interesting.
They're doing this thing with the cameras and adding a bunch of a few other stuff. So you can check with the iPhone thing.
The iPhone 11 Pro will start at $999 in the U.S.,
and the 11 Pro Max will go for $1,099.
You can start pre-ordering it on September 13th, this Friday, at 5 p.m. Pacific,
and the phones will ship on September 20th.
We'll look forward to checking that out as well.
Wow, you got a, you know, there we are. ship on September 20th. We'll look forward to checking that out as well. Uh, wow. You got,
uh, you know, there we are. We're up to the post. We're up to the post 1000 mark, uh, and heading upward. I mean, the new Samsung galaxy fold has come back out again. The one they tried to launch
and had some issues with the screen, uh, that thing's like 2000 bucks. So there's that. Um,
so anyway, uh, it'll be kind of interesting
to see how the whole thing plays out looks like it's got about 458 pixels per
inch on the screen that's fairly good I'm not even sure what the new notes
have I know it's been a while since I've reviewed one so I have to look at it but
you can take a look at it you know your eye can't see above a certain level
anyway but I know it's the difference when it comes to watching videos. So you can check that out as well on their site.
They are cutting the Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone XR prices by 150 bucks. And oh no, they're killing
the iPhone 7 and the iPhone XS. So if you have those phones, I guess you're not going to have any more support for
them. Ooh, that's not nice. That's not nice. God, I love that planned obsolescence by Apple.
They never seemed, they never felt that. Yeah, you know that phone you bought from us that you
spent like oodles of money on? Yeah, that's no good anymore. Anyway, so you're just gonna have to you know sell a kidney uh sell a kid maybe you know
liver whatever well you can't sell liver you only got one of those uh do a longer or a kidney you
got two of them most people can live without them and uh you can buy a phone there you go
uh but then you know the next year you're gonna probably sell that other one so uh they also
announced the ipad os is coming out September 30th.
That's going to have some new different stuff to it.
The iPhone or the iPad, whatever, they've added some new tweaks to it.
I just really can't get into any iPhone updates.
It's like, okay, you made it faster, better, cleaner, whatever.
Maybe add some new features.
Okay, so anyway um and i think there's a new one coming out that they've announced too as well so you you can look that up on apple i
don't care uh this is kind of interesting uh apple is becoming more of a services business
as opposed to hardware business apple tv plus is going to cost4.99 per month and launches on November 1st.
So you can take advantage of that as well.
And it comes with a free seven-day trial when it launches.
So you can check that out.
You can see some of the, I believe, the shows that they've curated.
There's some headliners with Oprah Winfrey's show, Toxic Labor, and Morning Show, which is going to star Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon,
and Steve Carell, a reboot of Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories, a sci-fi show adaptation
of Isaac Newton.
There's a whole mess of stuff that they got Emily Dickinson going on.
I suppose you can check that out.
Is Apple going to become the new Netflix of whatever? You know, curating, making their own
shows like Amazon does and Netflix do? Maybe so. Who knows? Apple Arcade is launching on September
19th for $4.99 a month. A lot of $4.99 a month here, if you notice. And you'll be able to, I guess,
play a lot of different games on it or arcade or something.
It's going to launch in 150 countries on September 19th with the Apple's family sharing feature.
And let's see.
Oh, it's going to have Frogger.
Well, shut up and take my money.
Wow, Frogger?
Whoa.
I used to play that with quarters in the arcade places.
Yeah, seriously. Quarters. Not kidding you. That's how old I am. to play that with quarters in the arcade places yeah seriously quarters not
kidding you that's how old I am so I guess whatever oh oh they have Pac-man
party Royale do I recognize any of these names not really no I don't. So I also used to play Pac-Man and Mrs. Pac-Man in the quarter arcades. Um, you had to
drop down a whole quarter, which you probably spent mowing half a lawn for back in my day.
So, uh, you know, Hey, Hey, more stuff that you can pay Apple for. That's really what this is all about. Apple will release iOS 13 and WatchOS 6 on September 19th.
macOS Catalina in October as well.
They're doing some updates to the Apple Watch.
The Apple Watch Series 5 has an always-on display and comes in titanium or ceramic finishes.
It's going to run $399 and arrives September 20th.
It's kind of interesting they're doing always on display uh i guess they've really perfected the batteries to just really uh deal
with that you know i i i the the promise of wearables um just really failed for me and a lot
of people i mean it just wearables have been a largely a huge fail i think the only one who's
still doing well with them is fitbit and um of course they kind of leave the market and then apple and of course apple has
a captured sort of uh what do you call it culture atmosphere environment uh you know they have a
captured audience basically um so you can check that out as well this is kind of interesting though that that comes out um it says here that
the apple 11 pro will come with usb c wow finally time finally time to quit using that stupid
lightning cable and that stupid lightning plug how freaking annoying usb is just so c is just
so wonderfully fast so in use everywhere I go now.
I mean, there's just no reason to use it.
It should be USB-C and Thunderbolt, and that's about it.
You should really just use those.
So that's your update for the iPhone announcements.
I mean, I've got to be honest with you. To me, the cutting edge is still the Samsung Galaxy.
I love them.
Right now I'm looking at the note 9 and
I'm just waiting for 18 T says to note 10 whether full review on they still
make cutting-edge technology as far as I'm concerned and Apple just chases it
when it's expedient for their profitability which is two three years
after Samsung comes out with anything but you know people like the whole
ecosystem of like well i have a mac and i have a you know i have a watch and i have the thing and
it's you know i'd have to throw it all away and go to samsung well not really some of that stuff
you just don't need uh i'd love samsung but i don't have a samsung computer i have a pc just
a general pc that i built which is really cheap when it comes down to it and i don't use
wearables um you know the biggest downside for me about most wearables and i'm not just cracking on
apple here is nine times out of ten you got to recharge them like every night uh and there are
a lot that say you can't like any fitbit's got one that lasts like up to three days but
for someone who's really active on social media and has like five
pounds of notifications coming at me every day um i'm gonna burn through stuff really quick
and uh and the thing you hate is you you maniacally charge it every night because you know that you
don't want to get halfway through the day and that damn thing's gonna run out of charge so there's
that man and there's just not a lot of features it's a lot of the features on
these watches are just like mmm here's like some dumbed-down versions of your
app and half the time it's just gonna send you notification device to go look
at your phone and I'm just like why don't I just look at my phone why do I
need you yeah it's kind of like my uh it's kind of my last two girlfriends i don't
know that's a that's just a joke people i'm just being funny anyway guys uh so this is kind of
funny and i don't know why in hell nokia would make this announcement on the day of the apple
launch like why would you do this, who was thinking of this shit?
Nokia has launched the rumor they were going to do with the classic flip phone with 4G.
They've launched the Nokia 2720 Flip.
And I got to tell you, it's really good looking.
They put in a really good design to it.
If you have nostalgia feelings for the old flip phone,
Nokia's and stuff,
um,
you know,
this might be for you.
Uh,
it only does have four G on it,
but you know,
I mean,
really there's no real five G.
So there's that,
but,
uh,
you know,
Hey,
uh,
classic flip phone.
Maybe some of you missed it.
Maybe this is a way to get your grandma or grandpa's that still have those
old flip phones to finally, finally step up and update.
Kind of interesting to see Nokia get back in the game.
I kind of missed their phones.
They did make some really interesting phone offerings.
If you look at them, they're on ProductHunt.com of the day.
They're the number three product of the day with an upvote of 216.
You can go to Nokia.com to check those out as well.
But yeah, the flip phone.
The flip phone is back.
I used to have one.
I can't remember who the maker was.
I had a lot of phones in my day.
And I loved them.
I love all this stuff.
I'd stay up all night programming them, tweaking them, playing with the apps.
I'd be like, oh like oh look new technology uh looking back on some of the things they used to do i just
kind of go wow okay all right man so it's kind of interesting what nokia is doing they're they're
using their retro design i guess for people that i don't know maybe you have a minimalist thing but
it looks like they're fully featured you know they've got snake on them so you know i mean half the reason that's half the reason to buy an old flip phone retro phone is
just so you can play retro snake what a game that was i remember playing that in in uh technically
it was black and white because there was a non-color screen it was like monochrome
monochrome snake i like it you can play minesweeper too
evidently so there's that and tetris who could live without tetris that's a game i haven't played
in five million years anyway uh nokia i don't know nice offering i don't know why you'd launch
this thing on the day of apple stuff wow. You really expect to get traction on today?
Oh, man.
You couldn't wait like a month or something?
Or you couldn't watch this thing a month ago?
So people would have been like,
oh, yeah, there's nothing else to hear today.
Like on a dead news day?
So anyway, good for you.
