Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi folks, this is Voss here from thechrisvossshow.com. Thanks for tuning in. We certainly appreciate you guys today. Don't have any interviews today of any CEOs or business people, but be sure to watch for those coming up. We've got a few, I think, next week and the week thereafter. Folks that are coming on the show to talk to you about how they run their businesses, how they succeed, what got them to where the path, the journey they took through life and
Starting point is 00:00:24 got them to where they are, and lots they took through life and got them to where they are and lots of stuff you can learn from them. If you'd like to be on the show, please contact us or if you want to buy ads on the show, contact us as well. You can go to superae1 at gmail.com or you can email chrisvoss at thechrisvossshow.com. So let's talk about some of the daily news. We're doing a daily news feature now from here on out. So every day I'll have news for you, my take on the news, et cetera, et cetera. So not only are you going to get the news, you're going to get what I think
Starting point is 00:00:56 about it. So right now the news sucks. No, I'm just kidding. That's the political news. So avoid that if you can. We're just going to technical news and kind of um news in that sort of venue so let's talk about what's happening at the uh morning of august 2nd on 2019 lots of really cool stuff uh apple is suspending its siri response grading the program which human humans review recordings of of Siri queries for quality control in response to privacy concerns. This is from TechCrunch, and it's being reported across actually a lot of different news features. But, you know, evidently people are a little concerned about, you know, people listening in to your Siri response. Hi, Siri, what's the response to how
Starting point is 00:01:45 to hide my mistress from my wife I could go bad I suppose if somebody does a quality control on it I should alert their wife hey Google hey Google knock it off man hey hey hey quit being smarty with me stop it oh my gosh this is the problem you see what I read you see what I have I don't need to be married I've already got a a someone already telling me what to do all day so anyway Apple is suspending this I think this is great. I was talking about recently about how with my Google Glasses back in the day, people get really upset and come up to me freaking out.
Starting point is 00:02:35 I'd just be sitting in a restaurant with them on. Sometimes the battery would be dead because the battery didn't last all that long. It was really small. And people would come up and be like, are you recording me? And I'm like who who are you and why do you think you're important enough for anyone to record for that matter and they're like well that thing can google can turn that on and start recording any time they want you don't have any control over it and i'm like dude if this thing does video you're lucky if you can get 10 to 15 minutes of video and that battery will die. They're like, no, it can still be on. So it's interesting to me how the world's changed where people are comfortable now with,
Starting point is 00:03:10 yeah, if Alexa wants to listen to me have sex and whatever, knock yourself out. But, you know, there's people that are listening to those. So I guess now they're concerned about privacy. I mean, seriously, are you really concerned about your Apple Siri searches when right now technically Alexa and Google Home are listening to every good, bad, and fornication thing you do in your own private home? And I think on both those consoles there are still, not consoles, but platforms or whatever you want to call them,
Starting point is 00:03:41 they're still being reviewed by human people. So have fun with that. You didn't know you were an call them, they're still being reviewed by human people. So have fun with that. You didn't know you were an exhibitionist, did you? You are now. So welcome to the exhibitionist crowd. I'll be seeing you having sex in churches and parks after this, I guess, technically. All righty then. Google, according to Verge, will let Android users in Europe choose their default search engine in 2020.
Starting point is 00:04:09 And inclusion on the choice screen will be determined by auction. I'm sure I know who's going to buy out that auction. Only the top three bidders will appear alongside Google on the choice screen. Wow. Is that really anti-competitive all right so google's really too powerful and what we want to do is make it so everyone can compete but we're only gonna let the top biggest three compete what that's not competition what the fuck you know maybe i want to buy a search engine and be on the fucking list let me be on the list a little taste of my tasty beverage here uh by the way plug out to uh since i'm doing a
Starting point is 00:04:53 tasty beverage coffee here sip on air if you will very unprofessionally uh shout out to body brew uh cold brew coffee makers be sure to check those guys out body brew uh cold brew coffee makers, be sure to check those guys out. Body brew, uh, cold brew coffee makers. I love them. You probably haven't seen me talk about on the show. Um, and, uh, and then I used, um, death wish coffee, which has like, I don't know, umpteen amounts of caffeine in it. And it's super nice. I have a lot of caffeine. It's super rich. And when I use my body brew, I can get like two or three different cycles out of the same bag of beans, which is great. If you make their coffee right, it comes out like an oil concentrate. Yeah, I actually water it down, so check that out. DoorDash.
Starting point is 00:05:42 DoorDash, you're probably in here. We're in the food wars the food delivery wars now there's uber and there's door dash and you know all these people that are fighting over all this stuff door dash according to tech crunch has agreed to acquire caviar squares food delivery business for four hundred ten million dollars in cash yeah you don't want to take a check for something like that. And preferred DoorDash stock. So it looks like Square is getting out of the business, and DoorDash is going to take over their business,
Starting point is 00:06:12 which should help in their thing there. And Square, of course, is going to have, it looks like, some preferred DoorDash stock. So maybe Square is going to be a good thing to have. It seems like What what's his face he runs twitter has done a good job with square fairly good job with square i should say um but uh still fails at twitter um in my opinion according to vice the ftc has asked that 147 million people affected by the equifax breach take free credit monitoring as
Starting point is 00:06:47 only $31 million of the $575 million Equifax settlement that's allocated to consumers. I think it's kind of weird. The FTC freaked out because there's overwhelming public interest in getting, I think it was like 125 bucks back or something. Even was thinking i was like fuck it i'll take the 125 bucks um i really i really want to see criminal prosecution for this bullshit i'm so tired of changing my passwords i am so tired of some idiot like oh we put it it was in an openly text file on our servers like you know what if you could go to jail for four freaking years for this you think you'd be dumb enough to leave it on an on an open text server blah blah blah nah man if we made this shit like you can go to fucking jail like we can round up your tech crew
Starting point is 00:07:38 and send you guys to fucking jail that's what i want i'm fucking sick of this. I don't even think there's anybody on the planet who doesn't have my social security and privacy information at this point. Seriously. I just have all my accounts that matter, you know, double and triple sealed up with a two factor identification. And I have to submit a blood sample and a stool sample to get into my accounts, which is a huge pain in the fucking ass, but it's because of these shithead companies that do this, like Walmart and other people. It's just insane.
Starting point is 00:08:12 And it goes on forever. Like, I'll still get notifications, oh, someone took the Walmart hack from like 10 years ago and reposted it again. That's fucking great. And then what they do is they go hammer your accounts with the password that, if you're smart like me, you've changed. But they go hammer anyway.
Starting point is 00:08:30 And you get all these messages that are like, you've got a lot of failed logins. Do you need help with your account? Oh, here's a password reset. You're like, no, I didn't order a password reset. Someone's trying to fucking hack my account. You fuck. I get so sick of this shit. I really want to see people go to jail.
Starting point is 00:08:47 I want to see massive fines, and I want to be paid fucking cash. You owe me. You sold my data. You mishandled it. Fuck you. Pay me cash. And I'm not talking $125. These motherfuckers should be paying $500 a ahead to each of us for the damage they've
Starting point is 00:09:05 done. They're the, they're Equifax. They're supposed to run our credit and protect our credit. Oh my God. You know, if you miss a payment, they're going to ruin your whole fucking life on their reports, but God forbid they throw away your data and put on the dark web. Well, oopsie. We just want to give you some free, uh uh some of our free stuff that we do already because the service i think they're selling for the free credit monitoring is what equifax already does so it's not really that much cash out of their pocket it's just more information and people have to put on the phone most people forget about the shit anyway and probably after the end of i think it's two or three years they give it to you um
Starting point is 00:09:45 they're gonna you know hit your credit card for the full pop you know after you've forgotten about this two or three years from now so fuck them um we need more outcry about this people need to get in the streets about this stuff i'm so tired of these companies just the aquafax thing was so stupid if you read how they got access to the data. It was so freaking dumb. Next up. Moving on. On the Verge, the Google is going to be adding automated text-to-speech feature for emergency calls via the Pixel phone app to help relay location information to first responders.
Starting point is 00:10:21 I've been really interested in that new Pixel phone. In fact, I was kind of looking at buying the pixel three. It turns out I saw some leaking of the details on the pixel four and I'm like, I'm not going to go in and pay full price for that. I'm going to wait for the four. So, uh, this is pretty interesting. I, I'm not sure why this isn't a thing before I understand privacy concerns, but seriously, if you're pulling, I've fallen and can't get up the first responders or 911, when you call should be at least alerted to what your address is or your geo location. If you're like, say a hiking or, um, you know, you're in a car accident on some off-road or something, I really would feel comfortable with that. I'm willing to trade a
Starting point is 00:11:00 little bit of privacy for that sort of feature because, um, um, you know, on my house, I have a lot of IOT things. I have like the August lock and different things. If I'm, if I'm, if I've fallen or if I'm some way mentally, um, uh, cognizant to where I can unlock the door, uh, for August, I know, um, I can't, I can't use the, um, the different autom August. I know I can't use the different automators. I won't say their names right now because I'll trigger them, but you know who I'm talking about, the Amazon and the Google automators. I can do that with, I think it's Unitech who makes a lock. I can do that with that to give them a special passcode to fulfill it. A lot of these
Starting point is 00:11:46 lock services don't, in IoT, don't make it so you can lock the door just by saying unlock my door, mainly because if you just make some, you know, off-flip comment, your door unlocks, and then there goes your security. So the one company I know, I think it's Unitec. Um, uh, you, you can find them in the door locks thing. Uh, but they recently sent us one and you can open it with the automated services of the home services, but, uh, you have to give it a passcode. So that kind of gives you an extra layer if you will. But August, uh, that I love using, it's my favorite.
Starting point is 00:12:21 I have it on the front door, uh, in using the August lock. Um, it, uh, it, uh, doesn't allow you to do that. So, you know, you need to have something where you can unlock the door because I'd really rather not in spite of getting a hundred million dollar ER bill for a heart attack. I'd really rather not have to pay for a door when I come fucking home you broke my door down records show the NYPD has uploaded arrest photos of juveniles into a facial recognition database since 2015 despite higher risk of false matches and young faces this is according to New York Times little oversight there's no oversight on this thing and they're basically collecting children and teenagers.
Starting point is 00:13:07 This is interesting to me that the New York Police Department can do this. Now, I'm not anti-police department and stuff like this, but I am anti-1984. I am an anti-Big Brother. I don't know why I am at this point because, you know, if you walk through New York, there's no way you can get from one end of the island of Manhattan to the other I believe from what I recall reading that without appearing on a camera somewhere so um we already kind of live in that world uh we already kind of give up our privacy to Facebook Google Amazon uh Apple uh so we've already kind of sold our souls that way but But this is kind of interesting because
Starting point is 00:13:45 they're taking photos of children and teenagers and building a database with them, which is kind of interesting. If you, you know, recently TikTok got into trouble with the Justice Department because they were letting kids below 13 onto their platform. And there's rules and regulation laws against that I'm kind of wondering what sort of oversight or protection is you know if people are putting them my kids in their New York PD facial recognition database so who knows man facial recognition is going to continue to be huge we saw a lot of discussion with that with the recent face app where, uh, you know, they pretty much had their licensing saying that they could
Starting point is 00:14:29 take your face and do whatever they want with it. And it was irrevocable as well. Um, the, uh, that's definitely a concern because of, in the future we have facial recognition banking, uh, that would make it very easy for them just to put up a picture of my face and get into my account. Wouldn't it? Yeah. You only think about some of the dangers this thing, uh, does. So, uh, Amazon's ring says that receive some real time nine 11 call data, including addresses from police. It can help curate crime news posts from its neighbors app I had this from Gizmodo I really like ring I love ring and it also gives me when you look at the neighbors app where it posts like what's going on your neighborhood or if somebody had their home broken and close to you it can really help you kind of have a community watch where you're
Starting point is 00:15:22 looking and going if I see those guys in my community, man, I'm calling the cops. In Vegas, one of the biggest problems we started having in the most recent year or two was people going car to car that was parked out front of anyone's house. And if you left it unlocked, they would, of course, scavenge everything in it, including your garage door opener, which was kind of scary because, you know, what if they came back back open your garage door opener when you're gone robbed your house you know it's very easy to do that in fact my next-door neighbors had that happen to him in a car they had left out front fortunately I had a garage and I just had the car for the garage but they had their stolen I said man you better change your garage door opener code because they'll probably be back and then I've been told by police I know if this is true I got told a long time ago but these methods what they do is they
Starting point is 00:16:13 collect these these car garage door openers and they don't necessarily go back the same house what they do is they drive around neighborhoods and a bunch of them sit in a car and fucking, you know, press the buttons and see which, um, codes might open doors because, I mean, I don't know how many codes there are, but you know, they figure they get lucky. So, uh, there's that. So, uh, I'm all for that. I like, I like Amazon ring. I think it's cool that they have that sort of access. I do want to know when weird stuff's going on around me, especially in Las Vegas, there was weird stuff going on around me. Not a lot, but when weird stuff happened, you're like, what's going on? I want to know. So there's that. According to CNET, following its move to stop selling the new dash buttons
Starting point is 00:16:59 in February, Amazon said it will turn off the capabilities for all its dash buttons worldwide on August 31st. Oh, no, the dash button died. Yeah, I think that thing was stupid. I don't... I'd never trust that thing or get that thing. Let's walk around our house and push a button. Yeah, that's got to be great when the little five-year-old decides to push the Tide button like 50,000 freaking times. I don't know. I think there was probably a way to keep that from happening like 50,000 freaking times.
Starting point is 00:17:25 I don't know. I think there was probably a way to keep that from happening. But you know what? I really don't. I mean, I'll go on Amazon and order it when I want. I like to be able to control the pricing. I'm kind of a big control pricing freak there. Let's see.
Starting point is 00:17:43 In other tech news, Senator Dianne Feinstein introduces a bill that would give voters voters five rights including the right to be notified when campaigns obtain their data so that would probably be an implication to um i guess this was prompted from cambridge and lenica's analytica's misuse of facebook users rights uh let's take a look at what this some of the details are this article the legislation is designed to prevent the exploitation of voter data for online political targeting. So it looks like it would probably mandate Facebook and some other people to give knowledge when their data is being sold. I think that's a good thing. I can go for that. You know, they're making billions and billions and billions and billions and billions of dollars.
Starting point is 00:18:26 I want to get notified when somebody has bought my data and they intend to use it against me in a court of social media. So I'm all for that. Let's do that. Yeah, there you go. is looking in the Amazon Apple deal that kicked many small resellers off of marketplace and interviewed at least one reseller refurbished MacBooks I didn't hear about this deal and wow that's pretty evil so they basically so Apple got people kicked off this is from the verge Amazon cut a deal with Apple to bring direct iPhone sales to the platform, but it kicked off the competitors.
Starting point is 00:19:08 Well, Amazon actually does that with a lot of competitors, and a lot of other companies do that as well. They kick competitors off who might be selling used products. I've actually sold used products because Amazon resellers way better than eBay. eBay is shit and on Amazon resellers you actually deal with real people most of the time who are legitimate buyers they're not from Nigeria and they're not gonna fake their bids not pay and you know all the crazy stuff that's going on on eBay then eBay
Starting point is 00:19:40 is worse than a garage sale it's just highway robbery half the time it's really it's really a miracle if you have a good product and even they can sell well and you're not getting hustled all the time by a bunch of nuts um who bid on stuff and you know they never fall through and they just waste all your time so i like amazon reseller but every now and then there are retailers that are like you can't sell or use product which is a real fucking stupid piece of shit thing to do for those companies that the more products they can have on the website people selling them the better hey man uh get get your product out there it's kind of like when pcs opened up with uh microsoft when pcs opened up their license the more you can get out there the better and uh all that sort of good stuff maybe you don't like it because
Starting point is 00:20:29 like why is everyone selling your you shit but you know sometimes I sell you stuff because I want to buy the new stuff so I'm trying to get rid of the old stuff to buy the new thing and that's the other reason it's really stupid for companies to do that I've gotten cease and desist letters from companies like, you don't have a right to use our name in reselling our product. It's like, hey, man, I got a one-off sell. I don't have like an inventory of your stupid shit.
Starting point is 00:20:54 I just got a one-off sell, some like whatever's been laying around the office, and I want to sell it. And once it's sold, that's done, man. I'm not sitting here with pallets of your you shit. So anyway, it's kind of interesting they pulled that deal. Hey, what are you going to do? What are you going to do?
Starting point is 00:21:18 Let's see. What else do we have here? This is from Ars Technica. FCC says ISPs must provide geospatial maps of where they provide service instead of just being listed in listing consensus blocks and will let the public comment on their accuracy. That's kind of interesting. ISPs will have to submit geospatial maps of broadband services.
Starting point is 00:21:40 The FCC voted today. Hmm. Whatever, man. the FCC voted today hmm whatever man Poshmark an online closed marketplace with 50 million users says some user info including names and encrypted passwords was taken by an unauthorized third party you can refer back to what we were talking about earlier oh my god I'm just so tired of it i just everyone who if you compromise my password and you do it really stupidly too on your website like equifax did we all get to line up and punch you in the dick the ceo and whoever the tech thing is that does that we all get to just line up in a giant fucking line and punch you in the fucking dick.
Starting point is 00:22:26 Because that's what it is. And then if you don't want to get punched in the dick, you can pay every motherfucking person like, I don't know, 25 bucks personally out of your little tech guy fucking salary. I'm so sick of this shit. I'm so fucking sick of it and until we make this criminal and we send some people to jail it's not gonna fucking change it's not gonna fucking change anyway so angry chris why are you so angry don't be angry it's a beautiful day uh let's see this is kind of interesting. Wall Street Journal sources the Federal Reserve examined a Virginia Amazon cloud facility in the spring,
Starting point is 00:23:10 the first of what is expected to be ongoing oversight of big cloud providers. So the government cometh, knocking on the door. And when they say, hi, we're the government, we're here to help you, fucking run. Ah, there you go. This is kind of interesting. From The Verge, Facebook says it will open source two algorithms
Starting point is 00:23:31 that use to identify child sexual exploitation, terrorist propaganda, and graphic violence in image and videos. Yep, let's do that, man. Let's get as many fucking people as an army, apps and stuff, hunting for these fucking evil people that exploit children for sex, terrorist propaganda, graphic violence. Get that stuff out there, man. Let's open source it. Facebook tries to control everything and do everything.
Starting point is 00:23:58 Let's get a million eyes on this fucking people and this project and what's's going on and let's let's shut them down man let's let's get the mob let's get the mob showing up with pitchforks and and uh fire man kill these monsters people that exploit children for sex are the most grossest people ever um i think i mean this is my personal opinion i'm going to tell it to you. I really believe that murder is not the number one crime in, um, in the world. Uh, I believe that child molestation, uh, sexual assault, whatever you want to call it, uh, statutory rape of a minor. I believe all that stuff is worse than murder and should be punishable by death because usually once you cross that line, once you become, you know, Mr. What's his face from subway. Uh, once you cross that line, they don't ever stop, man. They have that fetish for life. They can go to jail for 50 million years. They can come out. Uh, and they still got that fetish. Um, so to me, we should just kill them.
Starting point is 00:25:06 I mean, that's just it. When you look at 18, I know kids and go, I should have sex with that. We should kill you. We should just put you out of your misery, our misery, everyone's misery, because, uh, once they get that, that fetish, they're stuck with it, man. It doesn't go away. It lives with them forever. And they're just a danger to us in our community and our children and yeah and the damage that it does is just crazy so you know I I think people can repent from murder maybe go spend you know 60 years in prison and maybe when you come out when you're feeble old man you go you go, I'm sorry, I fucked up. Okay, great. But if you're a pedo, if you're a pedophile, you assault children sexually, no, man, just straight to the death chair for you. This is why I couldn't have been a cop, because if I would have been a cop, any pedo that I caught in the deed probably wouldn't make it back to the precinct, my surgeon would always pull me aside and be like, Hey, Chris, we've had the third pedo this week has been coming back to the jail with you from the arrest.
Starting point is 00:26:11 And somehow your gun keeps discharging and blowing their brains out across the back seat. And this is the third one this week, man. And I'm just like, you know, I don't know. I don't know what's happening, sir. Somehow I just, my gun went off and it ricocheted, I guess, off multiple parts of the inside of the car and went through his skull. Well, it sure looks like a double tap to me. A skull tap.
Starting point is 00:26:43 I don't know. Maybe I'm just a really good accident lame anyway that's why I'm not a cop because I'd be man I just be the my sergeant be like Chris this is the second squad car that you put into the ocean in Florida with a pedo in the back and the pedo died and drowned. Um. Is there something you want to tell us? And I'd be like. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:27:10 I think when there's a pedo in your car. You don't drive very well. They grabbed the steering wheel. Yeah that was it. They grabbed the steering wheel. Anyway. I hate pedos. Can you tell?
Starting point is 00:27:21 Fuck pedos. That should be all of our plan. And not. You know what I mean. Let's see. Researchers at MIT Technology Review have developed AI that learned chess not by playing, but by analyzing reactions of expert commentators in text form to evaluate the quality of the moves. Holy shit, man. Whoa, that thing's going Skynet baby we're so screwed
Starting point is 00:27:48 oh man i watch those boston dynamic robot videos the robot dogs and all i can hear is the that that terminator 2 uh theme music blowing through my head wow man, man. So they're actually working. They don't know the moves, but they're figuring out what the moves are based upon the responses. And by how, how, uh, excited,
Starting point is 00:28:12 like, Oh my gosh, they did a X, Y, Z move. Wow. That's freaking crazy. So,
Starting point is 00:28:21 uh, interesting things going on in our tech world. Uh, if you guys have some news, be sure to send me an email, or if you want to come on the podcast, talk, interesting things going on in our tech world. Uh, if you guys have some news, be sure to send me an email, or if you want to come on the podcast, talk about different things, you can do that as well. And you can, uh, you know, um, take and see if, uh, if, um, you know, we can get you on the show. You can talk about what's going on in the show and everything else and, uh, find out more about what we're doing and we'll find out more about what you're doing.
Starting point is 00:28:47 And yeah, so there you have it. Some of the tech news that is happening today and what's going on and everything else. Be sure to check those out. You can also go to thechrisvossshow.com. That's thechrisvossshow.com or thec V P N.com. And, uh,
Starting point is 00:29:06 you can take and subscribe to any of the seven different, um, um, podcasts that are on there. There's a crypto one. There's an AI VR. Um, what else is on there?
Starting point is 00:29:18 There's a book author publishing thing. So please refer the show to your friends. Give us a review on the channels like iTunes, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. We certainly appreciate it as well. Thanks for tuning in. We'll see you next time.
