So anyway, we have a new amazing young lady on the show.
We're going to be talking to her about her insights and her
company and what she does.
Today we're joined by Don Norby. And Dawn is,
Dawn, give us your bio so that we have a breakdown of your history and what you do and how you do it.
So I am a wife, a mother, and an entrepreneur that started a CBD hemp company shortly after my son
and I were both cured of different disorders and diseases
and living in East Texas, living the good life.
Living the good life. So tell us about your company. What's your title there,
the name of it, and your dot com?
You bet. Don Norby. I am the owner and operator of Budding Botanicals, and our website is buddingbotanicalsusa.com.
You can find us online, also at Facebook, same name, Budding Botanicals.
And so give us a 30,000 overview of what you guys do there and why it's important.
So we make all of our products naturally from all natural organic products.
And we make everything from tinctures and salves to sun lotion, suntan screens, sunscreens, mosquito repellent that is deep free, lotions, face lotions, face creams, capsules, tinctures, pretty much everything you would need to fight
pretty much all of your ailments that you might have.
Tell us the story of what helped you create this company. I mean,
this is a great entrepreneurial story and a beautiful story as well.
Tell us what got you into this.
So back in 2006, our son was diagnosed with aplastic anemia. And he was in remission for about five years.
And then he developed a secondary condition where his red blood cells wouldn't carry oxygen.
And the only cure for PNH and aplastic anemia is a bone marrow transplant.
So we immediately put him on the list to get the transplant going, as our other son was not a match. And during that time, they were locating a
marrow donor, make a wish, approached us and asked if they could offer Trevor a make a wish.
And we initially turned them down because we thought it was for children who
were destitute and basically just getting their final wish. And they explained to us,
no, it's for anybody going through any trials and tribulations like,
like my son was.
So we let him choose.
And initially his first choice was knocked down because he wanted to go
play golf at Augusta.
And Augusta said,
no,
we don't do anything like that.
So that really made my son upset.
Wow.
That's kind of a,
it's kind of a cool. Dying, suffering children. Wow. That's crazy. I'm never going to go to Augusta.
No. It kind of turned him off of Augusta. He goes, when I win the Masters, I'm going to bring
that up to them. I'm going to get really mad. So his second choice was, I want to go where
golf started. I want to go play at St. Andrews, the old course over in Scotland. And they asked
if we have passports and we did. And 10 days later, we were on a flight, all four of us to
Scotland. And we were there for 10 days and he got to play five different golf courses. He was treated like royalty over there.
We got to go to the cashmere company where they make cashmere. They gave him a beautiful blanket
and basically he got to play all of these golf courses. He was giving caddies for everyone.
We were given our own driver. It was the most amazing thing in the world.
And we came home and two weeks later,
he was getting his bone marrow transplant and in a lot of pain. And he goes, Mom, I don't want the
drugs. I'm going to start high school. I don't want to be addicted. Help me. So I called my
husband and said, come talk to Trevor. They have a great rapport. And they sat for four to five
hours talking about every golf shot that they played in Scotland.
And it helped my son get through all of that pain and get his mind on something else.
That is awesome. Wow.
Yeah. It was then I decided to pay it forward and allow everybody that was going through something like my son was to help see their wish. So when my son was cured,
I was getting ready to volunteer for Make-A-Wish and I found a lump in my breast
and was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Oh no.
So I get to deal with that.
I'm cured now.
And I called Make-A-Wish and said,
I'd really like to volunteer.
Can I get on the wait list?
And they said, absolutely.
So I got on, did all the training, everything was
great. And they gave me my first wish kiddo, who happened to have leukemia, and went to speak with
the family about his wish. And mom said, you know, I have no idea the kind of pain he's going through.
And I said, I do. She goes, what can I do for him? And I said, you know, a lot of showers,
baths, things like that. She goes, no, I want something him? And I said, you know, a lot of showers, baths, things like that.
She goes, no, I want something a little more.
Can you try to find out how to make a salve for my son out of CBD?
And of course I said, yes, not have any idea what CBD was.
Didn't even know what it was.
So I went home and living in California, we had a lot of friends that owned dispensaries and spoke with one of them.
And he recommended I use CBD, but I use it from the hemp plant.
So there's no THC in there because being a little kiddo, he doesn't need to get psychoactive properties in his body.
He's already got enough poisons running through it.
We don't need to get him high as well so i went back and i spoke
with the doctors and they said as long as it's all natural and organic you can do whatever you want
pardon me so back to the drawing board i went and i got some all natural
grown hemp that was processed with water and we got isolate. So it took out this,
the broad spectrum and the full spectrum and everything,
but the CBD.
And I made a pretty strong salve and went back to their house and mom went
and put it on him.
And for the first time in about four and a half,
five months,
little kiddo came running down the stairs,
running outside to go play with his brother.
And mom says, okay, he is, he's, he can't even walk right now and look at him running so i don't know what you did but i want a vat of that so we ended up loving it doing it took it took some to the
hospital offered it to the doctors to give to patients and basically they said can you just
keep us stocked with this stuff my husband says husband says, I think you, I think you've got a business
here. You might want to do something with it. So that's basically how budding botanicals was
created. What a great story. This is the reason I love stories of entrepreneurs. I love their
journeys, what they go through. I mean, entrepreneurs really contribute and make the world a better place.
You know, even, you know, even budding Steve Jobs and, you know, you hear the, you know,
starting a business in the garage and going from there.
It's just amazing.
And a lot of entrepreneurs do what you did.
They have a need, they have a product or something they need fulfilled, or they have an idea or concept, you know, sometimes necessity
brings out the best innovation. And so, you know, here you're going through these hard times
and you find a way to rise up, you find a way to help your son, you find a way to help others
and really just giving back, you know, that's, that's so much what an entrepreneur does.
They look at something and they go, I think I can make this or make this better and I think I can and I
think I'd not only will help me but it will help other people as well and
that's the beauty of you know entrepreneurism and capitalism and what
we do here in America and other democratic countries agreed a business
yeah and I imagine in imagine everyone has a business in countries maybe that don't have
capitalism. I mean, technically everyone's selling something when it comes down to it to survive
doing their work. But budding botanicals. So you tell us about what the product is and some of the
variations. You've got some different variations of your CBD products. Give us a rundown on some of them, what they do and how they do it. You bet. So we started with the salve and our salve or bud balm,
whatever you'd like to call it, is topically applied to wherever you might have joint pain,
arthritis, back pain. If you've worked out a little too hard,
pardon me, pretty much anywhere where you've got aches and pains.
It's great to put on your temples if you have a headache. I get headaches behind my eyes,
so I will rub it on my eyelids and boom, the headache is gone. It's amazing.
Then we go on to our tinctures. So if you have arthritis and any inflammation in your body and it's causing you pain or irritation, we take it orally under your tongue so the receptors can grab it and get it in your body.
That is recommended you take daily.
And there's everything from 200 milligrams.
We go up to 10,000 milligrams.
And then we've also done a 50,000 milligram for my son when he had his shoulder surgery.
So we can do it pretty darn strong, knock out a horse pretty much.
We have capsules available that are great for sleeping if you have a hard time sleeping,
which I ended up having a really hard time sleeping when my son got sick.
I tried everything over the counter, everything prescription.
Couldn't get anything to just make me go to sleep, but be able to wake up if I had to
and not feel like I was in a fog in the morning if I didn't get enough sleep.
We have also created a DEET-free all-natural mosquito repellent. And if you forget to put
that on, we've got an X-itch that helps with any type of mosquito or insect bite
as well as showing
to help very well with
psoriasis and eczema.
So
we've got quite a bit of different
products. We also have a collagen and
CBD infused face cream
that works great
and body lotions
as well as pet treats. treats as well so you got
products for the pets we do a lot of pets have separation anxiety a lot of pets have
a hard time when company comes over they get afraid they get skittish they get protective
and also the older they get the more arthritis get. So it's great for them to
not have to be on any drugs, but they can also feel the relief from CBD naturally.
Yeah. I love that because I'm going through that right now. Two months ago, we lost our older dog
and my younger dog that was, you know, she grew up knowing her and she's younger. So she's having
a real hard time with it.
And we're dealing with a lot of separation anxiety.
And we've used CBD to get her calmed down and try and make it so that I can go to the gym for a couple hours a day.
Yeah, have a life.
Leave the house every now and then.
But thank God I work from home.
But, yeah, it's been a nightmare.
And I love how you guys have cbd pet treats so it looks
like the cbd is baked into the the pet treats that you can give them correct and it's all natural
organic beef that is freeze-dried oh wow freeze-dried i need some i'm gonna have to look
into that because i we we try and give her the the tincture stuff with the glass dropper,
and it makes me paranoid because they don't like it.
I have to hold their mouth open.
And, boy, if they get a good bite in,
they're going to break that glass off in their mouth.
Yeah, have you tried putting it on their food?
Yeah, they're not going to.
My dog's going through this.
It's part of her depression.
She won't eat her food.
She will barely eat certain treats.
The treats vary from hour to hour, what she'll eat.
I mean, it's really stuff we're going through right now with depression in a pet.
But I like how you have the pet treats in that form because it's probably better, easier for them to eat a treat than do the thing but i imagine even if i had
treats the way she's being so finicky we'd have to do the finger down the mouth thing push it down
on its own but yeah anything to get them calm why is cbd such a popular product why is it why does
it work or you know give us just a little bit of overview of this so out of all of my studying and research that I've done, our bodies produce
CBD all on their own. And for somebody to call CBD a drug is hilarious because then we're all
illegal just for being born. But we have CBD in our bodies. We just don't have enough of it in our bodies to have a medicinal effect.
So by adding stuff, you can, by adding CBD, you can help yourself alleviate naturally certain things that come up.
It's great for anxiety.
It's great for ADD or ADHD.
Instead of these prescription medications, it's also good for depression.
Granted, for for those you need
to take it internally and take the tincture so you're gonna and the thing with cbd is there isn't
500 milligrams is going to work on you 500 milligrams will be too much for a kid and it
might not be as much as good enough or strong enough for someone like me. So you have to find what works
for you. And it takes, it's a process of trial and error. You have to take it for about a week,
stay with one steady dose for about a week, and then reevaluate and okay, am I feeling
less inflamed? Are my rings fitting better? Are my fingers not hurting as much? Is my back not
hurting as much? Or whatever it is you're looking to help alleviate and then after a week you're
going to say okay i feel great but maybe a little tired so if you're a little tired you've got a
little too much you want to break it down a little bit and take a little less if you're not tired
then and you feel like you know i still kind of ache it's kind of hard to get up
out of bed in the morning then you want to try it a little more and add a little more to your dose
and try that for a week and then reevaluate until you can figure out what works for your body
so every body processes cbd differently there is a 98 chance that cbd will work for you there's two percent of the population cbd does
not work on because they've got a certain chemical in their blood chemistry that does not allow cbd
to be absorbed but you have a 98 chance that it will work for you so it's it's it you know, I started in Vegas, I think it was 2017 or something, they made pot illegal.
And I never took CBD oil at that time.
But at the time, I was going through an immense amount of Tylenol.
I was living on Tylenol a lot.
And I was in lots of just old age pain.
And I was, of course, still eating, I little unhealthy and and I was still drinking back then too so some of the Tylenol was going to hangovers and
and just getting over that sort of thing but I still was like just feeling like crap I was
overweight and just felt miserable and my old age and wasn't exercising wasn't going to the gym so
that was probably a lot of it actually and I was just consuming i don't know a lot of tylenol every day and just for pains and aches and just trying to
get everybody moving and you know i feel it's kind of funny i go to the gym all the time now and i
feel great so you would think i would be more beat up from going to the gym and sitting around but
that's that's what not exercising does for you so So I was living on Tylenol.
I was just going through it like every day.
Pop some Tylenol.
And they legalized pot.
And so I started having it delivered.
And of course, pot has CBD oil in it or CBD in it, depending upon how you consume it.
And I started taking it.
And I was just amazed at how relaxing it was.
You know, all my friends that told me, they're like, oh, yeah, it's really, it heals pain and heals your body and relaxes everything so your body can heal itself, et cetera, et cetera.
I'm like, yeah, yeah, that's really cool.
My vodka does that, too.
It relaxes you.
Yeah, yeah.
Your little story there.
I never believed them, you know.
I know friends that be like, they would have PTSD.
They would have other different ailments.
And I'm like, yeah, it really helps you through.
And people with cancer, I'd be like, hey, man, if you've got to get high for that, have fun.
And so I just kind of overlooked all the properties because I never really tried it.
And then once I did, about six months later, I went into my upstairs third bathroom, which I rarely used.
And I found the bottle of Tylenol and I'm like oh I haven't touched any Tylenol for six
months and you know Tylenol is not the best thing for you it's not the best thing for
your kidneys and livers either and I was like holy crap this is why the drug
companies don't want CBD and THC legalized at the time.
And I was like, wow, because this stuff works and it's natural and it's technically free
for anyone who wants to grow it.
You know, there's no, there's no trademark or copyright on the, on the drug.
And so this is why, you know, they they they want this to be eagle so yeah it was a real testament
to how much of a difference it made in my life and yeah pain and aches and and and all sorts of
stuff and it's a natural thing it's kind of interesting how much of the world that's out
there that's natural is is kind of made that way and if we just get smart and we
use different things we can improve the quality of our health so it was pretty shocking yeah
i was like this is why the big pharma companies hate free marijuana you can grow yourself and
the big pharma companies are now trying to get into cbd and THC so they can do their own testing and then push out
the little guy, which if I'm going to get pushed out of it, that's great. As long as there's
something out there that's going to help people that is not medicated, that is not an arm and a
leg, that is not going to have psychoactive properties or something where it's going to make you feel like you're not
yourself yeah most definitely and it really helps with sleep my mom takes cbd oil she doesn't take
the thc version it really helps her with everything she does she swears by it
subi i see on your website you you guys do wholesale CBD as well.
Tell us about what that is about for people.
We do a lot of wholesale.
We also have a couple of companies that white label our products.
Can't mention those legally, but we've got white label options.
We've got wholesale and we've got retail.
We also offer free samples on our website because I believe that you should be able
to try something before you buy it.
So we just charge a flat shipping rate.
So we don't make anything on it.
We just pay for it.
You pay for the shipping.
We pay the shipping that you paid and get you a sample.
So if you're going to use CBD topically, put it on and you're going to know within three minutes if it's going to work on you or not.
It usually takes 30 seconds to a minute, but we like to say give it three minutes.
But you're going to know really quickly if CBD works on you or not.
Yeah, it's really good stuff.
So if somebody's out there listening and they're curious about maybe starting their own CBD business or whatever, they can work with you to wholesale your CBD products.
They don't have to come up with their own concoctions and recipes and try and make it.
And you can have almost a pop-up business as it were.
Correct.
And they can put their own label, their own name on it.
No problem.
We've been doing this for 11 years now.
We've made quite a name for it. No problem. We've been doing this for 11 years now. We've made quite a name for
ourselves and we have a 96% return rate of customers. So 96% of our customers return
almost monthly to place more orders. That is awesome. That is awesome. And then CBD doesn't
get you high. If people are concerned concerned about that they're not fully educated
thc is the element i think you mentioned that earlier in the show but i just want to make that
clear as a foundation cbd won't get you high i mean maybe if you take enough of it 10 000 gallons
no i'm just kidding folks it would knock you out it would put you to sleep don Don't do that. Use it sparingly. But yeah. And is there any side effects to CBD
oil use? It can make you sleepy if you don't want to be. So be wary if you're taking a lot of it in
the morning. If you want to sleep and you want to get off any of the prescription pain sleep pills
or over-the-counter sleep medications, take it at bedtime. It's great.
I take it every night for sleeping and for my depression, which is gone now.
And my young son takes it every morning for his anxiety.
And the amount that he takes for anxiety, if I was to take that amount, I would go to sleep for probably 17, 18 hours.
He just metabolizes it a lot easier than I do. Like I said, you have to
work with the dosing to figure out what works best for you. And that's the most frustrating
part for some people is I just want to know what to take and just take it. And that's not how CBD
works. It's a trial and error to find out what works best for you. And we always say,
start less, you can add more. But if you start with a really high amount and you're knocked out,
it's okay, I got to start all over again and go lower. So it's just best to start less and add
more till you find what works for you. And not all CBDs are the same. You've got to find a product that is grown
organically and naturally, and that is processed without chemicals when it's processed from the
plant to be the CBD full spectrum, broad spectrum, or isolate. And because we deal with so many
children and coming from California, Southern California, we were near military bases, and we chose to go with just straight hemp isolate.
So nobody that uses our products will ever get a false positive on a drug test.
And that is important to know. frequently for your job or profession, whatever you do, make sure you're taking an isolate
instead of a broad or a full spectrum CBD because those can show false positive.
These are real important to know because it can make all the difference in what you're doing.
And CBD is completely legal across the nation. Is that correct? Where you can ship it online?
It is. I can ship anywhere worldwide except Australia.
Really?
Wow.
What does Australia have against CBD oil?
They have their own insurance.
They have their own stuff,
and they don't want anything that might help or hinder.
Ah, they got their own thing going on.
That's what a lot of countries do.
What about reducing anxiety?
That's something, stress, anxiety, different things. I guess it works well for that also. and he was just having a really hard time coping because all of a sudden college was now not in class.
It was on computers, which my eldest loved because he doesn't like dealing with people,
and my youngest one lives to chat and socialize.
So it was difficult for him, so we put him on some CBD.
The doctors wanted, let's try some anxiety products and stuff like that.
And we're like, you know, we're going to try it on our own.
We just want to make sure he's okay and he can take it.
And he does great now.
He's just, he was before COVID hit.
So it's great for that.
Depression as well.
Yeah.
It's kind of an interesting little miracle.
So what should people know about CBD maybe that we haven't talked about or what you guys
do there at Budding Botanicals?
Whenever anybody calls us or emails us, we let them know I'm not a doctor.
Everything I have found out and learned is from trial and error.
And even doctors are not going to know enough about CBD to recommend it or not.
If you're on blood pressure medication, you need to check with your doctor before taking CBD.
That's the only thing that they have found CBD can interact with is blood pressure medications. And there's only two that they found to have
a problem with it. So always check with your doctor. We always recommend checking with your
doctor anyway to see if CBD would be okay to take. And it's just I don't care who you buy it from or
where you buy it. Just make sure you do your homework and that it is all natural and that it is something that will not give you a false positive on a drug test.
And it is safe for children as well as adults all the way up till 100 years old plus.
So it's safe to give to children.
It doesn't hurt your body. People that give their children melatonin to sleep are actually not helping their children at all.
Because once you start taking melatonin, your body doesn't make it anymore.
So you're in trouble the rest of your life.
You're not going to make the melatonin to help you sleep.
So you've got to find something else for your body to help you sleep.
This is a great product.
So give people a final pitch out as we go out,
Tulsa.com, where they can order it up and maybe they can reach out for you with questions they
have on the wholesale basis or any other questions they might have. Perfect. So again, we're Budding
Botanicals and our website is Budding, B-U-D-D-I-N-G, Botanicals, B-O-T-A-N-I-C-A-L-S, and then USA.com.
So, Bunny Botanicals USA.
You can call us.
Our phone number's on the website.
You can reach out, email.
We always get back to you.
We are a family business.
We are not a big corporate company.
It's just all of our family works on this and helps out.
And we process, we grow, we process grow we process we make we bottle and we ship
everything so we know where this cbd comes from from seed to sale so we know you're getting
something all natural and nothing added that shouldn't be there it's been fun to have you on
very insightful i'm a big purveyor of thc andC and CBD. I am hoping that they legalize it all.
I think all of it's great,
but CBD is definitely something I've seen help so many people.
Agreed.
It's a great way to do all that.
