Hi folks, it's Foss here from thechrisfossshow.com, thechrisfossshow.com.
Hey, come in here with another great podcast.
I certainly appreciate you guys tuning in.
It is your day, my day, all of our day, August 15th on a Thursday, 2019.
Tuning into the world to see what's going on.
Why is there a rainbow dust buster behind me for blinds and crap? That's kind of funny.
I should probably, I don't know. It's kind of an interesting prop. It's a prop, if you will.
Those of you on Periscope, sorry, you probably can't see that. My bad. I doubt it's going to
stay around, but it's kind of funny when you really think about it and stuff. So anyway,
guys, if you're tuning into the show, be sure to subscribe to the official podcast. You're seeing it being broadcast
on Periscope and Facebook live right now, but be sure to subscribe to the official one.
You can go to, uh, the CVPN.com that's the CVPN.com. And there you can subscribe to all
the different syndicated places we have for the Chris Voss Show.
Chris Voss Show is, Jesus, approaching, I think, 350, 400, 350, 400 shows.
Holy crap, there's so much stuff there.
You could spend most of your life listening to it, which what better way to spend your life when you really think about it?
So there's that.
So go to chrisfosspodcastnetwork.com. You can
subscribe to all the shows. There's seven podcasts and there's iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, YouTube,
iHeartRadio, Spreaker, Stitcher, Digital Podcast, Player FM, TuneIn, and Luminary Podcasts. How's
that for fun? So let's talk about news today. We don't have a guest. So we're going to be talking
about the news and I have some interesting, funny stuff you're going to love. So let's dig into some of
it. I didn't really find anything on Product Hunt. Oh, no, I lied. I lied to you. Sorry about that.
I try not to lie to my audience, but I got something interesting on Product Hunt. So every
day with the Chris Vaughn Show podcast, if you're not subscribed, you're watching this on one of the Periscope or Facebook Live,
subscribe to the show.
I kind of pick out what I like on ProductHunt.com.
And this is pretty interesting.
It's kind of funny.
So we'll get into some business news here in a second.
But this is business news.
This is Product Hunt.
And for some of you who are social, you might like this product.
I don't know why someone didn't come up
with this sooner i mean technically grinder app is kind of what that's about although i think
that's really just like a sexual preference so um someone has created uh an app called waves
it's a dating app that matches who you're into with the same sexual fantasies and fetishes as you.
Yeah, that's what.
So basically, instead of going on and let's say you meet somebody on Tinder or Bumble or one of these other apps.
I should be getting a paycheck for
that reference, huh? If you meet somebody on these apps and, you know, you seem like you're
compatible, but then you go in the bedroom and you find out you're both very different in kind
of what, you know, makes things work for you. So this is pretty interesting. Somebody's put
together an app called the Waves app and it's doing fairly well. It's got about 69 upvotes right now this morning on product hunt.com.
You go to waves dating.com, check out the website. Uh, it looks like it's only on the
app store right now for iPad and iPhone. So, um, I don't know. What can you say?
So, uh, you know, it's kind of interesting. People have different sort of sexual fetishes.
Some people have different sexual fantasies.
I've known people in my whole life, employees and stuff, and sometimes you'll hear about their personal relationships or what their thing is that makes their relationship work sexually.
And that's okay.
We're not judging anybody. And, uh, you know, as long as everyone's a consenting adult, no one's getting harmed
and, and, uh, consenting adult being the two key words there.
Um, you know, I, it, what, what you work out is what you work out.
There's an old joke.
Uh, I guess I'll bring this in cause this is funny.
So we'll bring it in.
So, um, yeah, I know.
So, um, so there's an old story story a friend of mine told me one time.
This guy goes into a bar, and he's sitting at the bar, and he starts crying.
And the bartender's like, what happened, man?
And he's like, my girlfriend, my wife, you know, we broke up, and she left me.
And he's like, okay, you know, here's a beer, man.
And so then a girl comes up, sits down beside him, and she's crying too. The bartender's like, okay, you know, here's a beer man. And then, so then a girl comes up, sits down beside him and she's crying too.
Bartender's like, what happened to you?
And she's like, well, you know, my boyfriend, my husband broke up with me because I'm, you
know, too freaky in bed.
So the two of them are sitting next to each other.
They get talking.
They find out they're both, they both had their boyfriends or girlfriends or spouses
leave them because they were too kinky in bed.
Right?
So they decide that, well, geez, they were too kinky in bed. Right. So they decide that,
well, geez, we're both kinky. We should just, you know, go make a night of it. And, uh, so they go
over to her house. So she says, you know, let me slip into something, uh, more, whatever, you know,
that line. And so she goes in the bathroom, she starts putting on her dominatrix outfit,
her leathers, her whips, her chains, you know, all that sort of stuff right and uh she comes walking out of the bathroom
and she sees him putting on his trench coat and leaving and uh she says uh she says hey man i
thought we were gonna get kinky he goes i already did i had sex with your cat i pooped in your purse
and now i'm done see you. The basic premise of what that
joke was told to me like decades ago was that everyone's definition of kinky is different.
What might be kinky for you might be not kinky for someone else or vice versa. You know what
I'm saying? Anyway, this is kind of interesting. The Waves app.
So you can go on there.
I haven't tried it out yet.
I guess I'll have to use it on my iPad because I don't have an iPhone because I have good taste.
And you can go on there.
I don't know.
I don't know if there's a bunch of boxes you check.
But, you know, what's the privacy on this sort of thing? Do you want the whole world knowing that you're into whatever fetish you're into? I don't know. It's going to be an interesting app to
check out. You can look at it. It's on producthunt.com or you can go to wavedating.com. I
thought it was funny and interesting and a great way to lead off the show. Um, but basically, uh,
yeah, there's, there's some people, uh, I guess it came out of, according to one of the co-creators,
a friend of hers got choked by a guy she met on Tinder and didn't enjoy it.
And so basically, you can kind of find people that are within your safe boundaries of what works for you sexually.
And I don't know, maybe that'll make for better relationships,
maybe a better chance of finding that person who shares your thing like i you know i know there's some guys who are in
women's feet uh you know and they're like and you know if they don't find somebody who likes their
feet then you know that's weird so this app will make you be whatever but the thing is do i want
to see my friends on this app like do i want to see my
close friends on hey you had your facebook friends you know like bumble actually on bumble when i
went to south by southwest a bunch of my friends were there i didn't realize that my friends would
show up um and the bumble was still like broadcasting my location so it started serving
me people that were local and i
started coming across people when i was at south by southwest that i was friends with on facebook
that you know they're social media people too so they're descending on south by and i was like
this is weird i don't i don't want to know this information about people um and you know i didn't
want to i didn't you know there's people that i'm just friends, I didn't want to, I didn't, you know, there's people that I'm just
friends with. I don't want to read their Tinder profile or Bumble profile and be like, wow. Okay.
All right. So anyway, not that mine's magical in any way, shape or form. Uh, mine's just like,
Hey, I'm a mess. If you want a mess, I I'm, I'm your mess. Anyway, i'm just kidding so uh yeah you can check it out the waves app
and all that good stuff so check it out on product hunt one of the things that stuck out to me
uh another interesting story today that did i kind of you know i kind of watch these trends i watch
what the youth of america are doing uh and uh the wall street journal today has a story where the resumes that are starting to come in to employers are looking like Instagram and sometimes even Tinder.
Uh, the new trend with, and this is with the gen Z, I believe.
Yeah.
The gen Z entering the workforce.
They're putting forth resumes that look like an Instagram thing.
And they have like circular photos. They have bit emojis, which really isn't, you know,
exciting to employers. You're like, you put a bit emoji on your resume. Um, so, um,
so yeah, basically, uh, they're, they're posting photos that belong in your personal
social media accounts and online dating profiles not your resume which you know me i have on my
resume i of course have a picture of me in uh some nice some nice leggings some high heels and uh
a nice uh i don't know i can't name like fashion dresses or anything
whatever you know make something up from an oscar show anyway that's it's a fill in the joke week
chris can't finish the joke because he can't do a fashion clothing reference so just fill it in
your fucking self anyway uh so i think that's pretty funny they've got some different pictures
of some of the different things now what's interesting is some employers are like really
freaked out about it because they're like too much information buddy okay uh we really don't
want to see like your tinder profile on a resume like you know like i like dogs i'm into walking in the park and uh like holding hands
i like pina coladas when i'm caught in the rain
uh i'm not much into health food sounds like a song i'm probably gonna sue now for that
using that i i almost started singing it and
then I realized that I probably get tagged for copyright so oopsie but
anyway people are putting bitmojis emojis on their thing you know what I
would do is I would have a big poop emoji stamp and then I just stamp it on
the resume and it would basically just say rejected and then the poop emoji and
then I'd mail it back to them as a rejection letter.
How about them apples?
There you go, buddy.
Here's an emoji for your bitmoji.
So anyway, there are some employers that like it
because they say it shows some gumption.
It shows they're willing to put some investment in what they're doing.
They're caring about what they do.
I got to tell you, years ago, we used to have huge companies and hire people en masse.
One of the biggest ways to get thrown out of my office, because I would do the interviews
with people, at least our salespeople. One of the biggest ways to get
thrown out of the office is to take and show up without a resume. And if you showed up without a
resume, I would basically just kick you out of the office. I'd be like, nope, sorry, you got to go.
And so basically, to me, if you showed up up my office looking for a job you didn't have
a resume you just you just were phoning it in you just didn't care you just didn't want to put in
the effort and like some people have this attitude too i'd be like you don't have a resume you're
coming in for a job you want me to pay you like a lot of money and you're just gonna not even bother to type out a resume or print anything
and i just be like you know what fuck you man fuck you uh yeah you know if you can't put in
the work up front this is part of the gig that you put the investment in front and uh and we
take and uh decide whether you're worthy of working for us.
But here's the deal, man.
If you can't front up, if you can't make an investment,
then we're not going to hire you.
So this is kind of interesting what's going on.
You can see in the Wall Street Journal today,
resumes are starting to look like Instagram and sometimes even Tinder.
So I guess the Gen Z workforce is going to make it the way they are.
Some employers like it because it shows creativity. Uh, so I guess the Gen Z force workforce is going to make it the way they are a lot.
Some employers like it because it shows creativity. It shows investment in a job.
It shows, you know, I imagine if you're going in for a creative job, like, uh, copying,
uh, doing, uh, copyright, stuff like that, and working for like an ad agency, this would
be a brilliant way to get a good job or not.
Some employers have looked at it and gone, Hmm, I don't like brilliant way to get a good job or not. Some employers
have looked at it and gone, I don't like it. It looks more like a Tinder profile.
So there's that. So those are some of the items that stuck out on me on Product Hunt and is also
on top of the Wall Street Journal and some of my minds of what's going on there. Google Assistant
is now going to let users create reminders that can be assigned to families or friends. Uh, according to the keyword, um,
included scheduled time-based or location-based reminders. So I guess that's pretty good. You can
tell people, Hey man, uh, do you want to take in, uh, do you want to take in, uh, uh, you know,
tell Johnny when to mow the lawn and crap, maybe stuff like that. You can be like, hey, Bob, do this, do that, all that sort of good stuff.
You'd have the ability to pull that off as well.
Amazon is going to launch a new donations program called FBA Donations.
It's kind of interesting.
Maybe they're trying to get rid of their inventory.
According to CNBC, they are going to allow third-party sellers to dispose of unsold products
stored in warehouses in the U.S. and U.K.
I guess they're trying to get rid of the shit that's not selling.
And they're like, hey, if you want to write this off, please get it the hell out of our building.
So there's that.
What can you do?
According to, let's see, what is it, Vice has got some reporting here.
Microsoft updates its privacy policy to say employees or contractors may listen to recordings from Cortana or Skype translator after reports reveal the practice.
This has been coming out.
You know, we've been seeing this last few days.
We've been actually talking about this where you had, what was Alexa, and then you had Google Voice or Google Assistant and it's coming out now where these people are transposing the stuff Facebook as well
and basically listen to whatever the hell you're talking about in your house so this is kind of
interesting and what's going on and it's a wonder they don't. There's an article here from Slate talking about how tech companies should do more to protect the identities of people speaking in the recordings used to train AI, like shifting the voice or gender of the speaker.
I think that's definitely something they should do.
They need to figure out a way to, uh, to make that, uh,
what's the word I'm looking for? We basically a way so they can't be described back to you.
Although I do, I would think it was creepy if there's people transponding, uh, what goes on
when, you know, your girlfriend's over your wife's over your husband's over whatever. Um,
that's all showing up, you know. The thing's always listening.
In fact, what is it?
Like Alexa says, hey, we're always listening to train this thing.
So there you go.
I love it.
It's kind of an interesting world that's changed for a long time.
With Google Glasses, people would yell at me for recording them.
They're like, I'm being recorded. Now they're just fine with being recorded by google
assistant and alexa and everything else uh according to verge about 200 google employees
signed a petition saying they refuse to be complicit in potential cloud computing work
for the u.s customs and border protection agency this is kind of interesting there's there's a lot
growing uh within google of this kind of uh what's the word I'm looking for, this kind of rebellion, whether it's the Me Too movement or salaries.
It seems to be a lot like Google has reached a point and they have a core center of people that are doing a lot of contesting of what the company does and how they do it.
This is interesting as well. We're seeing a lot of banks that are pulling out of supporting the immigration systems
and funding of these cage facilities that they're building for immigrants.
So this should be kind of interesting.
I think a while ago they fought with the government over some of the Private X things
they were doing as well.
So that was something that stuck out to me in the news today.
The Verge is reporting that Sega's Genesis Mini is going to launch September 19th for $79.99.
This is going to be kind of interesting.
It's 55% smaller than the original Genesis, comes with two usb controllers and has 42 built-in
games so if you're a gamer you'll love that you love the nintendo's tiny nes classic you can check
this out and everything else there's so many different consoles coming i mean google has their
thing that they're doing which is creating a lot of great competition for PS4, Xbox, and everything else in the place. I believe
it's called Stadia? Stedia? Speedia? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, it's already
created a whole lot of different opening of things. One of the things that my gaming community has
always talked about is we would like to have cross-save where, you know, I have a friend
who plays on Xbox and I play on PS4, but we play the same game.
Like, why can't we play together on those games?
Why, you know, there's PC, there's Xbox, there's, you know, all these different platforms.
Why can't we make it so that we can all play?
Because we're basically playing the same damn game and so what we're finally seeing now uh and some of it came from pressure with google's
launch of their system that they're going to do for gaming uh nvidia um sega all these different
people is uh the breakdown where uh there's no more there's not going to be any more walls between
uh some of these consoles depend upon the game because the evidently the games have to do their
own negotiating uh and so we've
seen fortnite is kind of the one who broke sony to finally give people uh access to you know have
their own uh have the game sharing uh destiny just recently picked it up so i'll now be able
to play with all my friends on pc on xbox on what is it ps PS4, and I believe the new Google platform console, whatever it's called.
I think it's mostly cloud-based.
NVIDIA as well.
NVIDIA kind of has a way to work around it, which is kind of interesting with their console.
So watch for that.
Cross-sharing will be coming to a lot of different things.
I'm really excited about it because I really get tired of having,
like right now we have huge clans,
about 17 different clans for one game, Destiny 2.
We have a bunch of them on PS4
and then we have a bunch of them on PC.
And so I have to keep dual games, you know,
and I've got friends over there.
But I got all my good loot on PS4
and I can't have it over on pc or i'm gonna
go grind for it and it's real pain in the ass but now with cross saving i'll be able to you know
have all my cool loot on ps4 take it over play with my friends on pc and then come back again
to ps4 really excited about what's going on with that so that should be pretty interesting as well
um anyway uh i think that's pretty much it for me and what kind of stuck out to me in the news and tech world.
