Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi folks, it's Voss here from thechrisvossshow.com, thechrisvossshow.com. Hey, coming here with another great episode. This is an exciting one. AT&T sends us a lot of phones for the Chris Voss Show over the last 10 years or so, and they've sent us, holy crap, the new Google Pixel 4 XL. This is a beautiful, wonderful phone. I've been really enamored by it since I've gotten my little hands around it. And yeah, it's a definitely super worthy phone. And it's got some
Starting point is 00:00:33 really cool features that I'm excited about and I really enjoy. So let's talk about the phone, what it does, and how it works. You can go to AT&T.com to order yourself up one of these you can get the Google pixel 4 or the pixel 4 XL the XL is the one that we got you can get it in three different colors there's black clearly white and oh so orange which is kind of interesting color two different capacities 64 gigabytes or 128 gigabytes of memory it does not have a micro SD card, which is kind of interesting, but that's a lot of memory. And what they do is they give you, I believe it's an unlimited thing, they give you to Google Photos. So basically, you don't need a whole lot of memory because everything just goes up to Google Photos. How about them apples? You can, of course, buy it on one of AT&T's installment plans, or you can buy it outright at a full retail price,
Starting point is 00:01:24 no contract. so there you go uh pretty some of the things that stand out on this baby uh it will give you studio quality pics of course you can shoot in raw with it uh which is nice to have if you're a photographer you like shooting in raw it's got a really nice kind of array of cameras on the back of it uh it's got google assistant built in quick gestures and face recognition I really like the facial recognition it's got a thing on it where basically you can take and when say you see you've got a you've got to take in you know you want to check your phone and your phone's locked so basically you can program it to where just by moving the phone, it will put it
Starting point is 00:02:06 into a status of looking for your face. And then once it sees your face, it will unlock the phone for you. So there's no more, you know, trying to find the fingerprint on the back of the phone. There's no more trying to, you know, type in the code and all that kind of crap. It's all gestures and everything else. And you can use the quick gestures to do different things like uh change your music around uh switch music all that sort of good stuff and it's uh fairly programmable which is kind of cool one thing that was really surprising about the phone that i just kind of got taken aback by i use uh hey google a lot and and when i do uh here at the chris fawn show we have like 50 000000 units from Harman Kardon, JBL, and different places that have it built in that, you know, I'll start going, what do you want, Chris? What's really cool about the Pixel is you can actually just squeeze the case.
Starting point is 00:02:59 Like, I'm not even kidding you. The outer case on the bottom part. And you can program different variations of hard to squeeze or whatever you literally squeeze the bottom of the phone and it will activate the google assistant and you can tell it what you want what you need to do how is that for crazy i thought it was pretty awesome uh and uh yeah, it's, it's a really beautiful, good looking phone. Uh, and the night sight on the camera, holy crap. It's got a feature called night sight. And, um, basically it takes photos that almost look like, uh, you took them during the day.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Uh, not really, but you know, I, we went out and took photos in complete and utter darkness and you could see really good detail and really good photos being taken with it and so we're really blown away by some of the stuff that went into it this thing on the XL is going to have a screen size of 6.3 inches it's got Corning Gorilla Glass 5 which is supposed to be really good for keeping your phone screen from breaking the size on it is 6.3 inches by 2.9 by 0.3 inches in depth or width i gotta tell you it feels like a nice thin light phone it doesn't feel bulky to me in any way like some of the notes do and it feels really comfortable you do want to definitely get a case for this because one thing
Starting point is 00:04:25 i noticed it's very slippery because it's so thin and it's so light and it just wants to slide right on my hands um so make sure you get a case for this baby plus you've got this big camera array on the back that you want to take and protect resolution for the xl is 1440 by 3040 QHD plus and it's got a rear-facing camera two of them actually there's a 12.2 megapixel 77 degree wide lens and then on top of that there's a different set set up that's 16 megapixel 52 degrees dual camera it's got video camera capture up to of course 4k 4K, video playback, 8-megapixel wide selfie camera. Now, the wide selfie camera is designed to give you that wide sort of shot, so you can get a good thing there. Battery is about 3,700 milliamp hour batteries, which should give you talk time up to 29 hours.
Starting point is 00:05:19 Standby up to 14.3, audio playback on speakers up to 66 hours or headset 69. It's got wireless charging built into it so you don't have to plug it in. You can take and do that as well. One thing that was interesting about the charging is they have, of course, a USB-C plug in the phone, but what they sent me in the box was a USB-C at both ends, and they sent a little charger plug with it to to plug that into but basically this is something you plug into your computer on a usbc thing to charge it uh it's not the old usb sort of plug-in now they did send a converter for that so that was good as well it's got a qualcomm snapdragon 855 adreno and this is the thing it's got two chips Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and an Adreno 640 GPU That's a cores at two point eight four gigahertz plus
Starting point is 00:06:12 1.78 gigahertz 64 octa-core so it gets pretty fun in there with all the stuff the internal memory course like we mentioned before 64 128 gigabytes was 6 gigabytes of RAM Another great thing this has got the Android system 10 on it And so you can get the updates from Android as they bring out their future indoor in updates really nice and What else Bluetooth technology on it is 5.0? Which is good to have you want to have that latest stuff as well. Comes with some of the different preloaded apps from AT&T, AT&T Call Protect, and AT&T TV. So that way you can, you know, if you're like me, you get all those crazy spam, you know, calls that are trying to, you know, get you to send them money for whatever and, you know, all that stuff.
Starting point is 00:07:04 So it's a beautiful phone, very elegant. I've been impressed with it. It's super fast. The gesture thing I really like, being able to squeeze the case so I don't have to always say the hey G word. I won't say that because I won't have to do everything in my office. But just being able to squeeze the bottom of the phone and get that to do it, being able to move the phone and then look at it,
Starting point is 00:07:23 and it unlocks the phone. Holy that's really freaking awesome i was really impressed with that uh and it looks really good and it's very simple it's got the cameras in the back with a nice flash for you so you can take and utilize that way uh it's designed to work even in the dark to get you really good shots you can get really good shots of the stars like you can shoot up in the sky with a night sight and you can get star shots it's crazy um and of course you can adjust the exposure you can run pro mode with these things as well uh with the second camera lens portrait mode uh works really good you can get that nice bokeh that you would normally get in a dslr you got zoom in of course uh this is kind of interesting there's a frequent faces
Starting point is 00:08:11 feature to it that learns the people you photograph the most captures top shot photographs where they are smiling and not blinking how's that for technology for you free unlimited storage uh with uh google photos so there you go. It'll all upload. They even had Annie Leibovitz, if you're familiar with her, take a Google Pixel and go out and make some portraits. She did a very interesting job with that. And yeah, I just love being able to grab it. And of course, you can just tell what to do. Hey, take this picture and share with my friend. Really nice that way you can multitask I find it super fast the really neat thing is this gesture
Starting point is 00:08:49 control you can use quick gestures that they have a radar to sense motion built inside of it holy crap your your phone is now a submarine it helps you control your pixel for when you're running on treadmill and enjoying your favorite tacos without touching your phone. You know, we've all had those moments where you don't want to touch your phone because, you know, maybe you're eating or doing something like that. Maybe you're driving along in the car. You don't want to, of course, pick up your phone. You can just wave your hand over it and you can do different things like navigating your music with quick gestures. Allows you to skip songs, et cetera, et cetera.
Starting point is 00:09:23 You can snooze and silence the phone and alarms and do all sorts of different things i love the face unlock feature that's pretty freaking awesome you're guaranteed three years of security and os updates to keep your forum performing its best it's got a titan m security chip that helps you protect your data and it automatically scans apps through google play to make sure you get the best stuff even there. On top of that, holy crap, it will call 911 if you can't. Your phone will sense that you've been in a car accident, car crash detection can reach 911 for you. It's got live view on Google Maps where you can see where you need to go with arrows and directions placed on
Starting point is 00:10:02 top of your world. And it's got a built-in recorder that's designed for transcribing speech and characterizes different types of audio. That means you search your recordings to find the parts that matter to you faster. I'm going to be using this for my book. This sounds like a lot of fun. It comes with different things you can get from the Google Store as well. Or an AT&T store. Pixel stand, pixel cases. Uh,
Starting point is 00:10:26 of course the stand is wireless. There's the pixel USB earbuds you can get from them as well. You can go to AT&T.com and check out all the wonderful things you can, or you can probably go into your local store, et cetera, et cetera. It is going to start shipping on October 21st, uh, 2019. Uh, and, um, or I'm sorry, these are going to be delivering between October 21st, 2019. I'm sorry. These are going to be delivering between October 21st, 2019 and October 28th, 2019. So you can get in, get your baby ordered. A lot of people in my audience were really excited to see that we got in this review. And they're like, how did you get it already?
Starting point is 00:11:01 So thanks to AT&T for always supporting the show and getting this out to us. You'll probably be seeing us using it at places upcoming ces show etc etc anyway that's uh that's the rundown that's my first impression i'm going to play with this for a few more days and we're going to come back and kind of do more of a full review of kind of what my experience is so i just kind of give you the first day first impressions if you will here on the podcast i gotta tell you i really like the phone and i'm kind of excited about the first day, first impressions, if you will, here on the podcast. I got to tell you, I really like the phone, and I'm kind of excited about it. I like being able to get the updates quicker. All my friends that have the Pixels, they always get their updates from Android, and they get all the cool new features than the other phones that have that aren't Google phones.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Let's put it that way. And I'm always so jelly because I'm just like the latest features and updates and so they built a wonderful phone I'm really excited the AT&T now has the pixel and I've been wanting them to get up for years and now they got it so cool this is pretty freaking awesome then we go to AT&T comm check them out if you're interested the phone I think you'll like it it's definitely wonderful I pay right now for monthly for Google Photos so geez what you could maybe save and having Google Photos Unlimited that's that might be worth the money at all all of it is I pay a kind of a lot to save my photos to them but it is a really nice convenient feature and I like how
