Hi, this is Foss here from thechrisfossshow.com.
Hey, come in here with another podcast.
Certainly appreciate you guys tuning in.
You guys are the most wonderful audience in the world.
We're going to cover news this morning on a separate thing.
There's a whole lot of product hunt we want to talk about.
We're going to put that on a next episode for today because there's so much of it that
I want to take and share with you.
So we're going to do news this morning and then afternoon we'll publish another podcast
for product hunt stuff that
we really like there's a whole lot of stuff on there so let's get to the top of the news and
what's going on in our world today uh there's a microsoft's surface hardware event that's going
to be taking place the surface pro 7 surface laptop 3 and some mysterious new hardware
mysterious new hardware on october 2nd they're going to be launching this huge event.
You're going to be able to find out what some of the latest things are.
I know that, I guess Surface Pro 7, I guess it's lasted for seven versions.
Who knew?
I never thought the first version would make it out of the gate, but it's moving along.
Now, there's a Surface laptop.
So, there's that as well. So, well, there always
has been, this is the version three that they're going to be coming out with for those of you who
want to correct me, but yeah, so you can expect some different interesting stuff to be coming out
of that thing. One thing that came, this is from the news yesterday, actually, but it's definitely
important. Twitter is rolling out a filter for potentially offensive DMS. Um, and what you'll
be able to do is set up filters, evidently that you can filter out, uh, potentially offensive
direct messages. What I need on Twitter is to be able to filter out all those people who send me
that hack link that are like, here's a link for you. And they're always trying to get you to click
this link that if you click it, it will hack your account.
And so, of course, it's sent from all the people whose accounts are hacked.
So I'm hoping that's going to be able to have me filter those because I get like 5,000 of them a day.
Not really, but I get a lot of them.
If you look down my DMs, like 95% of them, 99% of them are those hack links like click this link this link is for you you should watch this video and you
know I know as soon as I click those links my link my counts gonna be hacked
to start broadcasting the same sort of nonsense so I hope that this filter is
gonna get kicked into place they claim it's supposed to, uh, curb abuse and, uh,
reply moderation. Uh, but, uh, uh, you know, whatever, it's probably going to be good too.
It's supposed to, it's good to filter. It's supposed to filter offensive direct messages.
So it might be good for people who try bullying or trying to be ugly, or I'm sure a lot of the
ladies can, um, you know, uh, all sorts of, uh of stuff sent to them from jerks who are guys,
some guys who are jerks.
So maybe it will help them out as well.
I don't know why this wasn't put into place sooner,
but this is one of the five million things Twitter should have done like 10 years ago.
But good for them.
They're finally getting around to it.
Hopefully it will work right and be able to uh be able to do
the things you take and want it to do that would be important as well well let's talk about some
of the other news that's the top of the news today uh it's uh in linked audio uh from open
meetings in july mark zuckerberg's he talks about facebook's challenges potential breakup politics
competitors and content moderators.
This is according to The Verge.
You can read it on The Verge.
I believe it's TheVerge.com.
And they actually leaked two hours of leaked audio.
And he rallies Facebook employers against critics, competitors, and the U.S. government.
So this should be pretty interesting.
This probably isn't going to help their fight for a state of monopoly. He rallies Facebook employers against critics, competitors, and the U.S. government. So this should be pretty interesting.
This probably isn't going to help their fight for a state monopoly.
Evidently, the Justice Department and other things are looking into them, state attorney generals.
So this will be kind of interesting to see how this plays out.
And I'm sure it won't help them.
Just Facebook and a lot of Silicon Valley seems to be in this dark cloud of the right wing um politics and i'm just i'm not talking politics i'm just saying this is really
what it is coming for them and uh their monopolistic power um because of uh perceived uh censorship
of conservative sites and things like that whether you believe that or not or whatever
uh there certainly seems to be that you know the shines off of silicon valley where of conservative sites and things like that. Whether you believe that or not or whatever,
there certainly seems to be the shines off of Silicon Valley where everyone used to think they were a beautiful utopia
and do whatever you want, I'm sure you'll save us
from the ugly parts of the world.
And now everything's kind of flipped
and sometimes it seems like the evil they're trying to prevent
is the evil they've become.
I don't know.
It's one of those things where sometimes you just get so big you can't win and you get all the darts.
There's leaked images on the verge of the upcoming Surface Pro 7, the Surface Laptop 3.
It comes in both 13-inch and 15-inch and an ARM-powered Surface 2-in-1 device.
So there you go.
I wonder if they did their own leaking.
That seems to be the smart thing that companies do.
Going to cryptocurrency.
Block.one settles with the SEC for $24 million in penalties
for conducting an unregistered securities of sale.
They raised a $4.1 billion VICO over a one-year period.
Holy crap.
And it looks like the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission
is not putting up with this stuff any longer.
They're going after people.
Let's see.
According to Associated Press,
a former Yahoo engineer has pleaded guilty
to hacking accounts of about 6,000 Yahoo users
in search of sexual photos and videos.
This is another reason, folks,
why you need to have your stuff encrypted,
why you need to be careful what you use, all that good stuff and away you go um this is interesting
i didn't know this was coming out this normally doesn't well it does come out about this time
of year i'm gonna have to talk to my friends at gopro um according to the verge the gopro hero
black review doesn't require special housing for mounts, has even better image stabilization, but the camera gets hot while recording.
That's kind of interesting.
It looks like the Verge is kind of like half and half there.
GoPro has unveiled their 399 Hero 8 Black and 499 Hero Max cameras.
They're available for pre-order today, shipping in October, and three modular add-ons.
This is good.
We review the GoPros every year from the Chris Voss Show.
We've always loved GoPros.
They just do such a wonderful job, at least from GoPro 3 on.
We loved them from GoPro 3 on.
Let's say that.
So if you haven't seen the announcement, you can go check out their website.
It does look really cool, some of the accessories they have that plug into the cameras.
It looks like it has a really cool design.
I'm seeing a front-facing monitoring screen for selfies.
That's kind of interesting.
So there's the 399 Hero 8 Black and the 499 Hero Max.
And 14% lighter than the current Hero 7 Black, which I love.
It's a great camera.
It has a 12-megapixel camera sensor with improved HDR
and improved pictures and video in low-light areas.
It has a new HyperSmooth 2.0 video stabilization.
It's assuming that bumpy video and it looks like the Verge liked it.
It's kind of a really interesting case to it.
And with noise reduction, it can shoot 4K video in addition to slow-mo video.
I got to tell you, I got the, one of my big things, if you've been seeing my channel,
we've been posting a lot with the DJI Osmo Max.
And I really love the experience of it.
And, of course, GoPro has some really, in fact, their GoPro promotional video just kicked on there for me.
So if you're wondering why you're playing videos in the background, I'm reading over the GoPro stuff and somebody popped an ad on me.
So it looks like the Hero Max 2 lenses can record sharper 5.6K video in 360 degrees.
It's got a Max Super view ultrawide camera.
Can live stream in 1080p.
Hubba hubba. And lets people
automatically back up videos and photos to the cloud.
This is exciting. It has six microphones
which offer the
best stereo sound ever.
That's awesome. And there's an
$80 display mod with a 1.9
inch display that can fold to the front
or back of the camera help you better
frame your pictures and videos $50 waterproof light mod and media mod which helps you attach
both the display mod and the light mod on top of your GoPro picture at the top of the story shows
what mods look like yeah I was looking at it's really cool the camera the the monitor can face
you so if you're doing like a selfie shot you can actually see what's going on that is one of the things i've been missing
with the gopro uh which is a challenge but of course you can use the phone for that as well
though you can use the gopro phone app and and be able to monitor but you you're holding two devices
and looking at them unless you can figure out a way to do the whole mounting thing which there's
all sorts of stuff like that so they're going to to be shipping out on October 15th, the Hero 8 Black, and on October 24th,
the Hero Max will ship.
Real excited to check this baby out.
GoPro just makes a wonderful product these days, and I'm always, always super impressed
with them, and we'll look forward to viewing them on the Chris Voss Show.
We've been reviewing them forever, it seems, since GoPro 3. We exclusively used them on the Chris Voss show, recording all the videos we do on YouTube.
So we use the cameras when we travel.
We use the cameras.
So we really like them, and hopefully we'll keep using them in the future and love them in the future.
I'm sure that this product's going to be amazing.
They've just done a really good job of making it better and better and better.
So anyway, what else do we have in the news? Nothing really stuck out at me much. Uh, um, kind of interesting. Some of the things that are out there, Uber is testing a safety
feature to let passengers record and send audio to the company if they are uncomfortable during
a ride. That's interesting. Uh, according to at Wong M. Jane on Twitter.
So Uber is testing record audio in case the rider is uncomfortable with the ride.
So that can give you some better oversight.
I like that idea because I know different exchanges can happen,
especially with women.
There's been things where drivers have hit on women and worse
and made them uncomfortable on the ride.
There's all sorts of worse stories that have gone on as well.
So that's probably good because then there's a record.
There's none of he said, she said anymore.
You can provide a record.
If you remember, the most damning video that was recorded was of their CEO being a real jerk in some uber cars and that was one of the things
that helped uh get him uh to remove from the company uh so that didn't go well for him so you
know be careful if you're a thing microsoft now it's one driver as users expand one tb of storage
in 200 gigabyte increments and launches one drive personal vault i'm interested in this
i'm actually retesting one drive again for some of my backups because i want to see how it works
anyway we're going to be doing a separate show here in a few hours regarding all the product
on stuff that we saw today there's a whole lot of it so there's a whole show we'll cover that
be sure to tune in for that uh be sure to further show to your friends give us great reviews and
check in often thanks for tuning in we'll see you next time
