Happy New Year to you, Happy New Year to you.
Happy New Year folks.
That's not the New Year song, that's the birthday song.
I can do whatever I want.
I call it political license.
Welcome to the Chris Voss Show folks.
The Chris Voss Show podcast.
Now in it's Jesus Christ 11th year.
I feel old uh so welcome welcome my friends to the new year it is january 1st 2020 and this year we're uh uh committing again to uh
bang out tons of content for you guys great Great content on the Chris Fascio podcast.
Got a ton of stuff coming up for CS.
Let's kind of recap what we did and where we went.
Uh,
this last year was our biggest year for the podcast and production content
interviews and everything else we did.
Uh,
so if you didn't notice,
holy shit,
go back and see it.
We purposely make sure that you have, I think it's about 300 episodes.
You can still access the way we build it out and share it.
Some people ship less, we ship a whole lot more.
So if you want to go back and search through some great content, it's there, baby.
Um, and, uh, looks like what we did this year, uh, was we did about 150 to 164 episodes.
I didn't get a chance to count through all the mixed numbering of stuff,
but it's basically 150 to 164.
Those are the ones that got published.
There was a whole lot of ones that were either in the can and not publishable,
either for quality's sake, uh i think there's some people
that we we clawed back yeah there actually was now that i think about it there's some people
we claw back because they're just evil hateful people and we didn't like them after uh we found
out more about them and went wow uh you know we don't really want that or associate with those
people so we actually clawed some back so there you go
so actually probably was more come to think of it now um and there was some that we uh did
that we tried to do let's put it that way there was a lot of podcasts that we did where you know
we tell people hey man when you come to the podcast bring a good mic. Test your computer. But don't show up on Wi-Fi.
Show up with a landline.
I have a laptop.
I have an Apple laptop that's really good.
Plug it into a Wi-Fi.
Hardwire it.
You're making a video or an audio thing that's going to last the next 20 fucking years, hopefully, on my channels.
Do it right.
Make a difference.
This isn't a phone-in.
In fact, I remember one episode this year that was really bad.
And the guy was just phoning it in.
He was sitting back in his chair just like,
I don't give a fuck about anything.
And I was just like, wow, okay,
this podcast is going to be real successful results for you.
It's interesting to me, people think that,
and I've talked to people that are in radio and podcasting about this.
There are people that think that they can just show up
and do a shitty job and presentation,
and somehow because of our reach and our audience,
our audience is going to be like, wow, that was amazing.
I'll buy anything they sell.
That's not how it works, people.
All we do is we give you a little box to stand on, a little soapbox.
You can go stand in the corner and you can be like, hey, this is my shit.
Come buy it.
Whether it's ideas or products or any of that stuff, that's what it is.
And we can't sell you if you suck
on air, we can't sell you. So that's your problem on ours. Uh, so let's kind of recap the year.
Uh, we, I, I tried to, you know, every year and I gotta be honest with you every year,
I've had this goal of like putting out uh a daily business podcast where we
do 200 podcasts uh we do it every single day um and this year we got close we got uh to about 164
published episodes uh and i think if you count the there might be another 10 in the can that we
that we either put in the can never published or or, uh, we clawed back, uh,
cause we didn't like the people. Um, there, there were, I think there were probably some that we
clawed back because the, the audio and video was just so awful from there, you know, coming in on
a wireless connection, you know, they're like, I'm like, I'm like, hey, man, we can't hear your audio and video very well. That's because I'm at the top of a mountain and I decided to do the podcast calling from there.
It's like, yeah, seriously, dude, you thought this was a good idea?
Yeah, I'm sure the Wi-Fi is really good on Everest.
OK, man, where are you?
I'm in the middle of the fucking Sahara, I'm getting one bar,
anyway, you get the picture, so that was the year, let me just, I'm going off the top of my head here, trying to think of the podcast that stood out to me this year, the most recent one, of course,
I always love having him, it was Gary Shapiro, the and CT and, and president of CTA. And of course he runs the CES show.
Some of my good friends that were on the show, you know who you are, my good Facebook friends.
Uh, I actually had a lot of good Facebook friends on this year. Uh, Scott Monty was on,
I loved the episode with Scott Monty. He went to the episode with Scott Bonney he went balls
deep with just an intellectual analysis of a lot of different things I thought
our conversation about the Sasha Baron Cohen speech in front of the
anti-definition anti-def poignant. Uh, we had two different podcasts
that covered that. Uh, I had a lot of friends on just anybody who's my Facebook friend who was on
this year. I love their, uh, appearance on the podcast and they, they usually brought something
pretty good. Brad Goss. I remember came on the show. That was a lot of fun to have him. He's
just a funny guy. And he keeps being funny.
Holy crap.
He keeps getting worse in a funny sort of way.
But good, if that makes any sense.
His funny craziness.
And he's wacky as shit.
But he's a good man.
And a few other people.
I can picture their faces in my mind.
But since I'm blabbering away, I guess I can't multitask names.
So thanks to all those people who came out.
I believe there's Mark and John and Luke and Matthew.
What the fuck?
They all came out.
And if you haven't, now's a good time to go back and listen to all those episodes.
So we had a great year for the podcast.
We had hundreds of thousands of downloads this year,
great ad sales for it.
And our goal this year, and I think I started to say this
before I segued off it, our goal every year is to do 200 episodes,
basically 200 business days of episodes almost
every day and i fail it every time but this is the year i got really close i got really close
in fact if i had it kind of slum let past two weeks over christmas i would have been close uh
but uh you know i've been busy with cesES, so, you know, and Christmas and eating
cookies and turkey and crap.
Anyway, you get the idea.
You're probably busy doing that instead of listening to me.
So, um, so this year we're going to try and hit to at least 200 plus, uh, episodes, a
business episode, an episode for every business day, basically.
And I'm going to try and overshoot that because one of the problems I have is sometimes
when I get a little burnt and I take a little vacation,
I get behind.
And so we want to start out strong and start out ahead.
So guess what?
You're going to think I'm crazy,
but I've set some goals for this year.
And instead of my young days,
when I started saying this earlier,
instead of my old days where I drink and party all night
and then wake up January 1st with a huge hangover,
it's 3 a.m.
I took a nap earlier today, and that's why I'm up.
And somebody was supposed to appear on the podcast.
They didn't appear.
They got their schedules changed, so I didn't get my early nap,
so I took a late nap.
What is he telling us his nap schedule?
Is this the nap podcast?
No.
So it's 3 a.m., and so what I'm doing is I'm fulfilling my first resolution.
I'm fulfilling my first resolution of saying, okay, here's action action here's put it to work and all that good stuff so um with that foundation laid with that little foundation 10 minute
foundation laid nine nine eleven nine twelve uh minutes in uh let's talk uh about some ideas
that you guys can have to, uh, ring in the new
year and build a new life.
Maybe, you know, this is a good time for just kind of, it's a good time for cleaning house.
I used to hate new years because I'm like, why do we have to wait till the new year every
year to figure out what's fucking broken on the look back and try and make better plans.
Why don't you just do that in fucking August, you know, I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm a shitty person right now, but I'm gonna wait till New
Year's, and then I'm gonna change, until then, I'm just gonna keep being shitty,
that's not a way to live, no, don't do it that way no stop don't no means no um so uh
i'm gonna i'm gonna pull from some different websites and we'll talk about i'm just gonna
give you some ideas some concepts to work from and i'm just gonna lay some seeds if you will
johnny apple seed take a little walk through your brain here. Or both our brains. This is a journey
together. We're holding hands. We're going to walk down the beach here and rub our toes in the sand,
maybe dabble in the water a little bit and see the sunlight, soak up the rays,
smell that beautiful breeze of life, and maybe we can make a better life. Let's, let's, uh,
let's see where this journey takes us down this wormhole. Uh, Chris, can you just get to the
fucking point without setting up the sediment? Come on, man. All right. So here's some, here's
some ideas. I'm not telling you you should do all these things because I'm going to give you a whole
mess of stuff and you just kind of, you just kind of pick what works for you.
What finds your passion?
What motivates you?
What gives you a hard-on in life?
And I mean a hard-on as in like a hard-on.
Anyway, so here's some ideas.
Define your priorities.
So take a look.
Sit down.
Look back on the last year.
Look on the next year.
Define your priorities. What's important to you, look on the next year, define your priorities.
What's important to you?
What's the focus?
Fill up your schedule.
Look at your yearly calendar.
This is the problem I have.
I only look on the very short term.
I don't look forward a year and go like, what am I doing this whole new year?
I'm getting better at that.
I'm getting better at knowing what my shows are, what to do, scheduling, all that sort of good stuff.
List your projects for the
year big projects you want to take and accomplish goals etc etc and find your
why and theme so what is the why behind your goals like everybody always goes
like I want to make more money this year for New Year's why what's why does it
make it important to you I think that's really smart.
Um, and I should put this plug in here. I'm sorry. I forgot to, I forgot to plug it. Uh,
it's at Laura Sue Shaw.com, Laura Sue Shaw.com. So, um, put, put down the why, because you know,
that I think that's why a lot of people probably fail the resolutions is because they,
they don't really sell it to themselves.
You got to sell it, that heart and soul.
You got to bleed it, man.
You got to sweat it.
You got to be like, this is my passion.
I think we all can agree.
Anything we're really passionate about seems to motivate us a lot better.
So there you go.
Establish good habits.
Good habits to achieving goals. So, you know, start doing them, you go. Establish good habits. Good habits to achieving goals.
So, you know, start doing them, you know.
You got to, you know, to eat the elephant sometimes for resolutions you make,
you've got to, you know, take it one bite at a time.
And then one day you wake up and you go, I ate a whole elephant.
Now I have to pee and poop.
That's going to be a big poop unless you
have my metabolism I just burn all create a schedule for your goals for
what you want to do well and block out of time for working on I think wow
that's really smart block out of time to work on your goals maybe you should do
like Fridays or gold day or something. And the goal on Friday shouldn't be downing a bottle of vodka.
Unless you're me when I was young.
Be realistic about your goals.
Don't make them too crazy.
Don't make them too out there where they seem unreachable.
And you're like, oh, man, why did I say I was going to become a billionaire
in the next three months on New Year's?
Oh, this seems kind of hard.
Daddy, you have any money?
Wait.
Give yourself grace.
Don't be hard on yourself if you fail.
You know, I put out a thing to my niece and nephew this year,
trying to inspire them.
They're at the point where they're starting their lives.
They're starting to become adults.
They're getting ready to spread their wings and leave the nest.
And so I put a thing out to them,
kind of giving them a rundown on what i think they should remember as they go through the course of
their life and hopefully they'll keep it and look back on it someday and and be like look what
stupid said um look at that old ass uncle who was weird. No, hopefully someday it inspires him.
So I listed a bunch of stuff.
You know, one of the problems you have, not to get off on a segue, but I just did.
And I think I might have segued again.
Let me go back.
Put the car in reverse.
One of the problems we have in life is kids don't get an owner's manual.
No one gets an owner's manual, it seems.
You know, parents kind of give you a little bit of like well here's the hallway you just kind of stay within these
kind of guidelines but no one ever says like here's the shit that you know you should probably
think about as you deal with everything so i gave them kind of like that rundown and stuff so uh
there you go uh laura sue shaw.com check out her website. She's got some really interesting stuff.
You can get into some of the more details there
of all that thing.
Another website I found that I liked
that stuck out to me
was a website called
DaringToLiveFully.com
Fully.com
The fully in the moment.
Be present.
All that good stuff.
I encourage you to go
get The power of
now by Eckhart Tolle what a great book well I mean it changed my life saved my
life when I was going through a really hard time with loss and death of my dog
with cancer so I highly recommend you take and do that so daring to live fully So daringtolivefully.com, there's a gal who runs it called Marilisa Fabrega.
I'm not sure if I'm pronouncing that correctly.
And she has posted.
She's a Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center.
Wow, that's pretty smart.
She has put up a post called 36 Prom to help you plan your new year. Um,
let's see. So let's go through the prompts and, uh, and hopefully I'll give you some new ideas
for planning your new year. Uh, number one, one habit that I'm going to build. Now, I like what
she did here. You're going to hear the word one a lot because she just identified just one habit I want to rebuild.
Or I'm sorry, I want to build.
One habit I want to build.
And so I like that because you're not trying to eat the elephant all at once with one of the little sporks from KFC.
Can you imagine?
I'm thinking about that in my head.
I'm like, how many cuts does it take to get
to the center of a tootsie tootsie elephant um so think of one habit you're gonna build now it's a
build habit so you gotta go put the work in for that number two one habit that i'm gonna break
i'm gonna quit cutting people's heads off and putting them in the fridge, Jeffrey Dahmer. There you go.
There's a good habit to stop.
Don't ask me where that reference from.
A friend of mine joking about it.
Oh, yeah.
I had a friend.
I'll give you a segue on this one.
I had a friend who goes to Burning Man.
We were talking the other night because I'm going to see him at CES, and he's talking about how they have a shrunken head area, you know, Burning Man has all these
like little camps, so they have a shrunken head camp, and they teach you how to shrink
heads and make voodoo dolls, and like the guy always has a case of heads with him i was like dude somebody showed up around me with
a case of heads i'd be like i'll be like holy shit jeffrey dahmer too run that's what i'm
thinking i'm sticking to it can you imagine getting pulled over and uh by the cops they're
like yeah we just got to check your car for drugs they opened the trunk and there's like a whole
case of fucking heads in there and you're just like like, hey, man, it's my job.
I do this Burning Man thing.
And they're like, yeah, you need to, you know, we need to take you in.
Because we need to figure out whose heads these are.
I mean, what can you say?
Some people like more head.
Others don't.
There you go.
Number three, one person that I'm going to forgive.
I think this is really important.
Forgiveness.
Forgiveness.
Especially if you're religious and you espouse the teaching of Jesus Christ.
I remember reading the Bible.
He was into that sort of stuff.
So live your truth.
Speak your truth.
Live your truth.
There you go.
So forgive somebody. know maybe and maybe
that most important person is to forgive yourself how about that one i had an interesting year this
year uh i won't get into the details of it you can if you read me on facebook you've probably
seen some of it and it it kind of doesn't fit with what we're doing right here but let me just
say this after 40 years I got a chance to
speak my truth on something. And in doing so, I was able to forgive myself. So I'm telling you
from the heart, if you need to forgive yourself, go ahead and forgive yourself. Let it go, okay?
And remember, the only secrets you keep are poison, so don't keep them.
Just speak your truth and be true to yourself.
So if you need to forgive yourself, forgive yourself.
And if you need to forgive other people's, that's a good idea too.
I've done that a lot lately.
I've always done it, but, you know, there it is,
especially if they're willing to apologize.
Number four, one person I'm willing to befriend or reconnect with.
So there you go.
Work on your relationship connections.
One way I'm going to strengthen my personal relationship, that's always good.
Take a look at your wife's, husband's, significant others, people in your life,
things that are important to you.
Maybe it's your child.
Maybe it's your parent.
You know, sit down and say, how can I make this better?
There's always a way to prove everything I always say.
One thing that I'm going to create.
So list something you're going to create.
Number eight, one negative belief I'm going to drop.
Take a look at your belief systems.
What I believe, why I believe, and how I believe it.
Maybe I'll drop it.
One positive belief I'm going to reinforce one healthy food I'm gonna start eating
there's one for me one book I'm going to read that's very important you want to
read otherwise you end up ranting on Twitter all day long at your golf course.
One new place I'm going to visit.
So pick a new place to go visit.
Go to some strange fucking places, people, and learn some new strange shit.
One adventure I'm going on.
There you go.
One hobby I'm going to try.
One personal development goal I'm going to achieve.
One physical goal to try to achieve. One new food I'm going to achieve. One physical goal to try to achieve.
One new food I'm going to try.
One fear I'm going to overcome.
One risk I'm going to take.
One thing I'm going to throw out.
Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.
That's always a good one.
One thing I'm going to save for and purchase.
One way I'm going to make more money,
one expense I'm cutting out,
one way I'm going to stop wasting my time,
one skill I'm going to learn a skill, new skills,
one class I'm going to take or workshop I'm going to attend,
one way I'm going to make myself indispensable at work,
that's always important because once they don't need you,
they usually show you the door, one thing thing and it makes you better for other doors if they were to slam you the door anyway one way i'm going to make myself indispensable at work uh one thing i will no
longer tolerate one way i'm going to keep my energy health one way in which i'm going to make
the world a better place boy i like that one
that was nice one bucket list item i'm crossing off so go get a bucket list uh item and cross it
off one way i'm going to follow my bliss or i would say find your passion so there's 36 units
of hopefully some inspiration some some ideas, some concepts.
We have concepts, Chris.
Some concepts on how to be a better person and change your life, hopefully.
Anyway, I wish you well.
It's the new year.
