Hi, this is Foss here from thecrisfossshow.com.
Come here with another podcast.
We certainly appreciate you guys tuning in and giving us some love.
We love you.
And we appreciate your support of the show.
Be sure to refer the show to your friends, neighbors, relatives if you would.
Holy crap, they can get on so many different platforms.
There's Luminary, iHeartRadio, Spotify.
We got a ton of followers on Spotify.
Holy crap.
There's Google Play, of course, for your Android device.
iTunes.
And, geez, somebody just the other day, they told me they signed up on TuneIn.
There's Spreaker.
There's another one that starts with S.
There's Spreaker.
And then there's, anyway, we're everywhere.
You can see all the different places we syndicate.
Player FM on thecvpn.com, thechrisvosspodcastnetwork.com.
You can go there and you can see the other six wonderful podcasts that we do
and check those out as well and sign up to their syndicated realms.
If you're interested in appearing on the Chris Voss Show podcast,
be sure to email the podcast, get in contact with me some way.
You can find me everywhere on the interwebs.
So do that if you will.
If you want to come on the podcast, we can take a look and see if you might be a worthy guest.
So let's talk about some business stuff.
This is going to be kind of interesting.
Oh, the other thing, if you don't mind me asking, I certainly appreciate you guys listening to my little promos here. If you get a chance,
can you go to iTunes and Google Play and give us a great review if you feel we're worthy of it?
I wouldn't ask you to do that unless you feel we're worthy of it. So if you do like what's
happening or if you want to make an investment in our future and help us invest in our future monetarily-wise,
help us share the show, help get good reviews for it, if we're worthy of that.
And we'll buy more great mics, more studio stuff, and everything else.
Speaking of mics, we want to thank MXLMics.com for sending us some great mics,
a wonderful boom.
You've probably seen it in some of the videos.
You've probably seen it on Facebook where I've been doing this KVOS pop-up channel, K-V-O-S.
And if we find good material that I put due on that, it's kind of a funny screw-around sort of live stream
that I do on Facebook Live to promote the podcast.
But if I find some good material and we put it on the podcast, you may see some of those funny things.
Anyway, be sure to check out their mics there.
They have some great podcasting packages and specials, et cetera, et cetera.
There's also someone we want to thank.
For five years now, I've been loving my Master and Dynamic MH40s,
and we've been reviewing some of the other cool things.
The MW65s, they put out the active noise-canceling headphones.
There's also some earphones that we take and put out.
We've been reviewing on the show, and they're really interesting too,
some little earbuds that they take and make.
Let me see if I can reach over here and figure out what these are.
These are Master Dynamics MW07.
If you haven't seen these,
they are extraordinarily beautiful.
They come in like a mini aluminum case
that's just really beautiful.
Kind of reminds you of those suitcases
that you see in the James Bond movies.
And they have about, I think,
five or six or seven different colors
that are just extraordinary when you take a look at.
They're true wireless earphones.
So be sure to check those out.
You go to masterdynamic.com.
I've got to tell you, I love my MH40s.
I love my NW65s.
It's one of my favorite Bluetooth ANC active noise-canceling headphones,
and I love the new earphones.
So check those out as well.
I've had mine for five freaking years the
one you've seen me on all my videos five freaking years um there were 400 bucks originally there i
think they're still 400 now and they are well worth it not only in the highest quality of sound
that i found in consumer headphones but also um in lasting five years. Holy crap. I remember years ago, people laughed at it and went,
four year phones, I'm going to last five years, people.
So they were nice enough to replace them so we could get some of those going on.
So be sure to check them out.
Anyway, let's get into some business lessons we want to talk about today.
This one's a big one.
This one you could probably call how let's see how to lose some of your most
loyal customers that have stuck with you for 10 plus years defended your reputation defended your
product stood by you through thick and thin and you manage to blow them away after 10 years.
How to lose your most loyal customers.
This is a lesson on how to do this.
Now, for years, I'd been a loyal GoDaddy subscriber fan.
All my websites have been there.
All my domains have been there.
All that sort of good stuff.
I've gotten tons of crap over the years.
The elephant thing with the CEO was,
oy vey, that was really hard to stick with them through that uh fortunately you know he moved off
um the uh the expense of being with godaddy is definitely a prime premier expense compared to
some of the other different competitors in the market the ch Chris Voss Show has been hosted on GoDaddy now for
10 years. In August, the Chris Voss Show will be 10 years old, and I think the podcast
preceded that, and so did the GoDaddy, of course, for some of my other websites.
But for 10 years, I've been on GoDaddy, and I've been a loyal supporter over the years as the competitors have come out and offered better service pricing, etc., etc.,
and many times half of what the pricing that I'm paying for parking domains at GoDaddy and everything else.
And I've got to tell you, the reason I'm doing this post, too, is because people have known me for 10 years as being an avid defender of GoDaddy I get shit from all my friends who are site managers and everything
else they're like oh GoDaddy sucks and Oh God a daddy this and oh they charge
you like 50 billion dollars and oh I had a horrible experience the customer
service for 10 years I've had nothing but great experience with GoDaddy
service in 2012
I even did a video about how they saved me on Christmas Day and they gave me a
gift on Christmas Day where I had been horribly hacked and the site was beyond
repair and saving and I called him up and said hey man my sites down and they're like you you're
really screwed we're not even sure we can get your database back man and and
they gave me a gift and they saved my butt I put out a big blog post telling
them thank you over the years I've had all sorts of problems that I've taken
self creative the site you know one of my worst crimes is usually being too confident my site and not backing up
before update a plug-in you know how that ends those who do websites you know
how that ends um always back up your WordPress before you update any plug-in
no matter how trusting you you're like that plug-in has never caused any
fucking problems on it I'll just go ahead and hit that update button fucking
I'm lazy today yeah that day that day your sites going down and it's gonna get
much someone's gonna hack in through the back of that damn thing I've had so many
times where I've updated a plug and I didn't do a backup and I'll look at the
front page on my website and I'll be like yeah everything's still working
there looks fine and then and then like I got an email from somebody and they're
like have you tried clicking on any of your like back you know your pages and
your directory and stuff like the front
works but when you click on any of the posts goes to a 404 yeah now I'm not
like a super nerdy like WordPress back-end or I can build WordPress I can
do a lot of different things but I'm not a coder. I can do a little bit of coding on the back end,
but I can't just be like,
I'm just going to build a WordPress site from scratch, that sort of shit.
Normally, what I'm doing when I'm calling up GoDaddy
is I'm asking him to shut off my plugins and everything else and I've
been a multi-site for a long time so that has never ever ever ever ever let
me clarify ever been an issue when I've called GoDaddy help so so I took in so
for 10 years I've defended them and on facebook i've gone man i
really like them on facebook and then i just get shit on by uh all my friends are like they're
sucking whatever and you know for a long time their customer service has been so nice to me
so helpful and so wonderful and some of the jams i got there's one time where i pretty much screwed
the database so hard by doing a database update after i installed some plugins that just munched
everything and then i did a restore over the top of it which just shred the site to a point there
like your site sites probably gone
and you're gonna have to go into the database and make these changes and if
you fuck it up your eight years or seven years of business are gone and they help
walk me through it they help me bring the site back. There's been, there's been a lot of those times over 10 years, let me tell you. So, so I took in,
I have loved GoDaddy. I've supported them. When I called the customer service, they've been
really freaking helpful. I've heard of people, you know, my, some of my friends, they were like,
we've had horrible experiences. I'm like, well, maybe you're just an asshole when you call him up because when I call him up I'm nice I'm respectful I I you know I beg a
little I grovel and beg a little like please help me my sights are really
fucked up and yeah I mean you get what was the old saying you get more you
catch more flies with honey or something.
So anyway, and so I've just always been like, I don't know what experience you people are having.
And, you know, I've had people say to me, gee, you're paying premium prices.
And I'm like, you know what?
I'm a loyal freaking customer because this is the thing that you find in business.
There are clients that will stick with you and you may have higher prices.
And see, that's really important because a lot of people, when they approach business,
they're like, we have to have the lowest prices just to get business. No, you fucking don't.
You just have to provide good customer service. You have to provide an exceptional product.
And if you do that, you can create higher higher margins higher profitability and loyal fucking customers
there's a lot of shit junk i can buy that's built in japan that is cheaper on amazon say i go to buy
a product to amazon yeah it might be cheaper but you know i mean i think some of the different
websites that people told me to move my sign on from GoDaddy. I'm not sure they're around anymore. So there's that. Um, but when you have a loyal customers, uh, it's real, real
important. You keep them and you keep them happy. And usually you do that through customer service
and extraordinary customer service. In fact, if you want to hear, uh, some good examples of that,
listen to the recent podcast about four or five podcasts back where I talk about how I kept clients for 10 to 20 years with my companies because I was willing to give them extraordinary customer service, especially when we failed.
I give them like a whole month's worth of business.
I'd just be like, you know what?
Next month is free on me.
And they'd be like, that's a lot of money Chris and
I'm like you know what the money I'm gonna make over you from you monthly
from 10 to 20 years is nothing compared to giving you that month for free and if
that will make you happy and that will state to you how important you are as a
customer to me that's what we're doing and I'm gonna eat it and they're just
like wow this guy really fucking cares about her business that's how you do business
that's how you keep great clients and if people love you they'll stick with you
and you know so maybe why I stick with Kodak for so long I was like I don't
really want to have to go deal with learning a new company and learning a new thing.
And there are people like, yeah, but you're paying like double or more for, you know, just parking your domains.
And I'm like, you know what?
It's just, I know they're going to be there tomorrow.
I really like companies that are going to be there tomorrow that aren't going to be like, hey, we're shutting down.
And you're like, really?
When?
Like now.
And that happens a lot in tech companies companies I get those emails all the time yeah we got a lot of good
response we started but now we're out of business like I really want somebody's
got a lot of money it's gonna be around for a while so uh so I've stuck with GoDaddy so I pulled a bad staff who with my database I had
backed it up and originally when I set up the Chris Voss show I set up the
WordPress wrong and I made a secondary WordPress underneath WordPress and then
I went in and didn't use that and then and then and
then set the WordPress the way I wanted to but I left that in there so now it's
like a fucking mess and then so I have to be really careful I just back up both
of them just just like whatever everything's backed up so then I created
a multi-site, which is stupid,
unless you're really a professional.
And that thing's a nightmare.
I've never untangled it.
And so every time I called GoDaddy for a long time,
they've been up my shit about how I guess I'm on one of their classic servers,
what they call their legacy servers, which really pisses me off and they're like yeah you have to take in we need to have you if you want to take your php
higher uh so you can have better security faster speed all that shit you gotta you gotta move this
thing over to one of their other servers which really pisses me off like why the fuck can't you
just move me and they always want
you to pay for it and for years i've been like yeah yeah okay i'll get around to it you know
i just really don't i just really don't want to fuck with the site the site works fine
uh maybe it's not the fastest serve in the world but it works and they want a bunch of money to
move it um yeah i could probably move it myself, but man, you know,
the problem is, is that site goes down. Like I have, I have people calling me going, Hey man,
we were going to send you some money today because we want to be on your site and buy some ads and
shit, but your site's down. So fuck you. Um, and it hurts. So I can't have that site down for a long periods of time
people seem to notice so anyway I bought it up I I decide that I you know
normally I'll do a backup all up all all all update a plug-in and then I'll go
check the site see everything's working do a, do a backup, yada, yada, yada.
Every now and then, maybe two or three backups or two or three updates, then check the site.
It's okay.
Then do a backup.
And that's usually if they're the higher class sort of plug-ins, the ones you can kind of trust.
I've got one that's by, I think, WordFence.
They're usually always pretty good. You know, they know their shit. Um, and so, uh, I, I moved
and I've been behind and like, there was like six, I think plugins that needed updating.
And I'm just like, you know, my site's been working really well. And this is where you
always get fucked. My site's working really well. It'll I'm just gonna fuck it just update them all at once like I clicked them all and just
hit the update all button never fucking do that never never do that if you have
a WordPress site now I did back it up okay so I only problem is I backed up
both websites the original web WordPress that I screwed up, and I also backed up the main site.
So I go through and update those things, and I have something happen that I have never fucking had happen before.
Never happen before. Never happened before.
One of the plugins starts sucking
so many fucking resources out
and slowing the site down
that the six other podcast sites
for all the podcasts that are on the same hosting
actually get fucked up from this one plugin.
It starts pulling the resource
where all my other podcasts
websites all six of seven of them total are just moving slow like super slow and
at first I don't really notice on the Chris Voss show I'm like well that's
kind of moving slow maybe it's you know whatever somebody's having a hiccup or
some or whatever I'm getting a bad feed from GoDaddy or something so I don't really
think about it much I'm just like whatever it's my internet or something
so I go to one of the other podcasts that I have and notice the WordPress
needs to get updated and I and that little voice in my head goes you
shouldn't update this podcast right now because it's so slow it's probably going to time
out then it's going to fuck up the wordpress update you moron but no nah man i'm feeling
real confident feeling feeling punchy feeling you know like hey let's go for it
let's everything's been going fine i haven't had the website crash in like months or a year
feeling really confident believing in my in my website you idiot so I go ahead and update the
WordPress and it's taking so long to do it it crashes that WordPress site well guess what that happens next that crash and the resource uh drag from
some plug-in that decides to just turn hulk on its resource suck shuts down all seven
websites with a 503 yeah great yeah like i'm asking my friends to check it and i'm calling in calling in for the help favors
of my website friends and they're just like dude it's just like a white page it doesn't even say
fucking 503 man you're so fucked right now so i'm panicking because everything is fucking down
and nothing's responding I'm going in
checking stuff checking my HT access file see if it's been hacked I'm trying
to figure out what the fuck is going on I can knock it in the back end of my
website at all or any of them and I'm just looking at white pages like I'm
letting it 404 I'm not even 503 it's just white fucking pages
so i call up go daddy now i've called go daddy 24 hours a day sometimes in the middle of night
when shit's not working there's always somebody there who's like helps me and i can't figure out
how to get i'm just like i don't know what's going on, man,
and so I call up the guy, and he goes, yeah, man, you got a plug-in that is bleeding the fuck out of the whole hosting package, and I can't figure out what it is, so I'm talking to him,
he's a nice guy, but I can tell he doesn't know what he's doing, he says he's been there for
years, but I can tell he doesn't know what he's doing, he's like, I don't know where to look in
the right directory for you.
I'm like, what the fuck, dude?
For 10 years I've been calling you people.
You guys always know where to look.
I'm the one who doesn't know where to look.
And then he goes, you know, and they try and sell me shit.
Now, I've never had this happen for the first time.
I have it happen where they try to get me to move from the legacy servers to the new ones to get the better PHP.
I have had them try to sell me lately more of the SSL certificates, which is fine.
You know, I think I kind of need that shit.
But he says, you know what?
I think you're going to have to pay somebody to fix this.
You're going to have to pay like there's some service they pay where they look at a bunch of shit and stuff.
And I'm like, dude dude come on man like you can't and the more i'm talking to him the more he's just like i'm looking around i can't figure i'm trying to turn off your plugins and i'm like yeah man
most times it's always the plugins can you turn those off for me can you disable them for me
because i don't know what i don't know which which you plug in I can disable them but it's like one at a
fucking time and I'm just like hey man can you turn those off maybe those are
it and so he's telling me this trip about how the resources sucking out the
websites and I'm like fuck I've never seen this before I don't even know what
to do with this and he's like yeah we're trying to figure out which one it is and
and then he goes and talks to a friend, which always tells me, yeah, you don't know what you're doing, do you, man?
So the more I'm talking to him, the more I'm just like, he's a nice guy.
He's trying to upsell me on service and having me pay their professionals to look at.
And I'm like, come on, man.
I've been a loyal customer for 10 years.
I called in here. You guys always bail me out he's like oh and
then he finds out I have a multi site right and it becomes like oh man yeah I
could disable your plugins but oh man you got a multi site I came and touch
those things like come on man I've been calling in for ten years ten fucking
years you guys been able to shut off my plugins.
You can't at least do that.
He's like, oh, man, I don't want to get in trouble.
And I'm like, I've been calling him for 10 years.
He actually fucking tells me that they've had this policy now for two to three years
that they can't turn off my plugins, which is total fucking bullshit.
It's bullshit.
So finally, I just go, just I just say hey man and I've had to do this before with GoDaddy sometimes I just get
somebody who's a noob and I can tell it they're not quite at the par with what
we need to do so I just gotta hang up call maybe call back in a bit but the
whole time he's been pitching me shit which bugs me so I wait a few minutes make another call in so I call in and this
guy is a smart fucking Alec and he's like he goes well I can tell you what
the problem is right away and I go okay what he goes what's your PHP I'm looking
at this here you're running he goes dude I he starts talking fucking down to me
through the whole fucking call like I'm a fucking idiot he goes dude I run like a hundred WordPress
sites or something and uh you know I manage them and stuff and some thinking well you should know
what you're doing and he goes uh he goes it's your PHP you're still running the legacy servers
I can tell you a hundred percent that's what it is you need to transfer you need to pay to have this transferred to the legacy cert you know the non
legacy servers and I'm like really I mean he goes he goes yeah because that's
why that's why the other podcast crashed when you tried to update the WordPress
and I'm like hold on man hold on let me
use some Spock logic on you the WordPress is fully updated on the Chris
Voss show it's been working fine till I fuck with these plugins and you're
telling me the other website that I'm updating to to the same one that's been
working fine on the Chris Voss show is crashing with the PHP he's like yeah man I just don't know how the Chris Voss
show has been working on this time with that version you fucking lying piece of
shit and the whole time he's talking down to me to try and push his shit on
me and get me to buy the transfer over the PHP he's like you know we can put
you in a big package and it just it the
whole thing's a fucking sale process not only that it's not just a kind sale process like i've gotten
from go to a it's a shaming a shaming fucking sale process where he keeps going yeah i've run a lot
of websites and yeah man you know you know i don't i don't know why you're running your stuff what
is wrong with you man why you're running your stuff this way uh you know you I don't, I don't even know why you're running your stuff. What is wrong with you, man? Why are you running your stuff this way? Uh, you know, you should like, like I should know better.
Like I'm like, I don't know. I like, I'm not running around claiming to be the God of WordPress.
Um, you know, I met and hung out with the guy who made WordPress. I'm not anywhere close to that guy,
Matt, what's his face? Uh, Berg, whatever his name. I fuck so dude he's like talking to me like I'm a
fucking five-year-old just shaming me the whole fucking time and I'm like dude
man hey look man you read a lot of websites okay I got it can you just turn
off my plugins because you know I realize this PHP arguments
bullshit he goes on man no man you gotta you got a multi-site oh man so suddenly
it goes from him being like mr. fucking WordPress fucking professional you know
I run a website WordPress sites to oh you have a WordPress I can't find my own
dick sort
of shit he was up you're gonna have to pay like this special package we have
where you got to pay like a hundred hundred 150 bucks and they go through
like a step process and spend your money like they fucking want the you know it's
like 30 bucks for each process or some goddamn thing they're gonna check and he's like really selling it hard and I'm just like fuck
I'm like I'm like look dude okay I get it man I go look man I I can you just
please turn off my plugins just just do that for me let me see if I can kind of
fumble through it from there but just can, can you please, no, can't do it.
See the, you know, and I, and I'm telling them the same thing I told the first guy,
I mean, dude, I've been calling her for 10 fucking years and you guys can always turn off my plugins.
That's always like 99% of the time. That's what it is. And they go, no, man, I don't know where
you get that information. We've been doing this for two or three years this policy and I'm like thinking you're a bullshit liar because I've called in probably
two or three times in the last few years and had you guys disable my plugins so I got off the call
and uh he's completely unhelpful completely shaming me just treats me like shit talks down
to me like shit I won't buy his
products. So he's even more fucking bitchy at me and won't help me at all. So I'm like, fine,
fuck you. Um, so I got the phone call with him. He doesn't even do what the go daddy thing does.
Like most of them on go daddy, they always send the call with like, Hey man, there's going to be
a survey coming out to you. And, uh, can you, you know, if I gave you good service,
can you please give me a good rating? Cause real important to my job. He doesn't even care about
that. He just fucking blows me off. It's the worst fucking shitty customer experience I've
ever had to go daddy. And I can't, well, I can't even think of one before that.
This was the pinnacle and this is the one time and boom. So got stupid guy who was nice i got head shamer dude
and uh so i get off the thing and i'm tinkering with my websites about the only knowledge he
gives me is like here you need to go debug your website and i'm like can you turn on my debugging
can you help me with that i don't know send your own call and debug the article is so fucking ambiguous I have no idea where to put the debugging thing I'm like
going through the file trying to put it on turns out one of the problems I did
is I actually when I did the restore to try and fix the website I restored both
of the things I backed up turns out the second restore that's the fucked up one
it restores over my main site now so it put
like the whole site back to 2017 oh my god so i'm like really fucking freaking out now i may have
lost all that data and i can't figure out what the fuck is going on so so i call up a third time. The guy's semi-nice, semi-helpful.
He gives me a few articles that are also fairly ambiguous on how to turn off your plug-ins.
He's nice.
He goes, yeah, you know, I just don't know, man.
You got a multi-site and you're going to have to buy the product.
But he's nice.
Okay?
He wasn't mean.
Just the second guy was a total fucking dick.
But again, he won't help me. Oh, the other thing I should mention just the second guy was a total fucking dick. But again, he won't help me
Oh, you know, I think I should mention about the second guy the second guy
One of the reasons he was a fucking dick to me is he goes well
I see you just called in in the last 15 minutes to the other guy who told you the same thing and he's shaming me
because I called in again to try and get them to help me. And I'm an asshole,
according to him, for pulling the stunt I did. He literally figures out what I did where I decided
the first guy was not knowledgeable. And he's shaming me now for calling it again. He goes,
you're just trying to find somebody to do this for you and you're not getting it you're not listening to us I was just like what the fuck are you
kidding me and so I think that was the other reason he was a big asshole to me
because I called in again and he goes you didn't even listen the first guy I'm
like what the fuck so mmm so if you're hearing this go daddy you need to find
that kid and fucking fire him.
I wrote the shittiest review on him.
Thank God I have security on my website where you got to go through a whole mess of steps and passwords and two-step stuff and codes and stuff to get to my website.
Because I've been worried that he would go in and hack it after I gave him a bad report.
So, anyway, the third guy, he was nice.
But, you know, he was nice.
And he tried to be helpful
but he's like we really can't do anything chris you've got to pay this extra money to the service
so i got off the call and i'm stuck man everything i've ever had my experience with godaddy
uh is tankless now i don't i i got nothing in the tank, look at my websites, they're fucking gone,
it's just white pieces of shit, I'm trying this debug shit, and that's not working, somehow I'm
not putting it in the right fucking place, and trying to read through some of the instructions
they sent me, nothing's working, so I go in the back of my godaddy website in the file manager FTP sort of
area and I Google and I go alright so logically let's learn some new tricks I
gotta figure out disable these plugins I don't know what to do I don't know what
godaddy usually go to easy flicks like some kind of switch and they all go off
so so I take in Google how to disable plugins to your website right now all my
websites are down seven fucking websites are down so I do restore and realize
that I'm probably been restoring the wrong website the wrong backup the old
backup those original fuck up in the wrong directory.
I didn't even know it was like overlaying my website. So I redo that just to try and make
sure everything's locked in the right place. And then I go in and I, I Google an article on how to
disable your stuff in the FTP. And you basically go in to each plugins folder you type disable period in the name you replace
the name you rename the file and you do that on each fucking plug-in which is
pretty fucking tedious and somehow like whatever go daddy used to do for me is
they just don't flick a switch and suddenly all the plugins will be offline
and suddenly the site was stopped working so I go in I disable all the you know I've spent
probably an hour on calls with these motherfuckers I go ahead and disable
each one of the things and guess what happens ten minutes of doing this is
disabling the website comes up now it's kind of fucked up but turns out it's
because the debugging is still on and i finally had gotten in the right
place so i went and turned that off suddenly the website is perfectly back in place everything's
working except for the parts that need the word the plugins to work because there's like some
navigation in there on one of my websites suddenly all seven podcasts are working. So now what I have to do is go back in and rename all those fucking directories.
So I go and rename all the directories, and all the plugins are deactivated.
But everything's working.
And then so I remember which of the three last plugins that I put in that were kind of the crazy ones that I don't trust the developers very much.
And there's one that I need to have, which is my Blueberry, which is what we use for the podcast.
So I take a risk.
I activate that one.
Everything's going to find.
Here's what's fucking funny.
My website is moving super fucking fast with what I just did by to save on
the plug-in so I there's two plugins that I'm kind of not trusting and I
think we're the fuck up so I'm just not gonna activate them but my website is
not working faster then it worked fucking before I don't know why now I
did lose one post which was a podcast and it was really easy to put back
because I had the data and I had the file.
It had been published. Unfortunately, I just renamed it the same way and it actually stuck
to the, to the stuff I'd put out. So in the end, my website came back. All seven websites came back
10 minutes of fucking work, 10 fucking minutes. That's all godaddy had to give me all they had to fucking do
to keep their fucking 10 year old client paying double to triple prices to park his domains
to park all his fucking websites to park all his clients websites that was all they needed to do
was 10 fucking minutes.
And they could have done it in probably five because they just flick a switch and they're
just like, yeah, it's out.
But I had to go through all this dick shit about your multi-site.
You know what?
You can look at my site and if you have half a fucking brain, you can figure out where
the plugin, there's a folder.
It's called plugins.
It's like not that hard to fucking find.
So by shutting all that shit off, all my websites came up,
they're all working fine, no problems.
They're actually working faster than they were before,
so I don't know what the fuck I did,
but I performed some kind of fucking miracle.
And that's how you lose a 10-year-old customer, a loyal customer who defended you, who wrote blog posts about you, who wrote posts about you, who argued with all the motherfucking competitors, with all the people who offered me to come over there.
Because I'm an influencer.
I get emails from people all the time.
Hey, we just started a company or we've had a company for a few years.
We'd really like you
to come over yeah i'm kind of with godaddy right now and like hey man we really want you because
if we get you you're a big fish and everybody want to come over and we can say hey we got chris
floss and we know you're gonna brag about us like you brag about godaddy so we'll move you for
fucking free right i get that shit all the time, man.
Shit all the time.
I have people that won't pay me to fucking move.
And you know what?
I stick with GoDaddy.
That's how fucking loyal I was.
I was.
So a couple lessons here. Number one, never shame your clients that's good
that's always a good idea it's not a way to get people stick with you or
appreciate you don't shame your clients into sticking with you or shame your
clients and doing more business with you they should do more business because
they like you and love you man I don't know what to tell you with the with the
whole thing evidentlyidently here,
here's what's changed evidently recently in last year to go daddy has a new product. I think it's
a good at a pro or something. And they're trying to get people to upgrade and pay for service and
pay for more shit. And I get it, man. They got to make more revenue. They're going to make more
money. You know, everyone's got to make higher revenue every year, you know, make the stockholders
happy and all that shit.
But guess what?
That's not my fucking problem.
And it's probably not going to help you if you shit on customers, shame them and treat
them like shit to where they leave.
Yeah.
Then you're really going to increase your revenues because you're just pissing the fucking
people away.
So, um, so yeah, man, I'm done. Fuck you. Go daddy. Bye bitches. Um, here's what I'm
going to do. I've already, uh, signed up for a bunch of name servers. In fact, I announced that
I am done with go daddy. I have people fucking begging me, begging me to switch services. They
will switch me for fucking free. And you know what they tell me every time they go you
know what chris you're gonna love our customer service and we will bring you over and take you
over because we want you on our service and we will jump over any fucking hoop to get your fucking
business meanwhile i go daddy it's like oh you're a piece of shit with your fucking uh website you
know how to fucking do uh but oh
but i don't know how to do multi-say you know pay us some more fucking money i've had people
promising me if you come over chris with your websites to our service we will never fucking
treat you that way and you will have vip fucking service that's how much I can fucking get and how much you burned a fucking
loyal client GoDaddy way to go you want to make a few extra bucks hey you know
here's what we want to do hey mr. telemarketer answer phone dude customer
service guy we need you guys start pushing our $99 package, uh, on customers that call in with problems.
Just,
you can shut off their fucking plugins.
Yeah.
Cause we need that extra $99.
I don't know what it is,
but I probably spend like thousands of fucking dollars with go daddy on an
annual basis.
I'm paying like top dollar for every domain that's fucking parked over there.
And I got a whole shitload of those things. It's a thousand dollars just in the mains alone or it was recently i just
dumped like 10 of them um because i decided i don't want them anymore uh you know i've got
shit up for sale on their auction site um i've got the hosting i put my i tell my clients to sign
up with godaddy um yeah you just fucked up man all for a hundred bucks cuz you you wanted a hundred bucks more
you just probably lost thousands of dollars just being a fucking asshole to
me customer service wise so way to go man you just threw the baby out the
bathwater you just fucking killed the goose who laid a golden egg just because uh it wouldn't give you
i don't know an extra small one so you're like hey man i know you're the goose who lays the golden
eggs can we just get like a little extra one we were thinking about an extra one and the little
goose is like no man i don't have it in me and then you're like fuck you i'm killing you and
you're like the goose is like there's now you're getting nothing way to go
so anyway there you go man I mean I literally have been almost almost just flooded with offers
to switch different services because people know who the fuck I am and uh they're just like man we
you come over here we guarantee you'll never have that
experience at godaddy and you'll probably be paying a third to uh a third for the services
facts there's people offer me for free they'll just move everything for fucking free and they
go we will make sure that shit works we'll make sure that everything's transferred properly
we will carry you through the fucking desert to move your shit
that's customer service and that used to be godaddy and it's not anymore so godaddy you're like that relationship that i'm in where you're married for like 10 years to someone you're loyal
to them you stick through thick and thin you know and then one day you wake up and go, I don't know who you are anymore. I don't know you.
You become a stranger to me.
And that's where you're at.
Go, Daddy.
So have fun with those extra revenues.
Have fun with that extra money for the next year.
Every time one of my domains comes up for service, because I'm milking out what I paid, because I paid premium.
But every time one of my domains comes up, it's moving to one of the other services when the
hosting comes up the hosting renewal for the website the Chris Foss show and the
other podcast they will be moving to in fact I'm in talks with people right now
to get it moved and they're willing to do all sorts of really cool shit for me
they're willing to take a move it from multi-site back to a normal site they're willing to put on high-end php servers ssls they're they're willing to do
everything including probably you know whatever um to get my business that's how competitive is
out there and that's how fucking big a dick you guys fucking were just because you guys have
changed your mode of customer service to try and
upsell the fuck out everyone who calls in and you lost my business over 10 fucking minutes of work
that probably would have took you guys five was that worth it i guess so you know i even uh
posted my complaint on social media to GoDaddy
and GoDaddy help.
Zero fucking response.
Wow, man.
Ten years.
So, I kind of feel good
right now. I don't have to defend
GoDaddy anymore.
I mean, you should have seen the shit
storms of arguments I get in on Facebook.
People be like, well, Facebook
did this. People be like like you're still supporting the
elephant killer company I'm like hey man you know the CEO's gone now and blah blah blah and
you know I'm trying to hold that to fucking together I've defended the fuck out of GoDaddy
so many times in public giving them my fucking endorsement and this is how they fucking repay me after ten fucking years
Like I don't know like even even I knew that when with our customers for our companies because at times we had
Hundreds-of-thousands of companies between the different companies that we owned
Did I say hundreds of thousands no hundreds and then we also had thousands at the other company
and Did I say hundreds of thousands? No, hundreds, and then we also had thousands at the other company. But I knew who my core customers were,
and there were some that had been with us for 13 years,
and I knew that if they called in with a problem,
they were going to get ultra customer service.
There should be something on GoDaddy that says,
hey, by the way, customer service agent has the phone.
This motherfucker's been a client for 10 fucking years.
We might want
to be just a little extra nice to him you know than that idiot person from a year ago i'm not
asking for better service all i'm saying is is maybe you should know who your good customers
are because if i'm just a fucking number in the fucking cog well this is the sort of shit that happens that smart-ass little
kid who shamed me on the second call yeah he should have been looking at a
little number going this is a ten-year-old customer Chris man he's
done blog posts about us he really loves us he defends us from our enemies he
defends us rainfall view of people who run
websites and and host servers and people like wolf Chris stands behind GoDaddy
I'm going to go daddy not anymore anyway so you get the point but this is a good
example of how to lose customers how to lose a 10 year old customer who's paying ultra premium pricing.
And all you want to do is make an extra a hundred bucks off him or 150 extra bucks off him.
And you burn the whole fricking golden goose to the ground. Smooth move. Way to go.
Anyway, that's my story. I'm sticking to it what are you gonna do don't do this
in business seriously if you have a company identify who your most loyal
powerful customers are most companies are smart if you know who these are now
I'm not a big customer for GoDaddy but you should know who your 80 20 clients
are in any given business the 80 20 rule applies 20% of or 80% of your revenues
are gonna come from 20% of your clients that's your core you got to take care of
those motherfuckers like no buddies business and 80% your clients will bring
maybe 20% of your revenue so you got to know who's who now you should give
extraordinary wonderful customer service to every
single client you have but you should also kind of know who the who the best guys are and someone
at godaddy and their customer service department should have been looking at me going this guy's
been with us for 10 years let's uh let's give him a little extra let's take care of him man
you know come on let's not stop busting nuts's put up with a shift for ten years let's uh let's help him out you know in fact most cuts company should
probably have like like a social media monitor where they're like this guy's
written blog posts about us and defended us and shit like we've seen the video
blog post he makes and the arguments he gets in about GoDaddy over us you can
give this guy just a little bit of give them five fucking minutes five minutes five to ten
minutes you destroyed ten years of loyalty way to fucking go and goodbye
GoDaddy if you're on GoDaddy really recommend you finding a better service
I'm of course looking at a lot of different options I can tell you that
if you're with GoDaddy you're paying hella crazy prices you're paying premium
prices that are two to three times higher than what you can get anyplace
else and there's actually a lot of great competitors on the field than there used
to be when I started out a long time ago and I'm done with GoDaddy I'm tired of
paying the high prices I'm tired of doing whatever I'm tired with GoDaddy. I'm tired of paying the high prices. I'm tired of doing whatever. I'm tired of being shamed by their customer service and
upsell and told them my website. Don't lie to me. Don't lie
to me that you think PHP is my problem when all you do is turn off my
plugins and you probably knew that because you're just trying to make your little
$20 commission or some shit off of that $100 upgrade. Way to go
Marvin. So anyway anyway that's my story
I'm sticking to it I appreciate you guys tuning in be sure to like subscribe to the show I hope
you got a good business lesson here on how to take care of customers always give your clients
extraordinary customer service they will stick with you forever and you know what's funny
across the ages of all my companies I've been giving extraordinary customer service I've had clients leave
me and the first thing you do when they leave you is you feel kind of hurt and
offended you're like I gave them everything and they left and some people
are mean to customers and they get shitty and stuff don't do that I got it
I can't tell you how many times I've had customers
that I can have extraordinary customer service to me. They get really spoiled with me. That's
the trick. They go to another service and guess what? They're calling you back in two or three
months going, Hey man, can I, uh, can we get back together, man? I really miss you. And that
extraordinary customer service. If you spoil your customers like that, guess guess what they will come back to you if they
leave you and sometimes they don't sometimes it may take a year or two before they figure out
they made a bad move sometimes they're embarrassed you know you should follow up with them and say
hey how's things going over there with that other thing you know we miss you by the way
and you're always welcome back but you know just want to make sure you're okay if there's anything
we can do for you i always do that with customers but i've had so many customers come back to me over the years that left me because they thought the
fields are greener on the other side and they always came back for that
extraordinary customer service do that for your clients you'll be happy they'll
be happy and you'll have clients for 10 to 20 years anyway thanks for tuning in
