Early this month, we had Gary Shapiro, CEO and C.E. of CES show and CTA, brains farting out here on a Friday. And did our eighth annual interview with him to preview the CES 2026 show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Starting point is 00:01:25 And now we have been started a series of interviewing several of the people that are going to be showcasing their products, their innovations, their ideas at the big CS show, 2026. Wow. I feel really old right now. We have a wonderful gentleman on the show with us today. We're going to be featuring the company called Ice Plosion. And we're going to get into them with Andrew Highway, the CEO, is on the show with us today. They're an innovative beverage company that created the first. first world's frozen the world's first frozen carbonated slushy machine for the home market
Starting point is 00:02:03 because gosh darn it that's what you've been missing at home folks is a carbonated slushy machine and uh you know i mean now our lives can finally be complete we've got the popcorn maker and the slushy machine in the microwave and it's utopia it's like living with the jetsons in the age uh so anyway welcome the show Andrew how are you I'm very well thank you very much much for having me on your show, Chris. I'm very excited to be here and talk a little bit about Iceplosion and what we're doing. I feel like I should have like one of those
Starting point is 00:02:33 movie sound guys come in. Iceplosion. It's an explosion of refreshment. Well, as long as it's just ice. You know, give us dot-coms, and I don't know if you know your booth number, I can give it if you need it. 60436.
Starting point is 00:02:52 And the dot-com? That's Venetian Hall G. Okay. and Eureka Park, and then it's iceplosion.com? Correct, yes, iceplosion.com is our website. So tell us, in your words, what is iceplosion? Iceplosion is all about bringing the convenience of having your favorite frozen slushy drinks, frozen fizzy slushy drinks, bringing them to the home.
Starting point is 00:03:18 Because for me, it's not convenient to get in a car, travel, have to buy these, queue up at the movie theater, queue up at the convenience store. And, you know, I've been a huge lover of these drinks all my life. And one day I said to myself, you know, there's got to be an easier way than this. And I thought, who's making a machine for the home market? Then I can start making these drinks at home. And the more I looked into it, the more I realized nobody's actually doing it. And so then I started asking, well, why is nobody doing this? And I got deeper and deeper into it. And I thought that we could develop a machine to do exactly that. So I set about this four and a half years ago, starting from scratch.
Starting point is 00:03:57 Because, you know, one of the problems, as you probably know, in the industry, well, in the frozen drinks industry, is that if you want to sell these drinks, these are all high-volume machines. You know, you need a big electrical supply, big water supply, pressurized water supply, you need a giant gas bottle. And, you know, if you want to make these drinks, you've got to make 30 or 40 of them at a time. If you want to change the flavor or the drink, it's going to be a couple of hours by the time you've cleaned it all out and defrosted it and everything. I thought it's got to be a better way. So we developed a system.
Starting point is 00:04:27 It's a capsule-based system. So you put your favourite capsule, if you like, into the machine. You add drinking water there. You use a standard sort of 60-liter CO2 bottle that you get in other household appliances. You press the start. And you can have your drink in as little as two to four minutes. So, and then, you know, after a quick cleaning cycle, you're ready to make a brand new drink, a different drink type, different flavor
Starting point is 00:04:53 in only a matter of minutes. Wow. Now, when you see a different drink type, I see something here called the syrup capsule. And is that how it works? It's kind of like I want to fully compare with like the capsules they use in like the coffee machines, you know,
Starting point is 00:05:09 but it was a K-cup? Is that what they call it? But it's it kind of like that where you put your flavor syrup in and it spits out your icy or your 7-Eleven slushy, basically competition? Essentially, yeah. I mean, And the thing that we found, as we got further into development of this, is that we could do other drink types as well.
Starting point is 00:05:27 So we can also do non-fizzy, non-carbonated slushies, but also really interestingly, and also kind of an industry first right now, is that we can do ice-cold sodas. So, you know, you can serve yourself up a soda, ice-cold out of the machine, which nobody else is doing on the market at the moment. At the moment, with this drink type, you basically, the temperature that you get to drink out is only as cold. is the water that you put into it in the first place,
Starting point is 00:05:53 whereas we're actually refrigerating it during the process. So all of these three different drink types are served from one syrup capsule. So you have different. At the moment, we've got something like 20 flavors at the moment. Oh, wow. Always increasing the number of flavors and they're sugar and sugar-free. So in all these, you simply choose what flavor you want,
Starting point is 00:06:14 whether it's sugar or sugar-free, and then you put it in the machine, and two to four minutes later, you've got yourself your favorite drink. Wow. I mean, this is a party. It's a party in a, party in a machine. You know, I never really thought about it. I used to love slushies when I was a kid and going to 7-E-1. I was like going to Kmart to get the icy stuff and, you know, get a good brain freeze going. Maybe that's what's wrong with me. Too many brain freezes. But 20 plus drink flavor capsules. So, like, they have nowadays like these automatic machines where,
Starting point is 00:06:51 Like, you can go, say they like Coke and you can order Coke, but then they have like a million different variations. They have like cherry Coke, cherry lime, cherry whatever, you know, they got like all sorts of merit variations. Is that something more with like this sort of these capsules? Like I could make like, I don't know, strawberry Coke or something like that, berry Coke and that sort of thing? Like I could add it to the Coke, the flavoring. As I apologize, it dropped off, and I haven't been able to hear you. Could you repeat it again, please? Yeah, I'll just fill that again.
Starting point is 00:07:29 So, you know, when I was a kid, I used to like to go to Kmart for the Ices when there was Kmart. And then it's 7-Eleven for the Sushies and stuff. But this is great. So, like, if it makes your refreshing ice-cold soda, can you flavor the soda? You know how those machines they have now where you can take a Coke and you can make, like, cherry lime or, like, a million variations you could do with your Coke to add some squirt, squirt flavor to it. I don't know if that's what this machine does. At the moment, it's a single syrup capsule for a single drink.
Starting point is 00:08:04 I mean, it serves something mixing syrup from syph and syrup capsules is possible in the future. But no, at the moment, it's based on a single capsule flavor for a drink type. So it's not possible to mix and match at the moment. So it's kind of portable. It doesn't have plumbed in water that you need to. Dude, that's always, I hate doing that. It's always a pain. And then uses less electricity than a boiling a kettle.
Starting point is 00:08:27 That's pretty good deal. So it's not going to, you're not going to up with a commercial 7-Eleven bill for electricity. That's true. Absolutely. Yeah. Easy maintain. It's got self-cleaning, a one-minute self-clean cycle so that sugar doesn't get all built up there. I get nasty.
Starting point is 00:08:46 And you have sugar and sugar-free, we should point out, because that's important the ladies like that sugar-free. Yeah, no, absolutely. And also as well, you know, I think parents are very health conscious. They don't want their kids, they're saying getting wired on sugar drinks all the time. So this is a big deal. And of course, as we know, you know, things like diabetes, for example, means that people want to have more choices now. You know, people, some people will always like to have their sugar drinks, of course. But I think having a major, you know, sugar-free varieties available is really important today. So, I mean, you, this would be great during the summer, too. I mean, you want to host parties, events.
Starting point is 00:09:23 It's great for a party machine. If you want to throw a party somewhere, go to an event and stuff. So you've developed this since 2021. Is that correct? Correct, yeah. Four and a half years, we've been involved in this now to this point. You know, there's been a lot of trials and tribulations along the way, a lot of technological or technical challenges to overcome.
Starting point is 00:09:43 But, you know, the machine spawned. And, you know, we found that, I mean, originally, I say about nine, ten months ago, we were making drinks in, you know, seven to eight to nine minutes. And then we found another breakthrough and then we brought it down to a little. I mean, our record so far at the moment is to make a frozen dream from scratch in only three and a half minutes. That's our current record. If you can't wait three minutes for your slushy, then I don't know, get help. But no, that's really amazing.
Starting point is 00:10:12 Is this your first foray and to be an entrepreneur and building products? I have some experience I was involved in, I was, basically my company was the first ever manufacturer of pinball machines before for the UK, first ever UK manufacturer of pinball machines. So I guess you could say if I was involved in pinball machines before and frozen slushies now, I guess you could say I'm, I've got a big passion for Americana or Things America. I mean, I've always loved America. I've visited here many times in the past. And so I guess it's no coincidence that I'm a fan of these kind of products. We're kind of going through something right now, but hopefully we get back to being great. Is this the first time you guys are exhibiting at CES?
Starting point is 00:10:53 With our frozen drinks, yes. I mean, we actually were at the IFA show in Berlin, which is also a consumer electronics show last September. But that was our first ever public showing. Nice. This is our first American showing. I have actually been at CES with pinball machines about 12 years ago, so I was there once before. But, you know, this for us now is really new territory. So we're really excited to sort of share our passion for this drink type
Starting point is 00:11:22 and what it is that we're doing with Americans at CES. Well, if I come to the show, can I be like one of those trick-or-treaters at Halloween where I get my cup and then I go around the booth or the other way and come back and then pretend like I need another cup and I can just keep doing that? You can certainly try it. for some of the treats they've offered. I'm going back around for some more of those snacks they got. It's a lot of walking at C.S.
Starting point is 00:11:50 You got to keep yourself hydrated, you know? That's a big sell. You know, you're going to be in the desert. And the one thing I tell everybody, it goes to CS, usually every one of the vendors we have that we profile on the podcast. I always tell them two things. Bring really good, comfortable walking shoes. Don't bring new shoes.
Starting point is 00:12:10 to see it. Don't bring those sort of brand new leather shoes. Yeah, you don't want to break those in on the, wear some really comfortable and you walk really far. And if you're a woman, you might want to bring flats because that's a lot of heel walking. And then the second thing is hydrate yourself because you're in the desert. And a lot of people get fooled because Vegas doesn't look like a desert downtown. But, you know, as soon as you get there,
Starting point is 00:12:36 you'll start feeling your body, start drying out. So you guys kind of have an. added kind of bonus they're like hey are you you need hydration here in the desert c s we're almost providing a public service yeah yeah you should just get c s to sponsor you we can talk to gary after i don't think he's going to do that but he'll laugh at me uh which is pretty much all he ever does he's that's a good funny chris bye uh anyway uh so what else do we need to know about this product is it is it for consumers only or are you doing any b-to-b sales of this we've had a lot of inquiries, especially after the show in Berlin, whether we can do something or modify the
Starting point is 00:13:14 machine for commercial use as well. A lot of people interested in getting into cafes, bars, restaurants. Because the same problem is still there, in that if you, you know, if you've got a cafe or bar, something like that, and you want to put this equipment in, it's a substantial investment. You know, you could easily be talking $20,000 plus by the time you bought your machine and you put all of your installations in. Whereas, you know, we're looking at a target price point of approximately $700 for the machine and approximately around about a dollar for the capsules as well because a lot of people do capsule-based machines of different types but I think to price yourself out of the market you don't really have a chance to change people's lives you know this is about convenience
Starting point is 00:13:53 but convenience has also got to be about saving money especially though in today's economic where people are struggling you know you can't I mean for example with soft drinks okay you are competing with with a machine like cows you're competing with the cola bottle in the fridge, if you like. And if you're not able to provide a convenience service at least the same sort of price points, if not a bit cheaper, then really you've got an uphill battle. So we think that by having sort of approximately $1 drink capsules, that we're able to achieve that goal.
Starting point is 00:14:26 So people can have that convenience, you know, I mean, we spoke about convenience at the start of the show as well. Part of the convenience for me is, I mean, I drink probably too many sodas as well. And if you go to the supermarket, you know, you're carrying the bags and your back's breaking because you're trying to get those bags of sodas, there's got to be a better way. And so, you know, I thought of all of these different problems, and we've discussed it internally,
Starting point is 00:14:46 we try to find solutions, and we think we've got a machine now that can really be a sort of a convenient drink and refreshment, hydration station, however you want to put it, in people's homes. That's our goal. Yeah, if you go down to the 7-Eleven,
Starting point is 00:15:00 you've got to dodge the homeless people, I'm not making light of that. But, you know, you got to deal with that, and then you've got to go. go in and you got to wait in line and then you know you got to try and figure out what the guy at the front counter saying to you and then listen to the music and then and then it's somewhere in there the place might get robbed so you got to deal with that you know it's uh and then when you do get the thing to your car and you're like drinking that thing the stickiness gets
Starting point is 00:15:30 everywhere and if you just spill it have fun with that that's sticky crabs all in your car so i mean this is great you don't have to go to the store or 7-Eleven experiencing that crap you can't go to Kmart anymore that's for sure and now you can just have it home and I can see this being a great time for family, family movies,
Starting point is 00:15:50 family parties, you get some popcorn you get your sugar, you're set man, you can sit down and watch, I don't know, so you can sit down and watch Casa Blanca and Bogie. I totally agree with you. I mean, the thing is people like to have
Starting point is 00:16:06 that escapism in their lives and the escapism comes from the convenience and people love to build up their sort of the home, whether it's a sort of a man cave or whether it's a, you know, a barbecue area and they buy all these different things that it's for the convenience. So when the
Starting point is 00:16:22 Super Bowl comes on or the other big game or, you know, all the Oscars comes on that people can sort of converge, they can get together in groups, they can, you know, make them a good spread of food, have their refreshing dreams. And I think people really love to be able to do that in the comfort of their own home. So I think
Starting point is 00:16:38 But we're trying to take that a step further and to slot into that lifestyle by providing this kind of machine to make people's lives easier. And so they don't have to go out and fight, get in the car, drive away, you know, cues, all this kind of thing. It's all about, for me, a lot of it is about convenience for people and in their own homes. When do I see the flavors? I'm on your side. Is there a thing that maybe lists the flavors or is there a separate site for the B2C on this that the consumers order from? I'll try and fill you in more on the flavors when I see you at the bandries, if you don't mind.
Starting point is 00:17:11 I mean, we've got a lot of the popular flavors, things like, you know, blue raspberry, sugar-free, cola, cherries, you know, different sort of fruit. I'll bring something with a lot of pockets. Yeah, exactly. Something with a lot of pockets. Hey, do we see those, uh, there's the packets that we had there? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:17:32 Chris Fonzis here. You really like the machine. Wait, is one of the machines missing? Anyway. It wouldn't be the first time to see you. Anyway, nah,
Starting point is 00:17:42 you don't steal people. You don't steal things with CS people, but I've been given things. So anyway, people are like, do you want this? Hell yeah. Have you got to like move around
Starting point is 00:17:52 with a shopping trolley to get all the, to take all this stuff? Pretty much. Yeah, yeah. I used to, well, I used to,
Starting point is 00:17:57 yeah, I used to have a big roller I would take that would store stuff and I could hook stuff onto it, but then CS, you know, the terrorist activities ruined everything. So now,
Starting point is 00:18:06 now you can't do that anymore. you have to backpack everything and I think even then you can't backpack anywhere I don't know as a press person it's really hard because you're like we have like 50,000 cameras, microphones and wires we and lights we have to bring in like we can't bring it in on a cart like like what you want me to do man I mean how am I going to film all this but thank God you know you got small cameras like the now like this you know you need you know I need Chris you need one of those golf buggies and can just drive it around all day I I'll I'm going to ask Gary if I can have a golf buddy uh buggy this year I'm going to ask him see what he says
Starting point is 00:18:43 he knows me so like I'm not a terrorist I mean unless you talk to my ex-girlfriends but that's a different story but no this is this is really cool how soon is this product going to be available to consumers where they can order it well where they mean to have this on people's shells before the summer so that's really important I mean you know the idea of being able to have you know sodas as well, for example, means that this should be a machine you can use all year round. But of course, people with frozen drinks are going to be more inclined to make them before, during, and after the summer month. Yes, we're trying to, we're aiming to be on people's shelves before the summer. That'd be nice. Now, in America, the UK, both?
Starting point is 00:19:24 It's an interesting question, because different markets have different needs for a product like this. I mean, you know, the American market have been having these kind of drinks for 70-old years. So everybody in America knows about slushies and frozen slushies and sodas. Whereas in other countries I mean like Germany, for example, you can't buy frozen carbonated slushies
Starting point is 00:19:45 out in the market at the moment. In Britain you can do, initially you can't do. So really different countries work in different ways and each one is different. Yeah. Well, it'll be fun to see and I think it's a great thing. You know, if you want to throw parties for friends
Starting point is 00:20:01 you know, we used to throw big parties at my house, three to four hundred people, and having these would have been cool to have around, and you could probably, I suppose you can spike them a little if you want, you want to add a little bit of shot of vodka there, you can just do that in the final production. Well, that's something we've actually got in the pipeline at the moment, because, you know, having alcoholic drinks, you know, you've obviously got to be careful with it because, you know, obviously, you know what children to be able to be involved in that side of things for obvious reasons but his eight-year-old drunk but for the same time you know adults don't want to be treated
Starting point is 00:20:36 like children or kids do they adults want to be treated like adults so we're looking at having an option where you can make your favorite alcoholic cocktails as well within our machine and that's something a development is definitely in the pipeline you know I love I love coffee because well I'm old and it's a survival now at the fittest so coffee is the chemical that keeps the bowels moving. I like coffee. It's grown on me. If you buy good coffee, it makes the difference. But there's like a coffee shake that they have at Arby's, but it's called I think it starts the tea, but it's like basically a coffee shake. I really like that. I don't know if you have a coffee shake, but you can think of one if you want. Just make sure
Starting point is 00:21:17 it's loaded with lots of caffeine. With a real turbocharged caffeine shop. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. It's like there's been energy drinks as well, isn't it? Yeah, yeah. Because I'll just, I'll just take the big espresso machine, shoot me out some shots of espresso and then feed him into your machine and I'm a business, man. Screw a lot coffee. I'm getting a, I'm getting a slushy, a coffee slushy. What's the name of that? Arby's, I don't know if you guys have them there in the UK.
Starting point is 00:21:47 Probably because it's unhealthy as fuck and probably legal. But they have a shake that's a coffee shake. I can't remember what it is. People probably write me and tell me. so yeah but i love this idea it's a lot of fun in the summer you know let me ask you this i i would imagine you know i'm not a big fan of pop i mean i have probably a coke a day but i only buy it if i go out um i don't keep any in the house i used to drink 10 to 15 mountain dues a day i used to have a problem and i weighed probably 100 150 pounds more than i do now i'm not a big
Starting point is 00:22:20 pop fan anymore but you know if i do like i i shoot meo i don't know if you're familiar with that meo it's like a sweetener for stuff i'll shoot that into my protein shakes to just take the edge off the nasty protein uh shakes so i you know i i use that to kind of spike stuff up a little bit more are these maybe more healthier calorie wise and sugar wise than you know i don't know about what you guys see there in the uk but here are here it's like 99% sugar that's in on coke sure sure well i mean having the sugar-free options goes past of the way there. But also, I think you've brought her in a very interesting point there, and it's something that I'm quite passionate about, and other people have spoke to me about too,
Starting point is 00:23:05 is it necessary that slushies in particular and these kind of drinks either seem to be high in sugar or seem to be unhealthy for whatever reasons as well? And for me, it's part of our future development cycle, because I think that it's possible to have health-conscious drinks, not just, we're not just talking on a sugar or no sugar level, but also, you know, with the other ingredients in there, I see no reason why this side of the business can't be developed further. And I'm surprised the industry as a whole hasn't moved more in that direction. So I think, yeah, we definitely want to be looking into this in the future and be able to provide more health conscious options.
Starting point is 00:23:43 I mean, you know, slushies, for example, in our current machine is only one of the products there. So there are other things that can be made within our machine too. yeah i mean i mean we put so much of this uh i don't think it's allowed in your guys's countries but we put so much of this high fructose corn syrup yes and if we don't do that we do things like sucralose it's like 600 times sweeter than sugar like it makes me sick if i drink sucralose like i just get sick it's like it's like taking a i don't know a pound of sugar and shoving your pie hole. And so we have those crazy stuff over here and the pops really aren't that good for you. And the nice thing about these is there's a lot of water, there's a lot of ice,
Starting point is 00:24:28 there's a lot of hydration you're getting. So instead of like these nasty high fructose corn syrup drinks that we have, they're just, I mean, if you've ever seen how much sugar is in a Coke, it's insane. Like half the bottle is just sugar. And, you know, and then when you're done drinking a Coke, you're still thirsty because you just drank a bunch of crap that's going to probably dehydrate you and screw up your insulin. And so with this, you know, it's mostly kind of water, really, when it comes down to it. It might be better for people. Yeah, I mean, the stress strings are syrup-based drinks as in, as are, you know, the sodas as well.
Starting point is 00:25:08 But, you know, I just, I think that there's a really big market to do something really much more health conscious and that's so I think you know people want to have their sugar options they want to have their sugar free options but I think they also will want to have more health conscious options as well and that's a big area of our business that I want to concentrate on in the future and develop that way I can have a healthy slushy will I eat my Big Mac and quarter pounder America fuck you anything you want to talk about is there anything special you guys are doing in your booth the CES any uh any uh like drawings or I imagine you guys have probably hand out maybe some of these these slushies and
Starting point is 00:25:51 stuff people can check out yeah we're going to be doing samples there we're going to obviously we've got some information there to share I'm going to be there with my team we're going to be talking to as many people who want to talk to us about this and you know spreading the words we've got a lot of sort of media interviews book so it's going to be a busy four days we're also at the cies i've failed show on Sunday as well so we're looking forward to that so a question of friends sent me on a text message is there any limit to how many drinks I can take to sample I mean he can take to drink to sample
Starting point is 00:26:22 how many hands does he have he's got let me count two but I don't know sometimes they have an assistant with me so you know they can hold them too but yeah I'll just bring a big coat with like a pour bag in it and I'll just you know you've ever seen those
Starting point is 00:26:42 beer bags that they can wear to stadiums and stuff and I'll just keep pouring the slushy in there. Well, this sounds like a lot of fun, wonderful story as an entrepreneur's story, and I think you've got your finger on the market, and especially in the UK, if there's not a lot of, you know, if they don't have seven levels of
Starting point is 00:26:57 slushies running around, you got to, it gets hot over there? What is it? Like France? Doesn't France have an air conditioning problem now? Because the global warming and the heat, there's some sort of copper they have on all their stuff over there in
Starting point is 00:27:13 Paris or something and it like really heats up and they don't have any air conditioning so they just cook over there now so this might be good in France I mean I wouldn't say that I wouldn't say that ice explosion is a solution to global warming as such but I mean it sounds
Starting point is 00:27:29 nice you know you're going to hydrate and call people down yeah if you sell a baguette with it the friends will get into it I'm sure and some white flags I don't know what that means World War II, folks. Anyway, it's history lesson on the Chris Foss show today.
Starting point is 00:27:47 We're moving products on CS and also informing people on who, anyway, I'm just doing jokes here, people. So this sounds like fun. As we go out, give people a final pitch to come check you guys out, how to find out more on your website so they can be aware when you launch your product in your booth. Number, if you would, please. Sure, yeah. I mean, what can I say? You know, Iceplosion, brand new company in the U.S. market. We're making frozen carbonated, frozen fizzy slushes.
Starting point is 00:28:15 We're making frozen non-fizzy slushes, ice cold sodas, and, yeah, a whole variety of flavours, sugar-sugar-free. You can read more about us at iceblosion.com. That's our website address. Like explosion, I guess I'm not, you can't really say that word anymore, can you? But an explosion of ice, iceblosion.com. We're also on Instagram as well. We're literally just open up our page, Iceplosion. You can find us there as well.
Starting point is 00:28:39 We'll be appearing in more social media channels in the very near future, too. And we'll be at CES and Vailed on Sunday. And we'll be at the show for the four days as well, at CES proper. And I'll be there with my team. We'd love to speak to you, spread the word about what it is that we're doing. And, yeah, I mean, yeah, we're very excited about what we're doing. And we hope your viewers and listeners are as well. Yeah, I think it's a great product.
Starting point is 00:29:07 This thing should sell like hotcakes. And this is one of those products that, like, I mean, anybody who's, you know, if you're a parent, you've got to entertain kids and throw kids parties and stuff. This is, you'd be, you'd be like the goddess or god of the neighborhood if you put, if you got this machine, right? Because the kids can come over, they can play in the pool and they can get their ice explosions. And then, you know, you can give them all brain free so they don't cry as much or maybe that wouldn't make them cry. Anyway, so I love it. What a wonderful innovation and market thing I think you guys have here. much, Andrew, for coming the show.
