Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi folks, it's Voss here from thechrisvossshow.com, The Chris Voss Show. Hey, we're coming to you here from the Layton booths down here in Eureka Park. There's a whole row of booths that are really cool. They were put on by this company called Layton. You can come to booth number 51055 at Eureka Park, or there's a number of them. And today we're talking with Carolyn. She's the CMO of Layton. Hi Carolyn, how are you doing today? Hi Chris, I'm doing very well, thank you.
Starting point is 00:00:27 So you guys have these booths here and I guess there were some things that took place to get these folks here. But tell us who Layton is so we get a good idea of what you guys are about. Yeah, well, so Layton is an innovation funding consultancy. We help businesses to get funding for their innovation and we are based in several countries and in the usa we are based in boston and san francisco and yeah so we are that's mainly the description awesome sauce so uh are these these guys that are here i think there's five booths they're all winners you guys did a i guess a drawing or the challenge and they had to impress you guys yeah actually as we are working with a lot of businesses on innovation we noticed that
Starting point is 00:01:13 there were not so many innovation in sustainability so we thought that it would be interesting to have that contest that for a selection of startups that innovate in sustainability. We launched that in September. We got more than 200 applications from different countries, nine countries actually. And we selected two winners per country. And then there was an international jury who selected the final winners, the five that are here today.
Starting point is 00:01:43 This is a great opportunity for these folks to get this exposure. They probably wouldn't get it otherwise, huh? Yeah, well, they were really excited, and we are too. And what we can see, and it started yesterday, there are so many people coming and really being interested in what they do, and they are very happy with the business they've already made. So we are really happy for them. Can you give us kind of an overview
Starting point is 00:02:06 of what some of these companies do, like what their function is? Yeah, absolutely. So we have two US company. One is Growpod, it's the first over the right. They do a kind of fridge where you can put a plant and the plant is going to grow quickly thanks to that. So that's really a trend
Starting point is 00:02:25 that we have noticed at CES this year and they're doing very good on that so it's for you know for sustainable food then the second US companies retro labs they they've designed a camera that you can put inside your fridge and it gives you information of the duty to what you need to buy when you are at the store and so on that's good because I never trust the milk the milk of the cheese they're always getting together and talking about you behind my back so I always want to know what they're up to in my fridge yeah absolutely and you could buy a smart a smart fridge but it's so expensive and
Starting point is 00:03:00 those guys manage to develop an intelligent technology that's really cost-effective so plus I don't want intelligent technology that's really cost-effective. Plus I don't want a fridge that's smarter than me and it's a low bar so we can't have that. So the other innovations are BEFC, it's a French company. They have developed cellular paper battery, so it's disposable battery that you can have in a pregnancy test for instance at the moment you have some battery that are not ecological at all and you just throw it away and now with this paper battery there is no impact on the environment so awesome sauce so this is great i mean you guys have funded some really innovative companies and you're showcasing them
Starting point is 00:03:44 here and helping them out so they can experience the big show of CES. Yeah, absolutely. Awesome. So where can people find you guys on the web? Well, we have a website with layton.com And they can come down to booth 51055 or there's a whole row of them here.
Starting point is 00:04:00 You can come down here in Eureka Park, check it out, get a chance to see all these really cool innovative products and there you go. Well thank you so much Chris for this. Well thank you for having us Carolyn and to all my audience please keep watching. We'll be reviewing and showing you all the really cool booth
Starting point is 00:04:16 interviews we're doing at CES 2020 and it's exciting as all get out and we'll see you guys next time.
