Hi folks, Chris Voss here from thechrisvossshow.com, The Chris Voss Show!
Thanks for tuning in to our wonderful podcast.
As always, we appreciate you being with us today.
Today is Microsoft, Microsoft, Microsoft, Microsoft.
Lots of announcements today at the Microsoft Surface Show.
And a lot of different things that they had.
Holy crap, just a lot to unbox here, if you will. And one of the things that really stood out to a lot of different things that they had. Holy crap, just a lot to unbox here, if you will.
And one of the things that really stood out to a lot of people here,
Microsoft announced this Surface Duo.
It's a folding Android phone with two interfacing 5.6 displays.
They claim it's going to come next holiday season, not this one.
Next 2020, I guess, Christmas holiday season.
So basically it's like a year and a quarter away,
which is kind of an interesting way of doing it.
Year and a quarter away.
We're just early in October here.
So today, by the way, it's October 3rd, 2019.
They've announced this.
And it's kind of pretty far out there, but I don't know
Maybe they can square the circle by then it's kind of interesting that you would announce something like this way far ahead, but
Hey, you know, maybe people be looking forward to what it is. They also came out with a surface neo
That they have it's a dual screen device with differentiated features,
the keyboard that slides down to reveal a Wonder Bar touchscreen area. Kind of interesting. It's
going to be along with a new creation of Windows 10. They're going to call it Windows X, and it's
going to be a variant for dual screen PCs with 9-inch screens or larger coming late 2020
alongside PCs from Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Microsoft.
So that should be kind of interesting.
So there's still Windows 10, but the Windows 10X is a variant for the dual-screen PCs.
And I guess this is going to be our new future here, folks.
Samsung is re-releasing their Samsung dual-screen unit.
I forget the name of it off the top of my head.
Some other announcements Microsoft made, which is kind of interesting.
They unveiled their Surface Laptop 3.
It's $999 with a 13.5 inch screen and a another model that's 1199 amd powered 15 inch
variants with usb-c fast charging and new colors and these are going to arrive on october 22nd so
later on this month if you want to take and pick yourself up one as well uh surface pro 7 with intel and arm versions usbc up to 16 gigabytes of ram
1 tb of storage the same 12.3 display and updated surface pen from 749 interesting there uh microsoft
also announced their surface buds coming this fall for $249 with gesture controls, claimed 24-hour battery, two mics
per ear, and built-in translation.
What?
Built-in translation?
That sounds kind of interesting.
So it looks like a lot of people were really interested in the Surface Pro 7 and the Pro
X.
Said it has just beautiful rounded edges, smaller bezels, thinner chassis, but lacks
3.5 millimeter and USB-A ports,
according to Tom Warren at The Verge.
That was his kind of thing.
The Surface Slim Pen is also a thing that was launched by Microsoft today.
It's designed to slot into the Surface Pro's X redesign type cover keyboard with wireless charging,
and it sells separately for $150.
A lot of stuff going on today from the old Microsoft.
Ooh, they're getting interesting.
They're doing dual screens, baby.
Oh, what does it all mean?
I don't know.
Let's see.
What else do we have?
There is the new custom Surface processors.
There's the Surface Ryzen Edition.
It's co-engineered with AMD and SQ1 with Qualcomm.
That's quite the little package they put together.
And the Surface Pro X is an ultra-thin 13-inch 2-in-1 with SlimPlan
that tucks into a slot in its signature keyboard.
LTE, USB-C, custom SQ1 chip from $999. Wow, just a lot of stuff going on with Microsoft.
I think they're pretty exciting to see all the different things they've got going on with
Microsoft in this launch. And the products look really well. Big question here is, can
Microsoft come up with these dual phones, the Microsoft Duo with the foldable phone that's running Android?
If you didn't miss that, I said the phone's running Android.
You're like, what happened to Windows, Chris?
Hey, it failed, I guess.
I guess they decided to give up on it.
So they are going to try and make this work with a dual screen.
It does look like it folds up.
So it'll be interesting seeing how these dual screens work and what they can do.
And are they going to have the screen problems that the Samsung Galaxy phone initially had that had the foldable foam?
So I don't know.
This is kind of interesting.
It does look bigger than a phone it kind of looks like a little sort of mini squarish tablet uh if you
think of square on both sides all matching kind of four by four you know something like that um
it's not really taller it doesn't look like it's taller in one side to the other it looks like it's
basically if you took a square and you fold it in half and then when you open it back up it's a
square again it's kind of what it looks like um it says it can multitask or each display can run up
to two different apps at the same time uh it can also be turned into landscape mode allowing the
second display to be used as a keyboard or game controller that sounds really nice because you
can so you can set it up you can see your screen you can sit there and type on the little typewriter if your fingers are big enough
and uh yeah and uh they works on android here so there you go um one note that i saw on the
article about it was they claim it's heavily skinned to resemble windows 10 operating system. So we're Android, but it really looks like Windows,
but it's still Android.
It's kind of funny how they did that.
It'll be interesting to see how that works with apps
and all that sort of good stuff.
It's going to be powered by a Snapdragon 855 processor,
which is also a lot of the sort of chips
they put in the Android systems.
But they're still working on some of the elements of design according to verge uh whether or not it'll feature a rear camera at all um and uh so there you go uh it seems like
and according to verge they weren't really excited to call it a phone they're more like
want to call it a flippable tablet but uh i don't know
um it looks like they did kill the windows phone platform back in 2017 i remember hearing about
something like that so uh should be pretty interesting i think it's kind of um i think
it's kind of interesting what they're trying to do and what they're trying to accomplish. So I guess the Windows 10X is going to be a light operating system only for the dual screens.
So they're just trying to cut it down, pare it down, get it to where it can be on these
dual screen things. You know, it's kind of interesting. It looks like you took
two iPads and glued them together. The gal's holding it. That's kind of interesting. It looks like you took two iPads and glued them together.
The gal's holding it.
That's kind of what it looks like.
It looks like two iPads glued together,
and you can see there's a little foldable clasp at the top and bottom of them.
They're fairly prominent, probably raised a little bit from what I can see,
so that when they close, the screens don't smash against each other. One of the biggest problems you have with the concept of what they're trying to do,
and this was an issue with the early samsung phones with the dual screen
um was there needs to be a separator between them when they fold so that they don't lay on top of
each other and so the sand and dirt even the most minuscule can't sit there and sandpaper rub away
your screen and then you open up you're like someone took a uh nailed my whole
screen and now it's all screwed up and ruined my whole life so there's that so anyway that's kind
of the rundown of the windows surface announcements what they're doing how they're doing it and all
that good stuff we'll make this a separate podcast for our normal news and product hunt uh updates so
be sure to watch for those.
But check those out.
You can, I'm sure, go to Microsoft.com and see all the wonderful things
and the wonderful things they decided to do in their thing.
I think it's interesting.
Hey, maybe the more companies that come into the dual-screen arena
can finally bring us dual screens.
I mean, I guess, I don't't know man i would you rather have a giant
screen or a foldable one that folds and breaks and i don't know it's just to me how many times
i wonder how many how many tests they do i mean i'm sure they test them but i wonder how many
tests they do is how many times you can fold that because you ever you ever fold something to cut it
because you're because you're i don't know you lazy. You don't have something to cut it with.
So you sit there and you fold it one way and you fold it back the other.
You fold it, fold it, fold it, and eventually it breaks apart because you break down the middle of it.
Sometimes I wonder if that's what's going to happen with these things.
So I don't know.
And I'm not willing to drop $2,000.
You can get them at AT&T.
Your good friend's over there.
They have the new Samsung foldable phone.
You can go there and drop, I think it's about two grand.
Check it out and see what you think.
But I don't know if I'm fully sold on it, but I guess I'll find out.
Anyway, guys, thanks for tuning in.
We certainly appreciate it.
Be sure to check out the rest of the discussion we'll be having later on today about Product Hunt,
some of the news, the other news that are out there in the marketplace.
