Hi, this is Voss here from thechrisvossshow.com.
Hey, coming to you live here, we are at the NEB 2019 show with the Nexan booth.
We're at booth number SL15413 in the southeast area, and I'm here with one of their great representatives, me here.
How are you doing, bud?
I'm doing very good, Chris.
Thank you for having us.
Love your show.
Excited to share our story with you.
Awesome.
I love those plugs.
That's a long-time listener.
You gave me the plug there.
So tell us about what you guys are doing here.
Yeah.
You know, we have our Nexan equipment over here as well as our Drobo equipment here.
And we're excited to be a part of NAB.
Most of our customers are in the media and entertainment industry.
And we think that we have the products and solutions to serve that industry very well.
Awesome.
So you guys are part, you guys are Nexan, but you guys are part of StoreCentric,
which is, and your sister company, I think you might call it, Drobo?
Yeah, exactly.
So StoreCentric is the parent company, and under that parent company,
we have the Drobo brand as well as the Nexan brand.
And each brand, both, they work together together and they also work separately as well and we can see
some drobo's here in the booth and there's a little target to small and
mid-sized businesses okay they also go in large organizations as well okay and
that's awesome so what is the next and part what is how does that work and what
does it do?
So Nexan is a, like I said, it's a very high-performance storage solution.
And some of the top media companies out there use our devices to store their content as well as archive their content.
And again, it's a higher-end device targeted at folks like NHL or NASCAR, those types of industries that have a lot of content that they're creating and storing and curating for their customers.
And that's what a lot of broadcasters are doing that are here at the NAB show.
They're doing a lot of this, you know, redoing the storage of the content, huge video files.
4K, of course, is a big thing.
And, of course, what's next after 4K?
And people need a lot of space and a lot of software to be able to store it and archive it and all the good stuff exactly i mean data is
growing we know it that's the only thing that is growing right i mean it's kind of like back in the
day when you know we had our houses just store the extra clothes we have now we have to go get
public storage units to go and store our stuff over there. So you know, like those things, you know, data is growing data needs to be secure. Remember, in the media and entertainment industry,
the content that they create is what makes money for them. Exactly. And I'm happy to say one of the
things our sure you on device, which is our next in archive, we're one of the only storage companies
in the world that has never lost any data for us. So think about that. Business has been around for 20 years.
Wow.
Not a lot of storage companies have been around for 20 years.
Drobo's been around for 15 years.
So we have longevity in the industry.
Yeah, that's awesome.
And, you know, storing stuff is really important too as well.
I just went through a deal where we thought we backed up some drives right.
The backup software screwed us.
I don't know if we've lost data. We're trying to
like scramble three different backup drives to save it. It's just a nightmare and once it's lost,
I mean, it's hard to recover again. It is. It is. And you know, fortunately,
we have some great technology on both brands and customers continue to come back. We have over
500,000 units deployed worldwide. Wow. So if you think about that you know one of our largest customers has over 30 petabytes of data. Wow. So again great customer
set, great brands, great products and you know we're excited to bring these two brands together.
That's awesome. Now you guys are giving away some stuff at the booth. I hear this
we are. We got a roulette wheel. You come over here and you spin it and you could win beer for
a year. Who doesn't like beer? I it, and you could win beer for a year.
Who doesn't like beer?
I'm going to sign up for that.
We also got some specials running.
I think on the Nexan side, we got get 300 terabytes of data for free.
Holy crap.
People love free stuff.
Free stuff is good.
We got $50 off Drobo.
Oh, wow.
There you go.
Drobo.
We reviewed those in the Chris Voss show.
The 5D and the 5A, and $200 off the 8D which is our newest device nice Thunderbolt 3 8 bay device so we are excited a new product line we're excited again how
the products work together and how our customer sets overlap awesome sauce so anything more we
should know about what we have a great you know I mean, we have a great, you know, pictorial over here, and I'll walk you over very slowly.
Okay.
But you can kind of see where Drobo resides and where Nexan resides.
Really, Drobo's at the edge, and Nexan is at the core, and that's where we see the typical architecture.
We have one of the largest film studios in the world.
The editors will have Drobo at their editing station, and then they'll back up their movies and content back on the Nexan device that's at the core.
Awesome sauce.
So you've got your input devices, editing stations, the Drobo, Transcode, E-Series,
Proxy Content, Unity, Production, and then all comes out at the bottom there if everything
works out well, right?
Absolutely.
Yeah, that's cool.
So we're going to take a look at some of the other different stuff you guys have going on here uh and thank
you very much yeah chris thank you very much and i hope you guys have a great uh nab and come visit
us at our booth i think it's sl15413 and spin the wheel for a free beer free beer for a year
there you go okay thank you okay so uh second part of our little interview here at the Nexan booth.
We're with Rod Harrison.
Rod, how are you doing, man?
I'm doing great, Chris.
How are you?
Cool.
So, you guys are going to show us the cool setup that you guys have and how this all
works.
Yeah, I just want to talk a little bit about the Nexan storage product.
So, the first thing we have here is the E-Series.
This is a Fibre Channel SAN.
It can scale up from 18 up to 180 discs.
And the really cool thing about the E-Series is it's got these active drawers here that...
This one's locked. You just unlock the drawer and you can pull the whole drawer out.
So you can actually modify your discs. You can pull your discs in and out.
I'm lifting this little flap. I can't do it with one hand. There we go.
Oh, wow.
So that drawer is actually still active.
Storage is still online.
And you can actually pull discs in and out.
So you mount your drives in there and away you go.
So you don't have to offload your storage to do any modifications.
That's awesome.
That was a little difficult to do.
Well, you know, it's a testament that you can do it one-handed.
So, you know, you've got your arms full of tech stuff.
That's our high-performance
storage. We have
Unity, which is
one of the products we have.
It supports SMB, FTP,
NFS, and
NiceCas as well. I can actually scale
all the way up to
480 facts. You have about 6.6
petabytes in the Unity,
about 2.2 petabytes in the East.
Awesome.
You can really go from quite a small installation
to a very large installation.
So I can probably get all my photos of my dogs on there,
it sounds like.
And all the cats too.
And my cats?
I need to get some cats.
But yeah, I take a lot of photos and videos, of course,
and the more there is.
So who are mostly your end users, the people that usually utilize the services of your company the more there is. So who are the mostly your end users, the
people that usually utilize the services of your company?
Well, really everything. In the media and entertainment space, we typically see the
E-Series in those distribution servers. So when you're going to do the heavy transcoding
and very large capacities. And then we'll see Unity and Asurion, which I didn't mention
yet, in those delivery servers and origin servers towards a little bit closer
to what the eye was with the customer actually.
Awesome sauce.
These guys are awesome.
Can we walk around the back and see the back of this thing?
Yeah, we can.
I'll tell you about our assurance.
Oh, let's talk about the Beast or is the Assurant?
The Beast is only a scale of sound.
I like anything that's called the Beast.
The Beast is actually really, that's just just for 60 drives, scales to 180.
Wow.
It's a really great archive storage backup solution.
And then we have our Assurance Secure Archive down here.
And the Assurance Secure Archive is really an object-based blockchain internally.
What?
So it's an archive.
It's actually a blockchain.
We delivered it in 2007.
But anything that goes into there is automatically encrypted, chained together in a hash, in a chain of encryption.
So that if anyone was to try to tamper with it, you couldn't just go delete the file, delete it from the manifesto.
So anything that goes in there is absolutely secure. It's checked every night. Make sure it's there.
Make sure it's got pairs.
They're always replicated, so everything is always redundant.
Plus the rate behind it as well.
And you can also check policy files.
So you can say, for example, this file can't be, it's read only for 180 days, and it has to be deleted.
That means that if you try to modify that file within 180 days,
it just can't be done.
Even the system admin can't actually go in and check that file.
Wow.
It's in there as a ledger.
Strong compliance requirements where you've got to say,
I have to retain this file for a couple, three years,
and then maybe I have a legal exposure if I retain it longer,
so it has to delete.
That's where you want to do it.
I think I know a White House that could use that sort of data.
I don't know what that means.
So let's take a walk around the back
and see what this cool-looking thing does in the cage here.
At the back here, we've got,
this is the E-Series with dual controllers.
This is the Unity, so that's the Unity NASA
and the big J-Bot and then the bot name.
We've got the issue.
That is awesome sauce.
Wow.
Lots of power.
Power for everything you need.
All right.
So anything more we need to know?
Well, just, you know, we have everything you need on the next hand side for any part of the we see a lot of traction and anything that we had
performance to storage awesome sauce so come down to booth number one five four
one three the next hand booth you can see some of the cool drobos here there
as well from their sister company and And you can check out their products.
And you can enter to win beer for, what is it, a year?
Beer for a year.
Beer for a year.
I mean, that's a good deal.
I'll take beer for a day, really.
I mean, I'm not.
But, yeah, for a year, that's good.
You can spin the wheel, do the roulette, and check it out.
And you can hang out with Rod, and you can show you all the cool stuff you have here.
Be sure to come down, guys.
It's the southwest area, south hall of NAB Show.
And we'll see you guys next time.
