Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi folks, it's Foss here from thechrisfossshow.com. Welcome to the podcast once again. We certainly appreciate you guys tuning in. You guys are the best audience we've ever had. The best. Oh my gosh. All the best. Anyway guys, thanks for being here.
Starting point is 00:00:15 We certainly appreciate you. Be sure to go to iTunes and other places, review the show, give us likes and all that sort of good stuff to help share the show around with your friends, neighbors, relatives, and everything else. Let's talk about what's going on today. We've got news of the day. It's Thursday, September 26, 2019. We've got some other things that will probably stick with you even if you hear this later on.
Starting point is 00:00:39 Some several things that were launched on ProductHunt.com today uh and things that might stick out at you uh first off the top is the amazon echo frames these are eyeglasses with alexa built in oh crap probably gonna trigger no uh anyway these are uh units that uh kind of initially you kind of went, is this Google Glass by Amazon? But it's not. It's basically Echo Frames that have her built in. So it gives you hands-free access to her. And you can hear notifications and alerts. You can turn on compatible smart lights or call a friend all without pulling out your phone.
Starting point is 00:01:23 They're designed to keep you in the moment so you never miss one um you know i guess i mean man is there somebody who's such a um amazon echo person that they're just like i gotta have this right on me i must have alexa right on me uh what's next alexa condoms alexa echooms? Hey, Alexa, can you call for, never mind. Anyway, so I don't know, man. I don't really, I don't use my phone to speak with her. Yeah, there you go. Hey, hey, shut up. Gotta love it.
Starting point is 00:02:01 My whole home is IoT. And of course, the Chris F von shu is a lot of products that are iot related and based uh so she's built into everything we have the harman kardon speakers we have the jbl we have uh the brilliant home control which is really amazing we just got to reviewing that we've got all these different things that have her built in so I can walk throughout my work and home environment and speak to her now I never really when I'm on the road I really never talk to her much I actually talk to Google Home much more because Google kind of understands me and and is very clear and honestly if you say hey uh so and so play the Chris Voss Show podcast. Google just does a better job.
Starting point is 00:02:45 In fact, Alexa can't even find it. I don't know if that's because there's, you know, the Chris Voss Show podcast is on Google Play, and so therefore it's kind of integrated into his brain since it's a part of that. And, of course, it's on YouTube as well, the Chris Voss Show. So maybe that's what makes it all come together. I don't know. I don't know the answers to these questions but um all i know is it doesn't work with the other
Starting point is 00:03:10 thing so this is kind of interesting um the uh basically alexa frames so what are you gonna say what are you gonna do um i guess if you really need to walk around you're lonely and you're missing her well then there she is. Another thing that was launched on ProductHunt.com today was the OnePlus 7T. It's the newest flagship phone from OnePlus, and it's got a 90 hertz refresh rate, fastest HDR 10 plus technology. It's got a fluid display smooth vivid incredibly immersive according to their publication and uh it's supposed to be really cool so uh let's take a look at maybe some of the different features this is a new phone looks like it's gonna be 599 uh sales are
Starting point is 00:03:58 gonna start at 10 a.m eastern time on october 18th you can buy one with a, oh, they've got a loan program too. You can make installments. Wow, this phone looks a lot like, where's the other phone that I have here that we've reviewed from the Chris Voss show? Where the hell is that phone? This phone looks a lot like a new phone, NUU, new mobile, if you're familiar with new mobile. Except the back doesn't. The back is a little different, it's got a different sort of camera, but the rest of the body does, I mean, like, a lot, the buttons look a little different, but, yeah, the top looks a little different, the notch, if you will, but, yeah, kind of interesting, you know, all these phones start
Starting point is 00:04:43 to look the same, they do have, it looks like there's three cameras on the back and a flash on the back. So there's kind of like four holes in the back in kind of a circle format inside of the circle. It's got a Snapdragon Qualcomm 855 plus 8 gigabytes, 120 gigabytes UFS 3.0, 48 megabytes of ultra-wide triple camera. Are they combining those all? Two times optical zoom, 117 degrees of ultra-wide stuff. So there's that. Not sure why they're bragging so much about fluidity and smoothness. I guess whatever it's got a six point five five inch
Starting point is 00:05:26 display which is nice of a twenty to nine aspect ratio evidently there's some certification they have for blue light reduction and viewing safety I guess that's the thing now triple camera camera, which is interesting. So you got triple cameras. There's a nightscape modes, ultra wide angle, two times telephoto mode. So you can take and kind of focus into things. And it's supposed to have really good performance. It's 128 gigabytes of lightning fast UFS 3.0 storage and 8 gigabytes of optimized memory to just make sure everything is cool. According to the website everything does look pretty darn cool uh with the snapdragon qualcomm chip 855 plus you get 15
Starting point is 00:06:13 better graphics uh improved vibration uh their haptic haptic feedback is more accurate more satisfying and simply better than ever okay uh fanatic mode you can turn into a dedicated gaming powerhouse with uninterrupted gaming bliss i guess whatever that means and hopefully we'll get a hold of one of these to review so that we can share more with you uh it uh warp charge i guess provides a 70 plus charge in just 30 minutes so wow that's pretty darn fast and everything else so 23 faster than warp charge 330 um and uh what else do we have surprisingly thin it does look thin i'll give you that. Bold and simplicity. You're definitely going to need a cover for this because the screen sticks out that holds the, well, not screen, but the thing sticks out that holds the cameras. And it's supposed to have their OS system, Oxygen OS 10, on it.
Starting point is 00:07:18 So you're going to have really good slick-looking Android according to their website as well. And guess what? It does come with android 10 so there you go um i don't know a lot of people that i met and a lot of people i've known that have bought these phones are very happy with them they like them uh in every phone there does seem to be some hang-ups so i've heard of some different hang-ups on prior models that people like but they generally overall like the products you You know, I play with the Pixels. There's been issues with those. You know, every phone kind of has this little quirkiness where you're just like, man, you had everything but that. With the Samsungs, for me, it's Bixby.
Starting point is 00:07:54 I hate Bixby and the Samsung disabled the Google Now app that you can take and put on that will use as the Google Now launcher. And I hate that. But, yeah, well, the rest of the phone's awesome and everything's great. And, you know, I don't need to use Google Now on the swipe over. I just talk to Google if I need her. So there's that. But I really wish they'd change that. Let's get into some of the other news of the day and go down through the list of some things that stuck out at me.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Oh, my god, another data breach of customers. DoorDash confirms data breach on May 4th affecting 5 million customers roughly. Workers, merchants, last four digits of their payment cards and their driver's license info. Well, that should make it easier for
Starting point is 00:08:39 to hack the rest of the accounts to get their driver's license info. Really, people need to start going to fucking prison for this shit.'s what needs to happen anyway that's according to tech crunch uh let's see according to verge uber overalls its apps to become the os for everyday life merging ride hailing food delivery and boosting alternative modes of travel and new safety measures i wonder um i've been wondering when they're gonna do this because i'm like tired of like how many is like 50 fucking apps for all the different divisions of uber so this is kind of good they put them all in one place uh it might help drive business to other
Starting point is 00:09:15 different formats of their business you know like if you're ordering food all the time you might want to order a car etc etc you don't have to hunt around for different apps you can just go to the uber app uh i don't know man if your whole life is paying uber for crap well i don't know man what does that say about you i don't know i'm not judging i'm just asking so there's that uh microsoft and google announced google assistance support in english for the xbox one and beta and the ability to launch games take screenshots and more really interesting they're letting that happen considering they have Cortana which I don't know anybody uses it I hate it every time I load Windows on a device they're like hey man you want to use Cortana and I'm like
Starting point is 00:09:58 fuck no go away leave me alone stop it. Cortana's just not that great. Sorry. You just arrived at the party way too late. Election. Google Home beat you to it. This is probably admission by Microsoft. That's where things are heading. Tesla has rolled out a new software version according to The Verge 10.0. And it's got Smart Summon, library spotify netflix youtube integration and more
Starting point is 00:10:26 so now you can take and i guess watch youtube videos while you're don't have your hands on the wheel driving down the road that's makes me feel safe i'm gonna stay home today you can check out that story on the verge uh nine 5 Mac is rewarding Apple support documents as the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro can identify non-certified displays and will warn users about them okay great so if you put a new screen on your iPhone it's gonna say this is not an iPhone you know I'll tell you a story that I'm really if you put a new screen on your iPhone, it's going to say, this is not an iPhone. You know,
Starting point is 00:11:08 I'll tell you a story that I'm really pissed off about. I've had an Epson printer for a long time, reviewed them on the Chris Foss show as well. Always like their products. I've had a printer for, I don't know, I've had two printers. One just finally went kaput on me and they're cheaper to replace.
Starting point is 00:11:21 So that one worked fine for several years. Then I got another one for several years uh we've had canon printers too we like companion canon but they also went kaput on so it was actually i like epson more uh sorry can i love you guys but your thing with the shit um and just one day after like six months it just suddenly said there was something broken we couldn't figure out what it was uh it was a nightmare to figure out what the error code was when we finally did it was just like um we don't know either just send it in and pay us to fix it and i was like you know what my epson printer's been working for years and i've always bought the third party off-brand and i buy it from amazon i
Starting point is 00:12:00 buy high quality stuff i mean it's just not the epson ink and every time i've done the firmware there's always been this little voice in the back of my mind that's gone if you do that firmware update what if they decide to be assholes one day and not let you use third party ink well guess what after i don't know 10 years of using epson printers fuckers decided to pull that fucking card. So, um, I was printing some stuff off innocently and I had some more stuff to run off and I, and it was like, Oh, there's a new firmware update. And I was like, um, yeah, okay, fuck it. You know, I can trust Epson not to screw this up. Sure enough, they changed the firmware to where it rejected all of my third-party ink and demanded that I that if I ever wanted to use it again I get third-party
Starting point is 00:12:54 guess where that fucker is going in the fucking trash so uh back to the story that launched the segue nine to five mac apple uh says their iphone 11 iphone 11 pro will identify non-certified displays and warn users about them uh so there you go more of their war on third-party repair companies fuck you apple this is why i don't buy your phones uh one of the reasons new york times says a number of countries using political disinformation campaigns more than doubled to 70 in 2017. Facebook remains the number one social network for disinformation. So there you go. So if your wife or husband are posting loving pictures and telling everybody how much they love you,
Starting point is 00:13:41 that's the number one network for disinformation ah i guess in vietnam citizens were listed to post pro-government messages on their personal facebook pages hey i want to get paid you know hey that uh who's that crazy guy andrew wing who's trying to pay everybody a bunch of money he's trying to bribe people for votes basically um maybe you should talk to your crane given the political news that's come out in the last two days um but uh hey i i i'm gonna get paid i'm up i'm up for the highest bidder who wants me to make political posts i mean technically political sponsored posts that's where we're at people in this country uh i'm up for sale the highest bidder i mean i'm kind of to the left but i mean if you pay me enough i don't know i can kind of see where my morals are i mean i may not just like flip you're just asking me to make a post maybe the fcc is going to have to finally
Starting point is 00:14:40 make a rule that like you know how when you have paid posts on your blog, you have to say, this was a paid post? Maybe they can make a rule that says, you know, this was a paid political post. I'm Chris Voss, and I approve this paid political message that got funded through a political PAC, which I'm sure is completely legal. So, whatever. So, this is going to be kind of interesting. I mean, is Facebook just going to become this seething disinformation, centralized headquarters hub of everything unreal? Or what?
Starting point is 00:15:17 But certainly they have found a way to target us at our home and base. So there's that. So what else do we have on the thing peloton closes down 11 that's first day of trading after raising 1.16 billion dollars at evaluation holy shit who knew just putting uh monitoring and videos on an exercise bike would be worth so much fucking money why didn't i see that one coming and cat and and catch the wave what am i gonna do this is kind of interesting coming up with zd net cloudfare google chrome and firefox from mozilla add support for http3 the next major version of the hgt
Starting point is 00:16:00 protocol crap i just barely got https finally set up on the Chris Voss show. Finally got around to that. And, yeah. So, just trying to catch up now to that some more. Fun is fun. You got to love it. So, there's that. All right.
Starting point is 00:16:21 So, what else do we have on the thing, Chris, man? YouTube says it's going to remove content that violates its guidelines regardless of who said it, including politicians, but will make exceptions depending on context. It's interesting to me. We live in this dynamic where politicians can spread disinformation, lies, cheats. And the problem that a lot of these folks have is, like regulators have, like YouTube and Facebook and Twitter and everything else, is they are a matter of public record. And they have to decide, do we let the public see these people or shit show in their heads
Starting point is 00:17:03 because we're letting them speak their minds and people can see who their leaders are. The only problem is the crazies who love these people and hero idol worship them can go, oh, yeah, let's spread that. And they spread the message and it becomes even more powerful as it gets spread to a million people who go, well, it's on Facebook. It must be the truth. In fact, I usually get a shirt that says that because according to the, I, you know, earlier I was, I was talking about that where, uh, they've learned to hit us where we live, Facebook. Um, and, uh, you know, that that's where it comes down to where people are going, well, if it's on Facebook, it must be true. That whole adage about the internet.
Starting point is 00:17:50 So there you go. According to the New York Times, Twitch has updated its design tied to advertising campaign, meant to emphasize that it's an all-purpose live streaming platform, not just gamers. Wow, is Twitch really going to go into the future? I know there's people that have been trying to do different things with twitch where they've been trying to make it more of a um like a podcast i've seen people trying to do podcasts and other shows on twitch which is good you can hear twitch kicking on the background because i'm actually trying to get a peek at this to see what it is um and what it's like so I can give you some of my insight or thoughts on it.
Starting point is 00:18:28 I've been using Mixer a lot lately because Twitch has been really assholes giving me accounts. But I'm using Mixer.com. And Mixer.com I've really been enjoying because it will automatically work really well with pc gaming and my uh my windows 10 and then also xbox which i don't use but uh it works really good for um it works really good for the thing so right now i can't really tell you what i think of the twitch thing i've got two factor identification i can't go through my auth you have to try and find it and all that kind of crap. It looks kind of cool from what I'm seeing off the screen. So there's that.
Starting point is 00:19:10 I see Totino's. So clearly that's an ad. Oh, there's Totino's on both sides. It's a bookends library. What do they call it, bookends? It's a bookends ad. There you go. It's on either side of the screen, uh, showcasing, uh, and surrounding the middle part. Well, uh, there you
Starting point is 00:19:32 go. That's it. Um, so, uh, what are you going to say? So anyway, that's some of the news that I thought was interesting today. Some of the things that stuck out to me uh certainly the phone thing i think it's gonna be really cool from one plus 7t and also i don't know the alexa amazon echo frames i'm not sure i'm gonna get those um maybe if they had like some really fake or funny or cool like uh eyebrows on them like you know those glasses in the days that have the eyebrows attached to the frames like i don't know man like are you gonna get laid like is some chick gonna come up to you in a bar and be like those alexa glasses are so hard i want to go back to your house tonight um i really don't think they're gonna get you laid when we had google glass that
Starting point is 00:20:22 was one of the discussions we talked about. They were so nerdy in having Google Glass glasses, they weren't going to get laid. And most people don't get laid to wear glasses anyway, right? We all grew up in an age where you're just like, you're nerdy, you know? Jocks don't wear glasses. They're fine. They got a healthy set of DNA, where the rest of us i guess are substandards in some way or another i don't know but it's flipped actually all the rich people in silicon valley now are nerds who wear glasses so i don't know maybe it'll be a fit for them but i seriously
Starting point is 00:20:56 don't hope it's gonna get anyone laid um so have fun with that especially if you're walking around a bar going hey alexa can you give me some dating tips or some pickup lines on how to pick up this girl over here on the barstool? Yeah, that's probably not going to help. Anyway, guys, so those are some of the news. There's some of the product that I thought of today and some of the things stuck out. Be sure to check in daily. Oh, my gosh. Daily.
Starting point is 00:21:22 Daily. We're doing daily shows now, and we've got some great interviews come up. Check out the CD of shows, interviews that we just did recently. There's a lot of cool stuff there. A lot of cool stuff on the YouTube channel, youtube.com, for it says Chris Voss. Be sure to check it out over there and all that good stuff. Anyway, I appreciate you guys tuning in.
Starting point is 00:21:39 Big hug to you. Be sure to check in often, and we'll see you next time.
