Chris Voss here from the chrisvossshow.com.
Hey, coming to you in another booth from NEB 2019.
So you would definitely want to come check these guys out.
It's Open Drives.
And I'm here with Sean.
Sean, how are you doing today?
I'm great.
How are you?
Good, good.
You guys having a good show so far?
Having an amazing show.
Awesome sauce.
So you guys are here near the Studio X Experience,
I guess it is, the best way to find you guys.
And you guys are kind of right in the middle of South Hall, kind of near the Studio X experience, I guess it is, is the best way to find you guys. And you guys are kind of right in the middle of South Hall,
kind of near the South Wall.
So tell us about who you guys are and what you guys do.
Yeah, Open Drives is an ultra-high performance
network-attached storage manufacturer
birthed out of the media and entertainment industry.
We were frustrated with the problems that we had
with the storage that we were buying,
and really Open Drives was birthed out of that.
We address performance as the number one key value because if you can't play back content,
you can't do your job.
Cool.
So what we're showing here at NAB is uncompressed and compressed playback from DaVinci Resolve.
We are partnered with Blackmagic, Adobe, The Foundry, and many other companies
as the tool sets that our customers use
work much better on the Open Drives platform.
Awesome, awesome.
So this is, I can see some South Park playing,
which is pretty cool.
Absolutely, so South Park is one of our customers.
Really, wow. We have many,
many major customers. That's awesome.
I'm a big fan, or at least I was back in the day, yeah.
So what's really neat here is we're doing some education.
As you can see, we're playing back this content,
and it's giving you the actual bit rate and the codec that we're using.
So this goes through HD content up to 4K,
and what you're seeing right now is fully uncompressed 8K playback
at 3.1 gigabytes per second. This is
all frame based uncompressed. Wow, it looks great. Looks great. Can I borrow that TV and take that
home? I'd like to take it home to my house. That's a nice looking TV. And if you take a look down
here to the left, all this content in the booth here is coming off of this one for you open drives
unit down. on the left.
Oh wow. So that's live in production and that's where this content this 8k content is coming off
of this one for you unit. It's also driving the Adobe Premiere shared projects on the left over
there and on the other side we're also doing VFX on Nuke Studio. So that's running the the TVs on
your whole booth you You got a whole mess
around the corner. All the content media is being stored on that Open Drive system.
Wow! Can I have one of those too? No, I'm just kidding. So this is pretty nice. Where can people see this on the internet?
So you can go to opendrives.com. You can also check out our YouTube channel
that has a lot of informational video. Cool. Cool.
So what else do we need to know about what you guys are doing here today?
So in addition to the post workflow that we're showing here, we're also showing live broadcast
capture.
So we've done a partnership with EVS and Creative Mobile Solutions.
So in the booth here, we have four 4K cameras that are live broadcasting to an EVS XT via and that
is then being live proxied out to an open drive system.
Wow, 4k.
And then we're doing live edits of that content.
As the file is growing on an open drive system being edited through Adobe Premiere.
So these are all being run by you guys' machine here?
Yes.
All this content is being captured by that.
I need this so I can play just video games really fast.
The problem is it'll probably be over like really quick.
Zoom!
Zoom!
You're done.
Oh, wait, I wanted to...
I didn't even see it happen.
So this is pretty cool.
You guys are running a lot of stuff.
So if you guys get a chance, come by the Studio X Experience.
I see there's some Unreal Engine stuff going on over here.
Is that part of what you guys are doing?
Yeah.
So actually, Epic Games is one of our large customers.
Oh, wow.
So they've got an Unreal Engine gaming thing going on up here.
Yeah.
So we do a lot of the work with with Epic Games and
Fortnite. And a lot of the content creation occurs on open drives with Unreal Engine.
That's amazing, man. It's just amazing. And look how it's not that big, right? It's like,
it's a rack. Yeah, that's awesome. And we're gonna need that in the future with 8k TV and 5g
and everything else
all right man so anything else you want to throw in no just if you get a chance come down and see
us here at nab and and feel it for yourself come by and see them guys they are right in the south
wall they're at the kind of the south wall and they have a big studio x experience you can kind
of see that you'll see their booth of course right here you can even see we're by the e-booth if that
helps anyone find it so be sure to check them out and thanks
for tuning in guys we certainly appreciate it thanks sean thanks chris all right
