Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi folks, this is Voss here from thechrisvossshow.com. Hey, coming to you here, it's Monday, October 7th, 2019. We're going to cover the segment of our show where we cover some of the things that stood out to me on producthunt.com today. You can check them out, all that good stuff. They've got some interesting offerings that are hitting the marketplace on here. Let's start at the top. Any Picker. on here let's start at the top any picker it's a Chrome extension that you
Starting point is 00:00:27 can use to scrape web data without any code you just click what you see it's got 394 up votes right now kind of an interesting offer I'm kind of kind of curious about this for scraping of course a lot of people scrape emails what you do with them you may want to you know be careful there's some people scrape data some scary content I've been known to to copy quotes of people that are curated quotes etc etc and there's all sorts of different ways to utilize this I'm sure so anyway this is kind of an interesting sort of scraping service that they take and make. It's built in the Chrome extension. And I guess in doing so, it allows you to take and scrape
Starting point is 00:01:13 different data information without some of the different things that go on. You can set extraction rules. You can create an edit pass in the webrawler, and you can preview scraping results in real time. You can reduce your costs, protect your website account, and you can scrape multiple pages at the same time. And it all works in your browser there. It looks like some people that are in the lawyer's lawyers field they do that with the court case numbers. I supposed to find different cases that maybe might be You know substantial to their court case in looking for precedent as it were precedent Precedent I don't know you get the idea not president president presidents
Starting point is 00:02:03 Okay, I give up. It's Monday. Let's move on. Next up that kind of stuck out to me is a company called Story Boost. They're a story creator app that will boost your brand. Works on iOS only right now. They have kind of an interesting thing. If you want to make cool Facebook stories with templates and stuff, you can use their brand to kind of help design what your story is going to be. Seemed kind of meh to me, but I what your story is going to be uh seem kind of meh to me but
Starting point is 00:02:26 uh i don't know seems to seems to be working so there's that uh you can check that out if you're looking for better ways to build your brand stories on instagram uh next up there's shoulder tap you can put some manners in your slack notifications are those slack notifications getting out of control well if they are then maybe you should get ShoulderTap. I don't know. Why am I doing ads for ShoulderTap? Get ShoulderTap.com. I'm not even getting paid for this.
Starting point is 00:02:55 What am I doing? I'm just making ads for it. Anyway, ShoulderTap is a simple tool for you slackers out there, you slackers, slackers, acker slackers to manage your requests for your time I do have to admit I was on slack for a while and I've been on slap slack for projects and yeah the notifications get way out of control it's like if you turn on notifications for Twitter and all of your Twitter feed yeah good luck with that head wound. So there's that.
Starting point is 00:03:28 You can turn random shoulder taps into a cue and give other team members visibility into how many people are looking for your help in any moment. So there you go. I like what they posted here. Annoying calling number one, annoying calling number two, the intern, an actual friend. So, yeah, it's a way that you can basically, uh, kind of get control of your thing. There's always that one person in the group is the noisy blabby
Starting point is 00:03:52 one, which is usually me in any group. And, uh, so, you know, you can kind of, uh, censor them a little bit or maybe thin out their noise and all that good stuff so you don't have to deal with it. So there's that. Anyway, let's see what else is up on the website for Podicont. There's a thing called Ivy, which is purported to combat burnout and Aaron paralysis. This kind of was interesting to me. Everyone's been through burnout and Aaron paralysis this kind of was interesting to me everyone's been through burnout and stuff it kind of helps you focus on doing one task at a time it is only available on iOS right now with iPhone or iPad you can go to get IV co if you're interested in this I guess it's
Starting point is 00:04:42 basically a new task manager that's supposed to help you focus on just one task at a time so that you help accomplish your goals and everything else. That's always good for the day. Looks like it does some gamification as well inside of it where it shows you your averages of how many tasks you're completing a week. Ooh, there you go. I don't know. It seems really nice.
Starting point is 00:05:06 It's got a minimal design, and people seem to like it. And, you know, I mean, anything you can use to take and be better at doing your stuff. I mean, is that really a bad thing? So there's that. What else do we see here? Move a brand-new supermarket supermarket not really interested in that uh there's a website here or there's a thing app here called super vice and there's no e in the super it's just super vice and uh this seems kind of interesting i I might take and do this, add my website to it. You can go to supervise.com.
Starting point is 00:05:47 That's super without the E. And you can check it out there. It's a real-time website health monitoring dashboard. And it helps SaaS makers and e-commerce website owners to monitor their websites in real time. And you can always know when your website goes down so you can fix it. I think this is a really important product to have, whether it's this specific product or a type of product that's competitive. Because I hate it.
Starting point is 00:06:15 It's so embarrassing when someone writes you and be like, hey, man, did you know your website's been down all day? And you're like, what? What? And you're like, ah. And then you've got to go in and you're trying to save it. you're like oh man how many people are here gone this website's down we're never coming back here again oh man that just wants to kill me when it happens and i hate the embarrassment of it too you just seem like such a hack like sometimes i've i've been working
Starting point is 00:06:42 on deals with people or something and my website will go down on WordPress or something and you know sometimes there's you know some sort of weird thing going on with GoDaddy or something but most times it's some stupid like the credit card that I gave GoDaddy somehow is maxed out and I got to flip it around and and I don't have the right that's happened so many times I finally just have to give that's happened so many times I finally just have to give a go to any like 50,000 credit cards so they always have one to ping but it is embarrassing when it happens sometimes I've been known to update a plug-in and I'll like
Starting point is 00:07:16 look around the website and I'll be like okay I think it's fine on that WordPress plug-in and then I leave and like I got fooled it was actually feeding me the cash off my browser that made it look like everything was cool and guess what it wasn't oh hey smack in the face so there's that anyway you can take and check that out as well there's aet Display, which finally has come out on Android. This is ranking fairly well on there. I don't use Duet much. I don't know if you do.
Starting point is 00:07:54 Let me know if you do and what you think about it. But Duet has been the way to turn your iPad into a second display. And they are coming to android so you can use your android phone or tablet as a second display for both your pc and mac i don't know man do i really need to use my iphone or my my samsung galaxy note 8 7 10 from at&. I forget which version we're on now. 10. You can use it as a secondary display. So I don't know why it's so small.
Starting point is 00:08:37 I mean, I'd rather just have like a big, bigger thing. But I don't know. Maybe it would be interesting. You can check it out if you like it. You can go to duetdisplay.com. That seems like an interesting product to maybe take and have and see if you like it and all that sort of good stuff. This is kind of interesting. I'm kind of curious about this. Explore City. You can turn any city into a strategy game and explore it, which is kind of weird. It's not like playing Risk in the city. You're like, my armies kill your armies and I win and take over City Hall or something.
Starting point is 00:09:15 That's probably not going to work out with the local police or this local government for that matter as well. So, you know, do that on your own peril. I'm just kidding. It's an Apple Watch app that tracks your exploring progress anywhere you go and shows you exactly how much of the city you've seen similar to strategy maps uh games you can explore city works in the same way as you travel city you uncover more it's kind of interesting i don't know it's kind of like the I don't know, it's kind of like the Pokemon of cityscape stuff, is that what it is, yeah, there you go, man, when you meet me, you know, I do like to, when I travel,
Starting point is 00:09:56 I do like to wander a city, I don't like to be forced, like, here, can we have a tour guide, I kind of like to, I kind of like to, what am I trying to say? I do like to go to certain sites, so there's certain things that I'll see, and I'll go, I really want to see that. Like when I went to Chicago, it's like, I really want to go see that bean thing. I don't know why. Everyone likes it. There's a beautiful park there.
Starting point is 00:10:17 But, you know, let's go to the bean thing. So there's that. But, you know, I mean, there's different things you target like i'll target different restaurants but i try not to make it like a format where i'm like i'm going to this place i'm just kind of like okay here's some places that i would like to go if the time happens and uh we can make it work and there you go uh and um yeah so um you know sometimes spelunking kind of is properly probably this proper word spelunking spelunking through an area that you're new to or city or maybe just discovering stuff like i i get bored of my whole world i it i'll sit down with yelp and i'll just
Starting point is 00:11:03 be like i gotta find some new places to eat. Where's a new place to eat that I haven't eaten that's getting spectacular reviews and people love it and it's got spectacular food? I'm always looking for something fresh and new because I get tired of seeing that. It's probably why I move every two to three years. Being single and no kids, I can get away with that. I don and have to worry about kids in school and, and people's other jobs and crap. I can just do what I want. Um, and the dogs go with me. Huh? Uh, so, um, it, it, I just get bored of everything. I get bored at the same stores. I mean, recently when I moved, uh, to work on this book that I'm, I'm writing, um, I was so sick of my area after three years. I mean, recently when I moved, uh, to work on this book that I'm, I'm writing,
Starting point is 00:11:51 um, I was so sick of my area after three years. I mean, I'm just like, I see all the same stars, you know, everyone looks like, uh, I know all the restaurants menus around me. Uh, I was constantly looking for new stuff. And finally I just started actually driving like farther away in my area just to go to a new grocery store that had opened that seemed to have a lot better selection and just better stuff. I actually found a sushi place that was close by me that somehow I just always taken for granted as not being a place worthy of going into. But suddenly I got really delving into their Yelp reviews and found that they were incredibly beautiful, wonderful food place that I wish I'd spent more time at. But hey, that's life, man. It's a giant catalog of stuff you can check out, enjoy, and make sure you do it. Life comes at you fast and then it drives away from you fast. Or hopefully, you know, if life does drive away from you, or hopefully you know if it does if life
Starting point is 00:12:46 does drive away from you hopefully it's fast because the slow part isn't fun what else is up we talked about this on the prior episode of the Chris Voss show podcast this morning in our new segment Sonos flex it's a subscription for a service for Sonos speakers it's only in the netherlands though right now but i guess they're running it as a test case i'm curious about this i actually rent some sonos speakers if i wanted to um i'm not really big on buying them and then of course there's so much crap that goes on with uh you know every year there's new technology that comes out i wouldn't want to own them because then i'd just be like hey can i get that new model and so i just want to own them because then I'd just be like, hey, can I get that new model? And so I just want to rent them, rent out the speakers.
Starting point is 00:13:28 Sonos is doing a lot of interesting things, very cool stuff with technology and IoT and home innovation controls. We have the brilliant home control system, the light switches that look like basically mini iPads on them. And I got to tell you, I really like them. They're really nice. And we did a review on them on the Chris Foss Show, so you can check that out as well. But also, they're integrated with Sonos. So that's that.
Starting point is 00:14:01 You can check that out as well. Here's something that some people might need to use should we take and try not to yawn in your ear there my apologies um there's alert a l l e r t it's an allergy flash card generator for travelers i guess if you are in areas where you might have issues with your allergies it will let you know and there's dcast this is your private podcast manager and player at dcast.site you can discover favorite subscribe and listen to the world's podcasts without being tracked which i probably not too excited about why am i for one of that doesn't even allow people to track them um it's powered by block stack and it doesn't allow people to be tracked hey that's that's the biggest problem we have in the podcast industry is people use these third-party apps they turn off tracking uh and then people ask you they go how many downloads you have i'm like i
Starting point is 00:15:02 don't know we don't have the data because uh people are hiding between ad blockers and tracking and stuff like that so it makes it hard to pay for the show so that i can uh warrant doing it to give you great content because you're listening on an ad blocker i mean i'm not bashing people that use them but you know there's a certain part of trade that comes with getting free data that maybe you could help out with not doing that or whatever the hell the case is. Oh, wow, I just got a spam text. Your application is accepted for $1,000. It doesn't say dollars.
Starting point is 00:15:36 It just says $1,000. Expires today at midnight. Come on, man. What is it, a pumpkin, fill up the confirmation form and get advancement by the next 24 hour, see they do this on purpose, they spell it wrong and they say it wrong in Nigerian speak, so that they can flush out people like me who are going to look at that and go, I'm not clicking that link, as soon as I clicked that link, you're probably going to have access to all my Gmail accounts, my Facebook account. I ain't stupid. It's probably going to download a hack onto my phone or computer. Um,
Starting point is 00:16:14 you got to watch what you click on these days. People don't click on anything. Like I get angry if people send me links that I can't see through. I'm like, Hey man, I'm not clicking that. You just, you tell me your website and I'll type out the website and I'll go there, but I'm not clicking your link. And it even makes it worse when people try and send you Google docs. I don't even take that crap anymore unless I know them, unless I'm doing business with them. Uh, I know specifically what they're sending me, you know, even on Facebook, if I know you, I don't click on links sent to me on messenger, unless I'm really have like, if we're having a conversation know you, I don't click on links sent to me on Messenger unless I'm really – like if I'm having a conversation with you and you're like, hey, Chris, check out this link.
Starting point is 00:16:49 I'll be like, oh, okay, man. But if you're like a friend of mine and just out of the blue, out of 5,000 friends, you send me a link and you're like, hey, here's a link to this really cool thing. And, you know, it's like, is this you on this video? And you're like, oh, man not gonna do that anyway those are some of the things we see on uh product hunt uh today and a lesson of course at the end be careful what you click and all that good stuff because usually once you click it then it starts sending that same message to your friends and it fans out and networks and yeah it's not pretty anyway guys thanks for tuning in we certainly appreciate you go to the cvpn.com check out all the wonderful podcasts we have over there and
Starting point is 00:17:30 we'll see you tomorrow thanks for tuning in see you next time
