Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi folks, Chris Voss here from thechrisvossshow.com, thechrisvossshow.com. Hey guys, welcome to the show. That was fun. Happy Friday. Holy crap, it's Friday. This is the second part of our similar show that we do where we talk about producthunt.com. We take a look at some of the different aspects or things that might stick out for you on or similar show that we do where we talk about ProductHunt.com. We take a look at some of the different aspects or things that might stick out for you on Product Hunt.
Starting point is 00:00:30 And we did the news earlier, so be sure to check that show out too as well. It's October 4th, 2019, and there's a lot of cool things on Product Hunt today that I find incredibly interesting. Let's get into some of it. Now, they are already announcing on Product Hunt some of the upcoming launches they're going to take and do. And I'm really interested in this one. It's a company called Mirror Trip, one-way car rentals at round-trip prices. If you're familiar with renting cars, like say you need to go, you know, if you want to go on vacation, you know, you leave your place, you take a rental car, you come back, drop it off at the same place you picked it up, you're done.
Starting point is 00:01:13 Costs you, you know, $30 a day, $50, $100 a day, depending upon the size of if you take that car someplace and don't bring it back, you end up charging buttloads more, like five, six times more to do that. Same sort of journey just because you don't bring the car back. It's quite the angle. It's quite the moneymaker, I believe. It's the same thing with U-Haul and other places. If you've got a U-Haul truck, you take it one way, they charge you $5 billion. You pretty much half buy the truck. But if you bring it back, then, oh, that's $30.
Starting point is 00:01:51 So I like this. This is a company called Mirror Trip. And I guess they're launching tomorrow on, what is it, on Product Hunt. So it's a new startup focused on eliminating one-way car rental fees. And the world's first for inner-city one-way travel, Mirror Trip is a car rental solution that's secure that connects you to other people to turn one-way trips into around trips
Starting point is 00:02:17 so you can avoid drop-off fees. I think that's pretty darn cool. I'm not sure how this whole thing's going to work and what's going to go on with it. But I definitely am interested to see what's going on that way. Wow, excuse me. You can create a page, I guess, on their website for a landing page that helps you find other people who also might be traveling one way. You know, I love using rental cars rather than my cars because
Starting point is 00:02:45 the great thing about rental cars, if it gets crashed on the road or highway, you get dings, crack windshields. You know, there's all sorts of crazy stuff, especially in the West that can happen when you're going state to state. I love rental cars because if it breaks down, it's not my problem. God, if you break down your rental car in some of these, or your personal car in some of these areas, wow. It's just not good for you financially. So I like rental cars. They make it very easy, very quick. I don't have to worry about it breaking down.
Starting point is 00:03:17 They're usually new. I can zip-a-dee-da-da, boom, boom, into my thing. A lot of times, sometimes i'm flying to a place like for instance recently i went to cd a show the cd expo 2019 and i really wanted to uh fly there to make sure i got there on time so there's no problems but then i was like you know it'd be nice just to kind of drive back take my time check out the sites see the see the sites um but i can't do that because you know it's going to cost the fortune to do it and i gotta bring the car back and it just really is stupid that if i don't bring the car back at 600 bucks but if i do it's 30 bucks or 60 bucks or whatever uh just makes no freaking
Starting point is 00:03:58 sense to me uh other than enriching people that do this business so this is a new startup that can make that work for you. I'm going to be kind of interested to see what it does, how it does, and how popular it can possibly be with its setup. So they even have an iPhone app and a Google app. You should check that out. I'm excited to see what they're going to be launching tomorrow and how it's going to come out that way.
Starting point is 00:04:23 So let's talk about some other things that we found on Product Hunt. If I can get my Product Hunt page to kick up here, blah, blah, blah. For some reason it canceled out the old one and put a new one in. Today, this is pretty interesting. I thought this was kind of interesting. Instagram stories scheduling have been launched from buffer. So if you have a buffer app account, uh, I use mine. I like buffer. I've been with buffer, I think since the very beginning. Um, and I was one of their, in fact, I was one of their initial influencers, uh, for buffer that they came to and said, Hey,
Starting point is 00:04:59 we'll give you the product for free. Would you kind of, you know, talk it up and all that good stuff we had. Uh, I think their vice president or president on the show, CEO on the show, a long time ago on the podcast. So really cool stuff that goes on with Buffer. And they made it so you can do the Instagram story scheduling. The thing I still hate, you know, and this is a fault of Instagram, is their API won't let you just auto schedule you what it does is you set up everything you program everything to get ready to schedule it but you still have to push the final button so the schedule will tell you a message at the time you want to send it say hey by the way open your Instagram
Starting point is 00:05:38 press the button or you know open buffer and press the button I really wish it would just bloody send it, but I guess whatever. I don't make all the rules. The people of the gold do, so there's that. Let's go down the line here of some other things that really stuck out to me on Product Hunt. I really, really, really, really like this. As you probably know, I'm a dog lover. I have two beautiful huskies,
Starting point is 00:06:00 and I've had two beautiful huskies in my life, rotation of lives, if you will, over the last, jeez, what is it, 20 years or something plus? So I like dogs. I like taking dogs with me. I like animals. I'm really big on animals. In fact, I found a almost dead caterpillar today that my dog was killing and chewing up. And I was trying to save it from him, but my dog wouldn't let me catch him. And by the time I got to the poor cow, the caterpillar was
Starting point is 00:06:28 just done. My dog killed him. And I was like, no, it's a living animal. No. I mean, if you're an animal lover, you, you kind of respect most all animals when it comes down to it. Uh, so anyway, there is a new sort of, uh, thing that's out there. It's animals on Airbnb experiences. So Airbnb, you're familiar with them. They have this experiences sort of thing that people can buy into where it's just not like you going and staying at someone's place and you're like, yeah, hey, thanks for letting me crash there and have sex in your bed and then leave. Um, this is, this is a thing where you can go and experience animals. Like if you want to hang out with a bunch of goats and shit and what it does is it helps people who are taking care of animals like sanctuary things, rescue sort of
Starting point is 00:07:18 things where they're like, Hey, we rescue animals. You can go hang out with the animals that they're rescuing, uh, local hosts who are caring for the welfare of these animals. I can go hang out with the animals that they're rescuing, local hosts who are caring for the welfare of these animals. I think this is awesome because it helps you fund the people who are helping animals. What a brilliant idea. You go to Airbnb to check this out.com. And they do have to follow world animal protection guidelines. So like that to make sure that you know these animals aren't you know and when you leave they're just thrown in cages i mean like we'll wait till someone shows up and then we'll let you out and pretend like everything's fine um so animals on airbnb experiences that's number three on product hunt pretty darn cool uh there's also something i
Starting point is 00:08:03 suppose you should bring it up this really isn't up my wheelhouse. It really doesn't make it work for me much. But it is called Flipit 2.0. You can create custom apps without code. It's got a drag-and-drop sort of procedure where you can build an app with no-code app editors, and open-source components, enabling everyone to create apps without running against feature limitations, using a library of prefabricated components to create your own. So this is kind of interesting. Fliplet.com.
Starting point is 00:08:35 It's number two on the charts. You know, I'm not a big app guy, so what do I know? There's something else that's kind of interesting. Cluster cards, too. Does anybody still use business cards? I know. There's something else that's kind of interesting. Cluster cards, too. Does anybody still use business cards? I do. I actually go to shows and collect them. But I make sure that when I come home, I usually have my pocketed collection of all of them.
Starting point is 00:08:55 And when I come home, I make sure and scan them all, follow the people on LinkedIn or wherever they're popular. Usually LinkedIn is the one place I go for. And just make sure that I follow up on those leads. You're an idiot if you collect all those business cards and all those contacts and you mean to throw them in the garbage. That's just dumb. So you can check it out, Cluster Cards 2. It's a business scanner.
Starting point is 00:09:22 Unfortunately, it's only on iOS, so i was disappointed by that because i want to have it on the other but you know i get why people do this uh ios is a pretty simple platform don't take a launch on and uh so people do it so there you go uh this is also interesting if you're a plant lover uh if you've got a green thumb i might go on here to try and figure out how to get my plants to live there is a new app which is a community for plant lovers called can candid candide candide i think it's candide uh k c it's like candy with i'd at the end without the y candide gardening.com candid gardening candid gardeningcom. I don't know how to pronounce it. Now I get paid for this. So it's an app for everyone interested in plants. Like if you've got a green thumb and you're a green thumber, you might want to have a look at, but as long
Starting point is 00:10:19 as it's from plants, you're probably okay. If you have any other appendages to your body that are green, go see a doctor first, unless you know that you were just out mowing or picking plants or something. But otherwise than that, if you have a green thumb and you haven't been picking plants, see medical help.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Anyway, so any gardeners can go on in this community. They can share tips answer questions love gardens they can fight over which is better god damn it basil basil's way better than mint you motherfuckers and like the mint people can all be like up in arms going how dare you speak that way about mint everyone knows mint is way better than basil i I mean, basil, what is it good for? Putting it next to cheese with olive oil and tomatoes and some sort of caprese salad? You don't want to do that with mint because mint's better than that. Mint doesn't want to be sopped into some soaking slop of oil, vinegar, and mozzarella cheese and tomatoes and shit, mint's got its own fucking game, man,
Starting point is 00:11:29 you don't, mint doesn't go anywhere, mint's special, mint goes into jelly for pork, and lamb, no, not for pork, for lamb, goes into mint jelly for lamb, it's for very picky eaters, mint goes into gum, everyone loves gum. Who doesn't love gum? So, you know, there's probably a lot of trolling that's going to go on there. Probably some, meet me out back and I'll beat the mint out of you or something. When green thumb gardeners go violent. So, anyway, you can rake that you can rake that over in your mind and see what you think about candida or candida i don't know man come up with a name that people
Starting point is 00:12:17 can pronounce people when you're making these apps that's all i ask of you is it that hard? Um, this is interesting. Yeah. I remember looking at this for a second. Oh yeah. This is the Eterniva Memorial diamond where, oh man, this is so, I don't even know, man. I don't want to go here, but, uh, for entertainment purposes only, I don't even know, man. I don't even want to go here. For entertainment purposes only? I don't know. This is the Eterniva Memorial Diamond.
Starting point is 00:12:50 I probably should be respectful because maybe there are people that someone dies and they'd love to have their ashes turned into a diamond. I don't know, man. I've had a lot of people die. Never once have I thought I should turn that into a diamond ring. But you can go to their website at eterniva.com. They celebrate remarkable people and pets. You can take and put your dog's ashes into a diamond.
Starting point is 00:13:17 And you can turn their ashes into diamonds through a storytelling journey as special as the loved one and the diamond itself so hmm would you do that write me at twitter at chris boss uh and uh also i wonder how much this costs this was gotta be like expensive there's gonna be like levels i know there is oh holy crap, $29.99 to get my dog turned into a diamond, what the fuck, do I have to come back like 10,000 years later after the diamond has been compressed and shit, like I'm not making fun of you if you did this, but $29.99, go buy 10 dogs from the pound and save them from euthanasia and create a rescue for them in honor of your dog, man. What do you need a diamond for?
Starting point is 00:14:16 Holy shit. Then what happens? Everybody you know has a diamond. They take off the ring, lose the ring and diamond, or the diamond falls out of its setting. And then they go, diamond. Seven to ten months it takes to complete these diamonds. The ashes or hair needed is only two tablespoons to half a cup. Which I suppose is not too bad.
Starting point is 00:14:40 I have the ashes of my two dogs that have passed. Rest in peace. And, I mean, it's a pretty good-sized box. So I think what would be, you know, if I wanted to do this, it would be nice that I would still have a large portion of the ashes if you're only taking two spoons to half a cup. But, holy crap, three grand? Three grand. Wow. They isolate the carbon from the ashes.
Starting point is 00:15:12 Which is the starting material. That's kind of weird. I don't know how much of this is my dog at the end. I don't know man. If you like it. You can buy it. And it's your money. You can do what you want. It's a free country. Have fun with that. I don't know, man. If you like it, you can buy it. And it's your money. You can do what you want.
Starting point is 00:15:26 It's a free country. Have fun with that. I don't know. I don't know, man. I'm reluctant to judge that, although it makes me just kind of go, really? But, you know, then I said the same thing about dog owners who stuff their dogs so they still look like they are when they pass away. I actually thought about doing it. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:15:48 I'm a sucker for my dogs, so it's hard to determine what I really should do or want to do or would do. You know, I mean, whatever. So there's that. Let's move on. This is kind of an interesting app. I kind of like this app. This is called Do It Cam.
Starting point is 00:16:10 And if you're listening, you're probably not reading it correctly. It's spelled D-U-E-T-C-A-M, not like Do It Cam. You're like, wow, is that another Tinder grinder app? What's going on there, Chris? Let's do it. It's like Tinder. If somebody says, I want to do it with this guy, and then the other person says, I want to do it with that person,
Starting point is 00:16:32 and then it's like, hey, guess what? You both want to do it. Meet in the dark alley. So anyway, Duet Cam, Duet, like as in a song, Duet Cam. You can go to duetcam.com, by the way. It's only on iOS, damn it. They've got a new operating system from Apple, iOS 13. It makes it so you can record videos using both sides of the camera at the same time. Save it to the device, share it online, or upload it to Instagram stories
Starting point is 00:17:03 so you can record the back camera and the front camera as well. Whoa. So there you go. Duet camera, two cameras recorded, and it's all in one video file, which if you're familiar with it, normally they don't do that anymore. They don't do it at all, actually. I don't think they ever started doing it so there's that uh let's take a look at some other different interesting things zen case has a new iphone 11 wireless battery case uh sleek
Starting point is 00:17:36 anti-slippery wireless charging case for photographers and uh basically it's a wireless case you can take and utilize that way as well. Those are some of the things that stuck out in my brain, some of the things that stuck with me on being offerings in the marketplace, and you can go to ProductHunt.com and see them, or you can reference some of the different websites that we did. I really do like the animals on Airbnb experiences. That sounds like really fun. I wonder if I could bring my dogs to meet other Husky dogs. It might be interesting,
Starting point is 00:18:08 although it might be dangerous too as well. If you like plants, you can go to CanDyed. If you want to make your dog an eternal memorial thing, you can do that as well on DruidCam. And you can take a look at other stuff as well. Yeah. So anyway, guys, thanks for tuning in. We certainly appreciate you guys. Be sure to tune in tomorrow for all the latest and greatest that we cover in the news, great interviews, and also product hunt news. Thanks for being here. We'll see you next time.
