Starting point is 00:00:00 let's get ready to rumble i'm gonna probably get sued for that hey welcome to chris fosh show the chris fosh show.com the chris fosh show podcast thank you you you right there no not you not you move over a little bit you this show's for you this show's for you right there it's just me and you mano a mano show to show right now the poor people on periscope are going why is there a green screen in the background i don't see the logo that they see on facebook live hey folks welcome to show the chris foss show.com be sure to go to the cvpn.com or chris foss podcast network all one word.com you can go on the air tubes and see that shit it's monday morning or for those of you who actually had a holiday it's still monday
Starting point is 00:01:00 morning but many of you will call it tuesday or as we like to call it, Taco Tuesday. Well, I just sidelined my whole thought process on the show. Tacos. Did you ever meet a taco that you didn't like? Is that even possible? Is that even possible? I don't know. I don't know. So, what do we got this morning? Welcome to your Tuesday, Monday, whatever you want to call it. Technically, life is going to tell you it's Tuesday, but for some of you, it's a Monday. And since you had a holiday, that means there's twice as much work. I don't even know why they brought up holidays. They just done it more work when you come back.
Starting point is 00:01:35 You're just like, and then you're even more brain-faced. You're just like, man, I drank way too much and ate too much barbecue over the holiday. And now there's two days of work instead of one. Yeah. So anyway, this is why I'm self-employed, so I don't have to deal with that bullshit. Let's talk about tech news and Product Hunt and other things, too. You never want to say that, Product Hunt, too fast because it gets weird.
Starting point is 00:02:04 So anyway, let's get into uh producthunt.com stuff that sticked out to the chris voss uh being that that being would be me of course you may have heard of me um last time i checked i was the only host of the show excuse me um so this is uh doing pretty well on product hunt this is calleduttercase 2.0. It's one of the things that stuck out to me. In fact, it's the only thing that stuck out to me today on Product Hunt. And if you have an iPhone, if you're an iPhone user, you know, I mean, I mean, you know, I get it. But if you're an iPhone user, thoughts and prayers, check out Shuttercase 2.0. You can go to shuttercase.com or amazon.com. I guess it's on there as well. If you go to shuttercase.com, you can check out this new
Starting point is 00:02:52 device they have that adds onto your iPhone or use like a case for your iPhone. And it kind of gives you the features that you would have with a SLR camera, DSLR, an SLR camera. You can tell how old I am. I actually used to own an SLR camera. Um, and, uh, what it does, it gives you like the little handle grip sort of thing, because if you've ever tried to take really good photos, one of the problems is when you, you know, you push that button, sometimes you push it, you push the whole camera out of focus or the camera scrambles because when you push it, you know, you jiggle it and, you know, it goes whatever. And then you end up with an out of focus picture. So this gives you like a grip thing that you can put on the unit, kind of like a case and you can hold it. You've got a shutter
Starting point is 00:03:35 button that you can go and click on. And it even comes like lenses. You can take an ad to it. You can, you know, screw them on the, on the lens cap there. And so it kind of gives you a little bit more feel of a DSLR, if you will. And there's no Bluetooth or ultrasonic connections. You're doing the click manually, I guess. And I guess, from what I can see, I mean, you do the click, and then there's a lightning connector plug that goes into the unit from the case. And I think that communicates with the iPhone to tell it to hit the shutter button. So pretty much interesting. There's no
Starting point is 00:04:12 third-party apps. That's kind of cool. I always hate third-party apps for cameras because a lot of people get them and they're like, this is really cool and they don't see that the resolution is like really downgraded and yeah, all that good stuff. So this is kind of interesting. It's made for mobile photographers and filmmakers, according to Prada Hunt. It enables you to shoot your iPhone with a patented mechanical shutter button and removable camera grip,
Starting point is 00:04:35 300 milliamp hour bedded battery. And it'll work with your Moment M lens interface. So I guess they don't sell the lenses for it that will screw on, but Moment M, if you've seen or heard of them, they're a pretty good company. We've tried to get them to review on the Chris Voss show, but I guess we're too good for them or they're too good for us. None of us have decided.
Starting point is 00:04:56 I don't know why people do that. Anyway, they are number four product of the day. Behind door number four is Sh case 2.0 so the price is right bitch anyway uh they've got about 81 upvotes on product hunt if you're an iphone uh thing you can uh lover you can go check that out and all that good stuff that was kind of the only thing i i saw that really stuck out for me on product hunt today although they have a lot of good things. And what you may like is, you know, could be patently different than what I like, but that still makes you wrong. Anyway, I'm sorry. That wasn't nice, Chris. Anyway, let's move on to some of the other news of the day, stuff that's
Starting point is 00:05:41 sticking out. Really interesting stuff here coming up. And as always, subscribe to the day stuff that's sticking out really interesting stuff here coming up and as always subscribe to the show so that you can get all the different news coverage we do usually when i have news that means i usually don't have an interviewee we had a really good interviewee last week steven coon you got to check out that interview with him uh especially the last half the last half we got really we are really deep and talked about some really significant stuff some book recommendations and i gotta tell you it's one of the best interviews i've had in a long time and he's a really great guy you'd always tell uh my favorite interviews and the ones that do really well because they go on for like an hour and a half sometimes two hours so that's usually a sign it's a sign from chris boss anyway guys uh let's get into some of this other stuff here and the news.
Starting point is 00:06:28 And this is from Bloomberg. Samsung, this is from sources, so it's kind of a rumor. Samsung plans to unveil a 6.7-inch phone. I hope they have it certified because usually when people are bragging about 6.7 inches, it's not really 6.7 inches, but I think that's different. It's going to shrink to a pocketable square when folded inward like a clamshell early next year. Wait, didn't we have those like in the 90s with the Nokia phones that would clamshell and fold up? We're going back to that?
Starting point is 00:07:04 Is that like when video games went from 4k back to eight bit? Hmm. I'm not sure. Are we advancing in the future or not? Probably not. Uh, but that's okay, man.
Starting point is 00:07:16 Cause the future is going to come as I, as one of my favorite quotes that comes from, uh, uh, no country for old men. Uh, it's one of my favorite sayings comes from, uh, uh, no country for old men. Uh, it's one of my favorite sayings. The guy says, uh, you got what a lot of people have in this country. Um, you can't stop what's coming. It all waiting on you. That's vanity. So whatever's coming, it's coming. So we're just, we're just along for the rollercoaster ride Fasten your seatbelts, keep your arms, hands, and legs inside your cabin at all times,
Starting point is 00:07:48 and wait until the pilot turns off the unfasten your seatbelt signs. And if that's happening, you're probably not in the plane anymore. Let's put it that way. Why are we segueing this way, Chris? I don't know. Anyway, YouTube blog, according to YouTube, I guess I have to care what they think for five seconds. YouTube blog has removed, not the blog itself, just YouTube, has removed 100,000 plus videos and 17,000, holy crap, channels for hate speech,
Starting point is 00:08:26 five times more than in quarter one since implementing changes to hateful content policy in June. This really tells us, guys, how out of control and how seeded with this president has been with making YouTube and other places just rife with the rise of white nationalism, with the rise of racism. If you go to the Southern Poverty Law Center, you can see how much hate these groups expanded starting in 2015-16.
Starting point is 00:08:59 So this is pretty interesting. And, of course, you've had the FBI confirm that as well. So this isn't political or some crap I'm making up uh it is out of control and it's out of control in other countries as well so uh they remove these things and uh they say they redouble their efforts to live up to their responsibility uh this is going to be an interesting thing i was also just reading i believe in the daily beast this morning that the, um, well, there's two different stories, uh, and this is political, but I'm going to, I'm going to get to this because this is social media and all that good stuff. The, uh, there's a lot of Trump cohorts
Starting point is 00:09:34 that are raising $2 million to attack. Um, I guess they're going to create a super PAC or a PAC to attack journalists who write badly about Trump. So that's really interesting and fascist. And then in co-news with that, basically what they're going to put on the political agenda is to attack social media and social media platforms, Silicon Valley. So they're going to go into YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter and say, these guys are dialing back conservatives and all that sort of stuff. So watch for that. See how that works out. It's going to be interesting how that impacts technology.
Starting point is 00:10:10 It's going to be interesting in how that impacts rights, how that impacts Silicon Valley, how that impacts how we utilize these social media platforms, Facebook, Twitter, and everything else. So keep that in mind. Keep your eye on it, and it will be interesting to see. And evidently, the way it's shaping out, we're going to hear about it in political ads ad nauseum.
Starting point is 00:10:31 So have fun with that. You may want to invest in some really good earplugs. In fact, the Chris Vos show has some good earplug reviews. Go ahead and search for them. There's one that I love using. I can't remember. I believe it's called Snap-on or something like that. Just search for it on the Chris Vos show.
Starting point is 00:10:44 You'll find it. Firefox has launched firefox 69 i gave it a little bit when i saw it and read it um uh okay all right yeah pervy mind way to go chris uh arrives now and blocks third-party tracking cookies fingerprinting and crypto mining by default it automatically blocks that stuff. So that's kind of interesting. Remember some of the stories we covered in the Chris Foss Show podcast a few weeks, and if you miss them, you're just not spending enough time listening to the show. So thoughts and prayers, and see if you can work on that.
Starting point is 00:11:20 But we talked about how Google kind of gaslit the industry with this whole thing where they talked about how they were just came down from the mountain, the holy mountain, and they had decided they were going to start, you know, limiting cookies and blocking third party cookies and all this sort of stuff. But what it really came down to was a veiled way of them trying to get away with, we're going to make it harder for everybody else to track everyone so that we can track everyone and make more money selling it to those people we block that are getting it now tricky they call that the um they call that the twitter developer betrayal where they let developers run the api and show them how to actually use the service in the in the uh in
Starting point is 00:12:03 the clown car that is twitter that crashed into success no matter how stupidly they tried to drive it um to destroy it actually really when it came down to it um but uh and then when all the developers showed them how to use and make twitter successful and how to make it really awesome uh then they went fuck you we're cutting off your api and we're gonna keep all your shit and ideas and take it with us. Huh? Bye. Don't wait for the checks to come in. Anyway. Uh, so that's that with that. Um, Firefox way to go. This is kind of interesting story. Axios has put this story out today. Podcasting startup Himalaya overstated its $100 million fundraise in February as it did not even have that much money in hand, nor were all the stated investors on board. They had to pull
Starting point is 00:12:56 back their PR announcement. I remember seeing this announcement and I signed up for Himalaya and I had trouble just getting that to work. And then I finally got on there and I was like, how do I get the Chris Voss show on here? Cause you know, we're always looking for more places to syndicate. And I was trying to figure it out. And I'm just like, how is this website functioning this shitty and poorly? And they have a hundred million dollars. And I'm like, well, maybe they just got it and they just haven't invested in the website or something yet i was like hmm this doesn't make any sense and i kept coming back for a couple weeks uh checking in being like whatever and i think i finally i think i wrote them and then i find they finally got like the chris fosh show on there but there's seven
Starting point is 00:13:38 others and then i was like uh okay so i you know i don't know, I don't know, man, I don't know. That's all I know is I don't know. So anyway, they kind of, uh, they kind of try to fake it till you make it evidently and they get caught with their hand, the till, and now they're getting called out for it. Uh, you know, this is the thing, man. Uh, don't be lying. I realized that lying is becoming popular since the head of the third world country can't up his mouth without doing it. And this is one of the sad facts that's having in our society and culture. People think if you want to become president or get ahead, lie, cheat, steal, don't pay your vendors, etc., etc. And then just file bankruptcy when you're caught.
Starting point is 00:14:18 So this Himalaya thing, I don't know, man. You lose a lot of trust in bullshit like this when it goes down in these people. And they've certainly lost my trust. They waste a lot of my time, which I'm kind of angry about. So I hope they figure out what they're doing. But as always, with all these things, caveat m-tour, as they say in Latin. I'll let you find Latin on the world map. You just go to the, I think it's the country Latina, Latinina, Latina. I think it's Latina. I think if you find that country on the map, go find it. I'll give you $5,000 if you find Latina on the map or wherever Latin.
Starting point is 00:14:58 I don't know. I'm just kidding. I'm kidding. And I don't have $5,000 anyway. And if I did, I wouldn't give it to you. It's kind of interesting. NBC News is reporting growing number of Americans over 50 play video games as a way to remain socially connected and cognitive and sharp
Starting point is 00:15:19 in summer-finding stardom. Wait. Hold on. One of those guys is me. Oh, shit. stardom wait hold on one of those guys is me oh shit I just read a story about me without realizing it's about me I'm 51 Wow okay good to know I'm keeping up with my peer group. Oh, did they quote me in the story? Uh,
Starting point is 00:15:51 so anyway, it tells the story of Audrey Buchanan, 88. She's put more than 3,500 animal or hours into animal crossing and, um, to connect with her grandson. And I guess she's now really popular. So granny granny Instagram, granny Twitch or granny mixer.
Starting point is 00:16:09 In fact, if you get a chance to subscribe to Chris Voss one on mixer.com, we're doing a lot of broadcasting over there with games and different reviews. We just got done reviewing, um, rec fest, which is pretty awesome.
Starting point is 00:16:21 Demolition Derby game. Uh, it's, it's not pretty awesome. It's freaking awesome. It's one of my favorite new games. new games so uh watch for us over there and we'll be doing that because i want to be one of the americans over 50 according to nbc news to play video games as a way to remain cognitive socially connected and uh sharp which i don't know if they tested but if they watch my channel it's clearly not working for me.
Starting point is 00:16:47 I need help. It's getting old. Shit's getting old. Anyway, so that's kind of interesting. Another thing that's up on the marketplace, crunch-based news. Alex Wilhelm is reporting the CloudFlare sets an initial price range of $10 to $12 per share for its IPO, which will value the company at $2.9 billion and $3.5 billion between those two,
Starting point is 00:17:12 and could raise over $400 billion. Will they take a check? So CloudFlare is pretty cool. They're a content delivery and internet security firm. So I like CloudFare. I use it on the Chris Voss show and some of our other properties. Certainly a great way to get your SSL certificate done. At least I'm, you know, I'm lazy, so I use them for that. You can do it differently, but whatever. I'm lazy. But yeah, they make sure and protect the websites and all
Starting point is 00:17:42 that sort of good stuff from all the ugly critters that are out there in the world, because there's a lot of ugly critters. You know, it's kind of funny, the Chris Voss show before we picked up cloud fair, we were getting attacked like daily by China, Russia, North Korea,
Starting point is 00:17:58 just like Korea, I guess it's probably North Korea, all sorts of weird places around the world. We're getting attacked and the attacks just keep getting worse and more often. But right before we picked up Cloudflare, we were getting, we were starting, it wasn't really a DDoS, but whoever was hammering us was hammering really hard to do an SQL injection and different things. Recently, one of the biggest things I've been seeing is lockout of IP addresses of people
Starting point is 00:18:26 trying to get into the chrisfossshow.com. It's really, really freaking interesting. If you've never looked at it, I think we had WordFence and it still runs on the Chris Foss Show. We had WordFence that was giving us all the reports and stuff. And it was just, wow, man. You just look at it every day and just be like, I'm really not that popular. I don't know. Like, I don't know why China thinks I'm this cool, but, you know, they seem to ping me more than everyone else does. So, you know, my girlfriend doesn't even want anything to do with me
Starting point is 00:19:00 that much, as much as China does. So, I don't know. I don't have a girlfriend. I'm still happy. When I get tired of it, I'll settle down. So anyway, this is kind of interesting. Again, this is from Wirecutter. We've talked about this in the podcast several different times.
Starting point is 00:19:15 If you haven't seen it, get a chance to check it out. Go back and listen to the old archives. You might learn something. This is a review of Neighbors. It's the Rings Neighborhood Watch feature. It's the Ring's Neighborhood Watch feature. It's great for locals concerned about crime, but its privacy policy is lacking, and it's not really opt-in. You know, I actually kind of like the Ring.com thing. I don't know what the privacy issues are. I'm going to have to read the whole article. You may want to read it
Starting point is 00:19:40 on Wirecutter by Rachel Ciercola, I believe, if I'm pronouncing her name rightly. Hopefully I am. But I like watching it. I like knowing what crimes are going on in the area. It was really popular for me in Vegas to know what crimes are going on in the area. I'll tell you a funny story. Here in Utah, where it's fucking lame as shit, you know how lame it is? Like in Vegas, I would see in the neighborhood watch thing um for my ring i would see uh you know like people really stealing shit stealing shit off your front lawn
Starting point is 00:20:13 porch pirates for amazon um i would see uh you know people trying to break into a home and crap front back um and uh you know as soon as you see the ring they usually run off but some people are pretty brazen man they just they just go with it i mean they don't even bother taping the ring like you think they'd be smart but i mean that's why they're criminals they're not smart that's why they usually end up in jail eventually too uh so i like watching it but i would see like oh the other thing is people breaking into cars. That's a big thing in Vegas now. They don't really break in your car so much as they just open it. And if you leave it open, they just go through, you know, whatever.
Starting point is 00:20:54 And then they steal your garage door opener, and then they try and come back when you're not around. Hey, Google, stop. Kind of love, hey, Google, alarms. So there's that, man. so anyway, what's really funny, the story I was trying to get to, I don't need a girlfriend or a wife, I have Google, my apologies, I don't understand, sometimes, man, I'm a polygamist, too, I got two women in my life that well i actually have four i have two dogs that are female so those are the two women in my life and then
Starting point is 00:21:31 i got the a l e x a and the g o o g l h o m e so i don't need a wife or girlfriend at this point, really. Anyway, the story. Get back to the story, Chris. The story is here in Utah, when you look at the Ring Neighborhood videos, you know what they all are? I'm not even shitting you. I'm not shitting you. Doorbell ding. Doorbell ditching.
Starting point is 00:22:03 Doorbell ring ditching. Ring ditching. Doorbell ding dong. Is that doorbell ring ditching ring ditching doorbell doorbell ding dong is that what they used to call it so anyway when we were kids and keep in mind this is 40 motherfucking years ago uh that's what you did because you didn't have the internet back then you didn't have you didn't have anything you just had like dirt clods and shit now if you want to watch a video game you just went i'm gonna take this dirt claw and throw it against the wall and watch it splatter and then you're like oh i think i'm gonna chase some some uh i forget what they call them there's little things that used to dig into mountains and stuff and in hills you go try and catch them because there was no internet so um
Starting point is 00:22:47 doorbell ditching doorbell ding ditching ding dong ditch it seems like it was called so anyway um ding dong ditch i think that's one of the term i was looking for so that's what we did we toilet papered houses oh and that's that's the other thing we toilet paper houses and we ding dong ditch and that's what we did for fun so the two major things that i see on ring neighborhood watch in utard is ding dong ditch and that's like most of them and then i saw one tp here and i'm just like seriously you know this is i'm up in a state where most people used to be most of the people let their doors open like you can you go down the block on sundays and just open everyone's door and
Starting point is 00:23:29 you know they'd be a church and shit um yeah that's when you uh whatever man i don't know what to tell you about that so uh small town small town but yeah it's kind of interesting so uh yeah if you have ring.com you can can check them out. We recently asked Ring to send us their latest update ring thing, and they're busting my balls about, you know, that we're not the New York Times and the Washington Post. So, good job, Google. Way to go, man. I sold so many of those damn rings when they first came out to my neighbors
Starting point is 00:23:59 and my family and everything else. Probably could have made a fortune in affiliate sales. So, anyway, check that out uh it's kind of interesting what's going on there uh last but not least up on tech crunch there's the small business land loan platform called cabbage with a k you've probably seen the different videos and ads running around it's got that guy that's so famous from office space i think it ruined his career uh because he got typecast uh he was the guy who would always be like okay so if you just get around to doing those tps reports that'd be great i can't even do that but uh yeah so it was that guy he does the cabbage commercials uh evidently
Starting point is 00:24:41 they've acquired radius intelligence it's a marketing tech firm with a database of 20 million small and medium businesses in the US and I guess what they're going to do is go mine that database so smart for them small business loans and all that good stuff so I guess if you have pretty good credit you want a small business
Starting point is 00:25:00 loan you can go hit those babies up and see what you think anyway that's the news that kind of I looked over today that stuck out to me, and that's my take on it and everything else. Be sure to go to thecvpn.com, Chris Voss Podcast Network. It's actually a network like CBS and whatever and whatever. It's a network, which means there's more than one, but they're shared together by a symbiotic journey of pairing. Yeah, so you can go check those out.
Starting point is 00:25:35 There's like a crypto podcast. There's an ARVR podcast. There's a gaming podcast. There's a politics podcast. Politics. What else is there? There's a gaming podcast there's a political politics podcast politics um what else is there there's a bunch of other stuff there's seven podcasts so go check them out we're even thinking about starting a cbd uh weed podcast because evidently and they'll probably be targeting um investing in uh pot stocks so there'll be some interesting stuff there. We had somebody on recently who was a, actually a big capital investor for pot stocks. And, uh, uh, he has some interesting insight into
Starting point is 00:26:12 what's going on in the market. And to me, I don't really want to sit and talk about like, Hey man, these cookies are great. Um, I want to talk about, you know, what the future is. I mean, certainly this is a market that's expanding. And according to him, who appeared on our podcast, you can go back and check it out. He said, uh, uh, we eat in pot is like the second and interested is like the second most thing next to porn porn's like number one search. And then we bought whatever marijuana is the number two search. And, uh, I'm sure over the next few years, we're going to see more and more States opening up. And to me, I'm interested in the investing infrastructure, the marketplace that's going to come from that, the money. It's a hell of a business right now in states that are legal. And the cash flow is crazy and it's all cash because they can't put it in a bank.
Starting point is 00:27:01 So it's just freaking insane where this emerging market is going, if you will. So be sure to check that out. And, um, it will be launching one of those. I'm, I, it's on the, uh, it's on the cooker and I think I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger on it. Uh, may have to come up with a really good name or something. If you have a good name, you can go to twitter.com for it says Chris Voss and say, Hey Chris, here's a good name. If you think you want to be on the chrisvossshow.com, send me an email, get in touch with me, reach out across any of the different platforms that are out there and I'll consider it. Starting point is 00:27:39 podcast. Be sure to give the show a wonderful review on iTunes, Google Play, or any of the platforms to help us get some reach with it.
