The Chris Voss Show.com. The Chris Voss Show.com. Hey, we're at Stewart Film Screen booth here at
Cedia 2019. We're at booth number 2304. Hey, you can see these guys just as you walk in the expo.
So, very first thing you're going to see, I'm sitting here with Mary, who's the owner,
I believe CEO of Stewart Film Screen. How are you doing, Mary? Hey, Chris, I'm doing great.
Awesome sauce. So, you guys have got some really beautiful stuff going on here in the
booth can you give us a lowdown on who Stuart film screen is well we are
producers of professional projection screens we've been manufacturing since
1947 and our claim to fame of one of our many claims to fame, is we make completely seamless products, 40 by 90, unheard of in the industry, unmatched in the industry.
What's new at the show is our new Ballon Edge.
This is part of our Ballon series, and today we're looking at our Ballon Edge, and this is the very first screen made by Stewart Foam Screen of the Ballon Edge.
It was a really touch and go to get this screen here for the show, but we're really excited to have it here. Awesome sauce. It is an extension of our Ballon Series line and this screen features a
black frame which is 0.4 inches wide. We offer this frame in a Velux border, a light deadening, it's a
light deadening material. We also have it in a brushed aluminum. This particular
screen can go 9 by 16 completely seamless and we also features all of our
16k reference screen fabrics that we make at StirrFoamScreen. Wow, so what do
you usually market to?
Do you market to consumers or businesses
that resell your product, or what's your guys' market base?
Well, we have the full gamut.
We are certainly in the residential space.
We are very big on commercial as well.
We sell to theme parks, big, huge universities.
We also do aerospace so we
we cover everything. We cover all the markets. All right and so do you guys do
you guys make things custom I guess and you also make premade stuff? This is what
separates Stewart from Screens from everybody else is we are completely
custom. All our screens are handmade at our
facility in Torrance, California or Cincinnati, Ohio where we do all our custom glass work.
So each screen is made for each particular customer for each specific venue. So when you
guys make these screens, you know, you make them so that people project on them. They need a
projector and all that good stuff. So what separates you guys from your
competitors, would you say? Well I think what really separates us from our
competitors is we make our own screen materials and all our competitors buy
their screen materials from manufacturers in China and their
screen material is manufactured on calendar rolls, calendar rolls of vinyl.
And their fabrics are used for making tents or making car seats or pond liners or many things.
And all of our fabrics are made for only one reason, and that is to give the best viewing experience.
Well, you guys being around since 1947 is probably really important to making great great products knowing what the best thing is to put into them and everything else.
What do you guys hope to achieve with the show? What is the outcome you're just looking for?
Well we are again featuring our new products with the Belon Borderless and also our new screen
the Lexus and we just want to get the word out to everybody about the fact that we can make any
custom screen, anything imaginable, that you come to Stewart From Screen for that.
So do you have a lot of vendors that resell your products or people that work in the AV
audio industry? They work with you to make the custom screens for their clients and get everything
exactly the way they want it? Well, that's again where we start. We need to have our dealers
that are very involved with their homeowners and they usually are
and because each homeowner has a specific need, a certain room, they're
trying to achieve a result and so they start meeting with the homeowner first
to find out what their needs are, what the environment's called for and then
they come to Stewart to be able to pick the absolute perfect screen for their
application. And forgive me, I think did you say how big this screen was by chance?
Well, this screen is about, gosh, I think it's about 110.
But we can go all the way from to 9 by 16 on this size screen.
So if you want to have a huge screen for your parties, your Super Bowl parties,
Super Bowl parties are coming up here. So if you want a big screen where you can really do it, and it's really thin, like it's
super thin and beautiful looking. So it brings out the colors and everything else. Is there any
other products you guys cover with the Stuart film screen or is it just film screens? Well,
we cover the full gamut. So we have fixed frame screens, many varieties.
We also have a lot of electric screens, retractable screens.
And retractable screens are wonderful because you can drop them down to watch your viewing
and then you hit a button and away they go.
Now, is that what we're seeing above us here?
Is that a retractable screen unit?
This is our new Lexus screen.
Okay. Yeah and this is a remake of a classic favorite called, oops I'm hitting the up button, let's hit the down button, of our Model A. Oh wow, look at that just coming right on down. That's beautiful. We completely redesigned this screen to give it this beautiful modern look. You can notice the brushed billet aluminum end caps,
which are very stunning. I love it with the aluminum end caps showing, but we can also
paint them the same color as the case. So we have, it comes in either black or white, or we could do
a custom color. The screen assembly in the old Model A, you'd have to take the whole screen down
and ship it back to us, but now you can reach the screen assembly, just take a couple screws and you can leave the screen
attached, which is great. All of our reference 16K materials are available on this screen.
And this screen can go as wide as 13 feet 3 inches. Wow. So you probably, do a lot of people
use your screens in like home theaters
and stuff when they put them in their homes. Absolutely. We can we cover the full gamut from
exclusive home theaters. We do of course everything in Hollywood, all the producers,
the directors. They all want to use Stuart every year for the Academy Awards. They come to Stuart,
you'll as you're watching the Academy Awards, you'll see our screens featured on the stage we are the screen of choice for
all pros production work is Stuart film screen I need to get one of those then
if Quentin Tarantino is watching your screens or you know Hollywood producers
are watching it I love seeing like beautiful movies and being able to watch
like all the all the chewiness of the visuals like one of my most recent favorite movies is Roma.
And there's so much black and white, you know,
that beautiful sort of cinematography that you have
with the Akira Kawasawa type movies.
And I've just got to watch it two or three times
just to look around at the background scenery
and how they use the black and white.
And to me, picture quality is everything, you know.
Being able to see the detail.
Sometimes when you're watching a small screen, you don't see some of the stuff.
Like with Hitchcock and different great producers, they always have stuff in the background.
They have little Easter eggs.
And you won't see those on the small screen.
And there's something about that's enthralling about a big screen that really takes you into a movie or TV experience. When you're watching on a small screen, there's kind of a meh to it.
And still watching stuff on a big screen, it just enthralls you.
It takes you over, probably because you don't have a lot to look at.
But it kind of gives you that feel in the movie, in the moment sort of experience with a movie or TV show.
Definitely. You can definitely get that big screen immersion and make a lot of people
happy all in the same room. And speaking back to the quality of the picture, the makers
of the content, they want to see their films exactly as they were designed to be seen.
So that's why they always come to Stir Up Film Screen because what we say our gain is,
they measure it and it is exactly what we say it is
many of our competitors will say it's a certain gain and it isn't so we really want to be able to
live up to the standards of our products so what's the future that you can tell us about
stuart film screw without revealing anything you know you're working on well we've had we've had a
lot of wonderful things happen to our phone screen We've just launched a brand new website, which is state-of-the-art, and that was launched on May 31st. That was a very big undertaking.
Anybody who has built a web site from scratch, we had a wonderful design company help us with
that and we're very proud. It's extremely consumer-friendly, easy to navigate. On top
of that, we also have a screen
assistant CPQ which is our configurator price quote so we can have our dealers
come on and configure a screen in minutes that used to take hours or days.
They can custom configure any screen that they want and it is a live drawing
and get a price. Awesome sauce. So anything more Mary we need to
know about you guys what you're doing at the show? We just like to invite
everybody to come over and see us at Stuart film screen and come and see our
wonderful products and we'd love to meet with you. Alright guys so come on down to
