Starting point is 00:01:32 their book's success. Today we're an amazing young man on the show. We're going to be talking about his insights and interests. His book is entitled The Origin of Everything by Vernel Moss. We're going to get into with him and all of his details and all that good stuff. Vernell was inspired to write his first children's book, Daddy, after his daughter asked why the son disappears at night. I should probably read that. I'm still trying to figure it out. The book explains the story of creation. In retirement, he turned to writing to explore the question. He first asked his parents as a child, how do we get here? And hopefully they told him about the stork. No, I'm just kidding. I just added that at the end. Welcome to the show of Renel. How are you, sir? I'm doing well. Doing stork jokes for birth. How are we here? Hopefully I pulled that joke off. Does any of remember those stork cartoons where the stork would drop off the baby? I was around that time. Yeah. I was delivered by a black swan store.
Starting point is 00:02:31 So give us a dot-com's websites. Where can people find out more about you on the interwebs? Right now, my site is not up, but it would be Vernel Moss at dot com. All right. And got to love it, make it easy and quick. With this book that we're talking about today, give us a 30,000 overview, what's inside the origin, of everything.
Starting point is 00:02:55 It starts with, when we think of origin, we think of the beginning of the cosmos, but actually it starts within our thought. Our curiosity, that's where it starts at. Then we goes to the cosmos and start from there to creation. And that's where everything's begin. You start asking questions. Yeah. And you had these questions, I guess, as a young boy.
Starting point is 00:03:21 And now you decided to answer them in this book, from what I understand. What did your parents tell you? What was your parents telling you at the time? Or did they have any answers? Yes. When I asked my mom, how did I get through? She said, it came from my dad and her. She told me. Then I said, okay, where my grandmother came from? She told me that. And I said, where my ancestor came from? She told me that. And I got real curious. I said, so where the man come from? She said, you told me the story, Adam and Eve. Okay. I said, now, what did God come from? She said, he always existed.
Starting point is 00:03:57 I said, he did. She says, yeah, you can see him in these clouds in creation. And for the longest time, I thought that I could actually see God in creation. I thought it wasn't a wind, but that wasn't what it meant until I started reading the Bible. And so when I got married and my stepdaughter, she asked me the same question. that's when I got curious. I said, wait a minute. She asked me the same question I asked my mom, so I told her the same story.
Starting point is 00:04:30 Oh, wow. Wow. And so did your daughter believe it? Yes. During that time, I was a Christian, and she would believe it because we was going to church. Okay. Then after that, I started, everybody was asking. I found out everybody was asking that same thing.
Starting point is 00:04:50 question. And my pastor was talking about it, but he never did. He never did tell me about the origin of it. So I got the searching scriptures and searching scriptures, and I've discovered it then. That's wonderful. You solved your own thing. And so what do you talk about in this book and guidance that you don't only give your daughter, but you give to other people as well? What I tried to tell them, first of all, I said I started some curiosity. And I created a equation. and its curiosity is the cause and science is the effect and religion and other philosophies are the results of that and I went back I turned it around and I said okay but all this starts with curiosity even your even the religion starts with curiosity so what I try to tell them is that I told her and
Starting point is 00:05:43 people I talked to about I said without curiosity there would be no religion or science anyway See? Hey, you do have to be curious. Yeah, that's where it began. About curiosity. Figure out things, yeah. And so you felt this message needed to be given more far and wide. What was the reason that you felt that people should hear these words and understand the concepts that you ascribe to?
Starting point is 00:06:07 I want people to know, first of all, I want them to understand the origin of curiosity and the origin of science. And to really, everyone discovering trying to find the truth. Everybody wants to know the truth. And that's what we hear further. Find out what is the truth. And you have everything I hear. So I say, hey, let's start with curiosity. If you want to know the truth, the audience of curiosity, then you can discover the truth.
Starting point is 00:06:35 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You got to discover truth and be curious and all that. Yeah. It's really important. And so you espoused these things in the book to children who ask their parents, how do we get here and kind of how we map through the whole thing and cause and effect, atheism, philosophies and all that good stuff.
Starting point is 00:06:58 Now, you mentioned, I think you mentioned something about when you were a Christian or used to be a Christian. Where do you find yourself now? And maybe I misheard that. No, what I was saying, when I became a Christian, I became a world of creation war. So instead of when my mom said God is in creation, I was thinking God was in creation, but when I read the scripture, it's saying that his invisible attributes are seen in creation, his wisdom and knowledge and understanding is real through creation. I give you an example. Everything we made, we made from creation, right? Creation reveals our attributes.
Starting point is 00:07:39 In the same way, God, creation reveals his attributes. attributes. And that's what I was, that's what I got out of it. If you will go to Genesis 1, 26, to 28, it says that God told me to subdue the earth and rule over animals. And the process is science, see, but you have to be curious about anything for you can rule over something. Yeah, totally, totally. And how long did it take you to write this book? A long time. I'm going to tell you. It took, it took, it took, it took, it took me about a year because I kept starting over. See, when I was getting more information, I have to change it. It's just like if you make something out of creation, you have to prove it.
Starting point is 00:08:24 As knowledge advances, you go back in and do it again. And that's what I had to do. Yeah. Now, let's talk about what do you hope people come away with when they read the book? What do you hope that they... I hope they will discover the truth and apply the truth to their lives. That's what I hope. I hope people can do. You have to decide what you believe. But my job and what I believe is that I believe in creation. I believe there's a God and many others too, but sometimes people believe in different gods. And as I tell people the God, three things about I knew about God. First about, in Genesis, it described me in purpose. And we are activities. displays our purpose and science defines our purpose. See, I believe that Christianity is the only religion that really described our purpose, and that's what we do, and science itself describes it. And so people can read through that in the book.
Starting point is 00:09:36 What is the relationship between curiosity, science, religion, humanism, and philosophy. Are they all connected? Some people are religious, don't believe in science, vice versa. What do you believe there? You know, actually, religions do believe in science. The ones that don't, they think evolution is science. But actually, like I said about my equation, science, religion, they coexist. The difference is how you view science.
Starting point is 00:10:08 I see creation of another person who see evolution. And that's the difference. Are they different or are they the same? No, no. There are, okay, creation believe that you was creation and evolution believes that you evolve. And both of them is about faith. Whatever you believe is about faith, because you had to be there to see it.
Starting point is 00:10:30 And we couldn't see it. However, you can see creation, can you? We observe creation every, all the time. we can see. We can deserve our purpose. We don't need signs to tell us how we got. We don't need signs to tell us our purpose to just observe what we do. And evolution says we don't have no purpose. Really? According to evolution, we just exist. We don't have a purpose but to survive. We do more than surviving. I think that's, we find a high calling in that, do good in the world, do good into others. Yeah. Our purposes give back to the world and different things
Starting point is 00:11:11 I think there's a service purpose. There's kind of one built in, especially to men, to be served, to give and serve and propagate and to take care of women and children. So I think that's a purpose in and of itself, whether you believe in a maker or not. We're certainly here, and we need to make the best of it while we're here. And I think a lot of people try and do that and try to find a purpose within that frame that I can't find a purpose to be an alien and fly in space and do whatever I want, I guess, with whatever powers
Starting point is 00:11:41 atheians have. So I'm kind of stuck in my little ant farm box here with everyone else and trying to make the best of it. But I think we have a purpose without religion. I'm an atheist. I have plenty of purpose without religion. I try and make the world a better place. I think the world is my family
Starting point is 00:11:56 and children. And I hope to leave it better off. And that's kind of one of the things I do through this podcast. And so, yeah. And I seem to have moral good than a lot of Christians we see in the world appearing on in the news. And I often ask myself, What would Jesus do?
Starting point is 00:12:11 These ancient tomes like the Bible and the Quran and you name it, whatever the variant of 5,000 religion and gods we've made over all these years, they're good tomes. They're like, they're basically how to live a healthy life and build good communities and don't kill each other, don't steal from each other and try and get along. And so those are good purposes as well. Build your family, raise your kids and stuff like that. But yeah, so I think there still is a purpose, I would say, if you don't believe in religion or if you just believe in science like myself.
Starting point is 00:12:41 But, you know, people need something to get through life. Life is a really horrific survival game. You or I could get run by a bus tomorrow in the worst of chance and awfulness and horrificness. And we don't get a choice in the matter. And that's a survival game. I just got ulcers on my fingers the other day and turns out I've got some new fun part of old age that deals with ganglion ulcers or something underneath my joints. I'm just having a blast.
Starting point is 00:13:10 Yeah, but you know what? What I forgot to tell you is that why? The question should be, why do we question our distance? Yeah. And now, me and myself, my parents were slave, my ancestors were slaves. So when I discovered that I was part of that, and I didn't know my accessory, you know what? I was questioning where I was from.
Starting point is 00:13:37 Okay. And if you take a, often that don't know his parents, he wanted to know where you're from. So my thing is, is why do we question our existence? And that's when we question our existence, we should ask why. That takes you further than, that take you more curious. And the thing is, is that we fly to religion for the answer. And religion and science is formed by the same questions we ask. See?
Starting point is 00:14:10 So I'm saying it has to be something more to question our existence than just that we do it because that's what we do. Well, we certainly can. Is it going to matter? I mean, not. If you ascribe to a certain religion, there's a joke South Park does where they make a joke where everyone finds out after death that Mormons were the correct religion. And it was like that Marx Brothers game show back in the day where you had to guess the word that the man had in his head. No one knew what was in Karl Marx's head.
Starting point is 00:14:43 Was it Karl Marx? Groucho Marx's head, Groucho. And you had to guess the word. And that's kind of how it was religion. Do I be a prescstarian? Do I do you a Christian? Do I be a Mormon? Do I do you be a South Baptist?
Starting point is 00:14:55 Do I be a believe in Buddha? Do I pick one of the 5,000 gods we've made over the years? and you could be wrong. I could be wrong too. As an atheist, I plan that when life ends, that ends. That doesn't make me bitter or angry. In fact, I'm going to behave worse. If anything, if anything, I want to make my memory and the mark I leave in the world
Starting point is 00:15:15 to be a better place than when I found it. But I could be wrong too. And then I'm going to hell or whatever sort of thing goes on over there. So, you know, I think making the best of what's here and being as best as we can do each other in emoticombs, integrity and honesty, trust, morality. We're morals. I think we can all agree there's certain morals.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Don't kill, don't steal. We have laws that support these morals. I think it can be either way. Why don't we, you're welcome to respond to that if you like, and let's move into your other book, too. Okay. What I want to do is, there's a scripture in the Bible that says, it's ecolastic 311, and it says that God could eternity in man's heart, but yet man cannot discover his work from the beginning to the end.
Starting point is 00:15:59 okay, when I looked at that scripture, I said, why would God put your eternity in my heart? Me and tell her and say, no, you can't discover my work from the beginning to the end. And what I discovered is this. To discover God's works begins with asking questions. How do we get here? What is our purpose? And children ask these questions and science ask the same question when they study creation. Now there's a passage in Job says, God says to ask you creation and they will tell you.
Starting point is 00:16:35 And the scientist does exactly what the Bible says they do. So what I'm saying is that's what made me, gave me confidence that in Christianity. Because what God says, man does. So when I saw that scripture, and when I read that scripture, it also remind me of when I asked my mom how I got you. So when I read that scripture, it says, when it said God says God put it in man's heart to discover able work done under the heavens. And that's what scientist does. And they begin with curiosity.
Starting point is 00:17:17 So I'm saying this is what curiosity comes from. I hear it. Yeah. Uh-huh. I totally agree. So let's talk about the daddy book. What's the official title in this? Oh, it's called Daddy.
Starting point is 00:17:28 Why? Daddy why? And the first story is that you know how the fall comes. And when the fall comes, the children have to go in the house early. The son go down real quick. And so my dad, my daughter, I said, it's time to come in the house. She said, I don't want to come. And I said, it's getting dark.
Starting point is 00:17:46 She said, Dad, where does son go at night? And my daughter, grandfather, live in Africa. My wife is from Africa in Ethiopia. And I said, the son never goes nowhere. I said, the earth shifts. The earth moves around. And right now the sun is in Ethiopia. Your grandfather is getting up now.
Starting point is 00:18:07 And so then that's when I told her how the solar system worked. Then I went through what scriptures that? I went through 14. God describes the two lights and everything. And I told her that's how it happens. And science discovers how it happens. And so is there in a certain age group that that is meant for? She was about five years old.
Starting point is 00:18:29 So I would say she was just, she was about to go to school. So I would say it's about five or six, six years old. Oh, wow. That's an age where you're starting to ask a lot of questions, trying to figure out how this crazy world works. And I need to read your book because I still don't know how it works. Let me tell you something else about the book. It's in color and it's actually us.
Starting point is 00:18:51 We are in it. We are characters of it. I had pictures and all like that. You look in the back, you'll see us. All right. And so I guess it was well received by the daughter, right? Hmm? I didn't hear you. I guess it was well received by the daughter. She loved the book. Oh, yeah, she loved the book. She almost wanted to start writing.
Starting point is 00:19:14 That's a good start. A lot of people start writing early, and it's a good sample. And I think writing stuff is so important. It's basically like, it's basically a way to develop your brain. you become self-aware. You understand who, all that stuff. Yeah. And so people get more of that book. Now, is there any future books you're working maybe on that series? Because, Daddy, why?
Starting point is 00:19:38 There's a million questions kids ask. So imagine you can write 50,000 books on. I was considering, she's in college now, but I was considering writing how. You know, then with science. And I'm working on another book as well at this moment. And it's called science, the knowledge of everything. But what I'm doing is I'm using the Bible, okay, and I'm using science,
Starting point is 00:20:07 and I'm putting it together as one. What God says, man discovers. You know, like, for instance, he says there's light, son, and go back to Genesis 114 when he mentions the light. And from the point from where we're looking at it, we think the sun moves east of the wits. But what I'm taking to another level, I'm describing the function of a son, but through man, through discovering, through signs. So I'm saying what God says man does, man describes. Wait, I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:20:49 where God describes, man defines the function of it. Okay. Okay. So that's what this book is about. Like, for instance, if you go to Genesis, it says that the earth was covered with water. Then it was divided. Okay. And science also says the same thing.
Starting point is 00:21:14 When I went back into study science, it says that, recently they said the air was covered with water. And the Bible says it too. So it says that the earth was surrounded by water. After the land was formed and the Bible says it too. And they said the continent drift that's in the Bible too. So what I'm doing is I'm using that. What I'm doing is connecting science with religion. Oh, okay. I see. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:46 That makes sense. That makes sense. they ask the same questions and and all that good stuff. It's great that says out there. Do you have a release date for any of the new books you're working on? I believe I would have a release date around November. Okay. I'm at the fourth or fifth chapter now. In my book, I'm not, basically I'm just going to talk about science and religion, how they coexist. Okay. Then I'm going to talk about, I make a chapter about discovering the truth, what is the truth, because that's what we're looking at. We said, what is the truth? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:26 And if you don't, and that is truth, we just got to discover what it is. Yeah. And regardless, I always tell people, if God don't exist, then guess what you just die? That's it. And if it does exist, then that's another story. I don't try to debate over what I believe because that's what I believe. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:22:54 Give people a final pitch out to pick up your book and dot com's websites, wherever it gets to know more about you. Yeah. It's everywhere right now. It's still unknown. But it's marketed everywhere. And I hope that when people read it, I'm not trying to make them a belief. but I'm making them aware of what I believe and allow them examine it for themselves. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:24 All you can do is bear witness and then let people, the cards fall where they may, I suppose. So thank you very much for coming to the show. It's been wonderful to hear you share your story and Vernal, and we'll look forward to your future works out there. All right. Thank you very much. Chris Vos. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:23:42 Chris. Almost like me, Mouse. Yeah. Yeah, we're just one digit off there, aren't we? You ever have people, for me, maybe it's because the Chris says an S on a two, but I have people that will spell my first name with two S's, and then they'll put one S on the Voss. Oh, it's Vos. Do you ever have people to do that to your Moss? No, but I want to one S on.
Starting point is 00:24:03 But you know what? This is what happened with me. I go to the store and the guy said, hello, boss. And they're saying boss. And I'm thinking they're saying Moss. I said, oh, he's saying boss. Or they might say, are you related to Randy Maher. Oh, Randy Moss, the, who's Randy Moss?
Starting point is 00:24:18 Who's a football player? Yeah. Yeah, he was a great football player too, I think if I recall really, don't I? He was a troublemaker as well, so. Yeah, most of them are troublemakers. Yeah, I would be too if I was, you know, you work really hard to get to that level, you have to practice hard, you got to do a lot of hard work. I grew up in the age of, I was, I'm a Raiders fan, so they're really brutal Raiders.
Starting point is 00:24:41 But, you know, I watched, who was the quarterback in the 70s for the Jets? and used to show up in gold and jewelry and a big fur coat. Oh, you're talking about. I know what you're talking about. I'm bad with names, so I... Yeah, he was one of the first sort of show, flashy. There might have been someone earlier that, but I was... It was him.
Starting point is 00:25:07 I know who he is. I can see his face, but I just can't name him right now. Yeah. But all the more power to him, man. You were in that right. you work hard, you slave, you make a lot of sacrifices, those first 10 or 15 years of being in the NFL to get there. You get the shit beat out of every weekend and at the gym. If you want to do Flash and stuff, then knock yourself out.
Starting point is 00:25:31 Just don't break the rules so they kick you out. I think his first name is Joe. Joe, yeah, Joe Namath? No, I think it's Joe Namath. Maybe. It's your name. It's your name. Is it?
Starting point is 00:25:46 Okay. Yeah, he's your name. No. We're all learning how to remember people's names here. Joe Neheth, he's still 83. What a God. I remember one time he was on Car Center Letterman and he talked about all his knee surgeries and he just recently had another one. And he pulled up his pants legs so you could see his legs and his knees.
Starting point is 00:26:03 And my God, they were just, I think he'd had 20 surgeries or something on them. They were just torn the hell up. Just the damage those men. take from that thing. But yeah, when he was, I don't know, smoking big ass cigars that weren't a big fur coat, like everyone was like, what the hell's going on? But he played like he could dress that way. And so did that other gentleman you mentioned, Randy Moss.
Starting point is 00:26:28 He was a fan boy. I always love those guys. I loved, what's his name, Rice, Ray Rice, I think from the Baltimore Ravens. I love watching him play. Ray from Fort. Ray Rice, yeah. Ray Rice. He was so matching.
Starting point is 00:26:43 to play. Falwell, or not Falwell, Brett Farrv, even Brady, I have to like Brady now because he's with the Raiders helping us. But he did still a Super Bowl from us and I'm not letting him out of it. Maybe he's earning my forgiveness. But it's a real long way. We need to win a Super Bowl so I can let that go. I'm a Cowboy fan. Oh, are you? You seem like you're straight. I'm kidding you. I'm kidding. Yeah, there's a lot of jokes about. It's tough being a Cowboys fan, like being a Raiders fan nowadays, isn't it? A little? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:16 Yeah. You just, for us, we start every season. We win the first one to two games, and then it's just all shit from there. So we just won the first two games, so I've given up on the rest of the season. We just won one, but I gave up a long time ago. I just watching for fun. Is Jerry Jones the problem? Like, my owner is the problem?
Starting point is 00:27:36 He's the problem. Yeah. The problem is the owners in both these cases. Even Al Davis. There was somebody I can't remember I was friends with online. He was a big, he won the Super Bowl for the Buccaneers, and he was a big brawler and troublemaker like Randy Moss. And then his last year was spent with the Raiders.
Starting point is 00:27:55 I don't know if you remember what I'm talking about. But he would always be in trouble. Like one time he did a touchdown party running through the opposite lines side line and they got suspended or in trouble with the, And he called the NFL slave owners. He was always up to trouble. But I talked to him once privately, and I go, man, why are the Raiders still? They lose more games based upon penalties.
Starting point is 00:28:20 Back in the day, the Raiders were bad with penalties. They would beat people out of hurt them. And probably half the rules are made because the Raiders were so violent. And he goes, man, they're still playing in 70s football. That's the Raiders problem. But Mount Davis was the problem. He was keeping them in the 70s. And when your guy's owner, Jerry Jones, when he fired that one guy who got him, what, two or three Super Bowls?
Starting point is 00:28:44 Johnson. Yeah, he was a great coach. It helped to have, oh, what was his name? It was such a great player. There was a couple of great quarterbacks during that era. But when he fired him and said, I'm going to coach the Cowboys my way. It's just been all downhill from there. Yes.
Starting point is 00:29:02 Maybe we need to fire the owners. There needs to be a way to do that. Maybe if we all vote as fans, we can have removed. You don't have to work. I wish that would work. Anyway, continue to success with what you're doing, and thank you very much for coming to the show over now. It's wonderful to have you.
Starting point is 00:29:19 It's my pleasure. My pleasure as well. Folks, order up his book where refined books are sold, The Origin of Everything, so you can learn how the world works and where we came from and all that good stuff. Be sure to order up the... It's almost Christmas, so be sure to up his children's book
Starting point is 00:29:33 that he's written and the future ones that may come. You can give them out to the kids at Christmas or do whatever you want with them. But reading to kids is really important. We advocate for that on this show. To my audience, thank you for joining us. Be good to each other. Stay safe. We'll see you next time.
