Somebody you just love to burn her
I'm love
Are you fucking kidding me?
Are you fucking kidding me?
Listen to him.
That's beautiful.
Blood sticker than the mud.
He doesn't give a fuck.
Are you fucking kidding me a while?
Are you fucking kidding me, though?
Yeah, that's crazy.
Fucking sly was on his own.
I told you.
Yeah.
I just found something the other day.
And I started listening.
It was like,
One in the morning, I must have put on six line of the family stone now.
Great.
When after the other, I'm like, I forgot all about this.
And then I started listening to the other fucking crazy black dude with the dreads.
Who?
The Godfather.
There's James Brown and there's another crazy guy.
I went to see him Boulder.
White people love them.
Ice Cube sample.
That da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-ta-da-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-old.
George Clinton.
Yeah, yeah.
I'm telling you.
I'm telling you.
I'm telling you.
I'm telling you.
So, you know what I'm saying?
They recorded at a studio that was not too far from my neighborhood.
So that was always like a big deal.
Is he still touring?
Yeah.
I'm actually doing the show with him next weekend.
No.
No, this weekend.
Where?
In Cleo, Michigan.
At the fucking cannabis hot times, you know, we don't like to be around motherfuckers.
It's on that weird shit jumping around.
But, you know, it's an envelope.
I got to go grab.
You got to go.
No, it's cool.
So I'm going to dip in there and I'm going to dip right out.
You know, it ain't a big deal.
I might come out with a couple goodies, you know.
Oh, no, no.
That's take it carry you.
You know, so it's not a big deal.
But, yeah, actually, George Clinton is playing.
So hopefully he's playing my day because it's a two-day thing.
So I don't know what's day.
I know I'm playing Sunday.
Who else is on the bill?
50 cent was just great.
I actually used to live with Tony Yale for like a few years.
It's coming up, you know, rap shit.
So it'd be good.
Is 50 cents still rapping?
He's still like, I mean, yeah.
But he's doing that TV show power.
He has a TV show now?
Power, you never seen power?
No.
I mean, it's pretty good.
What is it on?
It's not on Showtime.
It's on Stars.
I think it's on Stars.
So, who the fuck got Stars?
That's the fucking problem.
Who the fuck got Stars?
You know, I love 50 cents, but who's the fucking Stars?
That's like fucking, you know, Showtime.
Not everybody got Showtime.
Yeah, you're right.
You're right.
It's like a fucking Puerto Rican HBO has a showtime.
So nobody wants it.
What the fuck I'm going to see on showtime?
But yeah, I think that's the thing.
Now, Bone Thugs is on it.
Which would be great to see them.
I wasn't one of them in jail.
Somebody went to jail.
Bone thugs?
Back in the day, oh, I remember flesh and bone was always locked up
for, like, some bomb throats or some crazy shit.
They were out here.
When I first moved out here, you'd see them every night.
Oh, okay.
Up and down.
I mean, they were signed with Easy E, you know.
Strip clubs.
Fucking.
comedy school. Cleveland boys, you know?
I mean, they were up and down. Every night
you'd go home and somebody would tell
you, fucking, I was at a party and bone
stugs walked in and started harmonizing.
And white people love when
you start harmonizing, they go fucking bananas.
Dog, I remember there used to be a comedy
where Dane Cook really got popular.
Was on the sunset strip
across where the pink taco
is now and stuff. I don't know the names of these places
where Jay Davies used to
book originally. But across the
from there.
Was it Miyagi?
There was a sushi place
across the street from there
leave.
I know the area
I wasn't around here now.
Like there's nothing
there now, but there used to be
a sushi place right across
from there.
And on Tuesday nights,
the same night of comedy
that all you could eat
and karaoke.
Okay.
And dog, it was like...
In both of those are
rolling through.
No. Whitney and Bobby.
Oh, shit.
On Monday, on Tuesday nights.
Whitney would walk in...
I heard one...
Bro.
One night I was at the comedy
store and people were
wiping tears from their eyes, walking down sunset.
Because in those days, Tuesday nights, was Joe Torrey night at the comedy store back then.
It was Joe Torrey and his brother.
Black Knight.
Black Knight with Joe Tori and the dudes from St. Louis.
And they had a great, so nobody would come to the original room in those days.
Like the store was known as Black Knight.
So Tuesday, you could have a spot in the original room and you'd just go fuck, six people.
But I met, I met, booked a room.
up by where the pink taco is.
I forget the name of that.
Me, Josh Wolf Rogan,
Pauli Shore, DePaulo, Mitch Headberg.
That was like a great popping room on Tuesday.
Yeah, shit, I bet.
Next to it, then that room became what Jay Davies took over,
and that became the comedy thing where I got thrown out
for eating the chick's pussy in the freezer,
and I had the eight ball.
Me and Brian Holstman were the only guys that were banned from there.
Same reason?
No, he threw a chair at the audience or something crazy.
He did something crazy.
But that it was well known that that Tuesday across the street, people, I'll never forget, walking back from there.
And people were on sunset.
She walked in there and just sang, I always love you.
Oh, yeah.
And the place.
blew the place away.
Yeah, who the fuck?
You know, you're eating all you can eat dinner.
Whitney Houston walks in.
Just pops up, yeah.
And sings I always love you.
Then the word got out.
Then she came back like a month later with Bobby Brown.
she sang and then he went up there and sang something
then the word got out and Christina Aguera
started going up there with the chick when she was a
mess, Britney
when Britney was a fucking mask shaving
ahead and shit she went up there
one night with Whitney and tried to out sing Whitney
and finally Whitney felt bad for when they sang like a duet
and everybody was cool you know what I'm saying?
Like she went up there trying to come on you can't out sing
Whitney yeah you can't say fucking
Even when you smoke them rocks.
Let me tell you something, man.
The other night I stayed in maybe a week and a half ago.
I was tired.
I was on the couch.
But at 11 o'clock, the bodyguard was coming out.
Oh, shit.
And I said, you know what?
I'm going to stay up and watch the fuck.
You ever see that way?
No, I don't think so.
I stayed at him and watched the bodygo.
No.
It's not an Academy Award.
No.
It's not an Academy Award-winning movie, but I will tell you one thing.
When you watch that movie, if you have any human,
you will cry a little bit like a tear
come to you
God damn Whitney
what the fuck happened
oh yeah just see him yeah
what the fuck happened
when you watch the reals
whatever the autotagic thing
whatever like she was turned up from beginning
like that's one thing I didn't know I thought
I always thought like Bobby put it on
them but they're saying like she got Bobby more
she was turned on
listen to me dog I want and I tell this story
till the end what the fuck is their
names
they had a car wash up a 9 W
when I was a kid, the Devencenzos.
Years later, they moved to Boulder
and opened up a mechanic shop.
But the family had a car wash.
And one day we were sitting there, whatever,
talking shit.
I went to a wedding.
And they were saying that,
you're not going to believe who fucking comes into the car wash
because she lived in Englewood.
You know, that's Englewood,
and Englewood Cliffs is a big...
And Englewood, like the hood, though?
Yes.
She lived in England?
She lived in Engelwood Cliffs.
I think it's E.
Like Englewood?
wood here. No, you're talking about Jersey, right?
Jersey. Oh, oh. Englewood.
She looked at Englewood. Yeah, I know Jersey. Englewood.
Englewood is with John Travolta's from Englewood.
The first basketball player ever go from high school, Bill Willoughby's from Englewood.
Englewood's in old school. That's the restaurant. I used to run out of on Monday nights.
It was in Englewood. But she lived in Englewood Cliffs, and she would go and get her car washed.
And they told me in 1987, now, even like 86, she had the second hour.
album was out. The first one, you give
good love and all that shit. My grandma,
oh, that shit. That album's a monster.
That was a monster. That was the big, picked up from school
sound tag. That album's a fucking monster.
The first one, she's a fucking monster.
It's like the first. I couldn't escape
Whitney Houston or I need a baker.
Dog, listen, Anita Baker throws he, too.
It's like the first two shot days.
You want to hear some fucking crazy shit?
You listen to the first two shot day out.
Yeah. That was the whole new sign.
Yeah.
You'll go, what the fuck was she thinking?
Yeah, I was like ahead of his time.
Yeah.
Even now, I got the greatest hits on the iPod.
When I fly out, she was ahead of her time.
It always ends up on fucking, but they were saying how she was a Coke fiend?
And I go, how the fuck do you guys know?
And she goes, because she licks the bindles and throws them in the back seat like a savage.
So when they were vacuuming, they'd see the fucking hundred bindles in the back seat.
So we're going back to 86, 87.
So already then, she was already doing bumps.
She came up in Jersey in the early 80s.
It was everywhere. It was fucking everywhere.
That's crazy, though.
Somebody gave her a bump when she was modeling.
You know what I'm saying?
Somebody gave her a bump when she was modeling, bro,
and she never looked back.
That's exactly what happened.
That's crazy.
She grew up in the music business.
Who the fuck knows who's in the studio one night?
Exactly.
Gave her a bump when she was 20.
Even pregnant before the end, though.
Like you said, back in those days, it wasn't uncommon.
It wasn't like, that shit was just like smoking weed.
Or like the kids, like, now, are they doing zen actions?
and drinking lean and, you know, that shit is just what's popular.
83, the big thing was restaurants that would let you go in and do coke.
Damn.
So we'd be-
So you could just do a bump at the table?
Dog.
And there was no big deal.
There were certain restaurants that you could go into.
And just had lines on the table.
But there was certain restaurants that after dinner, you would ask the wait, let me get a dish.
That is crazy.
The waiter would come over.
You put like a hundred in his hand.
He takes off.
and you can put an eight ball on the dish and do little bumps.
I'll tell you if there's a cop in the restaurant or tell you, you know, that's what they look out for.
That was before, like, chain restaurants probably right?
But you got to think, though, I can look at that like, because like now our culture is like smoking weed everywhere.
You know, you want to go to the place where you can smoke weed in, but you got to think you doing bumps.
It ain't really harming nobody but you.
Like smoking weed, everybody smell it to smoke, blah, blah, blah.
Like, I feel like that's more considerate to do coke.
Yeah, it's kind of more consistent in a public atmosphere.
here?
You know, that I said, it shouldn't be looked down upon.
Somebody was here recently.
I remember there was like a six-year window.
I didn't go back east.
And when I went back in 91, I asked people, I would go into place and they were already telling them, no, no, no, no, no, it's not the 80s no more.
You just can't do bumps in here no more.
Okay, you're just talking about the bathroom.
And the bathroom is now, you can't.
It went, it was like a culture change.
I feel like once Crack, probably like when Crack did what it did, and then the whole.
Reagan shit, that's when all that shit just started being looked down upon, to be
honest.
Well, you got up too young to know.
Well, here's what happened.
Here's exactly what happened.
See, the words got confused.
I always tell people that words paint a thousand pictures.
What became cocaine, all of a sudden, every time there was a Coke bus, they threw
the word cracking there.
The media threw the word cracking there.
Because you get more time for crack, right?
Yeah, you do more time for crack.
So everybody considered this crack
But I will tell you something
I remember growing up in my godmothers
It was always weed on that block
148 and between Broadway and Amsterdam
That's crazy
I went back in 85 there was no weed
I'll never forget to all crack
No weed no more
It was just straight up cracked
And what is it just not
Like it doesn't make any money to sell weed
At that time
If I could bring
Even when I started hustling though
It was like
Me selling weed was like
Like
You only hustles
Like, people, like, when I first started hustling, like, selling weed, they look down on you, kind of.
It was like, you was on the block hustling, but you're too scared to sell crack type of thing.
Like, because crack was where it was at in some type of thing.
I'm talking, like, late 90s.
You know what I'm saying?
So it was like, you out here selling weed?
That was, like, kind of, like, wet in some sense.
It's like, you know what I'm saying?
What a fucking world.
You're like the losers.
I mean, not losers, but you were like a nerds.
Lee, I don't know.
Or you sell weed, like, whatever.
Now, Lee, you know how I always.
Unless you had a house and you had a weed.
house and a spot, but just a guy
that's trying to come on the corner where everybody got
cracked and you kind of said your little weed.
It's like, man, come on.
But it was funny because let's say, let me
just say Detroit. Let's
just say by Coco's Comedy Club.
Like one time I went to Coco's Comedy Club,
I was headed to Montreal
and some guys
and I knew they weren't going to let me into Canada.
I'd gotten fucked up for three or four
days in Miami. The first
day I got to Detroit, I just slept.
And I was like, you know what, bro?
I got like $700.
I don't really need to go to Montreal.
I'm going to go up there to just stand around
and hopefully they throw me up on stage like a dog.
What am I?
I'm like a fucking...
I said, fuck it.
Coco's just a few blocks down.
Now, leave.
Remember when I was telling you that you deal with the same people?
So let's pretend I go into DB's neighborhood
when he's a child.
Right.
And I'm going to, who's got weed?
D.B. or go, I got it.
And I'll become friends with him.
And he'll tell me, before I leave,
from now when you come to this neighbor,
you ask you motherfucking DB.
Yeah, fuck with me.
And this is my partner over here,
Cloud, and this is sunshine,
and if I ain't here, you deal with them.
Okay.
So every time I go, I ask for DB.
After about six or seven times, I go,
DB, what else is cracking on the block?
And you'll go, my home dog down the corner,
I got Xanax,
with the motherfucker down across the street with the pit bulls.
He got cocaine with Mexicans and shit,
and I go, let's take a rock down there.
Give me an intro.
And you'll get,
DB, you'll get like a Coke from the guy,
for bringing me over.
And there's a middleman.
And then let's pretend
that I just pull up and I go,
where's DB?
And some dude comes up to me and goes,
man, can I help you?
And I go, no, I'm looking for DB.
As DB will walk over,
he'll go,
DB, this is my motherfucker right here.
Let me get fired out
because all of a sudden
he wants five of the 20
you're going to make
because he's trying to scam.
It's a scam.
No, that should be a,
that's a beef.
It's a beef.
That's a beef in the hood.
Like, some shit like that happened.
That's some shit.
the beef over. It's crazy. Because you
want to be a pussy to let a nigga take your cell
and that's what it was all about. And that's what
a nigga would do that. A motherfucker would take
yourself if he could, if he knows, it's like, you know,
anything else in life. Like, going
to jail, a motherfucker taking your snacks. You know
what I'm saying? Like, if you're on the block and you're on
the corner with all those savages and everybody,
you got to think, it was some of just out there
hustling for gym shoes, but you got some of the fuckers
out there hustling for motherfucking diapers.
In San Francisco, in 1985,
I went to a spot. I bought a bag of
weed. I was going there for a long time.
And it was all brothers,
but these brothers were right.
You knew it, yeah.
But they were polite,
and they were cool with me. Cuba, what up?
Now, at the beginning of the 20,
that's it. And when I went over there, and I asked for
a dude. This is one I learned how serious
it was. It was 85 in San Francisco. I told
people, in 85, I saw more
violence in San Francisco, what I ever saw.
And I wanted, you know, I've been going there a lot.
You know, where's Lee? Where's Lee? Lee.
you know, Lee, Lee, Lee would always come out.
What's up, Buck?
And Lee would say, that's my dog right here.
When he shows up, he's with me.
Yeah, that's his sale.
And one day I went up there, and some dude with a big afro.
Like strippers, man.
Bro, just like strippers, man.
Some dude with a big afro came up to me.
He goes, nah, man, Lee ain't around.
I don't know if that was the guy's name.
So you know, pooling your sales or anything?
It's not like a server.
No, no, no.
These guys out there fighting for themselves.
I bought the weed from him.
He gave it to me because he said Lee wasn't around.
And as I turned around, there was this black dude coming
with his potential.
With his protect.
No, no, no, dog.
He goes, what happened?
I go, he told me you weren't here.
He said, that dude there, he waited to the dude turned around,
and he just sucker punched him right in the fucking temple.
He had to.
He went down.
They left him there.
He said, get out of here.
I'll deal with it, and that was it.
He had to.
The next time I went, he goes, I'm sorry about that, man.
I had to, you got to handle your shit.
If you didn't do that, they'd take your sales all the time.
Yeah, no, it's crazy.
Like, that is the worst type of hustling.
I only been through that, maybe.
Because, like I said, I always was, like, worked in spots.
but I was on the corner a few times
and that is like, I don't know, man,
that's like the bottom of the food chain
and when it comes to, like, drug dealing.
I used to go to Harlem,
and Harlem was always cool,
but right away, you got these white dudes
that want to be cool and everybody
and they want to go up to the Bronx.
You want to go up to the Bronx?
What's in the Bronx? There's nothing in Harlem.
It makes them cooler.
Dog, I don't go to 1410.
I go to Jerome Avenue.
I deal with them.
fuckers up there.
I want to go to scary.
And one day they got robbed.
Of course.
The guy took him.
And he goes, the guy in the bodega ain't there until they go around the corner.
Of course.
They took him into the apartment building.
Right there, the guy had a gun.
You know, it's a, like, I like simplicity.
But everybody always, you know, you got these dudes.
I want to be cool and everybody.
And I go to the other side of the Bronx to Fort Apache.
You're just going to get killed up there.
And you know what?
Eventually you go up there.
Because there's an ethics in the neighborhood.
But let's say this is our street, Comston, and that's over there.
Everybody knows that if they see Lee, a white dude, walking this name.
You know him.
He ain't coming here to meet his cousin.
He's coming here to get weed or whatever.
So, I forgot what I was going to fucking say.
Those stars are good.
But no, I can't you saying, like, even for us, when we was kids, like, my neighborhood
was so much of a drug zone, even to this day it still is.
But it was so much of a drug zone that we could just catch any.
like little custo that's coming, they don't really know what's going on, just act like
we got drugs.
Kids, and they give us $20 or something, we just run off.
You know what I said?
It was crazy.
Act like we sell it drugs.
That's why you got to be real fucking careful.
You got to be careful because you're broke.
It's your last $10.
So it's got to be fucking solid.
And we run up with your shit.
Like you run up.
And that's how we know, if you didn't know no better than even as we was kids and
you dealt with us.
Like we knew you didn't know what was going.
Lee, you could come.
There was blocks I went to in New York.
City and Amsterdam and Harlem up there.
Okay.
That you could come up here with $200,000 cash and you were going to get back to your car save.
These guys put it in there.
So even though they all hustle for themselves, there's a code amongst them.
In fact.
Don't fuck with these customers because they're our Jersey white people.
They're coming over here with deep pockets.
You mug them one time, then they won't come back.
I'm surprised you went back where they put the guy in the hands.
Let me tell you some, bro.
Listen, there was times.
And this is a kill each other, but that shit,
you fucked up that one custo that's coming with that hundred every time.
Like, hell no.
No, I never bought from nobody.
I never bought from nobody again.
Every time, I was there for another maybe three months.
I always just waited for him if he wasn't there.
But that whole street scene of Drugsley is a complete different world that I loved.
I fit right in.
I love that little hustle.
And you're out there and you bump into a white dude.
What's up?
I'm going to get an ounce of Coke.
By the way, I'm getting an eight ball off the top.
you know so it's a it's a different fucking game
fucking drugs man
yeah I mean I was born and raised them to it so
even though I'll go back to my old neighborhood
and the same shit is going on it's like
fuck like you know
I mean I ain't gonna say the crack is not cracking
it used to be crack's not cracking right now
no motherfuckers ain't I mean I don't think it's a new crack yet
like to start smoking crack right now
isn't that the thing?
Heroin is like a big deal but I guess
heroin just having enough people having just
opiate addictions in general.
I think the syrup did it a lot.
Like, a lot of people who's drinking a lean
and then especially, like, when activists
was like the, it was like
the bad shit. How fucked up does the lean
game? Oh, it's great. You've done it?
I had it, they gave it to me for top medicine.
It's pretty much heroin, man.
I told you that was like the biggest drug.
I was addicted to. That was like the biggest thing that was
like ruining my life. Like,
I felt like me overcoming that addiction and I
know I can get off anything. That's why I'm
like, I'm more focused, like, stop smoking
How did it start?
With me?
How did it start with me?
Well, how old did you?
I mean, of course, no, it wasn't even that long ago.
Because you got to think that shit was like, it was always a thing down south.
I'm from Michigan, so I'm in the north as it can go.
So for it to make it up there, it took a minute.
So just being, I guess, rap music and the whole culture of everything made the shit popular.
I remember it was a time in my life where people were habling, and that shit was like $10 a line.
And then...
How big is a line?
A line is, I guess, an ounce, maybe.
Okay.
I know, I guess a pint is 16 ounces.
And you pour it with orange soda?
No, I used to drink with it.
I had a lot of different places.
I liked it with Dr. Pepper.
Cream soda was one of my favorites.
Well, you're putting a lot in, right?
Like, you're pouring.
Me, I would drink.
When I first started, I didn't really understand what I was doing.
It was fucking me up so much that I wasn't pouring a lot like that.
But then it got to the point where I was, like, going overseas and stuff.
So I would, like, kind of overdo it to overcomensate me going.
but the whip draws is it's pretty much heroin in the cup to be honest the same thing you
were experienced like being oh heroin having those withdrawals the same thing you would have if you
didn't have no lien like i used to be like going on the road and damn their shitting on myself
shit like that you know stomach fucked up how much a bottle that shit costs oh i remember
when i was drinking a pint was like 500 500 and how long was a pint last year a pint is
you know 16 ounces
but you do one ounce of the shot
no some people be pouring
a fo in a two liter
six in a two liter
something like that I think I was doing
because me I was
it got to when I started
figuring out to do it right
I was pouring up like a ounce
I was pouring up like a line
in the 20 ounce
how does it taste straight
without the soda
I would never do it like that
well I mean just one particular brand
which you got discontinued
and it got discontinued
because of Justin Bieber
which is the funny shit
You know, they caught Justin Bieber with it.
No, that shit, you know.
And then the company just didn't want that, you know, that,
because it was becoming a thing, like a trend.
Like, people were rap about it, activists.
It was like a thing.
So I guess that company didn't want that bad stigma on their name.
So they discontinued the product.
And once they discontinued it, that's when I was,
because I didn't like anything.
Like, high tech is cool and all the other brands was cool,
but they was all second.
Like, right now, if you still drink, lean,
you probably, high tech is like number one.
But when I was drinking, activist was like,
And it tastes like, I guess the best way to take, I don't know, it's heaven in a cup.
It tastes like bubble gum.
Like, I don't know.
Yeah, it's coating, right?
That's what you're talking about?
Yeah.
Yeah.
The first time he gave me, I didn't, he didn't give it to me.
The first time I smoked hash with him, I got bronchitis.
And then I kept getting it.
What did they give you, though?
What is the brand?
I don't know.
Oh.
I don't know what brand.
Where is it?
Huh?
Where is it?
Oh, I saved, I saved it for years.
I got it twice, and then they stopped fucking giving it out.
it's it's the best and like I'm on I didn't do it to get high it's the best cough medicine there is oh yeah yeah so you guys so fuck you Justin Bieber fucking it tastes good oh my god it works amazing I think of this guy that I worked with the first guy whoever who I ever like he was he was a drink at work and stuff when I told him I had it he wanted it to buy it off of me and I was like what are you talking about he looked at and I was I wanted it for my cough so I remember it was like a hundred dollars a line one time and I was like a hundred dollars a line one time and I was like a hundred dollars a line one time and I was like what I was like a hundred dollars a line one time.
Jesus.
Never when it got crazy.
That's when, I mean.
People died for it, right?
I mean, yeah.
But it was always, I think it was always involved the mixture.
It's something that you can't do and mix other shit with.
And which is a good thing, too.
I'm not saying a good thing, but in the same situation, like I was saying about the stars.
Like, when I do the stars, I can't do nothing else.
When I was doing lean, I wasn't doing nothing else.
Like, I can't, you're not about to do no bumps.
You're not about to drink no liquor.
So people don't do lean and snor coke.
Hell no, you'll die.
Really?
You're a die.
To me, it was...
That's like doing coke and heroin.
Yeah.
Is you doing a balushi?
That's a balushi all day.
You feel what I'm saying?
Like, you can't do that upper and down or that to that drastic extreme measures, you know?
That's the thing.
Like, I feel like a lot of kids don't know the drugs they're doing.
Like, you got to study.
Like, I don't know.
I tested myself.
And at the end of the day, I feel like, you know, you could watch and see what happens.
You know, I grew up in a drug being in Detroit and being around my, you know, just a family I grew up in.
It's like a drug culture kind of.
So I kind of knew the effects of every drug kind of.
And, you know, I got into my own shit like Adirah.
That was nothing.
But it was like Adirah with me was like it's pretty much die of Coke in some sense.
You feel me?
Like probably sometimes it's better than Coke nowadays because it's so, coke so trash now.
You know, it's so fucking mixed up and bad now.
like at least with Adirah, you're getting the same thing every time.
And like, I would be able to just take Adderall and just work all night.
It was never like for a get high purpose, though.
It was always just for a working.
You know what I'm saying?
I've never done that.
I've always wanted to try it.
No, it's tremendous.
It's tremendous.
I wrote, I'll written albums off it.
But I mean, like, does your heartbeat?
No much?
A beat fast as fuck.
Everything.
You'd be horny.
Your dick won't get heard.
All the same shit like Coke would do.
But it's just.
cleaner. It's almost cleaner, I can say.
And it probably lasts longer.
You fucking do a whole fucking 30 milligram.
You might be fucked up for 12 hours.
Is there like a withdrawal from?
Yeah, the next day you don't give a fuck about life.
Now, this cough medicine, this lean, how bad will it withdrawals?
Oh, I mean, his stomach fucked up.
And then it's, I would say the biggest thing for me was a mental thing.
Because it's, like you said, it tastes so fucking good.
When you don't have it, it's just.
just like that taste in your mouth and it never leaves like a craving and all you could do is
just think about like that was almost like better than actual drinking it was the hunt for it because
it was so like scarce to find it so it was like always the chase and the hunt to find it and it was
always about trying to stack up to never run out so like when I get down like when I get down like a foe
or something I'm just on the phone constantly trying to find who got lean it was like the
hunt was more better than the actual
getting. I swear to God, I feel like
I got addicted to the hunt. Yeah, I got
addicted to the hunt. That's
the thing. The hunt had
me for five years. I was
sick of cocaine when I
was like 38. Yeah. But the
hunt is what?
The thought process
the way I would
I would, I would
when I, like I could go to the Olympics
and not feel as good as waking
up with zero dollars.
Mm-hmm. And put together two grams
and $100 of cash and a $60 back a week.
Like that to me is genius type shit.
Like two hours ago, I was sweating bullets.
And now I'm eating a Chinese lunch.
Living like a doctor.
And I don't even know how I did it.
Like, I don't even know how I did it.
You know, like I was telling, I've been writing about it lately.
Somebody said something to me when they go,
you know, I was listening to you, stand up.
And they're saying, have you ever thought that you've had like eight lives?
And I thought about what the fuck they said.
I was like, you know what?
Because this is the truth, bro.
I got to tell you something.
I don't want to sound like a hypocrite.
This November's going to be 10 years
I haven't done coke.
I got to tell you something, bro.
It feels like I don't even know
what that person was.
I could believe that.
Like it felt like.
Ten years was a long time to grow, though.
Yeah, no, no, no.
You become a whole other person in 10 years.
It wasn't.
You come on another person in three?
Oh, no.
I became a complete different person.
I'm the same person.
I just had a fuck.
That mentality.
I just had an addiction.
that it was fucking brutal.
Like at 7.30 was when it had to happen.
Like everything else was bullshit.
Like everything else in my life was bullshit.
If I had the money in my wallet, it wouldn't bother me.
I'd make a few calls.
And go, you're going to be around 20?
Yeah, I'm going to swing by after the store.
My spot's 11.15.
And I'll be by there, maybe quarter to 12.
So I always had a cover.
and days I woke up with
zero dollars and zero cross bikes.
Now it was the hunt.
And that's the hunt.
I think that's some natural milk.
That's when you gotta put,
that's when you gotta put your shit together
and go wow.
And there was always something.
Like that's how you knew it was meant to be.
Like I would go,
I had two mailboxes at that time.
It's a love story.
That's the truth.
I would say.
I would say it for fucking
that's how wiped up.
I was. I would say if a check comes in the mail
today, fuck. I'll do
Coke. And you know what,
Bill? Didn't you know there were checks coming?
7 out of 10 there were checks coming in the mail.
Like in SAG, if you're part
of SAG, you log into the
webpage, and then you go to residuals tracker
and you click on that.
What a surprise that you were checks coming. And they'll tell
you when your checks get sent
and what's getting processed.
So all I knew was the
footsteps between the mail
truck and the fucking door. That's all I knew.
If I looked at now, it's
sagged, so you never really know
when you're going to get your check.
Like whale bears?
Yeah, yeah. You got 30 days to get that check.
So if that check says June
21st, you might get
it on the 21st. Like this days,
all right, let me give me an example of SAG.
SAG will do this shit to you.
Let's say you got one check coming for 400,
one check coming for
600, one check
coming for 33,
And one check coming for 38 cents.
All on the same day.
Let's say it's June 21st and it logs in.
You're getting four checks.
One for six.
One for four.
One for 36.
And one for $2.
Guess what's the first checks you'll get?
$2.
$2.
And the $36 one.
And the $4 and the $6 don't make you sweat it out.
You might get it tomorrow.
And I would already call you and go, listen, I'm going to get a check.
I'll see you in an hour and shit.
you know what I would go down there over up that mailbox and that'd be the $36 one and the two well 36 and two is 38 they're going to charge me $3 to cash two checks so I'm 35 that means I'm 25 light I'm in the neighborhood I really need 20 I really need 30 because I like to get a Chinese lunch I'm kind of I'm saying but that's how I work at least that was the and anybody bump into bro let me get a $10 bill I left my wallet on
That's a 10.
Doug, Lee, give me 10 bucks, bro.
I left my wall at the house.
I'm sorry, I'll give it to you later.
That's 10, that's 20.
Now I got 55.
I'm in the name, but even if I show up 5 light,
and I still haven't gone to the comedy store
because you've got 50 comics in the comedy store.
One of them will lend me a 20,
and that'll put me over the top.
Some guys are looking at me,
go, you need money, take 100.
I go, yeah, Mahjabrani,
Arincada,
don't do take care of me.
Yeah, those dudes took care of me.
Ralphie Mae.
That's what you said.
It was the whole adventure of the hunt at that time.
The hunt is the whole fucking thing.
That's like a natural male instinct.
Oh, and God forbid you go to a strange town.
You feel like you accomplish something.
Yeah.
God forbid you go to a strange town.
That's more of a hunt.
That was a big deal for me.
Like going to cities and just having to find weed.
Not even just got to figure it out.
You know, thank God for Twitter.
Sherlock Holmes.
You guys would walk around city.
No, Twitter changed the world.
Twitter changed the world.
I could just sit at one tweet and I got like, you know.
What's the tweet to get Coke?
I mean, I wouldn't do it no more, but back in the early days.
Like people skiing or something?
Are there any snowflakes in the horizon?
You know what I'm saying?
No, I just put it on blast four years ago.
It's crazy how.
But now I probably wouldn't do that.
What?
Where's the Coke?
But I wouldn't say the Coke.
I'll be looking for, I'd be looking for weed.
What allowed at?
Who got the noise?
That's what you say.
Who got the noise?
I don't know what I'm gonna tell you something
But I gotta tell you something bro
Heads
Recognized heads
Because I remember even when they shot the longest yard dog
I had 40 bucks
Six cigarettes
And like three joints bro
And I was like
Oh shit
I'm getting on a plane
And this is it
I'm going to Santa Fe, New Mexico
Oh shit ain't none going now
I don't know nobody do down there
I check into the hotel
Bro
I go in my room
I find an envelope
with $800 that
Adam left us
Per diem. I forgot the per diem.
I wanted the envelope and there was $800
dollar bills. I said, oh shit.
Saw one of my
motherfucking balcony because I had a little balcony
the place where Adam put us up at the
Hotel Santa Fe and I
sparked up one of those fucking joints
and I'm fucked up and I
ordered something like room service.
I got eight hundred to let me go with some room
service and the waiter
brought the food up and when he walked
in the room, bro. He smelled the dope.
He looked at me. He goes, man,
that smells good. Where are you from? I go, oh, Cali.
He goes, have you smoked some Santa Fe bud yet?
I go, not yet. I just got it. I don't even know what they can.
He goes, what do you want? Blueberry or an indica?
I go, bring me both. I go how much are they?
Go, 60. Bring them both.
Within two hours, I already had a connection in Santa Fe.
And then once you get on the set, that's it.
That's it. I feel like, if you be good to the weed,
the weed to be good.
Yeah, the weed always shows up.
Like, every time somebody
come to my city and they need wheat,
I don't even got to, I'll just bring you out.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Because when I come to your city, I was, you know,
I just hope I get blessed.
The weed guys would bless me.
You get what I'm saying?
It's like you do good to the dope.
The dope would be good to you.
So that's how I roll with it.
But here's the funny thing.
That never had a problem.
Here's the funny thing.
I can find wheat everywhere.
It's just the point of meat going through the hunt.
I can find cocaine.
Anyway, my last resort was always talking about
on stage.
Because that's 100% of it.
So if somebody at the club didn't have it,
I'd go up on stage on Wednesday
and start talking shit of me doing blow
and eventually somebody goes, you want
to do a blast and you go, listen, never mind a blast.
What can I get a package? Oh, let me call my God.
Bam. You become friends with Placo.
Next thing you know, he gives you his number.
You're on fucking.
Then you keep it on deck and when you come back.
It's all. You know who to head up.
Like, that's how I had it.
I would call him a week before
I got on that plane.
I had a guy in Houston.
I had a guy in Miami.
Give me a special section in your homebook or something.
I just, I knew.
12 dealers.
I just, I just say I put their name in the city.
Yeah, no, I put that name in there.
So if I go to a city sometime, I don't even know if I got it.
I do that.
And I'm a professional.
You know what I tell.
The city name when I'm there, and numbers will pop up.
You know the way I tell the market, right?
Yeah.
I would call all those motherfuckers on Christmas,
I wish on Merry Christmas.
Oh, my God.
I had a guy in Tempe.
I had a guy in Houston.
Main Spotsville.
in Miami. I had 22 guys
in New York and New Jersey. Of course.
I had a girl in Buffalo that always
brought me blow. Even the Syracuse.
Cute little thing would bring it to me.
The Syracuse without a surcharge. I would just give her
money for the package. I had a guy
in Detroit. I had a girl in Niles
Michigan. Niles Michigan, this chick was dirty.
I don't even know where Nile's Michigan is.
All the way in the South.
And you call them all on Christmas? Mishawaka.
Mishawaka is Michigan.
Indiana put together
I'm from Michigan
oh way down there's the sticks
it's close to Notre Dame
is it Notre Dame
I have no idea
something is there
they used to have a funny bone
and that's a part of
Indiana yeah that's Indiana
but I'm going to somewhere
I don't even know the name of that place
I never heard of Michigan is a weird
it got a lot of small towns man
that's like some Hickville
ass shit like Detroit is like where all the
black people at like I always tell people that
like Michigan is a white state
but Detroit is black you know what I'm saying
you got the other places
Ibsilani Angster plant you know but
Pontiac
I can write a book about my inventions
in Michigan
I can write a book
It's a very special place
Once I discovered the comedy scene in Michigan
I attacked it always was big
I always knew that I was a kid
Always it's been everywhere
Always ads for comedy
Always when I was a kid
And it was always I don't know
I guess it was always a scene
And it was a lot of comedy
that came out of Detroit too.
Like, that was always a thing.
Tim Allen was the main one.
Tim Allen was the main one.
To clean the clock there.
He's so cold dude, didn't he?
He got in trouble.
He ratted.
And he got out of him.
And listen, the guy's worth fucking billions today.
Oh, yeah.
I think any place, though, that has that type of,
I don't know, any place is, like,
has that type of big, like, I don't know,
like presence.
And, like, you know, we had, like,
the automotive industry.
and all that and that was like a big deal in America
then that all fell apart so it was like
everything was like ruins it always
like funny people come out of like bad places
like that but think of what Detroit was
Motown
yeah it was amazing it was like
we was you know
booming cars
then Ayakoka tried to bring it back and shit
he brought it back halfway he brought
Dodge back with the K car
bro I loved Leahyakoka
I fucking loved him I read a book
about him before I went to prison
because I was selling Chrysler's and Dodgers.
I sold Chrysler's.
I didn't sell them.
My grandma worked at Chrysler.
She took care of my whole family for years.
Like that was the thing about Detroit or in general.
Like you always had somebody in your family that worked at one of those plants.
And that was like a big job out there.
So it was like, like I said, my grandma worked at Chrysler probably maybe like 30 years.
And she owned like four houses, bought all her kids' houses.
Like just took care of the whole family off that one job until it, like, you know, until she retired.
And then, you know, you know how that go.
Where's your mama now?
I mean, my mom's still living in Detroit.
Your dad?
My dad, too.
I just bought my mama house not too long ago.
So she finally, you know, put up nice and straight, you know.
I just went my dad for Father's Day, you know.
I got a new car, so he wanted to drive it.
I let him drive around, you know.
They proud of him.
Yeah, my dad is, like, a super rap fan.
So he always, he was kind of, well.
groomed me what rap music would be.
You know, I don't know, he groomed me
to do it single-handedly without realizing what he was doing.
Like I said, my parents was young. My dad had me
when he was 16. My mom's had me when she was 18.
How old are they now?
Shit.
50.
I'm 36 now, so.
They're 16, 18 years older to me, so.
And what would your dad listen to when you were young?
I mean.
Everything.
I mean, yeah, pretty much.
No, no, that was later.
But he bought me to, Tupac City.
He bought me me against the world.
But my dad thing was like Trap Car Quest, I think.
That was like his biggest rap thing was Tricorquette.
He played a lot of tribe.
But I think the early stuff, Eric Bia B and Raqiam.
Yeah, Bia Rakeem.
You know, he bought me Woutang.
I didn't even know who Wutang was.
That was like when Diss Man's first came out.
He bought me like a disc man and bought me like a few CDs and Wutang was one of them.
I'm looking at the cover like, what the hell is this?
And put it on and I just was hooked.
That changed my life.
Like he would do things like that.
Like just, it wasn't necessarily about like me finding stuff in my own.
here just bring it to me like even source magazines
like even reading rap magazines he
brought those to me like just a buy magazine
and bring them to me I got addicted to him
and just spent my last three dollars at a
blockbuster on the source magazine just to see the
review you know
you got brothers and sisters yeah I got two brothers and two sisters
how were they um
one of my brothers was a barber
he works at the barbershop you know he's doing pretty good
and one of my brothers is like super smart
but he had like mad kids
you know what I got
mad baby mom was
Go through that.
My sister moved to New Mexico, and she out there, and that's cool.
I see her when I'm on tour every time I go out there with my nephew.
She got my nephew, who looks almost identical to me, which is funny.
So I go out there and see them every time I'm on tour.
But she's doing all right.
But my older sister is like an adopted sister in some sense.
Like my mom used to babysit for this.
I can't even explain.
But she got killed in like some crazy shit,
and then she was so used to babysitting the daughter that she took her.
her in. But then, you know, they went to court and through all that. And then her people, the father
people took her. And then when she got like 16, she ran away and came back to us. But when
she came back, she was already pregnant. Before we knew it. Now, she got like eight kids. And she
started having kids like, no, maybe early than that, like 16. Yeah. But the fucked up part
is her 14-year-old daughter got a baby now. Like I got my uncle. I guess a great uncle.
Yeah. Like she already like 15.
and probably got like, I think she got another baby too.
I don't even know.
I just go to the hood or go like see my people's and even like new babies all the time.
And I'd be like, man, y'all having kids.
Like, you're rich.
Like, you know, like kids don't cost money over here.
You have a nice family, though.
No, we got a...
The most part you guys are...
Yeah, because I think we got a...
I got a small family in some sense.
Like, we created our own tribe.
Like, my grandma, she got married.
And then pretty much got divorced but never changed their name.
So, like, my last name, Sewell is like, I don't know no other Sewells.
It's just like the only sewers that came from that situation.
Like, the real Sewells where that name came from, I wouldn't consider them family.
I don't know them or know anything about them.
But that little small situation she created.
So it's only like so many, like, it's getting bigger and bigger in our tribe of Sewells, you know.
She took his name and just ran with it.
So I don't know.
That kind of feel worried about it.
I just, my hairs in my head just stuck up because I just thought of something.
It's something that I've told a thousand times.
I remember the funniest night was we did a podcast up at the Ice House live.
And I told the story about this family that kind of took me in when I was a kid.
They were black.
And they were just tremendous.
They had no money.
They had no money.
And I would spend the weekends over there and they took care of me like I was their own.
And I was not their skin color.
And it was 1968.
You know what I'm saying?
It was a different time then.
But the one thing I took away from them,
that I still inside of me, I still missed them.
I don't know how to reach them.
You know, they moved on up.
And they moved to, like,
they lived in Harlem where they shot American gangster,
and I would sleep with them in those projects and stuff.
You know, domestic violence was big in that building.
That's crazy.
Like, it was just, I was a kid.
Yeah, yeah.
And every night.
Hearing what it was fighting.
bullets downstairs, but they were like a solid black family.
I can't really describe it.
And they didn't have much, but...
They made the best of what they had.
They had cousins in the building.
And on Fridays, Saturdays in particular, they'd start early.
Like the fourth floor had like a balcony, one of the cousins, and they had like a little grill, bro.
So they bought like three grills, and they would take them hours.
Grilled out.
hamburgers or whatever and hot dogs you know like I said they didn't have nothing it was an all day thing
they all they did then we went upstairs we all ate as a family you know the kids we argued we listened
to the jackson five and then they'd have a talent contest normal black family shit every fucking
second night so I was always the backup singer and the jackson song I was always fucking the bass player
or fucking Jackie Jackson
you know
that was me
the fucking white dude in the back
or I had a sing
with Joe Tex
or it was something
I was always not a singer
I was a normal black family
I was a temptation
I was the chubby dude
and the temptations and shit
and the girls would sing
and it was
you know I didn't know
what the fuck was going on
and my mom would go
what did you do all week
and I tell it she goes sing
what the fuck
and now I know
now I like first off
they were when black was black
I came from a time that you didn't really see it
with a white check
I came from that
that was that one shit
No
And that's my normal life
Yeah
Yeah yeah no no
I couldn't survive in those times
Yeah no no no no
It was a different time
You know the everybody had an afro
Everybody had the fist
Everybody had an afro pick with a fist in it
You know everything was red green and black
You know, it was a movement, probably.
It was a movement.
And they were angry and they were getting theirs.
And I remember still walking with him
and listening to people blasting James Brown on the street.
That little think of think and think of that,
then, think of that.
And being on the corner and going these fucking black people crazy.
You know, I've been here from Cuba like 18 months.
And this black dude becomes my friend.
And the reason why.
probably accepted them is because maybe
they looked like my cousins in Cuba
when I was a little boy. That's, you know, like today
I think about them. But I go on
Facebook, I look for them,
I Google them.
Black people, so we all get the same names.
You can't find them. It's over.
So it's just, you came from a very
nice family, so
they're very proud of you. It was a tight knit. I would
say that. And that was a lot of things, too.
Like, even with me, like, rapping.
Like, they're incredible. Like, you said, like, the
talent shit. Like, I always, like, once my family found it like a rap, I could never get out of that.
Like, I always had to rap in some type of way that honed my skills in some sense. You know what I'm
saying? So, even like something just as small as like, like once my neighborhood found out like a rap,
like they were like the big drug dealers in my neighborhood, but like bet money on me against
other kids from other neighborhoods. Like another kid said he could rap. Like, they were going to bring
that kid to me. Like, I'll be in my house.
was playing video games or something, just hanging out.
Somebody would be, next year I know they're knocking on my door, like,
Dini, come outside.
You got somebody want to rap against you, blah, blah, blah.
I'd go rap against him and make like $20 or something.
And that was like the world of me.
That's what continued, and that had to be like maybe four, fifth grade.
And that was like crazy to me.
And I wouldn't even know anything about writing.
I would go outside and just freestyle.
But I always would win.
You watch Ricky Smiley?
Yeah, I knew about it.
You like Ricky Smiley.
Ricky Smiley has a great one of Ricky Smiley's greatest bits of all time.
is it by the Black funeral
where they bring up a rapper?
He's just coming by
to drop some knowledge on us
about Mrs. Smith and stuff.
Put your hands together.
Anything about it happened at a Blackfield?
And he would just come out and shit.
Yeah, what up?
Put your hands up in the air.
Where my hose out?
That is crazy, though.
Anything about it happened
at a Black funeral, though.
Shit, I might have a rapper at my mom.
And that's what was the fucking bit?
See if you could find it.
Ricky Smiley funeral.
Something about Charlie.
Oh, he just remembered Ricky Smiley was a little Daryl, right?
Oh, my God.
Something about Charles.
Something about Darrell.
Something about somebody.
Ricky Smiley Funeral bit.
Let's see if you find it.
Oh, my God.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Spark that number.
Is that it?
No.
That's a prank card at a funeral home.
It's not good.
Let's see a funeral raise.
All of them is funeral arranging.
Hello.
Yeah, good morning.
That's what I don't know.
Yeah, keep...
All right, let's...
Take the funeral home away.
Okay.
And start from Ricky Smiley again.
And see what comes up.
Church announcements, maybe.
Black Tony?
Maybe that's it.
Ain't no telling.
There ain't no telling. He got something like shit.
Yeah, no.
It was...
fucking tremendous.
It was tremendous.
I don't know if it was one of his specials.
I'm going to look for it.
I thought it was fucking genius.
And it really happened.
No, right.
That shit happens.
You can't make that type of shit up?
That shit fucking happens.
You can't make that type of shit up?
What's going on with this movie, though?
That's why I got my fucking haircut like this, which I wasn't, I'm not a fan of.
Now, how did you get this movie?
Break it down for me.
Do you audition for it?
No.
director just reached out.
I was actually on tour.
And they wanted me to keep sending back
an audition tape.
No, I don't know.
Who was the director?
I just, Yand Demise.
He's the same guy that did Top Boy,
which is like a big show in London.
But the movie is
White Boy Rick pretty much about,
you know, you know, the story of Rick Wershey.
You know, he was in informants.
He was 14 years old, which is
totally against it.
But I guess it's pretty much showing
how corrupt Detroit more so
than what he went through is just showing how corrupt
Detroit politics and
you know the whole system in Detroit
how it's just even him
like getting the longest drug sentence
ever. He's been doing life
for some
some shit that they found down the street
he wasn't even in his premises you know
they just found some bricks under the porch
somewhere and they're just saying it was he is you know
but I mean
I'm playing black ed
Black Ed was a fly motherfucker.
You know what I'm saying?
But pretty much they rivals of the Curry brothers who Rick was working for.
And like I said, I don't know.
I guess the guy thought I would fit the part.
And he was reaching out to me and wanted me to do it.
But I was kind of like, I don't know, I felt weird about doing an audition tape.
I didn't do it.
And then he just kept being on me about it.
And then I just started thinking about it.
It was like, you know, I don't know, maybe try it.
You know, I don't know.
Did you ever do a movie?
before? No, I never acted.
No TV, no nothing. I mean, I did
No, I don't know. I did voice
overs. I done, you know, pretty music
videos, count those, but
far as that, like, voiceovers for cartoons.
That's probably my closest thing, which I love doing too.
But, um, so then he just
kept being on me about it, and then I did a Skype,
you know, Skype reading with him.
He was just like, got it. Just like that.
But I didn't know how big.
it was and then I found out Matthew McConaughey
was in it and all that so I was like oh shit
then I got the whole script and I read
the script and I was like oh this is some serious shit
kind of I didn't realize how serious
it was I probably would have took it more serious
but first day I got on that set
I realized how serious that shit was
you know what I'm saying? It's a lights camera action
yeah it wasn't it wasn't no game
it was intimidating because
for one thing you doing these scenes
with all these established actors and people
that this is their life you know what I'm saying
this is their life and you know
know what I'm saying and you the rapper.
They just obviously expect
for you to fuck shit up. You know what I'm saying?
Like, or not be good at it, you know?
But they end up getting to the point. I guess
I can't really take credit and say like I'm a good
actor or something because I wasn't playing nothing
that was far-fetched for me.
I can play a motherfucking drug dealer from Detroit.
Like that's, I know that
motherfucker. I just act like my uncles or some shit.
So it got good for me because
I pretty much, they threw the script away for me
and they had me fucking memorizing all that
shit for months. And by the time I get there,
They just said, go ahead and improvise.
So I didn't really have no lines like that.
I just pretty much improvised all my shit, which was cool.
Did you fuck up a couple times?
Step on the line.
Yeah, yeah, it's your first couple times.
Oh, yeah, I fucked up a few times.
But it wasn't nothing serious.
It wasn't nothing serious.
Like, all the acting coaches liked me.
They was like, you know, I guess, like I say,
I can't really take credit because I wasn't playing nothing that was far-fetched with me.
To anybody else, that probably would have been hurt for them,
but I know what a fucking drug dealer from Detroit in the 80s would be like, you know?
I think Oscar nomination.
No, I wouldn't say nothing like that.
But it did give me a little bug, though.
I did have fun.
I would say, I did have fun.
It's a very different experience.
Yeah, I did have fun.
Especially coming from a different experience
and being able to go back.
See, that's when it's fun.
Like, my wife wanted to act.
She acted two times.
She came home when day.
She goes, it ain't for me.
It ain't for me.
I don't like sitting there like all fucking day.
But I think just being groomed from doing videos
and just being on the road and all that,
There's a lot of things that, you know, I've been through that was able to make me handle it in certain sense.
Like, long days, like 12-hour days and shit.
Being on the set, you're not even shooting.
You just dare, like, shit like that.
Or, like, just me.
It was a lot of scenes that I'm just there.
I don't have no lines.
I'm just sitting in the background.
Like, and you're there for 12 hours.
Like, shit like that, and you got to deal with it.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, what was the name of the guy who wrote and directed Get Out?
Pell?
Yeah.
Did you like that movie?
I never saw it out because I like white bitches and I didn't want them to like, you know what I'm saying?
I didn't want them to discourage me from what I was doing.
You feel what I'm saying?
So I never saw it get out.
It probably would.
I want to keep my thing with white holes going.
But you have a very, you're like you have a very comedic sense.
Like you're very, I could see you doing comedies.
Oh yeah, yeah.
I could do that.
That's why it was easy for me to improvise shit.
Right.
So that's why I would love like those, because he's still making movies.
That would be fun.
And that was the thing about it.
It was like this movie is such a serious, dramatic movie.
I was a guy that brought comedy to it.
Oh, okay, perfect.
So that was the thing.
And before I guess with the lines that was written for me,
it wasn't that comedic.
But if you just let me improvise,
I was bringing funny the scenes that, you know,
I don't know what they're going to keep,
what they're going to use,
but I think I did a pretty good job.
How long were you on 10 for?
I was probably shot for like a month.
A month straight?
Not a month straight.
I was probably, it was in Cleveland.
I shot in Cleveland.
So I was probably leaving Detroit,
like on the Tuesday,
come back home on Friday,
like for like probably did that for like a month and a half maybe
that's pretty crazy they get it off of Skype
like did you think it was just like a person who got your email
addressed by accident I mean they know they reached out about management
okay at least they did that
it all came through my management but
I didn't I wasn't the thing about it was that I didn't jump
they could have been gay just said fuck me
because I didn't jump to do it you know
I didn't send the audition tape I didn't
it got to the point it was like the last minute
they like just do us just would you Skype us
so you know they wanted to fuck
me. I just had to pee and open up the water.
There was a lot of smoking here and open up
the door. Okay. You know, when most people
understand, I didn't come out here to be a
fucking actor. When I came out here, it was to give it a shot at stand-up
comedy. That's it, that's it, that's it. I didn't know nothing about
writing. I didn't know about the opportunities and commercial.
I didn't know nothing. I knew you could be an actor,
an extra, or you could be a fucking
whatever the fuck that is. That's all I knew. Then I found out about
you could be a warm-up comic. And I
actually went to a TV taping,
And I saw a warm-up comic and I go, I wouldn't do that if you fucking paid me.
But then I watched Brody Stevens.
And I was like, now I wish I would have gotten into the warm-up.
But anyway, to make a long story short, when I got here, I didn't know nothing about that, though.
Nor did I have any interest because I thought they would never hire me.
I thought I would look at me.
I'm like, then I got to put me in no fucking movie.
So the first day in basketball, like everybody kept saying, you're in basketball.
Like at the comedy store, people were going, that's the Zucker brothers.
That's the guys from South Park
Jenny McCarty was the hottest thing in Hollywood
at that fucking time in 98, 97
when I got here.
And I'm in a movie with all fucking three of them.
These are the guys from fucking South Park
that are ripping it up in Hollywood
and I got two days on this fucking movie.
I had like, no, what are you talking about two days?
I shot two days.
I had like fucking three weeks on this movie.
This is when they just paid you.
I just come down.
Just come down, hang out, eat something.
That was the hard part for me.
just being there, but you don't know.
They was mad at me for smoking dope.
I thought, wow, because I was burning that shit down.
Listen, everybody smokes dope in those movies.
It's how you smoke dope.
I know.
I was smoking dope like I was at a music.
In the trailer.
Yeah, in the trailer.
You can't smoke dope in the trailer.
Sag, all of them got to produce here, but it was like, you got to chill.
Yeah, those are white people, Doug.
They smell it, and they get all emotional and shit.
The thing was, I was working with a lot of young kids,
and I was influencing them.
Yeah, no.
Once there's kids on the set, that's it.
They smoke.
They are, they're on.
No, no, it don't matter.
They listen.
They're in their 20s.
Put it like that.
Early 20s.
They could do heroin if there's like, like, I did like six movies with kids with Dean K.
I had to walk a mile of smoking joint because I knew there's kids on the set.
There's extras and there's dogs and that.
Yeah, like the main character is like 16.
Go long as John.
I was smoking dope on the set.
Don't you have to stay in character?
You're a drug dealer.
Yeah, exactly.
That's what I was doing.
Yeah, it was all for research purposes, you know.
There was some sets I go to.
You can write your weed on.
You know, I'm trying to stay in character.
You feel, me?
There's some sets I go in, and I'm a gentleman.
You're there three, four days.
You get to meet people.
One day you're walking through the lot because you're not shooting.
You know, you go for a walk in the sun.
You smell that motherfucker.
You smell that shit 50 miles away.
You walk you.
You run through your room.
Get that joint.
Then you see it's electricians and shit.
I had a good time, though.
You know what movie blew my mind?
How much pot they?
smoked and they kept it
fucking like savages
when I shot
Spider-Man too.
That motherfuckers were smoking dope
like it was a Cheech and Chong movie
and I had no idea. I was on
the other side of the camp
having my own motherfucking party
like I turn to, I'm solo
in this fucking apartment building
and all these fucking art designers
and these producers are getting fucking
stoked and one
Monday I walk in there and this dude
I mean, it was fucking crazy.
Like, after you get...
Like, when you're on the set for three days,
you really don't get the full essence of the set.
When you're on that set for six or seven days...
You get in jail with all the people,
you become free and...
You're free...
You go with the makeup, motherfuckers,
and all that shit.
You see who comes in with bloody eyes,
freaking of alcohol and sperm in the morning.
It was a fucking dirty animal.
Facts.
But it's a great experience, is it?
No, I had a good time.
I got the bug.
I got the bug.
And you know what, bro?
You're going to get 20 movies.
I mean, now I feel like I need to put more into it now.
I probably need to take some acting classes or something.
I don't know.
Listen, bro.
You go on acting classes for six months, a guy like you,
and you're, right, as you say at the church of what's happening,
that's tip-top McGoo.
That's facts.
That's facts.
Six months.
Are you going to go out here in Detroit?
I'll probably come out here.
I mean, come on.
And listen, there's no fucking difference.
It's really.
Yeah.
It's probably better than I do in Detroit then.
Yeah.
You get yourself with some theater, actor, who's a little bit more disciplined,
and they'll teach you how to just take the sides.
We were talking about this the other day, how to take signs and just have them ready for the next day.
Somebody who to teach the strategies.
I really love the improv aspect of it too, though.
Absolutely.
That's the shit that.
Let me rock.
Let me rock.
Remember, dog, that's very, like when you do TV, that's rare.
Ain't no improv going on.
Not at all.
That's one thing I learned, too, though, like, yeah, okay, we're smoking and all that, though.
But I learned, like, the days that I had line, I couldn't get stoned to the guilds like that.
Like, if I ain't had no lines and I just was sitting around, yeah, yeah, yeah.
but I seem like it was a few times
where I got a little too high
Yeah, it's too real
When the lights come on and you're like
Oh shit
They're putting makeup on you
16 motherfuckers like this
Looking at you over again
That's real
So what you need to do is
You need to look at the schedule
A night before
I look at the schedule
My number's eight
I'm in the third scene of the day
I'm in the fourth scene of the day
And I'm in the eight scene of the day
That means I'm getting stoned as a motherfucker
my call time is 8.30.
And I got the third scene.
And the second scene is four pages.
That means they're not going to see me until lunch.
Shit.
I'm going to kick this meal at 6 a.m.
Go in.
Listen, this is the best thing about a movie, Lee.
You ready?
Like, Lee, I don't know why you have not given that kid $100, whatever, $200 or $200 to go get headshots.
Because they're going to book you for commercials.
And, Lee, you're going to be.
so happy. You're going to call
me and say, Joey, why don't you get me into this?
You didn't want me to leave the podcast.
You got the fucking scumbach.
Because once you start doing commercials,
you'll never talk to me again.
Because this is going to be your schedule, Lee.
Your call's going to be at like 8 or 7.
You're going to get up at 5. Have a nice
breakfast for yourself. You're going to
smoke a little too-sul-sul-suits.
But here's what gets great, Lee.
When you get there at 7,
it's a whole other
breakfast. Oh, yeah.
With a tremendous selection.
I mean, Lee, this is the combination I opened with.
So why are you having breakfast before?
Because you don't want no misunderstanding this day.
If we're going to go for it, let's go for it.
Okay.
So the first thing I do on those sets is stop me if I'm lying, dog, right?
You got a little bagel and locks.
They got fresh locks because there's always four Jews on this set.
So there's always a lot.
There's a quota we have to ever leave for.
Lee, they get locks, cream cheese.
So as soon as I see that,
can you toast the bagels?
Yeah, for you want.
And now they got espresso machines.
Oh, my God, Lee.
You can light them on fire.
Now we're not going to fire breakfast burritos.
Oh, my God, they got breakfast burritos.
Eggs, two types of eggs, potatoes, bacon, all that shit, Lee.
And they got every fucking cereal in the world, oatmeal granola, you know, come at me.
The fucking espresso machine.
I feel like I'm.
I'm going to get to a set and they're going to have like a pop tart in a bottle.
No, they don't even have pop tarts on sets.
They have them on big, big, big sets.
You get a pop tart.
Like on big, big, big, fucking sets.
They got, they're going to take care of you.
Dog, they take care of you.
All right, I'll go get a hit shot.
Where do I go get hitchout?
Oh, my God.
The best is when they come.
Like, when I was doing the longest yard, there was one guy assigned to three trailers.
And his job was to come to the trailer every hour on the hour and say,
I can get you some.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, look at them and go, let me get a pastramian rye, two cans of Coke,
and get like a piece of chocolate cake, whatever they got over that.
Lee, he would bring it back to the room for me.
That was his job.
I was doing a longish shot.
I would just sit there.
But see, that was the difference.
Like, I realized, and this is what you got to always remember this,
because I guarantee your trailer had a bunch of stuff in it.
Your trailer had a DVD player.
Your trailer had a TV in it, and it had like a stereo on it.
So now you gotta cover everything else.
What's that, Joey?
Your notebooks?
Your glasses, rolling papers, blumpings,
weed, your own shit, the shit you know you need.
Listen, a book, a book, you can read a chapter a day on a fucking set.
How long till I have to shoot?
Two hours.
I'll see you later.
You hit two, enjoy, you go in your room and you read a book.
You've been one to read, like books I want to read.
I wait until I book something.
Somebody calls me got a movie for you six days.
Fuck it.
I got three books.
You go on there because that keeps you fresh in between the sets.
Your minds are going.
Because if not, you get caught up on the lines.
And that's all you think about when your time off.
That shit is damn that makes you out.
When it's time to work it, it's not even natural no more.
No.
See, that's why I sit in the trailer.
You know, you learn all these things as you go along.
I mean, just you sent something on the podcast I just took in.
You said something like homie said, figure it out three different ways.
And I tick that.
Yeah, that's what you.
Take that advice.
And that's what I did.
And that's what I did.
And that's what I guess it worked for me, too.
Cleesewood shoots three times.
All the top directors, like when they go in, man, and you work with them, they'll tell you, listen, Joey, I don't know what you've done before.
I shoot fast.
They all think they all shoot fast.
I shoot fast.
We ain't got time for this shit all day.
We ain't got time for this shit all day.
So when we get to the scene, we'll do the block and we'll rehearse.
You go, you get dressed, you go to make up, you come back, you do the scene.
I got to do a scene with this guy first.
I'll get back to you like an hour and a half.
When you come back and I'll tell you,
you know, we'll do the scene three times.
We'll do what's in the script.
We'll do one for me and we'll do one for you.
What do you mean one for me?
You want to let your balls on fire and yell the words?
We'll do it.
We'll try it.
And that's a great director because that takes the stress off you.
Yeah, that was the thing, the director I had.
Like I said, like he pretty much wanted me in him, so he was kind of a little...
I'm excited for you, man.
You're going to start working out line.
You're going to love it.
And it's good because you can.
control it.
Yeah.
So you know what?
I just put out an album.
I don't want to deal with a studio.
I don't want to talk to a label.
I don't want to talk to nobody.
I'm going to go do a movie in fucking New Zealand.
That's the goal.
Even if it's just twice over.
I'm going to go do a Denzel movie in Africa.
Whatever the fuck it is, go somewhere for three months where nobody bothers.
And it's like you said, it all coincides and it all like, like, influences each other.
Yes, it does.
When I take that break and I'm doing shit like that, you know, it's just.
I'm still like, that's when the rap's
like building up and shit like that and it makes me miss
that. And then when I come back to that, I...
Your fresh is a fucking butterfly, though.
And it's never like... But big deal too,
the Pressfield book. Like you put everybody up on,
like reading that. And that's when I got into the habit
like you were saying, like
right every morning. Because usually, like I say,
my writing process was me
taking the Adderall and fucking banging out as
many songs as I possibly could.
And of course, it was probably... I would
have a good average thing on live. I write five songs,
three of them was tight. You feel me?
and two of them could use a little work
but we could fuck around and get one of them to work
you know what I'm saying? But now it's like
I could just wake up and
I just write if it might be four bars, maybe eight bars
but at least I'm writing something every day
more so than just sitting up at night and trying to bang all this shit out
maybe two times a month
you know? Like so
like right now I have a lot of songs
like I'm more prepared to work on an album than I ever have been
just using that.
format, you know, and I haven't been
even writing on after all, none of that,
you know? So that's a good thing too.
It's crazy. Did you read
On Writing by Stephen King?
Listen, man,
every writer has their fucking thing.
You know, what's the dude
in Woody Creek Tavern that
the Pirates of the Caribbean
shot his ass out of the Canada?
You know, Hunter S. Thompson.
Oh, yeah, Hunter S. Thompson.
You know, all these dudes, you know, the dude that was
that lived in Cuba, that wrote that book,
the fucking wizard that has, in Key West,
he's got a home with 150 cats.
What the fuck is his name?
I don't know about this.
Yeah, man, he lived in Cuba and shit.
What the fuck?
Lee, wake up, cock's second.
What's going on with him?
He looks like fucking zambota great.
What's going on?
That's what I feel like.
Why don't we're going to eat five more stuff?
No, we're not.
Let's eat three more.
No.
Why not?
I'm not.
Because that's what?
$3,300.
Let's go $2,300.
How many, how many you eat today?
Let's go for it.
Why?
I'm fucked.
I'm falling asleep now.
No, you're not falling asleep.
You just said to wake up.
No, because you were like this.
You were cross-side and you were looking like Saratiana before.
Yeah, so three more stars.
So what?
Syrieta.
It was a legend, no, man.
Saratiana is my girl.
It was 17 minutes.
I got what I.
It broke.
It broke my fucking heart.
When she told me she ate a star, I just looked at it and I go,
I go, this ain't going to be good.
And within 15 minutes after she told me, not even, I'm lying to you guys, within seven minutes, she was already starting to lose a color on her face.
She came in here looking tan and beautiful.
I could see, and I looked at Lee and I go, let's start this fucking thing.
And we started and we're over here bullshit and we're dancing for the song in the beginning.
And all of some, the song wore off.
And I could see that when you're fucking with your earphones, that means that means that you got them close by and
In case, you got to take them off, throw him up in the air, and run the fuck out of here.
That's the number one signal, I just gave it to you right there.
When you see a motherfucker, Owen Benjamin was fucking with his earphones.
He was like dumbbell over here, flapping his fucking things.
Once they start touching this, that means they're going down.
Pilot the bombardier.
Pilot the bombardier.
It's hot.
They get hot, and I saw, I looked at her again.
That was the quickest one, though.
Bro, she's fucking 100 pounds.
No, I know.
This is not her world.
You see me?
I'm not fucking with them right now.
I know my limit.
Like, I know what they do.
The stars are like the Wultan Clare.
They ain't nothing to fuck with.
They're not going to fuck.
I've been telling people that shit for years.
Listen, bro.
It's going to get you where you need to be.
I like it in a sense of, like I said, it helps me when I'm at home, I'm eating stars.
Check out.
Look what I found.
Oh, my goodness.
What are the corn?
Twinkle, twinkle, twinkle.
Glitzen Star
How I wonder
Who you are
And Spittitos my Lord
Lee now you gotta eat
Oh there's another one there
Yes there is
Oh my goodness
I have one
That's fair
I have one
I have one
That's crazy
Lee
Lee
That's crazy
Lee
Lee I'm telling you Lee
You tell me what
When you said that email
to me, you didn't know what
fucking door you opened.
What email?
I thought I got high and sent him to weird email.
Lee applied for a job
for a fucking pizza guy
and he sent me an email.
And Lee had no idea the door
that he was walking.
God damn a pizza hook.
Like a month later he got bronchitis
fucking hilarious.
I gave him a hit a
hash.
And now you're up 2,000 milligrams.
2000, even the fucking people who invented the company said you ate 3,000 milligram.
The girl, the face, they got to put your face, they got to put your picture on the store.
They got to put your picture on a bag.
I got to get something.
Yeah, like you need to be the logo, just your face.
So you went back home.
You went back to what I consider home, New York City.
Oh, yeah, I went to the chance dragging in.
How many times did you go?
I mean, I only went, I went that once because right before I went, I had to go to Dublin.
I went before I went to Dublin.
How was it?
How did you get there?
I took Uber.
And you went right to chance.
I was standing in the Lord East Side.
I always standing the Lord East Side when I'm in New York.
Perfect.
It was a little travis.
It was about an hour drive.
But I know it was like a 30-minute shot.
Now, you got me addicted, too.
Like, I feel like I can't go to New York without going over there.
How was it?
Because it was empty.
It wasn't nobody in there.
You know what I'm saying?
I got the Coke Coke number one.
That's what I called.
The dispatcher.
I got the spare ribs and the pork fried rice.
I just got a little poo-poo platter, you know, the whole, you know.
for the appetizers, you know?
Damn.
Had some mitis.
I was drunk as fuck you.
Oh, they had two of them.
I was so drunk.
You know, I always went in there as a fan of the food.
You know what I loved?
It was so fucking hot.
Outside or inside.
No, I'm talking about the food.
I never had rice that hot in my life.
Like, that shit would fucking make the roof of your mouth hang.
Oh, yeah.
Old Jewish people don't fuck around.
They want their food hot.
Oh, that shit was good.
It was good.
Did the poop of my mouth?
The best, like you said, the best, the only thing I can compare it to is like Benihana's.
Really?
How people, just Benihana rice, that rice is just as good as Beni Hana to me.
Always does.
And I go to Beanieana's a lot, and that shit is expensive.
I went to Benzana a couple weeks ago with my wife.
I looked at the tab.
I went to the father's date of the day.
I was like, ouch.
Yeah.
But I got to tell you something, that shit's good.
It's good.
Holy shit.
My wife said, let's go to Benny Hanna.
I go, you know what?
Let's go.
I haven't been the Betty Honey on eat.
What's that garlic butter, man.
Is it?
Yeah.
Yeah.
On the mushrooms.
Yeah, but that shit fattenes you up, dude.
That's the only place I order mushrooms.
It's definitely the butter, though.
But the rice, like I say, Benihana rice is my favorite rice.
Like, out of Chinese rice, whatever type of, you know, Asian rice you want to say.
But Chan's dragging him was up there.
It was up there.
Let me tell you some.
It was up there.
So when I first went to Chance, I went as a fucking food consumer.
Like, I would see, like, two creepy people at the bar, and that's it.
And then I moved.
But when I went to.
back to North Bergen in 93.
I kept hearing it for like
three or four years. Dog, we hang on
a chance. I'm like, no, you don't.
And they would talk about getting fucked up
a chance with those bowls and snort
and blow. And I'm like, so also I went back
home and guess what? I was
going to chance and people
go at night, you don't eat, he's sitting, he
at the bar. You go to the bar, you get
a mitai and you order like pork
and fried rice, and you can sit at the bar and watch
the net game. That's what dynamite about
that place. Where the fucking
Can you eat pork fried rice?
They watch the game.
And watch a nickname like that with booze.
You're right.
You're right.
That's what steals it.
Yeah.
Nobody.
Oh, my God.
You don't know how many times I went in there and just chilled and didn't even get the rice.
The food is fucking.
Got the roast pork and two egg rolls with a fucking hynican or one of those Chinese beer, Shinshow.
Are you fucking kidding me?
Some spicy mustard.
Some spicy yellow mustard.
And you watch the nickname.
You don't have to eat like a savage.
You go on the back and he'll let you smoke refrit.
He'll want to say that to you.
You can smoke reef
And then, if you notice,
that's only 10 minutes from the bridge.
Yeah, it's right there.
So we'd be hanging.
And then, you know, so I'd go,
you want to make a move?
You know, what do you want to do?
Who's going to make a move?
Fuck him, me and Leo take a run.
And, bro, we would sit there.
We'd come up with 800 an hour.
Let's go.
We'd shoot right over George Washington,
right over to 1709,
around that building.
I'd go, because they were open only to 1.
So you had to catch them by 1.
But the Coke was fucking.
How long did that place?
has been there? Chans Dragon Inn?
Chance Dragon Inn? The first time I discovered Chance Dragon in,
honest, honest, honest, I was 16 years old.
And that place has been there. That's like I'm saying. That's what I had to...
Still the furniture.
That's like, I can tell. It's still like, it's still like the Christmas.
It's all original. Like...
The Christmas sign has not come down since I was a child.
That's why I had to go, hearing all those stories you told about it.
That's like the mecca of the church right now.
You have no idea?
You know what I'm saying?
You have a part of church.
You have to go to chance.
Some other dudes went, some other listener went and ordered spare ribs and took pictures.
It is such a...
But I've also been the old Aku Aku, in Worcester.
And there was another place.
I think it's next off root 9.
In Boston, that pork fry rice ain't nothing to fuck with either.
That's in Boston?
Yeah.
Boston got good Chinese food too.
Colorado.
got good Chinese food to Pittsburgh
I had Chinese food
in Pittsburgh that crossed my motherfucking eyes
dog yeah that's crazy there's a couple
places of Philly
Philly you could go to a few
Nah
Boston was weird
Because down the block from the
Woolton D there is like a Sudo Chinatown
Yeah oh no yeah it's a legit Chinatown
And the food was
horrifically bad
It's not to you go to the suburbs
Knicks off of Route 9
You know Worcester Aku Aku Aco
Worcester, that place had the best shrimp and lobster sauce.
I put it up there with chance.
It was brown.
They didn't fuck around.
I think you mean Route 1, maybe.
Yeah, Route 1.
Route 1.
I'm sorry.
I don't know my root.
I'm all fucked up.
I never had Chinese food in Boston.
You never did?
I didn't know Chinese people was in Boston shit.
That's fine.
I said Chinese people like dog shit.
They're everywhere.
Chinese people like blacks, Cubans.
They're everywhere.
When you really get surprised.
When you really get surprised, like the first time I went to Aspen, Colorado.
In the area,
1983, I went up to Aspen, the party.
And you know me, the first Chinese signal I see, a Buddha,
I'm going to go to those motherfuckers.
I love that stuff.
I've always, I grew up on Chinese food.
For the minute I came from Cuba, my mother threw me into Chinese people.
But I feel like that's just the East Coast in general.
It's, I loved it.
I don't know, I don't know nothing else.
That's just like the easy quick fix.
Oh, my God.
going to New York being broke and just trying
to like going work in the studio. That was the number one shit
three wings and some pride rice.
You know what I'm saying?
Or a slice of pizza?
A slice of pizza?
Or if you go real broke in a beef patty.
Oh, I was just going to fuck.
Oh my God.
Oh my God.
Oh my God.
Oh my God.
You know what I said?
A beef patty and hold you down.
You know what I'm saying?
Oh my God.
Coco bread.
I haven't heard that shit in years.
Bro.
I'm telling me I lived off beef patties in the studio.
That was my number one go to.
beef patties or like you say
get one of them
little deli sandwiches
even like
even like it's
you know
listen bro
there's a place
in North Bergen
on like 60 something
street
how went in there
one day
for a quick fix
of pork fried rice
it was delicious
I'm just saying
they just got it
right
they can't get it
they really try hard
in California
my wife's been making it at the house
it started all good
she makes pork fried rice
you all got
the tacos
on lot
that's what it is
The Mexican food out here is what it is.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, I don't eat tacos nowhere else.
But you're right.
It's just meat on paper.
What's that?
The tacos.
Out here?
Yeah.
But tacos everywhere else ain't like out here.
You can go get the regular, like, taco truck.
That one taco truck by the Ace Hotel, that motherfucker is fire.
That's 24-hour one.
Like, that's my favorite shit.
I was driving.
I was hungry.
I was stoned.
I didn't want no drama.
And when that's the recipe, I go to cacta.
and I went to cactus
and I got three
carnita tacos
and I hate those
motherfuckers
and when I went to pick him up
the outside of the soft shell
burnt my hands
which means those carnitas
were fresh
I washed my hands
I got on that phone
who you think is the first person
I called my little brother
and sent them out a mission
I go Lee I don't know
what you're doing
I really don't give a fuck
what you're doing
I know how much you enjoy food
get in your fucking car
and go get two carnitas tacos
they're fresh
they're fresh
they're right out of the oven
I went over and looked
when I touched him
I went to get napkins to see
and they were carving the fucking bone
the pig was
his head was still there on the town
oh my god
it was fucked up
because the day was like
100 degrees
and I had just gotten home
and he called me
he's like go back out
go back
go back go back
I don't give a fucking shit
no when I'm out here
I eat tacos and shit
and it's the best place
to get that shit
everyone ain't nowhere else like
Like, even like New York with the pizza.
New York pizza fire, Chicago pizza good.
You know, when you go to certain places, you know what you're getting.
Like, people don't know, Detroit, get a corned beef sandwich.
I think we got the best corned beef.
Like, if you go to a real hood spot, like corned beef sandwiches,
like, I eat corned beef, like, other places.
They don't do it the same way we do it in Detroit.
Like, that's, I think our thing is corned beef.
Isn't that with Irish people like?
Yes, yeah, corned beef, man, with the cabbage and all that shit, man.
But corned beef sandwiches in Detroit is,
not like corned beef sandwiches everywhere around the world.
That's what I, the way they slice it, the way they cook it, everything about it, we do it totally different.
When I first like, or shit, I don't know.
When I got the bow to dog, I got the bowl that was a lonely dude and I started selling cars.
I had a girlfriend and shit, but I started selling cars.
And one of the first dude that was solid.
I could trust was a dude named Jim Wheeler, a dirty white dude from Detroit.
Dirty.
Like dirt, like, what's a dude?
His name, Slim Shady.
He grew up with black people, the whole fucking thing.
He was solid.
He would tell me...
You're a white boy for Detroit.
You ain't know, got a guy.
He gave me a shirt, Detroit, but he grew up a white black motherfucker, you know?
He gave me a shirt, Detroit, the murder capital of the United States.
That's when it was the murder capital, the late 80s and shit.
We became tight.
And then he disappeared.
I asked people, some guy just friended me on Facebook who was tight with Wheeler.
And I asked him, where's Jim Wheeler?
He goes, uh...
Then I asked another guy.
and they said he's selling motorcycles.
His kids got into motorcycles,
so he's selling motorcycles.
But this dude was such a solid dude.
He stuck out so hard in my life at that time.
Like he, I got locked up,
and my name was in the paper and shit,
kidnapping the whole fucking thing.
You know, before I got out,
I was advised I didn't have a job or anything.
Night I got out, I checked my answering machine.
He called me, the dog.
I'm the sales manager
in a Subaru place in a long month.
I just talked to the own.
I got your job.
Come on down the month.
You had my back.
You know what I'm saying?
He's one of those dudes.
That's the real shit, yeah.
And when I went to Colorado,
but in the early 80s,
one of my tightest dudes,
like I was just out of New York City.
You know, like when you're just out of the hood.
Like, I was still a little rough and tumble.
I carried a piece.
And you go to some shit like this.
I was burglarizing.
No, and these guys.
played football. And then he came up to me.
You want to play football on Sundays? It's family
type. We all grew up together.
We're from Michigan and they're
from fucking whatever.
So one Sunday I went down and half
the crew was from Louisiana.
Some of them were black, two of them.
And 18 of them were white.
And the other guys were from Michigan.
Everybody was white.
Well, let me tell you something.
The guy's name was Donnie.
Look at them. I forgot about this guy until just
now. His name was Donnie and his
girlfriend was banged
banging and they were both
from a town called Ishmine
all the way up north and
Detroit, all the way in Michigan
Oh, see what I'm trying to tell you so many places
This motherfucker fucking place got penguins and shit
Oh yeah
That type of shit
You have a peninsula
That's what's called UP
UP, yeah
UP
So he lived in the UP
Ouch that's the own of the world
Listen dog
The UP is all to the world
Bro, motherfugs up there riding snowmobiles
So like we ride a car
80,000
I become friends with this guy.
He's one of these white dudes that talks like, he's one of these white dudes that talks like, yeah, you know, like those dudes from the UP.
Like, if you listen to guys from the UP, you can tell.
You never met somebody from the U.P?
Even the fucking Cuban doesn't do from the U.P.
I've never met anywhere.
Well, let me tell you what happened, though.
Let me tell you a short story.
I actually should visit that shit one day.
I've never even heard of it.
That's what I'm going to go if I went away.
Let me tell you short of simple.
Like, I should see it.
I met this guy in July.
and we stayed friends. I go to his house, smoked dope.
He introduced me to his fucking little friends from the UP.
And the UP? He used to go up there?
No, and then one day, he goes, I'm going home for Thanksgiving.
What are you going to do?
I go nothing. I think my buddy's going to make a turkey.
He goes, fuck that. Why don't you come home?
And my dad would love to meet you.
And I go, okay, and I bought a plane ticket.
And I flew into somewhere up north.
There was like an hour and a half drive to his fucking cabin.
His family built the cabin in 1910.
And they lived in it and they had to cut wood to keep it wall.
And they were telling me about ice fishing.
And on Thanksgiving Day they had a tradition.
They would play on something that had ice on it.
Like these motherfuckers were that tough.
Like they would play football, tackle football before the Dallas game, the Dallas-D Detroit game.
Like this was crazy.
Like the whole family were flying.
And they would play like one quarter of football and kill each other before Detroit played Dallas.
For a Thanksgiving game.
Bro, they treated me like family.
They had no reason to.
And I never forgot that Michigan love.
So when I first got into comedy, I had a buddy who said, dog,
where do you want to feature first?
And I said, seriously, I want to go to Detroit.
So he got me a job at Joey's Comedy Club in Dearborn, Michigan.
Where the Arabs in?
Yeah, and at that time, it was starting to get Arabi.
It was 95.
It was 95.
We called Arab, though.
But it was starting
Now it's the largest
That's where it's gonna go off from
Oh no, Burton, Dan Barn, you go out there
Just nut that shit like Saudi Arabia.
You don't even see nothing with English writing on it no more.
Every building got some fucking...
I've heard about that.
Yeah, that's how it is.
The best fucking, you know, you get the best hummers out there, though, Lee.
Oh, yeah.
They might cut your fucking head off.
They got the best hummers out there.
You know, the swamas.
Oh, I do like swanmer.
Yeah, they got the spires swamas.
Do they have Israelis?
Just it all.
Mediterranean and shit.
If there are Israeli places all go.
Now, what is Mediterranean qualify?
When you say, I went to a Mediterranean place.
I think that means everything from, like, Israeli, the Greek.
But that's what they always call them.
To, like, they're in Mediterranean.
Yeah, Lebanese, everything.
All of it.
And it's like the McDonald's, everything.
It's pretty much, they're all very similar.
And I got a gyro in a Mediterranean place?
Yeah.
Yeah, that's probably called swanilla.
The same thing.
My shot, I get the liver and rice.
Oh, you like liver?
I love liver.
From a Mediterranean place?
Jesus Christ, what is going on in the world?
Like people eating livers at a Mediterranean place.
Felipe's a vegan, a Mexican vegan.
Now I got a black dude who eats livers at a fucking Mediterranean.
I think I like the rice being having peanuts in it sometimes.
Oh, Jesus Christ.
The rice kept the peanuts in and I don't like that.
You don't like the peanuts?
I love peanuts.
That crunchy, you know.
That's the best part of anything.
I'll tell you what.
The Kung-Pow chicken is as crazy as I'll get.
Every once in a while you get a peanut in there,
and it ain't bad.
I don't like it.
I don't like peanuts.
Yeah, I don't like peanut tea.
I don't like them.
My shit's going to be soft.
That's why you don't like Thai food and shit.
They give you that peanut milk.
Thai food is too spicy for me, yeah.
That's like someone coming to you and be like, hey, you know,
I put a ketchup on my hot dog.
I'm crazy.
You're going to shoot fire out your ass eating Thai food.
I'll never forget somebody.
He said, you want some coconut soup or something?
I was like, are you fucking crazy.
Cognin of shrimp fire.
I fuck with coconut shrimp.
Oh.
You go to Jamaica.
You eat Jamaican food?
Beef patties.
No Jamaican beef?
If that count what, like jerking on it?
You like that?
I don't like it either.
I think it's fucking nasty Jamaican.
I can't really do it, man.
Oxtails.
I fuck with the oxtails and rice.
I'll fuck with a Cuban ox tail, but I got to know him for like 10 years.
They got to show up with a resume and shit.
The restaurants got to be stored.
It's got to be fucking, tell me the day of.
Like, tell me the day you make it.
Say it when you're the day to cut the tail?
No, tell me the day you cook it fresh.
Don't make me coming here and I came on the third day.
And I got the cocktail sitting chilling and just warm it up for you.
No, it's kicking.
I like chitlin, so I'm bar-fucked up.
What's Chitlins?
Pig and testers.
Yeah, that's deep.
That's deep from Uncle John.
Holy shit.
My family eat raccoon.
What?
How?
Michigan ones or the Mississippi ones?
Michigan.
I don't know where they're from, but everything's given.
It's a raccoon on the table.
How do you prepare a raccoon?
I don't know, but he'd be there with the head, everything.
Coom.
And the food and the meat?
You ever tasted?
I ain't ever ate the comb.
But like I say, Chitlins is enough of me.
It's there if you want it.
And hog mugs.
Like, I eat the hog mugs, too.
I eat pig feet, too.
My roommates.
I eat the pork, though.
I eat the pig, though.
I eat the pig.
rooted to the tutor. I ain't gonna lie.
I ain't changed.
One of the Jamie Foxe saying I'll leave, remember he played that character
and they used to get drunk and talk shit.
And one day he said, listen,
I could give up the point.
But them white women?
Oh, yeah.
I can't give those.
It's the same thing, shit.
But I guess, I don't know.
I probably could give a pork over a white man before I give a white woman.
I get them.
I agree with them.
Because, yeah, but I don't know, man.
You got a lot going on.
You got the movie.
You work out the round.
Yeah, that's the main thing right now.
But shit, thank God for the fucking church and Stephen Presfield.
I'm working a lot more than what I normally would be.
Because like I say, I usually, which is tight in some sense too.
Because like I say, I'm not the type of guy that go to the, like, it's rappers.
They go to the studio every day, which I get that.
That's like, you know, if you, like in the book, it's saying that's like being a professional.
You working on that craft every day, every day.
And I don't think I could be that kind of artist that just records every day.
The writing aspect is the most, you know, intimate part for me.
That's the part I care about the most.
I'm in the same goal as you.
The performance part of it, you know what I'm saying?
Like, because there's a lot of people that I'm a fan of that they probably don't have the best deliveries
and the best, you know, a way of presenting what they're doing,
but I can hear how good the writing is in it, and I still can become a fan of that.
So at the end of the day, the writing is the most important thing.
part to me so long as I wrote some good shit I feel you know real confident in what I'm doing
wearing the I'm not going to say in the past but I'm not much of a rap like a good rapper in that sense
where I know I can have not that much of a good rap but I can perform it that good to make the shit
tight you feel what I'm saying so now it's just all about the writing and the performance is
secondary where I feel like maybe I wouldn't say the past album but maybe you know just not even
just a few songs here in there where I'm
I know the performance outweighed the writing,
but right now I feel like the writing
is the number one goal for me right now.
Let me ask you something.
You ever write something that you really like
or for some reason?
It didn't click with everybody else.
It didn't click with everybody else.
Yeah, all the time.
All the time.
And I wrote some shit before.
Did you ever bring it back two years later?
And it clicks this time?
I mean, with my music, it always kind of works like that in some sense
where I put some shit out and I don't get the initial response
where I feel I'm going to get
and then two years go by
and everybody's saying it's the best shit ever.
but I have done songs like that
where I put my all into it
and no one
I don't know
maybe other shit
overshadowed it
and then I made songs
that I didn't do
feel like I put any effort into
and it became some of my biggest song
and that's the fucked up part about it
like my biggest song
probably like one of my biggest songs
like grown up
it had a great video and everything
but I literally wrote that song
in like 10 minutes
it wasn't even like
a song I meant to make to put out
And they became one of my biggest songs ever made.
Do you test out your songs?
I have, like, people that I trust their opinions.
Right.
And they've been, you know, been working with me for so long,
and they know what my quality and what my level of type of stuff that I'm making
so I can respect their opinion, and I play it for them.
But for the most part, I'm so critical on myself that I'm, like, my best A&R.
Well, because I was thinking about the process that Joey goes through
because he tested out at comedy clubs and artists.
No, songs are different.
You just got to release the album,
and they're like, well, I hope they like this.
Yeah, I hope they like it.
Yeah, pretty much.
That's kind of crazy.
It's very stressful.
That'd be kind of interesting when you see comedians.
Putting out of album, I feel like putting out of album for me,
that whole stage of once it's done,
and it's in the mixing and mastering process,
and it's getting to the point where the cover's done.
That's like one of the most stressful times
that I ever been through in my life.
Like, I'm literally missing sleep.
I don't, you know, before the critics review it,
before the people hear it, like, that's like one of the most scariest times.
Because I feel like with me, I'm not like,
it's make a break with every album.
And that's the thing I think where a lot of people,
I think a lot of people like me in that sense
because I treat it like that,
and every album I put out as a risk.
I never did what could work for me.
I always try to, like you say,
I want to make motherfuckers take the ride.
You know what I'm saying?
So I never did what people expected me to do
and what I, and what's been able to like me to do.
Like I can do what they want to do
and they enjoy that and they would love that.
But they always be like, fuck that.
Let me see how far I can take you somewhere else.
You like that shit.
Let me twist and tangle that
and figure out another way to present that to you
in another light, you know?
Every part, every album you release.
Totally different from you.
You're a comedian, a rapper, a fucking tap dancer.
You're putting out there what's going on
through your life right now.
you're channeling something that's going on through your mind,
through your heart, something that bothers you.
It's a piece of you.
Yeah.
Whether it's somebody who don't put their fucking blinkers on
to this chick you had to throw out
because she gave you the herb
or something fucked up.
It's just, I'm just fucking around.
So it's...
But everybody don't think of it like that.
And that's the thing that hurt, too.
Well, because...
Like, we do motherfuckers that look at it.
They let bullshit go out with good stuff
so they make people search
so people don't want to take chances,
no more.
Man, no, no.
You act, like, even with music, I feel
like, there's only some people that listen to music
and their car going to work, and
they're happy with what the people give them, you know?
And they can probably hear a song,
they don't like it like that, but then you hear it
every day on your way to go to work before you know it.
You hear it in a nightclub and everybody danced at it.
You're like, oh, I like the song, now I know this.
There's only so many people that could just
hear that shit and know that's bullshit
and know the shit that's around and be like, I want to
seek out and search for something better.
Absolutely.
And they look for something better.
those times in my life where I'm like,
I'm tired of the shit that I'm listening to and just want
to find something new and just seek it out
and just find something. Like, what is new?
Or get to the point where I'm like, what's old
that I haven't heard before that can inspire
me, you know, and try to find something.
Like sliding the family stone.
Yeah. Even you said, like, Superfly, you said
in a podcast not too long ago. And I went back
and listened to Superfly. Brilliant.
Brilliant. The whole fucking
this shit they was talking about
I had no different than rap music. No, it was.
and it was the early, early, early origins.
He was kind of rapping Curtis.
Yeah, it was rap.
On Superfly, he was kind of right.
Like, I feel like that was the music that was, like you said,
when Black people was black.
That was the, the motherfucker was getting confidence off that shit.
Like, they was pimping or whatever doing,
they was doing at that time.
But that was the soundtrack to what was going on?
Did you ever listen to the Army put on after Super Fly?
No, I never was a Curtis Mayfield.
Come on, I was born in 81.
Just kidding.
You know, I go back and listen to some old music,
but most of the old music,
I went back and listened to.
was all the most
I feel like I'm going back and just listen to it
like I'm the type of person that I go back and start
his top of the albums ever
and pull up a Rolling Stones list
and go listen to a Beatles album or a fucking David Boyer album
you know.
Half the time Curtis Mayfield ain't on that list
and slide a family stone ain't on those lists, you know what I'm saying?
But half that shit was influenced by those type of
motherfuckers though. You know what I'm saying?
Did you hear
like when I put that family affair on
it, it sounded tremendous life?
I listened to it.
That baseline, that damn sounds like a Jay Dilloughby.
I stopped it after the third time and went out to the bathroom and smoked a bowl and came back,
and I couldn't believe I was listening to what I was listening to.
Like, I was ashamed to myself for forgetting about Sly.
I seeked out something old.
I couldn't listen to Deaf Leopard Pyro-Myro-Many no more.
I couldn't listen to fucking, what else was I on the track list lately?
I had a horrible.
I meant to audio slave.
Chris Cornell's band
with Rage Against the Machine.
I started from the first album
fucking tremendous, the first two albums.
I never listened to the audio's late.
I like the first album, Cochise.
Put Cochise on the video for me.
Watch this, what's this?
This is...
I mean, I love Chris Gordonew.
All right, so he boogies from Soundgarden in 97.
See that?
They have allegations.
Pop, pop, pop.
He disappears.
Okay, he did it perfectly.
I'm sitting there one day, and I'm like,
I wonder what the fuck Chris Cornell's doing.
And there was a dude at the comedy store in those days.
You never seen this video, my brother?
No.
Blast this song for my play here.
30 fucking million views.
Put the music on.
Yeah.
Cornel is 9-inch Mills, right?
Huh?
No, that's Trent Resner. I'm tripping.
Yeah, Cornell Soundgarden, and the other guys are,
Rage Against the Machine.
They all get together.
First album.
They're on the Tonight Show
Wrake, Rage Without Zach?
Rage without Zach.
See, I didn't...
Yeah, nobody knew about this shit.
But watch and listen for this shit.
Yeah, Tom Arello?
And this is 99, 2000, when they were still
spending money on videos.
See, I would graduate from high school then, so I definitely knew it.
Watch, watch, watch.
I watch another MTV for this.
Fuck yeah.
I didn't remember this.
This is tremendous dogs.
Yeah, you gotta flush this sound out.
This first audio play about.
I remember this.
Fuck yeah.
But not if you're saying, like, I realized how big this is.
But then I didn't understand.
Sound garden and radio if the machine clicked up.
Yeah, they would spend the money still.
Yeah, this is a million dollar video right here.
Yeah?
Right.
99, you know they was tripping.
That's why we ain't got no money.
money in music not.
These motherfuckers, they spent it up.
Look at this.
Damn.
Yeah, I'm having to music together.
That is kind of crazy.
I didn't realize it was going like
raised in a machine
and they have it with sound like.
And that must suck for them
because that's loud going off.
I wonder how they can do this.
And they had to do this a couple times,
I think maybe it's a one thing.
Right here.
Check this out, right?
It's tremendous.
I can't believe
You still can't believe it
But you move on
Fucking
Raids on day
You know, the band is raised
Like
And now someone singing
Instead of someone rapping
See, this is the first time you hear this
So they
They had to have it on
For the shoot
But they only let you hear it at the end
They took like one of those
When they go, all right
Let's hear the temperature of the room
Now hit the next one
Oh damn it
Sorry I'll go
Hit the next one
Watch this
He don't know about audio
I mean I just
I swear I remember
I'm telling you I forgot about it too dog
I was in the corner around this time
I get pissed off
When I forget about music
So what's one do you want to watch?
The one right up there
Show me
How to Live
And then you ever see that movie
With
the fuck.
Tom Cruise and Jamie
Fox, collateral.
Is that the name of it? Collateral damage.
What's that?
With that movie? With Jamie Fox
at the end, when they're driving
When they're driving...
When they're driving...
When I get that proof.
When they're driving through L.A.,
you see the fucking wolf crossing the street
soundtrack?
That's fucking
audio slave, too. I think.
But listen to this shit
Crank this Lee
Kick that meal, cocksucker
Here you go
We're back, Lee Syatt
We're back, Cossack
It's over
You're all right
There's a mosquito trying to kill me
So many mosquito bites are all my body
I don't know where we have this office
Maybe you stink a shower
That's that fucking hummus
You eat that fucking hummus
And it comes out of your pores
And it attracts mosquitoes
They love hummus?
Nah, so that doesn't fucking sweat.
Kill that, fucking.
Now you got me all fired up with the hummus now, my text.
Yeah, hummage is nasty, Lee.
Let me give some shout out for a quick here.
It's hummus is nasty, man.
First off, don't forget, Friday, Saturday,
four shows, Long Island, bitches, governors.
Listen, it's going to rain all weekend.
You have nowhere to go.
There's no party at the shore.
The Shaw house you got, you got Dick to do this weekend.
Governor's Long Island.
Why sit in traffic?
Why sit in traffic?
You're up there already.
Levy Town.
Honey, the whole fucking caboodle.
Bring Reefer.
Bring some fucking clam chowder.
Whatever you got.
Listen, Irv Hughes.
I love you.
Benjamin Paul.
Billy Sadass.
Patriot 615.
Randy Thomas.
Punch drunk podcast.
Thank you for having me on.
Drew Skilt Chin
and the infamous
nah or something like that
who the fuck knows you know me I'm trying to
put pieces together also
Thursday
fucking 4th of July weekend
June 29th
Ice House working out with Uncle Joey
the small $10
bill I do an hour
who the fuck knows what we talk about
we smoke refa weed stars
and I do comedy instead of doing a podcast
fuck it
so what's going on you're going to put on a double album this time
hell no
that's too much double fucking
Detroit
funk bringing it back.
I record like maybe
30 to 50 songs
and then just narrow it down
to the best shit that I got.
30 to 50 fucking songs.
Yeah.
I'm working on like
I would say
I have, I'm just
thank you. I'm just so
thankful for you know
for you man
because you've totally inspired
this writing of this album
because I have a way more prepared
than I ever been for a project
than I ever been like just
even if the shit that I got
now I don't even use
but just to be that
I'm already like
just to get the wind
beneath your wings type shit
I've been in a stride
just writing like
I'm confident to like
going to any studio
and just do what I got to do
and make some good shit
who helps you in New York
who you record with you?
I mean I can't we talk about that right?
Let me get a lighter.
I still got to keep that one
under the rest
but it's gonna fuck people
world's up
yeah no no no I like it
anybody got a lighter over there
you have?
I think I probably stole y'all
Jesus Christ on
You know, I'm a cigarette smoker or something.
I have one.
You all had the white one.
Lee, what's going on with that chocolate?
You forgot?
I'm done.
Let's say you.
Where?
You ate all the chocolate?
No, he's got one little piece over.
Come on, man.
That ain't all right.
Come on, man.
This guy came all the way from Detroit to see.
Yeah, come on, man.
And you disrespect him.
Come on, man.
You know, your little pieces.
That little pieces are going to do it there?
You're going to let it go to.
You're going to let it go there.
It's for the man.
A little piece, man.
Forget it.
The mouse don't want no chalk.
It's too hard.
You put a mouse?
You got a mouse in here?
Yeah.
That's the one.
We don't have a mouth.
Don't fucking believe.
It's an expression from when I was a kid.
If you went to my buddy's house, you see how that couch has that gap in the bottom?
That's what you would have a dish under there.
And if you went over there and you, like, broke up Coke or did a line off his shit, all he asked is that you left the line from.
Put him up.
He said nights he'd go into that.
He goes, some nights I went in there, there's like a gram of Coke.
I hit the jackpot
Like four people came over
And left like a quarter gram from
And shit
See I'll leave something for the mouse
You know what I'll leave something for the mouse
If you got no coke
Leave a bud
Leave us a little tiny bud
Just to get the party started
And nobody's feeling scared hurt
I'm saying
I want you in town for my brother
No I'm
I'm actually have a show Sunday
I just came to hang out with y'all guys
You know what I'm saying
I'm happy to say
Pay my house at the church
I miss y'all
You know, I saw you not should all go in Detroit.
That was great.
That was great.
I was, you made my night.
Sorry, the fucking place.
You got to climb up a ladder.
Oh, no, I want to climb up a ladder.
It's Detroit, man.
I'm used to climbing up ladder than that am over.
But the place is cool.
I don't like the guys that were standing in the first show, but then he adjusted it for the second show.
And the second show, I did a lot better.
You know, it's tough to do comedy.
And standing venues.
You know, there's all.
Has it like doing a rap show that's sitting down in you?
Like, that's the hardest shit in the world.
So I get it, you know
So it's the opposite
When you do a rap show
You want them to be standing
Yes, you have to have to be
Sitting down is like a theater
Like it never works
I mean for like maybe someone that's singing
It's just like they're watching you look at the show
For someone that's singing or maybe
They're all gonna get up
If it's in a theater
And it's like a rap audience
Don't they just get up?
They got up for the fucking for buddy Howie
And they don't have a choice
they already stand and they might
respond to you better than if they were sitting down.
I'm sitting down at the rap show unless you're
motherfucking Biggie and
Tupac on stage together. I ain't going to stand there.
I'm going to take them and make use of my seat.
You feel what I'm saying?
So I can get it. I'll be sit there and smoke
by weed and then look up at the screen.
You ain't even going to look at the stage. You're like, fuck it.
So, and he's like, you know, that's why
playing those big venues, like,
playing stadiums and shit.
Like, I play Wembley Stadium,
opening up for M&M.
That was like the biggest shit I did.
Like 50,000 people
or some weird shit or something like that.
And that was like crazy.
But I get it.
Like, you can't,
there's always somebody that's bored.
50,000 people.
I don't know if it's 50.
I might be a...
Who else is on the bill?
My biggest one of the stadium.
I don't know.
Who else is on the bill when Eminem?
It was me in our future,
Tyler or creator in our future
at Wembley Stadium.
So whatever Wembley Stadium
Hold, he sold it up.
Jesus Christ.
And it's a big motherfucker.
That's a big motherfucker.
That was the biggest show I ever played.
Oh, my God.
You don't even want to know.
90,000.
Oh, so.
As I said, I was in front of about 50 because I was opening.
So that's the number I had.
He's like 50,000 people here.
So Eminem is still amazing?
I'm opening for them in Glasgow, I think.
Coming up this summer, so.
Yeah, keep fucking in me now.
What do you mean?
I've never seen mine.
It's great.
That's really cool.
I mean, I'm just blessed to be able to, I mean, being from Detroit has a lot to do with it.
And just me working.
So I'm just, like, we have the same management.
So I'm just blessed to be a part of that team because I don't know where I'll be at without those guys, you know?
Because that's one thing about me.
Like, I don't, I'm not signed to, like, I'm, I'm,
independent artists but I have major management and that's what a lot of artists
price should realize you know like it's not about the record label anymore it's
about the team you have around you know and that's what worked for me I don't
know if it'll work for anybody else but that's what I feel like work for me is the
people I got around me that's why I owe them everything so shots out the big
homies dart and Paul you know no you were I gotta tell you something man
The more I get to know you is the more I love you.
I mean, you're, uh...
They don't make them like, you know.
Your parents did a tremendous job.
They had you at 16.
Yeah.
They did a tremendous job.
They opened up their home.
They adopted.
Which, when you adopt...
Yeah, that is kind of...
That's a supernatural thing to want to do.
You know, I look at mercy.
I even think about that shit sometimes.
Like, I don't want to have no kids, but I might adopt one day.
Like, fuck.
Jesus Christ, after what happened to me,
The people that opened their homes to me,
the beauty that I've seen about people
who have just said, listen, that's your refrigerator.
And this just didn't happen once to me.
This happened a couple times.
People said, don't know, you want to live here,
stay here, you know, whatever's mind is yours.
That's a different beauty.
You see a different beauty of people.
That's something.
Especially coming from where we come from
because, like, the East Coast and the Middle East Coast,
like if people ain't the nicest people in the world in those places,
you know, to even do shit like that.
When I was in Boulder in 94, I think I told Lee once before there was a dude who's named was Sammy.
At the time, it was 95, so who the fuck knows how old that was?
That was 22 years ago.
I lived in Boulder, and I lived in a little rocky apartment, and had a screen TV, another big screen.
I had a nice tritron, and I had a weightlifting bench.
So that it used as a coat hanger, a weightlifting bench, and a weightlifting bench, and that was a weightlifting bench.
It's where I would eat dinner and I had a little love scene.
I put my feet up.
And it worked for me.
I had a bathroom and I had a kitchen.
And the bedroom was one big mattress.
And it was my rocky apartment.
So I started working with into the sports betting service.
And him and his girlfriend like either felt bad for me, my situation that I was like a comedian.
And I was doing the sports betting.
And I was, at that time, I only had my daughter like 10 hours a week.
But they were like, listen, bro, we live down the block.
you. We don't want you to be
alone. At night, we're going to cook a dinner for you.
We're going to make a key for you. It was fucking absurd.
And I would just go over that night and turn on that movie with
Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans.
The detective movie.
Eddie Griffin was in it.
He was on a train. Was it in him?
No. This is about them too.
He's a private detective. No, this is
before Money Train. This is 19.
The last Boy Scout
The last Boy Scout
The last Boy Scout
That was late
I watched that movie
80 fucking times
Thinking about how I was going to be a comedian
Thinking how
What happened?
I'm bug flitted my mouth
Jesus Christ
Let me ask you a question
There was that bee for another
Does the bee on a plane
You know before
We're playing a video
It's music
He's swatting it shit
And I'm catching him
I'm sitting there going
Is this motherfucker
going crazy. And I go,
you know what? He's reacting to the lights.
Maybe his eyes are sensitive.
What he had was a buck.
Now, you and I are sitting here.
You're chill. Listen to me. Let me just
talk to you logically, Lee, just so you know.
A week ago, didn't Ralphie make him in here
and a bee flew in?
Yeah, did he saw it? That was funny. That was so funny.
Yeah, but every day is something that's always on you.
And every night he goes to me, how come you don't have no bugs by you?
Because you don't see these bugs?
No, because I, you know why you got some.
You know why you got the bugs,
why?
Because a hummus
and the truck of the shit.
That nasty shit comes out of your fucking paws
and you attract these fucking butterfly.
You don't see them bothering me.
A bug just went into your mouth.
You know why?
Because you have hummus residue
in your throat because you didn't list of reindeas.
You didn't gargle like a nasty bastard
that you know.
If you were to gargle this morning,
you won't have that little hummus
fucking gurgle.
goat milk
fucking a garbonzo taste
in the...
What do you eat with?
With pita?
Sometimes, but usually
I like swammer.
You put hummus on your swammer?
Yeah, you just...
You don't see this fucking...
Oh, look!
Yeah, do you see him going around
the African-American?
Do you see him bothering the Cuban?
No.
He's bothering you.
Now, you're a Jewish.
Which means you're a high-qualified race.
Why would a
bug be bothering you.
They shouldn't be bothering you. You know what they bother you? You can eat that hummus.
And you attract that shit.
It comes out of your fucking paws.
They eat hummusis all over Israel. I don't know what you're talking about.
As soon as you walk in the door, I can tell when you ain't hummus.
So where you're walking, I can smell on your back.
It comes out of your back pores.
The hummus.
So I can't imagine what that little asshole of you.
It smells like. And tomorrow, wait for that doctor.
I guarantee the doctor's going to tell you, throwing the
thing, you have to get naked, you have to put those little
robe on with your ass showing, he's going to bend you over
and you're going to hear, oh, I guarantee.
I guarantee you've been shitting weird for years because
hummus, McDonald, Taco Bell,
pizza hot connection.
Nasty man. It's probably less the hummus and more
of the other things.
With the hummus is like fucking concrete.
That's what keeps all those other things together.
Then the glaze from the stars.
goes right over that.
Jesus Christ.
I can't imagine with your stomach doing more.
Where's that star you were talking about, Lee?
You know, the bag?
You know, sit on that like fucking Johnny Blaine.
I have no one star.
Let's eat some more stars.
Right here.
Where's that star you're talking about these?
We don't even know what these are.
These could be red.
This is like the purples.
All right.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh, yeah.
Come to me.
And the world will be all.
He's saying he's doing it up to the gills.
But he had like three stars.
There you go.
We're going for Brooklyn.
One more.
There you go.
Look, Lee, Lee, Lee, Lee.
Look at you.
Oh, they're so pretty, too.
It's over.
It's over.
Lee, Lee, Lee, Lee, Lee.
I told you, when I always don't
I cut into the West Coast's the person day.
That's three hours of time.
We're going deep tonight.
And Lee, you know what don't matter?
Guess what else?
Lee, you always hooked up.
What?
want people who sit there holding all poorly leaves leaves leaves always
hooked up because as soon as we leave
as soon as the show leaves Lee's got three
slices of pizza in front of them. I don't want that pizza?
Why not? Yes, you do.
Let me see it. Let me see it.
I don't know. Open it up. You can have it. I don't want
no fucking pizza. So what do I have to have it?
Because you love it. You're Mikey from the
Oh yeah, Lee. That's you.
No, thank you.
Oh, Lee, let me tell you something. Lee, listen, please.
Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about.
I know.
You've eaten pizza with 7-Eleven hair on it.
You'll eat this at one point in the night.
I've never had 7-Eleven pizza.
Second of all.
First off, I got you on camera.
Don't lie to me.
I got your own camera.
I've eaten plenty of things at 7-Eleven, but not pizza.
What do you eat that 7-E0?
Do you see what they got?
They got that new jalapeno cheese hot dog,
which every time I go to 7-Eleven,
I think about for about three minutes,
because I'm not sure if it's my Alaska.
What is it?
Oscar May and Mayolansky, it don't matter.
I just got hot dogs.
When I was growing in school in Boston,
they used to have like this spicy chicken wrap.
That was pretty good.
And after that, that's really.
It wasn't many 7-Elevens where I grew up at.
I didn't start seeing 7-Eleven, so I left the hood and booting.
Wait, what's the story with that stock?
I had enough story.
No, eat one more.
I don't respect.
There's two right there.
You even got pizza to bail you out.
Two more, man.
Come on.
I'm not going to see it.
Sully.
My star sandwich.
It doesn't mean anything because you're going to call in a bar.
Nothing to call you a ball.
I'm not going to call you anymore.
You might go back to tonight.
Eat those two stars.
Eat those two stars and let's get out of here.
They're on the table.
You already do it.
Let's do this shit.
The first day of summer.
That's right.
It's the first day of summer.
I already had like 9,000 milligrams.
Lee, you see me.
You're sub.
What the fuck, Lee?
I opened me.
Lee.
Let me explain some to you.
I ate three stars before I gave you one.
By the time, remember I gave you a double?
I don't know.
You think like, yeah, you think like I'm retarded here.
I ate three as I was talking to the periscope.
Then I started dropping them on you after I already ate three.
So whatever you wait, you got to eat three.
Why?
Because we're a team.
That's why I know.
Go get the fucking.
Now go eat those two fucking stars and stop complaining.
And you got a bong hit waiting for you guys.
He might be able to get over with it.
He brought a fucking bottle of Anazette.
He might sure to get over with it.
great night, Lee. Just throw them down your trope.
Lee, we're going to be fine.
You have no way to go to my and know what to be.
I have a doctor's appointment.
That's why it's even making me do your moot fit.
I'm not supposed to drive to Beverly Hills and get a finger up my ass.
Fucking hot as fuck.
We've already done like 2,400 milligrams.
No, we have.
Yes, we have.
No, we haven't.
I've done eight stars.
All right, you want more, we're even.
No, I don't want.
One more.
One other two.
Come on.
We're fucking Danny Brown flew in.
The guy got stabbed at the airport in Flint.
Yeah, I'm within maybe.
Jesus Christ, Lee.
Have a little fucking decency.
I can't interview with my church people.
We don't ask you for nothing.
A little decency, a little respect.
I love you, Danny Brown.
I can't.
You can't do it.
We are seeing Lee tap up.
No, we ain't tapping.
I'm talking.
Listen, when I did the Wing show, I didn't tap out.
Lee's not tapping out.
I did how many stars did you do?
I did eight stars.
All right, one more even.
Nine.
No.
And five.
Nine.
Do the two.
Eat the fucking style.
Don't put a chin on the first day in time.
Jesus Christly.
Eat the goddamn star.
Why you're going to?
Just put them together like a sandwich.
It's going to be easy.
You haven't even have but.
I can't eat a star right now because I'm a different.
He's a Muslim.
It's a Ramadan.
No, I haven't even converted from fucking Europe time.
What?
I was in Europe and then when I got back home, my time zones, like, you know, and then I'm
out here.
You got pizza.
My time zone is all fucked up.
Like, thank God for your guys.
I'll be sleep somewhere right now.
You know what I'm saying?
Let eat the goddamn stuff.
You got pizza.
You got jitterail.
You got paper towels.
You got a couch.
You got the Saratiana couch.
We'll call your buddy.
He'll leave the air conditioning on.
We take K.
Yes, he will.
You can crash in here tonight.
That ain't going to be bothered you, man.
You do that shit all the time, Lee.
DeBron fucking.
I'm telling you, every time I see, I learn more and more from it.
You'll like a lot.
a young fucking Marvin
Oh man, I'm 36 years old.
That's who you look like with this new hair color.
Like a young Marvin gay.
I take that as a compliment.
You got to take it as a compliment.
Yeah, Marlon is a bad motherfucker.
Think about all those motherfuckers.
He was running.
He was Strait.
He was running around in Detroit.
Like all that shit is like my neighborhood too.
Like even just being around there, I think I get that.
I don't know.
It's like going to Changes Dragon in.
I got your energy.
What happened to the stuff?
You put it back.
You're out in your hands.
I know.
You were three-quarters there.
What are you doing?
Just eat it.
Jesus Christ, Lee.
Why is everything?
You left chocolate on the table tonight.
He makes it horrible.
He makes it horrible.
And then he lets me creep and then he lets me get in his head in the morning.
I call him early and I start telling him, listen, we're going to work tonight.
Like last night, I tormented it to about 5.30 in the afternoon.
Then I gave him the hook.
I said, don't worry about nothing.
Really?
I don't know making it difficult.
I ate 18.
100 willingly.
I don't need to do.
800?
What's two more at this point?
Making $2,000 even.
And that's it.
Listen, you already got 18.
What's two more?
What's two more?
What's going to do?
Nothing.
Just throw down your fucking snap and we'll
get this party started.
You go on.
A lot of you.
I'm cut a stone, though.
Yeah, me too.
Everybody's fucking stuck.
That's the purpose of this whole podcast
and let them know who the fuck DB is.
I think.
Lee, what?
Lee, don't make,
listen, this time.
Last week you tapped out,
the week before that, you tapped at this
one, you'll lose stripes.
I'm far to sleep.
It's not going to be good.
I never saw Lisa yet tap out.
I know, this is terrible.
Danny Brown on the show.
You got to be the running Jew.
Can you fucking believe this in this day?
You're going to be the running Jew if it is.
No more blind Jew.
Kick that Tony Bennett.
You're halfway there.
You're halfway there.
You have it in your head.
Just eat the fucking thing.
Where you?
Throw it down your throat.
Where's your water at?
You got 19.
You got 19.
You got 19 bottles.
You got 19 waters over there.
You got more waters over than 7-Eleven.
Oh, he ain't one?
You ain't one?
No, he's got this creepy little hair.
Go ahead.
Oh, yeah, he's pulling that shit.
You're pulling that shit.
Where's the other one, they're saying?
You're both right there.
You might be able to get a sleeping bag.
Will you please take one of this finish?
Do you have a senior coach.
Anyway, DB, this is what I deal with everything.
I know.
I love.
I never saw Lee Chapman.
No, it's getting worse and worse.
It's getting worse.
It's starting to fall.
Yeah, it's starting to fall apart at the seams.
Last week, he complained about being six.
It's the summertime.
Come on, Lee.
It's about to go deep.
It's fine to go deep.
Dog, any day now he's putting his resume on zipper crew.
I can tell.
I can tell him and his girl.
Him and his girl.
for the talking about
that he's stuttering
and shit
he's doing too much
oh he goes home
and then
I can't do it
yeah I care
about
I need you make it home
you drive
it's not a bad job
I'm here the floor
in the morning
he told him
at 7.30
wake up
I'm smoking
morning
but look crazy
the night
it never ends
I get like three hours
asleep
but yeah
okay
okay
but no so
it ain't no different
you like
he's done at the start
you get that you're
at the start
you get your number with it
You can't let them just sit right there, though.
Like, you took him out of the back.
Take him back and put him in your back.
No, come on, let's go.
Take that, no, don't give him dick until he eats that star.
He's got to eat that star before he gets anything.
I'm not, he gets nothing.
He's starting to pick up.
He's stuck these bags of gills.
Oh, yeah, he didn't fucking around.
Like, God.
Lee, why are you thinking about it, Lee?
Oh, my God.
I've almost peaked at three times.
You haven't been.
Come up.
You know, there's so many.
The reason why you're abused is because of fly water in your mouth.
Or so you say.
I haven't seen a flying years in this office.
He sees Maltra, bees, Jesus Christ.
These bish is glowing, too.
Would you please eat this stuff?
No, I ate eight of them.
Come on.
Too long.
You said 1800.
So you're lying.
No, I said it.
I'm telling you.
I ate like 2,000.
What is this?
You ain't like six of them.
You ain't like six.
No, I ain't any of them.
Listen, I'm not talking about the fucking chocolate.
How many stars have you eat?
What do you mean? Why does it matter?
Because we're not talking about the chocolate.
Yes, we are.
How many stars have you eating?
How many stars have you eaten?
Age.
All right, so you need two more to compound it.
But I'll tell you what I'm going to do.
But I'm not...
Because I love you.
Forget the two.
Drop the one and we'll drop the conversation.
Drop the one.
Jesus Christ, Lee.
Why are you going to be a crime baby?
Eat the goddamn fucking thing.
Wednesday night.
I'm not going to see you for a couple days.
10 minutes.
I know.
You're such a fucking...
Inhale that thing.
Get that party start.
You got all day tomorrow.
You can make waffles and mama.
You got this.
Look at you.
You're stressing out.
Eat hummus.
You eat hummus, but won't eat another stir.
This is the shit got me.
That's just...
And hummus is just...
You don't want to eat a stir.
Then he goes.
No, eight stars don't even equal up to what a bowl of hummus is.
He goes to a fusion.
I mean, it never ends.
You know what tomorrow we're going to do after they eat some hummus?
They kill theirself.
Hummus is delicious.
They eat hummus didn't put bombs on themselves, but just do shit.
DB, this festival you're doing this weekend.
Where is it?
High Times, Cleo, Michigan.
And then where are you next weekend?
I'm actually off for a minute.
And I think probably my next show is Pitchfork Fest, which is your country.
which is like one of my favorite festivals to play.
I haven't played in,
this is like my third time playing it,
but I haven't played in like two years.
So it's going to be fun.
Are you dying?
No, it's a nightmare.
Did you eat it?
You got it?
You got it?
You got it?
There you go.
Just swallow one shot.
You put it just both in there.
Let your intestines do the work.
Just swallow it like it's a meatball.
You go along, Island this weekend.
Yeah.
So we go to Long Island.
Are you going to chains?
No, it's too far.
It's too far.
Look, look.
Look at him.
It's like he's in an alley.
We're trying to stumbies put a dick in his mouth.
Look, look at him.
What happened to the other one?
You know, he's the other one?
Pretty, man.
All right.
Fuck it.
Look at Lee's eye.
See what I'm saying?
Ladies and gentlemen?
We're having a good time here.
I'm happy you people listen to the podcast.
We're just three fucking,
Mombo is having a good time.
In California right now.
Lee is done.
Danny Brown, got a frown.
and Uncle Joey is stone to the gills as usual.
Let's read some ads, and I'll get your motherfuckers out of here.
Don't forget, you're at the High Times Fest.
I'm in Long Island.
In the following week, June 29th, I'm at the Ice House $10 show.
It's a work out night.
Lisa will be there, always shaking hands, giving out of bubble gum.
Lisa, that's a bad motherfucker, bro.
I told Lisa that he had the other night.
That he's killing himself to live.
He stays home every night.
Like Sabbath.
Yeah. He should be out every night of the bar, shaking hands.
Taking pictures.
He's a fucking animal.
People always ask him from.
Where's Lee Siyadh.
I want to stay home.
This Lee is...
He ate 2,000 milligrams.
He can't.
What did he say?
He had 18.
He had 18 and a chocolate bar, 250.
That's too...
He ate 2,000 milligrams.
He didn't eat nothing.
He's been eating 2,000 milligrams.
I'm cuging your...
car. I'm pew.
You're not going to
puke him, dog.
You've been doing this shit for years,
man. Years. Do you have
you an animal? He went to another restaurant.
He got sick again.
He bled on.
Of the lizard meat? Yeah, no, no.
Some of the lizard meat. I got sick before I got to the restaurant.
Yeah, no, no, no.
I don't eat there. No, he said. Because we ate,
we ate, what did we eat?
What did you? What did you? Yeah.
We ate two and a half, and then one and a half.
So what's that?
Five.
Yeah, okay.
That's five chocolate bars in two days.
And then I can't...
That doesn't matter.
What did you go eat with your wife?
We went to get hummus.
Okay.
See what I'm saying?
Okay.
I answer myself, Pete.
That saved me.
I deal with this shit on a constant level.
The hummus saved him.
One minute I called him.
I don't know what I'm going to do.
The chocolate got me sick.
I did.
And then next thing I was eating hummus.
He's having gelato.
Like he's fucking Fred is there.

Oh, shit.
They smelt the fucking bun.

I also want to thank my man DB who's falling asleep.
No, I'm not falling asleep.
It's late night.
The edible has got to him.
No, you know.
My man Lee Syatt
who was sitting here thinking how he's going to get rid of it
so he could eat that pizza in peace
and kill the edible.
I'm not eating that pizza.
My first day
was it would be that three hour time shit.
Who the fuck you can't eat that pizza with?
I'm throwing me a while.
Why are you throwing a while?
I'm trying to get that shit in your sleep.
You're trying to do what?
You're trying to do what way.
I'm trying not to get that 300 pounds again.
That's my favorite shit.
When I'm fucked up, Edelwell, I just be asleep.
I just be like, wake up and you start eating shit.
You only realize you ate it and you just wake up
And see rapids and shit everywhere
And be like fuck
That's my shit
You went up in the hotel room
I just order mad shit
And just wake up and it's gone
I just order rule service
And eat it in my sleep
Be in the bed
Like
I swear every once time
I just had like chicken bones
Like scooping up mashed potatoes
Go
Like savage shit late hours man
Once that room
Sometimes get cut off man
You ain't got
no choice.
Oh, when that room service
got to all your fucking...
You're eating
Pringles, you're eating everything,
the M&Ms.
There's few people
that have
24-hour room service
unless you're in there.
No, it's few.
Four bills a night.
Yeah.
There's a few places.
You know, in New York City,
you get up.
You know, you can go up to the street
or next door.
You're going to get something.
You're going to get something.
But there's places that, ooh.
With 25-hour room service,
you're right hands.
Like the light.
And I ain't talking about that bullshit 24-hour menu when they just got like a tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich.
I'll take that.
I ain't two pound a bag.
If you get back to your hotel room at 2.15 a morning.
And they got a day to eat.
And they got that full menu, though.
At whatever time the food menu at whatever time.
They usually have, they got leaves menu.
They got wings, burgers, Caesar salad.
What else?
they got a soup.
Yeah.
You always call for the soup.
They probably got a tomato soup.
And you can give the cheeseburger try, but you're going to shit blood.
You don't want to eat.
Yeah.
That night chef is on account.
I mean, but when you're at, when you're just late, you don't give a fuck.
You just want some meat.
Oh, when you get, but most hotels now, you get back there and they have a thing called, like, the local store and shit.
And I'll tell you what, they got shit in there.
I wouldn't eat it.
But if I'm really hungry, I go down and I get the trail mix.
Oh, yeah, you just some trail mix.
It's better than getting the ice.
cream cone or a
fucking pizza from stofas.
Up until, I get a hot pocket.
I won't eat that fucking hot pocket.
You're fucking nuts.
The only hop pocket I like was ham and cheese.
I mean, they got it. I mean,
whatever you got to do at 3 in the morning and
fucking Pittsburgh or some real
shit. Any midwest town, that's
where it's really fucked. Like, being in Cleveland,
like, at fucking we got
upset, the hotel, like,
they run that shit was over with. And like, too many
restaurants around. Like, I was starving.
You restaurant was like the CBS?
Yes, like I'm living on snacks.
You're living up the snacks in the hotel room, the M&Ms and the Pringles and shit.
Like, that shit was killing me.
We were in Detroit that night on the way home.
Fucking what's his name.
Yeah, there was nothing.
And what's his name?
Stopped and got canned cheese.
Oh, my God.
The squeeze.
And taco shells.
That's cancer for sure.
No, not the squeeze.
They're one of the can't.
Oh, K-Sof.
They leave right by the potato chips.
Yeah, K-Sov.
And we were eating that shit in the hotel lobby.
It was delicious.
That motherfucker
when we stopped
he put a lid on it
Matt Fultron
and took it up to his room
the next day
on the plane
he was like
I had this shit
for breakfast
Jack
I go god
damn
you learn some tricks
when you on the road
man
did I tell you
what happened
that night
no
you know
I know
I know
homie
and he hooks
us up
every other week
so I
scheduled it
the week
I went out there
for you
and people
you're gonna shit
your fucking
pants
this could only happen
in Detroit
Michigan
or in Ferndale
as they say.
I take a three-quarter full bag of stars.
Yeah, yeah.
I go to Milwaukee and Milwaukee.
I think I ate two of them or three of them
just to warm up before I went on stage.
Because if I eat a lot of stars
before I go on stage,
the lights start to bother my eyes.
They start going like this.
So I used to be off Mali.
Yeah, so the lights really bother your eyes.
So I always just take a few
just to get the blood going,
just to let the liver.
I didn't abandon you.
So I, uh,
ate like three of them.
And the next day, I ate like three of them
and I decided to see you.
So I go, fuck, I ate like four.
Because he'll eat a couple.
And I put it...
Yeah, when you got there, you said you lost it.
It wasn't in my...
I folded it old school style.
And I put it in my hooded sweatshirt
because it was too big to fall out of the sleeve.
In the old days, I would have tied a nut.
And I'd walk...
I dug.
I passed cops at that shit.
That's old school on the...
quick. When cops say that you keep
walking, hey, what do you got in that bag
you? And I have that hooded
sweatshirt flipped over with that
arm hidden. I'll put it in the pocket.
You're a fucking genius right there. That's old school
ganges. I didn't put the knot
on it. So somewhere along the line it fell out. I was
disappointed. I thought you were out of stars.
And the next thing you know,
we all go back
to the hotel. We
go inside. We
eat. Matt Fulton says he's
leaving. And our friend from Canada
goes, I got to go back. I go,
let me walk you outside.
We walk outside in the front of this
whole town. And I go, was that your car?
She goes, yeah. And I look up.
Five feet from the van
is the bag of stuff.
On the ground. Right
fucking man. No one touched him. Nothing.
Nobody even saw those
fucking things. That was a jackpot.
And that was all I was working.
They wouldn't even knew what they were fucking was.
They were fresh. They were fresh.
All I kept worrying about is a kid was going to pick those up with three little cousins.
I think of the candy.
Let's eat a bunch of these.
And also I'd be on the plane reading about three kids in Michigan that ate medical marijuana.
But they recovered the bag and my fingerprints around them.
My mind was going.
This is my mind.
See, Lee, I get the same thing.
Yeah, that's the period of the show.
Leo called me.
No, I'll be on that same shit, too.
You know, I had the weirdest shit ever happened to me.
this was in Australia
and I
I went
I never do this
I had a show
and I had an after party
I never have after parties
I go to the after party
and it's this girl
this weird girl
she just keep fucking with me
she's like keep being around me
and fucking with me
and I'm not paying her no attention
the way she wants
so she eventually gets to the point
where she cusses me out
like fuck you
you think you all that blah blah blah
I get mad and I throw my whole cup of Hennessy
in the bitch face
Like, the bitch is soaking in Hennessy in the face, like, blah, blah, blah, whatever.
I get security kicked the bitch out the club.
When I leave out the club, the bitch is already waiting by my sprinter van.
Like, she just dare.
So I'm like, fuck it.
I threw her in the van and whatever.
We get back to the hotel room.
What?
Whatever happens, happens, whatever.
All I do, I was in the bed, I was, like, falling asleep.
And I hear her on the phone, like, arguing with, like, a boyfriend or something.
No, I'm not with Danny Brown.
I don't know what you talk about.
Blah, blah, blah, blah.
This and that.
I lie.
Or whatever. I pass up. I wake up in the morning.
And I get up like normal shit getting up on.
I just trip over the bitch shoes.
And I look, you know, the bitch didn't take shit.
Like she left the room, but she didn't take nothing.
Like her purse, her panties, her socks, her shoes.
So she left in a hotel room just ass, just bottomless.
So I'm thinking to myself like, what's happening with this?
Like, did the hotel's here
Leave out my room naked?
Like, did she just walk up
The street naked?
Where did she go?
What is going on?
I have all her shit right here.
I'm talking about her purse and her wallet,
her ID, everything.
I'm freaking out at this point.
I'm thinking I'm about to leave out the room
and I'm about to get locked up in the lobby.
You know what I'm saying?
I mean, nothing happened,
but that's like the scary thing.
Did you find her?
No, I don't even know.
To this day, I don't even know.
What'd you do with this stuff?
I just folded it up real nice.
Yeah.
And left it on the thing.
the table in the hotel. Even my tour manager.
He came in my room and I told him about his. He's like,
oh shit. She ain't wanted to touch the
wallet. Man.
No, I don't think so. This is her
ID and shit, though.
Did you wipe everything down? No, I didn't.
With Clorox?
No, I didn't. I don't know what happened to.
She left my room naked, though.
So bad.
Hard clothes left
in my room. It disappeared.
So I don't know.
What's like an unself mysteries?
How fucking crazy is that?
I was terrified to leave my room.
And then when I left out, it was like some police out there.
I thought, like some politician was staying at the hotel.
They were guarding him.
But I literally thought, like, I'm going to jail in Australia.
This is the worst shit ever.
I had a horrible experience in Portland, Oregon.
And when I got home, she was on Twitter.
And she tormented me for about two months.
And she just disappeared.
You're like, what happened?
You never showed up again.
Came to two years in a row.
Tormented me a little bit of the first year,
tormented me a little bit of the second year,
then she really got on Twitter
and would send me direct messages and shit.
There's one day they just disappeared.
Disappeared, yeah.
No, I have been through.
See, I'm over that, man.
Like, I don't know.
You know, every night and then you get sucked back into some bullshit,
but I'm so much over that.
Just going, just the drama and the stress.
Everything is all cool until the next day type shit, you know what I mean?
And I'm just tired of living like that at this point.
Like you said, like you said, like you was tired of this shit by the time you was 38, I'm 36,
and I get what you're saying.
Like, I can see myself in two more years and be like, man, fuck every.
You know what I'm saying?
But it's just like, it's the life of a rapper.
Like living like it's hard kind of to just, just,
One thing's hard for me is just being in the hotel room by myself.
That's almost like being in jail.
Like those late nights just being stuck in the hotel room
when you can't sleep.
That's when bad shit happened.
That's when you get in trouble.
Like the Chris Rock joke,
that's when you go into the ATM at 2 in the morning.
You feel what I'm saying?
Like, and that's my trouble.
At 37, I was seeing the field
and what I wanted a lot more.
And I knew in my heart that whatever I had going on in Boulder, that was dead.
That was never going to happen.
The dream of me raising my daughter in Boulder and being a comedian, that was never going to happen.
If I went back there, it was just going to end bad.
So I was already committed to staying here, and I met my wife in 2000.
This next weekend is our anniversary, 17 years.
Congrats.
17 fucking years.
That's crazy.
I think I met her for lunch, and then I asked if she wanted to drive me to Lake Havins school for a gig.
And she brought her kitten cat, Finney, and the fucking Spadometer broke.
It was a fucking nightmare run.
But, you know, what, after that, we started dating.
That's how I go.
That's how it was.
That's where I met.
17 fucking years ago, Lee, you're coming up on an anniversary, Lee, right?
Yeah, four years.
Look at you.
Four fucking years.
You buying a ring now?
Now she got a job and shit.
You ready?
Not yet. You ready for Freddie?
I need to save money for a ring first.
Yeah, that's the thing, too.
How much is your budget for a ring?
I haven't even thought about it, man.
But it has to be like, what?
At least four or five thousand, at least, right?
Four or five thousand.
What is the commercial section?
20 points of your action.
I don't know.
20 points of your action for this?
Oh, fuck.
Oh, my God.
I can't.
No, I can't do it.
I'm on a lead budget.
I don't know what the...
But then how much is the threats and all that shit.
I don't know what that.
The commercial was the slogan.
About the same?
Three months salary.
Everything is $5,000.
Yeah, yeah, three months salary.
Everything is $5,000.
Oh, shit, okay.
So you got like...
That's not going to happen.
20,000.
$25,000 budget for a nice wedding.
Jesus.
Oh, a wedding, yeah.
I'll do a wedding for that much.
Not the...
No, you're not to shut out for the ring.
She's going to pay it for you.
In a couple weeks, you're going to come home.
It's what is it?
It's July by September.
You're going to get the message that this is the kind of
rings she likes. I already know what
kind of ring she likes. That's been known for like
three years. She's already told you. She's
already showed it to you? Yeah. Yeah. With that
McGaism ring she likes? Yeah. It's over
look at you. And you locked it down already?
I don't know it. I haven't locked it down. That was the same right there though.
I haven't locked anything down.
Don't get me wrong. Everybody, you need that
though. You need that. I don't know how
kind of like she likes.
Because I'm not, I'm not
responsible like that.
To not to be like on my own.
You feel me?
Like, I gotta have somebody, like, hold me down.
Like, I'll be, I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have, like,
I can't wash clothes and shit.
I know that sounds too.
That's like the smallest shit, but I just can't do, like,
I can't change the tire.
I need a girl that's going to change the tire.
You feel what I'm saying?
You know what I'm saying?
You know, man?
Once I catch a flat with a bitch and she hop out
and crank that motherfucker up and change herself,
and that's the bitch I married.
No.
That's right.
Yeah, brother, I always wanted to beat Charles Bronson.
you, niggins.
Charles Bronson always lived alone.
You know what I'm saying?
In all his creepy movies,
except Death Wish,
where they killed his fucking family
and raped him.
Oh, yeah.
But, you know.
Other than that,
he was in there like a motherfucker.
Death Hunt,
he lived in a fucking hut.
The other place with the watermelons,
he lived in the Colorado
and the hut by him.
I don't think he had a love interest.
In hard times,
he fucked his off-screen wife,
but he put her in there,
and she was just a prostitute.
But he lived by himself on like a bed and a mattress and a room with a light.
Like I always thought that's how it would end up.
You know what I'm saying?
Charles Brown.
That's how I'm going to end up on a fucking bed by myself in the park.
We just a pistol.
Oh, my God.
And all of a sudden I met my girlfriend, bro.
And it was like two years.
I'm like, I don't know if it's going to worry.
Then we started living together four or five years, six years, seven years.
You got to pull the trigger.
Exactly.
Eight years she was starting to look a little fucking agitated.
That's right.
And I called her up and gave her a date and shit and the rest is history.
I told her in September and we got married November like the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
Listen, I called her in September.
I called her in September and said, can I, can we, would you marry me?
She said, yeah, when do you want to get married?
I said the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
She goes, isn't that a little too quick?
What's the difference?
If we're going to do it, do it.
Yeah, get it over with it.
What kind of budget do we have?
That whole year.
Like going through that shit?
I'm with you.
I'm ready to get it over with quick, too.
I don't do it in like eight weeks.
Listen, I don't have time to get distracted.
I don't even want.
I just go down to the floor.
I'll sign some paper.
I don't get what a fuck.
And if a woman, if a woman doesn't know that about her man,
you shouldn't be getting married.
Facts.
If you know that if he's in the studio with some special people
that helping him out, make his out.
Don't call him up and ask him the color of the chair,
because he ain't even thinking of that fucking chat.
So this is what we're going to do.
We're going to get married.
We're going to get married.
Let me see what...
Let me look at the calendar.
Let me see what week I got off.
The week after Mexico, I'll come back and marry.
Well, I was thinking, no.
There ain't no thinking.
There ain't no thinking.
There ain't no fucking thinking.
Oh, you're right.
Well, my mother can't come.
We'll fuck her then.
This is how we're doing it.
We're doing it right here at this joint.
you liked the place, you even said it yourself.
I want to get home. Listen, we ain't got time.
I'm on a fucking tour.
This is the Danny Brown.
Who keeps the lights on it here?
You know what I'm saying?
Who keeps the fucking lights on this fucking tent?
Right.
You know.
So that's the, I don't mind that shit.
That worked out fantastic for me and my wife.
She was solid, though.
Like she didn't bother me at all.
She just put it together.
We got married on Wilshire Boulevard in one of those places.
that you walk and it's like a long as you're going to the back
and they have like a fake fucking altar
with a priest and they marry and your friends come
it was tremendous.
And we had the party at the Hollywood Bowl
and we catered it.
And that was it.
That was it.
And it was a Wednesday.
We had to invite nobody to fly long distance.
There was no bullshit.
Part you said a story like, man, I hate getting invited to win.
Oh, my God.
They're fucking.
So I don't want to.
I was putting pressure on somebody by and by the
I wouldn't even invite no.
Dog, when you invite me to a wedding, you're fucking insulting me.
Yeah, because how do you tell the motherfuck or no?
No.
Like, oh, I, sometimes I tell them no, and sometimes I just insult.
Like, weddings and funerals are like the most awkward shit to me.
I don't want to go to neither, you know what I'm saying?
I will if I'll have a choice, but if I can skip out on them,
graduations, all that shit.
I'm just not with ceremonies and the type of situation.
I don't know.
There's nothing.
I don't get any.
I get, I don't know, I just don't feel right.
Some people need to have that built into them.
I don't have that mechanism built into me.
Should we validate it?
No, no, no, no, no, no.
I had a friend here.
I had a dear friend here.
Wherever I play,
whenever I play San Francisco, she shows up.
She's beautiful from Texas.
But brother, I never saw nothing like that.
She went to the University of Texas and Austin,
and she was in a sorority.
And my brother, D.B.,
I knew, you know, I hung out with her boyfriend.
I hung out in that comedy circle.
She wasn't a comedian, but she dated a comedian.
They moved here together, and I knew all of them.
Bro, there wasn't a much that went by.
She didn't go to a wedding.
I mean, it was, like, I'd go over and go, where's your wife?
Where's your girlfriend?
Oh, she went to a wedding.
What was the wife?
Like, I'd go, wait a second.
Then she'd go to a wedding two weeks ago.
Yeah, and she's got one next week in New York City.
I'm not going to either.
she would go to weddings
because all those girls from Texas
moved and were getting married
all over the country.
I had never in my life
seen, and I asked her once in a
go, you pay for these things?
And she goes, yeah,
they send me the invite.
You just dare, like, no.
And I asked her why, and she goes,
because one day I'm going to get married
and I went off.
Oh, them to come to my 18 sorority sisters
to be there.
And I got it.
I understand.
That has to be expensive, too.
Oh, fuck.
that and people
requesting you to go halfway around
the world now
like I always get emails from people
you gotta buy your own room and I think
I discussed this once before and somebody said
that somebody wanted to get married
like in fucking India
like they wanted to get married like in a tomb
of and they told the people
know and the people took them off their
Facebook thing and never
talked to them again I'm like
she that's his team man touring like fucks up your whole vision
of traveling what's that like touring
and shit.
Like, it's just fucked up the whole thing
of traveling.
Like, I don't want to get on the plane.
Unless you're picking up an envelope.
Yeah, and even that, just like,
I don't know.
I can't really enjoy myself.
I don't know.
Like, I feel weird because I've been to everywhere,
so just me going somewhere
without making money.
It feels kind of weird to be there.
Like, it's not fun,
almost like.
It's fucking.
It's brutal.
It's like, what the fuck?
Why am I here?
Like, I'd rather be at home
on my couch type of shit.
You know, our dear friend,
Lou Gomez is doing,
if you're in the New York City,
New Jersey area,
They're doing Skank Fest.
Ari Shafia is doing it.
Ariely Lang's doing it.
I mean, tickets might be sold out.
Yeah, for sure.
I don't know about the R.E. Show if it's sold out.
I love those guys to death.
But it's part of a festival.
And you understand how a festival goes.
For comics, whatever you make a weekend, they don't give a fuck.
They pay you a flat.
They give you a hotel.
They feed you one of the dinners, and they give you a little per diem.
And that's it.
I did a festival a couple of years ago.
They paid great one night.
It was tremendous.
I did it.
I'll do that.
But these guys wanted you to be involved in a couple of shows,
and there really wasn't a lot of money.
In my world, if I got on a plane for six hours,
12 hours away from my family for a weekend,
it's got to be a certain number.
I just can't do it because I'm scorn away from my daughter's soccer game.
Yeah, fact.
Okay?
You're not paying me for the comedy show.
You're paying me for fucking driving out of LAX.
Yeah.
Okay.
You pay me to drive into LA.
You know,
it's not going to be the next couple weeks
I'm going to be friendly for anybody flying, bro.
Oh, right now.
Everybody started doing shit at airports
every fucking day.
It seems like the last
four weeks,
every day there's a terror attack somewhere.
Oh, London.
I just left from there and it was...
High security?
No, I was there.
I left the same day
that building caught on fire, that
Grimfeld Tower. I was
there that, I left that morning that happened.
It took, like, a normal ride to the airport
is like an hour. It took two
hours to get to the airport. I almost missed my flight.
But I made it,
so thank God. I was already
prepared to miss it, though, because I thought I was going to miss it.
But I love
London, I love being out there,
but, like, it is kind of creepy, now.
Like, I used to feel that way about
Paris way before that pair of shit happened.
Like, some reason, Paris just creeped me out.
Every time I'm near, I'm like, I don't trust this place.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, it just makes me just stay in my hotel room.
Like, I'm cool and I'm hanging out.
I hung out a few times because it seemed cool.
But, you know, one thing I learned about traveling, though,
every place could be cool if you know the right people.
Absolutely.
You know?
I've been to hell holes.
Yes what I'm saying.
I think they're dynamite.
I don't even want to tell people.
The places that make me happy would make people disgusting with me.
Like the places that really make me happy anymore.
Where I go, and it's an enjoyable three days.
Yeah.
You know, it would shock you.
I have a good time when I go to Jersey.
Those three days are enjoyable.
I go to the cemetery.
I eat good pizza.
Yeah, but that's home.
That's different.
You know, when I go to,
there's a couple places that it's just three fucking enjoyable.
For me, it's like, always over.
And the envelope comes second at that point.
Yeah, at that point.
You want to go there.
If I go to the show and the audiences are great,
and they're yelling and we're having a great time,
and I take pictures afterwards.
Sometimes the envelope is the fucking cherry on the Sunday.
I think I'm like there with Australia.
That's how I am with,
that's what I've discovered over the years.
For me to have a good time,
I got to get stoned, go on stage,
and have a good time with them.
And then the money they give me on Saturday,
and then I go, wow.
That's the extra.
That's the extra.
That's great. I just have a great time with this audience because I got a little high.
I mean, who does this? I got a little stoned. I go up there.
That's out of here. Australia. That's it.
I don't know.
Listen, man, the more and more I'm around you, the more and more you impress me here.
No, I'm telling you, like, wait, you changed me, man. I swear.
The church has been like my inspiration.
But it's the next album, I mean, just, you know, just hearing all your stories and know where you came from.
And especially like you say
Like the whole writing aspect
And just taking like
You say like I feel like
I connect with you in that sense
Where you were talking about
Like you just bullshit
It's your way through comedy
For a long time
And once you start taking it serious
Like I feel like
Because we're just that good at that shit
I feel like like like I've been bullshitting
My way through rap all this time
But I'm just that good at this shit
So I could get over everybody else
But now I was like
I get it now
I'm taking the shit super serious now
And I don't know
It's trouble
But it's gonna be trouble
this next one, you feel me?
Okay, me, we always put my all into it,
but I just have a different outlook on the way to work.
You know, this my, you know, you do the same shit,
you get the same result, so try something different type of shit.
Always, you always got to be evolving.
This way me working on music, like, it's an everyday thing
and it's never been like that, so I don't know what's going to come out of it, you know?
This last month, bro, I take the baby,
I drop her off, I go home,
there's a bag already packed like it on.
I usually have to run home and pee.
On the way out, my wife talks to me.
I talk to her, what's your day look like.
I've been hugging it and taking that bag, and I go to a coffee shop.
Sometimes I have breakfast.
Sometimes I just have green tea.
And I force myself to sit there every day for an hour and a half.
And just try to scribble up something.
And scribble up.
Scribble up.
No, it works.
You know what works.
And you don't want, between you and I, 90% of it is garbage.
Mm-hmm.
But I always take something out.
I always learn a twist.
you know and you know
that's all I can do is a comic
is late every day try to get better
try to get on stage
you know
I tried to get on stage tonight but now
it's too fucking late for Uncle Jop
I wouldn't go over to Hollywood
I'd just stay up here but it's too late
I want to hang out and talk with you guys and stuff
but listen man you never seem to
I fall in love of you more and more
every time I see your family
come on anybody you want
bags you know that
looking poor Lee he's like
ready to jump off the fucking building.
He's done right now.
He's like, I got to find the microwave
to eat that pizza.
He's done for sure.
Catley, he's saying, I'm going to eat that pizza.
You'll eat that fucking pizza,
cock's second.
Anyway, thank you, my brother.
Don't forget, you, ma'am.
Next week and this weekend, right?
The fucking, uh...
I'll be in Cleo, Michigan, Sunday.
Cleo, Michigan Sunday,
High Times.

Make sure you go up to him and say hello.
