Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to Comedy Central. Hey everybody, John Stewart here. I am here to tell you about my new podcast. The Weekly Show is going to be coming out every Thursday. So exciting. You'll be saying to yourself, TGID. Thank God it's Thursday we're going to be talking about. All the things that hopefully obsess you in the same way that they obsess me. The election. Economics. Earnings calls. What are they talking about on these earnings calls? We're going to be talking about
Starting point is 00:00:34 ingredient to bread ratio on sandwiches. And I know that I listed that fourth, but in importance, it's probably second. I know you have a lot of options as far as podcasts go, but how many of them come out on Thursday? I mean, talk about innovative. Listen to the weekly show with John Stewart, wherever you get your podcast. So for those who don't know, there's a story of an American woman who was on a safari in Uganda and she was kidnapped.
Starting point is 00:01:11 Right? Her and her guide were kidnapped. And then there was a ransom for $500,000, I believe. And I understand your question, what you're saying is why does it seem like the news here is only talking about the gu who has kidnapped and not so much about the guide? And I'll be honest with you, that's just storytelling. You tell a story from the point that people will most connect with the story. So if you say to an American audience, a Ugandan man was kidnapped and he's still in Uganda,
Starting point is 00:01:38 you're like, and the story is? And the story is? No, I can the story I I I I I I can the story I can the story I can the story, I can the story, I can the story, I the story, I the story, I the story, I can't, and the story, and the story, and the story, and the story, and the story, and the story, and the story, and the story, and the story, and the story, and the story, and the story, and the story, th. the story, the story, the story, the story, the story, the story, the story, the story, the story, the story, the story, the story, the story, the story, the story, the story, and the story, and the story is, and the story is, and the story is, and the story is, and the story.... And, the story. And, the story. And, the story. the story. the story, the story, the story, the story, the story, the story, th.....e.....e........... So, the story, the story, the story, the story, the story,, it's hard to get people to care about, but when you go an American woman was kidnapped, people are like, oh, I'm American. That could be me. Because that's, I don't know if you've noticed, that's something that people love doing. Whenever there's a tragedy, people always like to make it seem like that could have be, oh! People were like, like, literally, there was like a plane, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, th. That, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, an, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. the. the. the. the, the, the, the, the, the, the, it seem like that could have been, people were like, like, literally there was like a, like when, like when there was a plane, one of the planes that crashed, and then someone was like, oh, I was thinking of flying to Ethiopia.
Starting point is 00:02:12 I'm like, yeah, but that doesn't mean you were any closer to, remember we were planning that trip to Ethiopia? That could have been me It's like no, that's not how it works It could so I genuinely think that's why they tell the story that way because it's it's it's hard to make people Cape because look the honest truth is human beings have a finite amount of how many things we can care about otherwise you just become desensitized and There's someone being kidnapped somewhere. the world, thrown. thrown. thi, thir, thoooooooo. their, their, their, their, their, their their their their their their their their someone. their someone. their someone. their someone. their someone. tho. tho. tho. tho. thi's thi. thi's thi. thi. the, th the, th thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi, it's, it's thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. they's is is they's is they's. they's. they's. they's they's the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. thei. thei. thei. thei's the. a story when it's an American woman kidnapped in Uganda. It's like, whoa, what is this thing? But I heard she was released now, they paid the ransom. That was one funny part, is like, with the Ugandan authorities, they were like, good news,
Starting point is 00:02:56 we have rescued her. And then it's like, oh, how did you guys do it? We paid the ransom to the kidnappers. And I was like, that's not a rescue. That you should say I paid the ransom and they returned her. Like no no no no we have rescued her, huh? You see back then we have rescued her. So yeah so I'm glad that she's back and she's safe but I think that's what it is. When I coming to Uganda, you want me to get kidnapped as well? That could have been me! That could have been me!
