Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to Comedy Central. Hey, everybody, John Stewart here. I am here to tell you about my new podcast, the weekly show coming out every Thursday. We're going to be talking about the election, earnings calls. What are they talking about on these earnings calls? We're going to be talking about ingredient-to-bread ratio on sandwiches. I know you have a lot of options as far as podcasts go, but
Starting point is 00:00:26 how many of them come out on Thursday? Listen to the weekly show with John Stewart wherever you get your podcast. Yeah, I don't know what the details of the Jesse Smollett story are going to end up being. What I do know is right now the story just doesn't make sense in the pieces that it's laid out as, right? Like I'm not saying that his story story story story story story story story story story story story story story story story story story story story story story story doesn't thooooooo doesn't tho-s tho-s tho-s tho tho tho them doesn't them them them them them them them them them them them th them th them theme theme theme theme theme them them them them them them them them them them them them them them them them them them th them th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the the the their their their their their their their their the the the the the the the the. to come come come come come out to to to to the. theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. the. the. doesn't make sense in the pieces that it's laid out as right Like I'm not saying that he is lying. I'm just saying that his story doesn't seem to line up with what's happening Because these guys admitted to punching him So that part of the story is now? that part of it or not? So that part of to be like, well then why did they do this to you just randomly? Like, wow, two Nigerian guys walking around in Chicago's freezing weather and then shouting,
Starting point is 00:01:12 this is mega country. It's a weird thing to shout as a Nigerian person. This is like a strange, so yeah, no, like it's, I don't know where it's going to go, I's gonna go I do know if I was Trump this is a home run in my world because so many people jumped on board before they even like waited to see what it was about they like it's just like I don't know we live in a world where people are too enthusiastic at jumping at stories that confirm their biases and instead of just pausing and going, what do I make of the story? What do I make of this story of my own volition?
Starting point is 00:01:50 Forget your political anythings. You know, this is like what he, does it confirm your biases? That's when I always think you have to be even more vigilant, is when it confirms everything, you've believed. And this goes for both sides of people, like because Trump supporters in the deepest conspiracies ever It's not like anyone's immune to this But I think increasingly since Trump has come into power People have become increasingly willing to accept any story that confirms anything that?
Starting point is 00:02:12 the trowns to confirm the try to to try and to try and to try and to try and try and to try, to the, it the, it to to thoe, to thoe, thoe, thoe, tho... It. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. to be. thr. thr. thrown. to be to to to to to to to be. this. this. this. this. this. thoe. thoe. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. And tho. And tho. And tho. And the the the the to be. And to be. And to be. And to be. And to be. And to. And to. And to. And to. And to to to toe. And toe. And toe. And toe. And toe. And toe. And toe. And toe. And toe. And toe. And toe. And toe. toe. toe. the to not become the thing that you hate, because then what are you fighting for if you've become the thing that you're trying to fight against. So just take a moment, just be like, yo man, how do I feel about the story? What is this? And then you go from there. And I will say, if Jussie's lying. Like, if I was the empire people, I'd be like, we'd set the whole thing up as a commentary on society. That's what I would do. I don't know, because
Starting point is 00:02:55 right now it really, it's either Jussie gets these guys arrested and sent to jail or he comes out and says, no, I worked with them. That's the only, you realize those are the only options. These guys go to jail for hate crime by the way, not just assault for a hate crime or, you know, and now he's like, oh the cops, how do we trust these Chicago cops? They've lied about so many, yes, yes, don't get me wrong. The Chicago PD has liedto further their own goals. This had nothing to do with them. Wasn't a story about police, wasn't the story?
Starting point is 00:03:26 Yeah, they lied about Lequan McDonald, they lied about shootings, they lied about drugs on people. But this is a completely separate thing where they had nothing to gain or lose by him being proved right or wrong. Like, either way in the story, they were see why the cups are suspected in it. But we'll see how it unfolds. It'll be interesting.
