Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to Comedy Central. John Stewart here. Unbelievably exciting news. My new podcast, The Weekly Show. We're going to be talking about the election, economics, ingredient to bread ratio on sandwiches. Listen to the weekly show with John Stewart, wherever you get your podcast. Just before we taped, we then find out, um,
Starting point is 00:00:23 and if you saw the story about Paul Manifort, right, Trump's campaign chairman in 2016, it now turns out that he lied about his dealings with Russians. Apparently, they specifically asked him, did you have any dealings with the Russians when it came to the election, and he said no, right? And something to that effect, and then it came out that he lied about it. He had dealings with the Russians. And what he did was he gave Russian intelligence the polling data that Trump's people had. And people assumed this is so that Trump and these people could target specific voters to try and get them to not vote or just to sway people,
Starting point is 00:01:01 whatever it is, but he gave them that information. Now what's funny is how we discovered this. What happened was Paul Maniford and his lawyer had a document that they sent to court and they tried to redact the information on document, but it was a PDF file. And so they put like, you know, when you redact when you put the black lines? But then they didn't like put it on the PDF file. So it's like it's two separate files. There's the PDF file and there's another file of just their thing. So then reporters were just, they just clicked on the black part and they were like, delete and then they just saw the stuff.
Starting point is 00:01:32 And you're just like, and I mean now, two things, in his defense, I don't know if you guys have ever tried to edit a PDF. That shit is hard. Like, that is so hard. I don't even know. I don't know who makes PDFs. I don't know who edits PDFs. I don't know anything. I don't know where PDFs are made. I have no clue. It's like, it's magic.
Starting point is 00:01:55 It's complete magic. edits or redact a PDF. Like, you were colluding with Russia. Surely you could figure out a collude with Kinko's. Come on, man. Make some shit happen. Just go in there and be like, yeah, can you guys help me get rid of this? What is this about? Don't worry. Just do the thing, just do the thing there.
Starting point is 00:02:15 But it's so funny how like, It's like the greatest criminals who pulled off the greatest crime in a way are also the dumbest criminals of all time. So you don't know, you're like, are you guys evil geniuses or did you just get lucky one time? Because you realize how everyone gets caught? It's just like the dumbest thing ever. Every single thing, every time they get caught. They'd be like, how do they get caught? Like with Don Jr. There was, the email, the email, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th, th, th, th. th. th is, th is, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, are like, are like, are like, are like, are like, are like, are like, are like, are like, are like, are like, are like, are like, are like, are like, are like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. So, th. So, are th. So, are th. So, are th. So, are th. So, are they they they thi. So, are they they they they're like, are like, are thi. So, are they thoooooooooooooo. So, are like, are like, are like, are like, are you want to meet the Russians? He's like, I love it. If it's what I think it is, I love it. And then there was another email in the Trump camp
Starting point is 00:02:49 where they were like, as long as this email chain is never found by anyone, we'll be fine.
