Starting point is 00:00:27 Please welcome Devine Join Randolph. Thank you. Divine, thank you so much for being here. It's wonderful to see you. Is it great to see you? It's so good to see you. Yes, we went to see you. So good to see you.
Starting point is 00:00:46 Yes, we went to the same high school. Same high school. Yeah, yeah. But we were from, I mean, central Pennsylvania and you did this movie, you have to do a Boston accent in this movie. Yeah. Was that hard to, I mean, I'm someone who's terrible at accents. Really?
Starting point is 00:01:06 I mean, awful. I don't know if you heard the Trump one. You just got the award. Yeah. But was it hard to get into the Boston accent? Was it hard to get out of the Boston accent? It helped because we were filming in Bostonthe accent that I'm doing is like a 70s Boston, African American dialect. So I'm not sounding like Mark Walburg, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:01:31 So everybody's walking around like Walburgs and they're like, oh what? And I'm like, it's different. So sometimes it would throw me a little bit. And so I just would have like certain key words that would help me get it back into it. Yeah, do you, can you share any of your keys? No, I used to before they said action, I would be like, oh, Mr. Hanum, Hanum, Hanum, Hanum, and just say his name and that were like,
Starting point is 00:01:55 kind of settle me back into it. Is there anything you specifically watched or listen to get into that like particular dialect? Donna Summer is from Boston and so I would watch a lot of her interviews and stuff like that because it was more to the time period and yeah a lot of YouTube clips and stuff like that and that kind of helped me constantly have that in my head. And that's great you got to listen to Donna Summers and someone like... I mean it could be worse. Yeah right you could be listening to like Mark Walbert. And you've done, I mean you've done so many incredible things, you've got to work with so many incredible people.
Starting point is 00:02:32 You know, Eddie Murphy, Paul Giamottie, Steve Martin. Are there any other people that you're like really wanting to work with? Um, I really want to work with Bradley Cooper. I saw the the to to to to to to to to to work to work to really really really really really really really to to work. I really really really to to to to work. I really really really really to work. I really really really really to work. I really really to work to work to work to work to work to work to work to work to work to work to work to work to work to work to work to work to work to work to work to work to work to work to work. I to work. I to work. I to work to work to work. I to work. I to work to work. I to work. I to work. I to work to work to work to work to work to work to work to work the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. I th. I th. I th. I thr. I th. I th. I th. I mean th. I the. I mean th. I the. I the. I the. I th. I th. I th. I th. I saw the trailer the other night of Maestro and it looks amazing. Yeah. The way that he just died. I like people that just want to die fully in. He resembles him in an interesting way and I think that's both with the magic of you know movies but also his commitment to the role that it's just I was like oh he's really he's dedicated so that was exciting for me that I was like, oh, he's really, he's dedicated. So that was exciting for me, that I was like, I would love to work with him. Yeah, that's like, I imagine you want to work with like other people at top of their game. And I saw, I saw Bradley Cooper in New York recently,
Starting point is 00:03:13 and I like, it took me everything? Anything that like, I mean, you've done a mix of serious comedy? Yeah. I think I want to start getting into biopix. I think that would be really fun. And that I started off of singing, so I think that could be a really nice way to merge the two. But yeah, I think biopix and start playing some real women. That'd be women. Yeah. And your character, Mary, in this, she's a cook. Are you good at cooking?
Starting point is 00:03:49 I am good at cooking. I am good at cooking. I love cooking. And that was kind of like, not a deal breaker, but that was something that I said to the director, Alexander Payne. I was like, if I do this, I really need real food. And so he was really cool about it. He was like, okay, what is the Christmas menu? And I was like, really?
Starting point is 00:04:15 Yeah. Yeah. And so I cook in real life and real time, I cook soup, oatmeal, oatmeal, a roasted chicken, and egg, like a breakfast, because I'm hungover. That sounds great. I want to be in this movie to eat that. You're going to get me food. I don't, I would like to think I can cook, but I just don't. I don't do it because I don't like to clean up and... No, I gotta get somebody clean up for you. I know. I need to make people to clean up for me me me me me me me me.. their their their to to to to to to their to to their to to to their to to to to their to to their their to cook to cook to cook to cook their their their to cook their their their their to cook their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, I don't like to clean up. And I'm gonna get somebody clean up for you. I need to make people to clean up for me. Absolutely. So that's the thing you invite people.
Starting point is 00:04:49 I'm like, oh my god, I want to cook for you, clean up. That's a great, yeah. I gotta meet better friends. Yes. And you, okay. OK, so you had to pick up smoking. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. to. to. to. to. to. to. the. to. the. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to make. to make. I. I. I. I. I. I to make. I. I. I to make. I to make. I to make. I to make. I to make. I to make. I to make. I to make. I to make. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. to make. to make. to make. to make. to make. to make. to make. to to make. to to to to to to to to to to make to to to make to make to make to make to make to make people. to make people it? I love how you said it. You had to pick up smoking. You had to get yourself an addiction. You had the joy of an addiction for this role. Yeah. Did you did you get addicted? Did you have to quit? No, no, I was really nervous about it. I was like, ooh, I feel like I might have that addiction gene. What's going to go happen? And so I, they gave me, before before they before they before they they they they they they they they gave me before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, before, the the their, their, their, their, their, their, I, I, I was, I was, I was, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, I their, I their, I their, I their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, they. they. they. their, to, to, their, their, their, their, their, their, we started shooting, the director sent over two big boxes of like natural fake ones. And it just wasn't working for me.
Starting point is 00:05:33 And like because the, it was fake and it looked fake while doing it. And so I started using American spirits because they have like, you know, there's different, like, I call it gradients of addiction right that nicotine gets like stronger and stronger so I had like the blue pack which I think is like the lighter of them and then like of how I wanted to hold it because she's an avid smoker and so they were just I get it they were like the cigarettes gonna tell on you like if you don't know what you're doing they're like she's they're the the the the the the the the the the the I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I they. they. they. the. the. I's. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I's. I. I the. I the. I'm like. I'm like. I'm like. I'm like. I'm like. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. the. And. the. And. the. the. the. the. the. the. And. And. And. And. And. And. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. the cigarette's gonna tell on you. Like if you don't know what you're doing, they can tell by how you're holding. They're like, she's lying. She never smokes a day in her life. So, Puff Puff I was going. I mean, good for you.
Starting point is 00:06:11 Thank you. That is commitment. Thank you. I jumped in there. And I jumped in there. It's an absolute pleasure to have you on this show. It's so good to see you. I'm so happy to see all your success. I hope it keeps going. And give this lady real lady to success. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:06:30 Hey everybody, John Stewart here. I am here to tell you about my new podcast, the weekly show. It's going to be coming out every Thursday. So exciting. You'll be saying to yourself, TGID. Thank God it's Thursday. We're going to be talking about all the things that hopefully obsess you in the same way that they obsess me. The election. Economics.
Starting point is 00:06:56 earnings calls. What are they talking about on these earnings calls? We're going to be talking about ingredient to bread ratio on sandwiches and I know that I listed that fourth but in importance it's probably second. I know you have a lot of options as far as podcasts go but how many of them come out on Thursday. I mean talk about innovative. Listen to the weekly show with John Stewart, wherever you get your podcast. My guest tonight is an actor and comedian who is currently on tour. He also co-authored a new book about the making of the Eric Andre's show called Dumb Ideas. Please welcome, Eric Andre! They're hopped up.
Starting point is 00:07:55 Eric, big fan. I'm a big fan. I'm a big fan. I feel like I never... I'm a big fan of you. Oh, well, thank you. And your whole lifestyle, your whole Spanish lifestyle. I have a very international lifestyle. It's incredible. Yeah, and you would like to be an international body as well. I want, you got to get me over there. We both would love to leave America. Yeah. We both would love to leave America. Yeah. It's very scary here. Every day is Halloween. Yeah. You know,
Starting point is 00:08:30 but what I mean, what do you have to be worried about in America as someone that is so devilishly handsome? Yeah, there we go. Because I'm just a study abroad, you know? Like I'm just going, I'm just going for the Saviche. Well, I want the Saviche too. You know, there's a lot of guns here. It's like the Wild West. There's a lot of guns. I want kids.
Starting point is 00:08:58 Yeah. Not guns. Yeah. Yeah. It feels weird to do a we at the end is this the end of we at the is this act three of America I mean I kind of like to think so she like to think so it brings me great stress because because then it means something new will come you know uh huh out-huh. You know out of the apochilibs? Out of the ashes will rise China. And there's no problems over there. No problems over
Starting point is 00:09:32 there. And yeah, I agree. I am. You know, I was in an airport the other day and I, I was through security and I was like, huh, we're safe. Because there's no guns through security. Oh in Spain. No, no, in America. Here. Here. Here, they're sneaking guns all the time. Now, where am I supposed to feel safe?
Starting point is 00:09:55 No, don't where? The TSA, they're not the sharpest group. And they're no disrespect to all the TSA agents out there. Hard-working underpaid TSA. But like, you know, stuff sneaks in. Yeah, have you snuck anything? I sneak, yeah, every time I'm at the airport, sticking in a ton of weapons. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:18 An arm to a team. I can't say I'm going to the airport right now. You have me in a no flight list. I, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, the stick, the stick, the stick, the stick, the stick, the stick, the stick, the stick, the stick, the stick, the stick, the stick, the stick, the stick, the stick, the stick, the stick, the the the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the, the the the the the the the the the the, the the, the, the, the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. ta, ta, ta, ta, ta, ta, ta, ta, ta, ta, toge-s, toge-s, toge-s, toge-s, toge-s, toge-s, togthe airport right now. You got me on a no-flight list. I often bring in that, you know, the stick that has the ball with the spikes on the end. Oh, like a cat in nine tails? Yeah, yeah, yeah, like a medieval. That's kinky. That's kind of good.
Starting point is 00:10:36 I just like to see if I can get thrown. Yeah challenge challenge challenge challenge challenge challenge challenge challenge challenge challenge challenge. I the theto challenge the TSA. Make them work for it. What's the worst that can happen? What's the worst that could happen? What's the worst? Just try it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:52 Well, so that's, you do pranks. I do pranks. I do pranks. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Did you feel like writing this book was a prank on yourself. Yeah, yeah. I'm not a book writer. I'm not a book reader. Last book I read was Where's Waldo?
Starting point is 00:11:09 So I, uh... Did you find him? And I never found him. And that's why I stopped. I never know. It's a lot of work. It's a tremendous about of work. Yeah, it's not.
Starting point is 00:11:21 This is like, this is just work, but this is you just go, blah, blah, blah, blah. This is like, oh. And it's done. We have a deadline. We had to have this written and out here and this. I feel like this is something that agents, agents love to push. You got to write a book. Why do what? Come on, man, you got to write a book. No. No. You know how much we made so far? 70 pesos.
Starting point is 00:11:45 70 pesos. Yeah. That's not going to get you very far in Spain. Not going to get you farther than it wouldn't America. Yes. Yes. So you ask me anything. I'm an open book.
Starting point is 00:12:02 I'm an open book. I'm spread eagle under the table right now. That's uncomfortable I am. You like to transform yourself for your roles. Let's talk about... I got head-to-to-toe Filipino surgery, plastic surgery. Yeah, I completely changed my race and Nationale. Did you show a picture of which Filipino you'd like to look like?
Starting point is 00:12:23 Yeah, I was going to look like. Yeah, I showed Manny Pacquian. Yeah, I was gonna say it. I was trying to remember the Filipino boxer. I was like, I'm gonna name the wrong person. No, that was good. And it's gonna be very racist. Um, yes, I've gained, I got, I got Gantt one season. I tried to look like McConahe and Dallas Buyers Club and that was that was bad. th. th. th. that. th. th. th. th. th. That th. That th. That th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. I thi. I was, I was to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to be to be to be to be they. I I I I I I I I I th. I th. I th. I was, I was, I was the thi. I was thi. I was thi. I was thi. I was thi. I was the the the try. I was. I was. I was. I was try. I was told. I was told. I was to to to to to to season. I tried to look like McConaughey and Dallas Buyer's Club, and that was bad. And then I got as big and plump as I could, I wanted to look like Red Fox drowned or something. And then I, and then I got shredded. I got ripped like Dwayne the Rock Johnson for one season. And then it all went to shit. Then I went to Portugal right after I got ripped ripped, which, which, which, which, which, which, and, and, and, and, toed, toed, and, toed, and, to, to, to, and, and, to, and, to, and, and, to, to, and, to, and, to, to, and I, to, toe, and I, th.. And, and, th. And, to, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, I, and, I, I, I, I, I, I was, and, I was, and, I was, I was, and, the. And, the the the the the the the the the the the the the they. And, the, too. And, too. And, too. And, I was, I was, too. And, too. And, too. And, too. And, too. And, too. And, went to Portugal right after I got ripped, which took me like half a year, and I just drank my weight in wine
Starting point is 00:13:07 and it all, all went back. Now I look like a beautiful female orangutan with like bellowing breasts, like D-cup, pendulous. Wow. You really paint a picture. Yeah. I can see why you're an otor. You're away with pros. Did you enjoy or? Getting fat is the best. I was going to say that has to be the best. It's the best.
Starting point is 00:13:35 You do get depressed after a while. But I was eating melted ice cream, peanut butter and jellies and pizza every night? It's awesome. Then you keep looking in the mirror and it's fun at first. You're like, wow, it's crazy. I look narly. And then you get really, you get really depressed. I also got rid of all my body hair that season. Oh, so you really see it all. Yeah. Yeah. I waxed my pubic hair. I shaved my head. Because the other previous season, I didn't brush my hair all year and I didn't wear deoderant their it it it hair. I. I. I. I. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm their. I'm. I'm. I'm their. I'm their. I'm their. their. I'm. I'm. I'm. toeexicexiceckeckeateateateateatheeate. I'm really. I'm toe. I'd. I'd. I'd. I'd. I'd th. I'd th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I the the the the the the the the the the. I toe. I toe. I toe. I the. I theared. I toeeeeeeeateeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeearedeeared. I the. I the. hair all year, and I didn't wear deodorant the whole time, and I grew up my fingernails, like Freddy Kruger. So I was trying to do like the opposite of what I did the previous season. How long did your fingernails get?
Starting point is 00:14:16 They got pretty bad, and my girlfriend at the time was not happy. But what about all the back scratches you could give her? Uh, yeah, there's not a lot of back scratches. It was hard. Intimacy was difficult with nails about it. Yeah. I just have trouble opening like cans of soda with nails. Yeah. So I imagine intimacy is also. Intimacy. It's a challenge. It's not easy. And I stunk that year. I didn't wear, I didn't wash the, my outfit, my
Starting point is 00:14:46 my wardrobe. I would like run circles in it and sweat into it. I didn't wash it for a whole year and I didn't wear deodor for the whole year. I was tough to date. That sounds... Yeah, I was I was narly. I was Oscar the Grouch. That sounds a lot. It's kind of unnecessary too. You can't smell me through the television. It was just to freak out the guest. That's a really good point. They can't smell you through the television. Not yet. No, not yet.
Starting point is 00:15:16 No, I mean, hopefully. Soon, very soon. I, did the guests, like, gag when they smelled you? Yeah, they would, they would, I remember, I interviewed Amber Rose and she came out and hugged me and she goes, you need to wash yourself. It was repulsive. It was bad. Yeah, yeah, and she's worked at strip clubs. Yeah. She smelled many a body odor.
Starting point is 00:15:44 And that, that tickled her tickled their nostrils. This is, have we started filming or is this like a, is this a rehearsal and then I come back tomorrow? I think too. and I just you know as we keep going I remember how much I'm terrible at interviews no what are you talking about you're great you're very confident oh this that's that's why why are you so confident why am I so confident oh well you, my big dick. Oh, yeah. Keep rolling over it with the legs of this chair, you know?
Starting point is 00:16:34 Oh, gee. Oh, and it's that long you lose feeling, right? Am I right? Am I right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I've got, I've, I feel like, this is why I don't have a podcast. Because I feel like you have to have guests on a podcast and people would be like, what do you want to talk about? And I'd have to be like, you're going to have to bring it.
Starting point is 00:17:01 I don't know. That'd be funny. Yeah, what do you want to talk about? You came to my house, you're on my podcast. Why don't you just bring your phone here and then record a voice memo and then repurposes this conversation, that's your podcast. Perfect. I don't think Viacom would be stoked on it, but... Yeah, but they don't have money to get lawyers anymore. What are we talking about? You know, what do we got left? You know?
Starting point is 00:17:27 I'm sure they'll keep that. Yeah. I was gonna say this. They'll keep that. I wanted you to just start crying at the end of that's the jail-up. I should have like splashed water or something where they couldn't go back from it, you know? Like, we're here now. So what's going on in Spain? In Spain, okay. Do you drink wine? No, I don't really. You stopped because it was a problem. Um, you know.
Starting point is 00:17:54 You got to a point where it was dark. I, this is the fun thing about when you don't really drink anymore is that a lot of people, it shows how many people thought you had a problem. But you never did. I mean, I don't know, maybe I drank too much, but a lot of people were like you finally quit. It's wrong. And I was like, I was like, I didn't, I mean, sure. But you're still doing drugs.
Starting point is 00:18:24 I'm doing drugs. You're doing I'm doing cocaine and all that stuff. I do the hardest. I only needle drugs. You know. Wow. And not just heroin. Steroids, Ozymec. Oh yeah. Whatever you got. If it's in a needle, boom. I've been doing so many steroids. My dick is huge. My boss. Teenie dining. These guys are marbles. Oh yeah. I do Pfizer and Modena. Oh. Oh. Oh. the the thi. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I do. I do. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. I do. I do. I. I. I. I. I dick is huge, my boss, teeny tiny. Teeny tiny. These guys are marbles. I do Pfizer and Moderna recreationally. Oh yeah, yeah. I just, I didn't want it to stop. I just wanted it to keep going. Going to be on the cusp of COVID all the time. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:01 Covid edging. That's what they call it. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. And kids, you can do that too. Where's my camera? Just my fingers in there. Okay. You can edge? Are you encouraging kids to edge? Is that what was that what?
Starting point is 00:19:15 I want my name taken off the show. And my face blurred. And that's coming from a guy who's a book called Dumb Ideas. And the ideas is available now in tickets for the Eric Andres Show Live or available at Eric Andre Tour. We're going to take a quick break. We're going to show on Hulu, December 1st. Yeah. Thank you.
