Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to Comedy Central. From New York City, the only city in America. It's the show that invented news. This is the Daily Show with your host, Leslie Jones. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Welcome to the Daly's show. I'm Leslie Jones and this is my last night making this desk my bitch. So let's get let's get to these headlines.
Starting point is 00:01:05 Yeah. Okay, you guys, who in here is excited about Rihanna at the Super Bowl? I am so proud. Yes. Everybody, everybody's excited. Everybody's excited. Everybody's excited. Everybody's excited. Well, almost everybody. Sportscaster, Stephen Smith learns the hard way you better watch what you say about Rianna.
Starting point is 00:01:35 Yeah, members of the Rianna Navy, as they've known, have been gunning for him all day long, following his appearance on the Sherry Shepard show. Take a listen. Are you excited for this halftime show? I don't want to say I'm not excited. She's fantastic. I said there's one thing she's not. Uh huh. She a Beyonce. I know she's not Beyonce but you can wait a minute hold up. Hold up. Dude, no. Why would you do this to yourself? You know what, Stephen A. Smith? You need to act like your hairline and back the fuck part.
Starting point is 00:02:11 Now, the good news is that he did apologize. The bad news is his apology. Oriana to know know you're a superstar. You're sensational and you are a worthy person to be doing the Super Bowl halftime show. I apologize for creating whatever bruhaha comes up this. I gotta be more careful where people twisted and turn it into something it ain't. My bad on that. Now I gotta go.
Starting point is 00:02:50 Good luck, sweetie, looking forward to seeing you perform. Oh, how dare you call Rianna sweetie! You calling her sweetie like you know her. She don't know you, but you know who she does know? Beyonce! And neither one of these ladies needs your opinion, sweetie. Why are you trying to save your life in the back of that dark ass bus. All right, let's move on. Now, everybody this year is the Daily Show.
Starting point is 00:03:33 So I know that there's some people out there thinking, is she ever going to talk about policy, or is she going to spend all week saying, Pussy, pussy, pussy. Well, don't worry. I take my job seriously. You want me to talk about the debt ceiling? I will talk about the debt ceiling. So, the debt ceiling is kind of like America's pussy. Four pussie. Four pussies in a row, I love it. You know what? I'll let the news explain it.
Starting point is 00:04:15 Breaking news from Washington, D.C. the U.S. has hit the national debt limit. Once the U.S. hits the upper limit of what it can legally borrow to run the government, the treasury department now starts juggling with so-called extraordinary measures. Deferring investments into important retirement funds, for example, for public servants. Various accounting moves can buy some time and keep the bills paid until maybe June. Damn! America is broke as hell! America is so broke the government might have happened. America is so broke the government might have to resort to extraordinary measures, like taxing the rich or not going to war all the time.
Starting point is 00:04:56 You know, crazy shit like that. But there's my question. Where the fuck is the money going? We don't have anything to show for it. We got homeless crisis, we got medical bills, where is the money going? You know what? Exactly. Please, please tell me that Biden has spent it on developing a Black Panther suit. Now, I'm still a little lost with this debt ceiling crisis, but lucky for me, I know
Starting point is 00:05:33 someone who can help me explain it. Y'all give it up for Desilatic. That's it! Thank you. Thank you. All right. Leslie, I got you. the debt ceiling might seem complicated, but let's think about it like this. Say you've opened a chase sapphire card with a $10,000 limit, and you've maxed it out on, I don't know, Gucci handbags and laser facials. Then you get screwed because you have to
Starting point is 00:06:10 pay for your kids new glasses because his dumb teacher says he's having trouble reading in class. And when you can't get that teacher fired you have to get the bank to raise your credit limit or else your husband will find out and you promised him that you were done stealing credit card numbers and that is pretty much the situation America's in. Oh wait did that happen to you? Oh, the, these are just examples. Oh, I'm just saying America is in a bit of happen to you? Oh, these are just examples. Oh. I'm just saying America is in a bit of financial trouble
Starting point is 00:06:49 and you do not want to get in too deep. You know, it's kind of like how we all have gambling debt. Oh, I don't have a gambling debt. Oh, no, I don't either. Oh, okay. But let's just say, hypothetically, that I owed a lot of money to the Russian mob because I was convinced that this was the season the Knicks were going to turn it around. Oh, Dizzy, everybody knows the Knicks will never turn it around.
Starting point is 00:07:17 Well, yeah, that's obvious now. But the point is sometimes you need to find more money and fast, just like America does. And until then, America will have to find ways to pay the bills, like selling one of its kidneys or begging for Venmo donations. Look, look, it's okay. I don't want anyone to stress because if it doesn't work, America can always get out of debt by running to Mexico and changing its name. The one thing you want to think about is you don't want the name to be too similar. Like you can't go from Anastasia to Anamaria. You can only go from Anastasia to Desi. Is that what you did?
Starting point is 00:08:07 Oh my God! Oh my God, no! Of course not! No, Anastasia's dead. Yeah, she died in a horrific car fire and her remains were too charred to be identified. Desi, if you need money, you know, I can help you, right? Oh, Leslie, thank you. That really, that means a lot. But no, no, I would never beg you for money on a show that the IRS watches. And if I did do that, it certainly wouldn't be for this amount. Damn bitch you, would you all this much money? What you do by Twitter? No.
Starting point is 00:08:50 No, I'm not that wasteful. But maybe you can spot me just a little bit of it. So I don't get my pinkies broken again. Okay, look, look, look, Desi, I can pay a little bit of this, but you gotta promise me that you do not gamble it. Leslie? Ah.
Starting point is 00:09:10 Oh, I promise you, I will not gamble it away. Okay. Okay. Okay. I'm putting it on the giants this weekend. Because that's not a gamble. That is a luck. That is a lot. Oh, man, man, I hope you live.
Starting point is 00:09:28 Y'all give it up for Deadly Lodz. When we come back, when we come back, I'm gonna talk to the fellas, so don't go away. Girl, we gonna talk about it now. I'll hide right bitches all the time. I'm not gonna be that. I don't know. I can't be right bitches. Welcome back to the Daily Show. Listen, I watch the news for three reasons. Weather, Traffic, and Michael Strayhan's sexy-ass mouth.
Starting point is 00:10:17 Mmm, mm-mm. Mm-mm. Mm-mm. Mm-mm. You gotta blur that out. You can't show that sexy hole on TV. You know, I'm trying to run a TV show over here. Sexy? But every time I turn on the news, there's one thing I see more than anything. Men losing their shit. Another shocking incident on a plane, as two passengers duke it out right before takeoff. A man went on a bottle-breaking rampage.
Starting point is 00:11:00 Store workers say a customer got irate when they refuse to sell him liquor at a discount. It's a shocking road rage incident going viral. These two knuckleheads are fighting like medieval knights in battle. Why does every guy think if he gets a sword in his hand, he's going to automatically be Stephen Seagal? But when he actually gets it in his hand, he's like Jerry Lewis. I'm gonna hit you with a bad, lady! It's crazy though. This stuff is happening all the time. Every night on the news Lester Holt has to shout, World Star. And it's all because of men who can't control their anger. Men, why are you so mad?
Starting point is 00:11:50 You need to calm your ass the f-f- down. But since you can't do it yourselves. I decide I'm going to help you calm down in tonight's installment of Long Story Short. Now, we know that women are going through it too. Now, we know that women are going through it too. You guys are angry, you're depressed, and you're lonely.
Starting point is 00:12:27 In fact, 15% of men say they have zero, zero friends. And the other 85%, they don't have friends either, but they was too sad to fill out the survey. No friends. I mean, women got our problems, but we always have some home girls, you know what I'm saying? You got them, you know, but me and they have nobody. So what do they do? They take all of those emotions and they bottle that shit up and then they throw that bottle at the cashier. Now luckily there's a tool that can help you with all of this.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Therapy! Therapy! Therapy is amazing! You pay someone to unload all your bullshit on them. They're like prostitutes for the feelings. The problem is men don't use it. In fact, they're almost half as likely to go the therapy as women.
Starting point is 00:13:30 Men out here treating therapy like Nick Cannon treats condoms. They're here to help you, Nick. Why won't you use them? God damn it, Nick! God damn it! God damn it! The question is why won't you men go to therapy? And I think the same reason you won't eat a go to therapy? And I think the same reason you won't eat a popsicle in front of anybody
Starting point is 00:14:09 because you scared, they'll think you a little bitch. Therapy works for women, but it does not work for men. Sitting around, talking about your feelings isn't going to do shit for you. F**** how you feel, go to the gym, lift heavy weights, be a man. Therapy's not action. Therapy is sitting and crying and complaining. If you feel depressed, you go to the gym, you do something. You don't sit and cry about it. Ew!
Starting point is 00:14:35 Eww, Andrew Tate? Weren't you just arrested for selling bitches? If anybody needs therapy, it's this naked ass hot dog. So, fuck. And what's this be a man shit? What do you think being a man is? Because it's not what women think it is. Being a man means taking care of your mental health just
Starting point is 00:15:05 as much as you take care of your physical health. Okay? These dudes will use everything else for therapy except actual therapy. They're like running is my therapy. No, running is running. Terapy needs to be your therapy. No, running is running. Therapy needs to be your therapy. Everyone, I mean everyone I know who does a marathon is fucked up. If they were at peace, they wouldn't be running until they pissed themselves. You know I'm saying? They're at home watching Netflix like everybody else. But we know why I'm me in this way. Because starting from a young age, we teach them that they can't have feelings. We're taught at a really young age, don't cry, have no fear.
Starting point is 00:16:05 When you cry, does it make you feel like a failure? There's that sense of sitting there going, why am I crying? I shouldn't be crying about this. There was this one time, I was with my friend. He just looked at me, started crying. He just said, I think I just need a hugged them. And afterwards, we both looked at each other and we were like, we were like, we were like, we were like, we were like, we were like, we were like, we were like, we were like, and we were like, we were like, and we were like both looked at each other and we were like we're never gonna say anything to anyone. That's sad! Y'all see what y'all men are teaching these young boys? That you know what? You know what? I need two
Starting point is 00:16:35 men to hug right now. HAL! Get you, that's right! That's right! Y'all hug each it, damn it! Ooh, this desk makes me feel like I got power. But a hug? That's what men want to keep private. But y'all airdropped your dick picks to a stranger on the subway. Priority, fellas! But look, if men's issues only affected themselves, I stay the hell out their business.
Starting point is 00:17:16 But the problem here is that men not going to therapy is affecting women. Yeah. Okay? Depressed men are more likely to commit domestic violence, they're more likely to commit abuse, plus instead of going to the therapist, they're using dates like therapy. Yeah, yeah. Every woman in here knows what I'm talking about. Some dude you just met on tender telling you about how his dad loves his brother more. Well give me your brother's number then.
Starting point is 00:17:53 Maybe I like him better too. Because this is not making me horny! You definitely should talk to someone, but a professional, not me. And what's messed up is even if the date goes well, guess what? Men with depression are twice as going to be sad too. If you're depressed, your dicks is going to be sad too. If you're walking around miserable, your dick is also going to be like, swing, Lord. Sweet Chary on. Nobody knows the trouble I've seen.
Starting point is 00:18:54 If you like those songs, you can check out my playlist, Sad Dick. On Spotify. So long story short, men, go to therapy! Please! It's okay! All right, stay tuned because coming up in Shalameh. And we're going to see what he thinks about all of this. We'll be right back. Welcome back to the Daily Show. My guest today is a radio legend and author and leading voice and mental health discussion.
Starting point is 00:19:56 You know him from the Breakfast Club on the I Heart Radio. Please welcome Shalameen the God. What up Leslie? What's happening? What's happening? What's happening? What's happening? What's happening? Hey! What up Leslie? Man, we have never got to actually meet. We didn't like been in the same places when they crossed past? Have we ever met? We said hi to each other back there. He's just like back in Yeah. At S&L? Yeah. Yeah. At S&L? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. that. that. that. that. that. that, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we that, we that, we that, we're, we're, we're, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, we're the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the that's th. What's th. What's th. What's true. What's together, what together, what together, what together, what th th that that that they. What the the the the to actually meet. We didn't like been in the same places when they crossed past. Have we ever met? We said hi to each other back. He's just like back and you don't do that. At S&L?
Starting point is 00:20:28 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yes, baby. I'm so glad to finally get to talk to you. You look very at home here. Well, thank you. Having a depressed dick playlist is nuts. Jesus. Would you play it on your show is the question? Well, it'd be soft and subtle. Well, okay, let's just get into it. Now, I want you to explain to me why do you think men are so scared of therapy? Oh, man, I think it's societal, you know, for me, it came from like my father because
Starting point is 00:21:05 my father, he went to therapy two and three times a week and my father, you know, he was on like 10 to 12 different medications for his mental health issues, but he never told me that. I didn't find that out until November of 2018 after I wrote a book about it and I after I started discussing my own issues. And I remember asking my mom, to to to to to to to to to to to thia, thia, thia, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, thi, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, th mom, like, mom, you know, dad was going through all of that. And she said, I thought he was playing crazy to get a check. Because that's what they, that's what they did in the state of South Carolina.
Starting point is 00:21:31 They just would give him a check because they couldn't figure out anything else that he was going to. And I think about it. If he would have told me that, you know, back then, then I would have had the tools much, much earlier. But what I do is, and I learned this for my therapist, you got to give your parents grace. And the reason you've got to give your parents grace, you got to give them grace because they were doing
Starting point is 00:21:56 the best they could with what they had. Like we take tha their their their their th. their their they're they're th. th. thi. thi. to thi. to to thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thate. thate. thate. thi. thi. that. thate, and I'm thi. thi. th. And I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thr. And, thi. And, thr. And, thi. And, th. And, th. And, thi. And, th. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi luxury of healing. Absolutely. You know, that generation, they was really scratching and surviving on some good time stuff. You know what I mean? Absolutely. I think about it all the time that my parents were in their 20s and 30s, raising two kids. And I think about my twenties and 30s, talking about this type of stuff? Did you get a bad reaction? Did you get a positive reaction? Well, like a lot of things that come out of my mouth, I wasn't really caring about what
Starting point is 00:22:32 people thought. So, I was really just having these conversations because it was almost like it was a cry for help, you know, because I can't get on the radio and, you know, discuss what everybody else is going through and not discuss what I'm going through. You know, and I've always been transparent about my life, but I think, you know, going to therapy made me more vulnerable. So I was flirting with the idea for a while, so I'd be having conversations with a lot of people around me. Like, you know, I got to give credit the people like, to their, their, their, their, their, th, th, th, Pete Davidson, like even though Pete's younger than me, he was somebody that's been going to therapy for a long time
Starting point is 00:23:07 and just like having conversations with those, why is that funny? Jesus Christ! We should be applauding, yay, bees. But it's just like, you know, but it's just like, you know, having conversations with those individuals about things that I thought were normal, you know, because it took a long time for me to realize that, you know, anxiety is not normal.
Starting point is 00:23:30 You know, these bouts of depression aren't normal. A lot of times we think we can just, you know, write anxiety off to being in a better position in life. That was my case because I was dealing with panic attacks my whole life. And then the fourth time time time time time time time time tapapapapapapapape tape tape thi thi thi thi thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. I, th. th. th. th. th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. I th. I thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. I's, thi. I's, tooan, tooan, tooan, tooan, than. I's, tha-a. I'm tha-a. thi. thi. thi. I got fired from radio, when I was back at home living with my mom at like 31, 32 years old with like a two-year-old daughter, and my now wife was back at home living with her parents in most corner South Carolina, I remember having like one of those panic attacks
Starting point is 00:23:54 where you couldn't tell me I was not about to die. Like it was the French Stanford, oh me I got an athlete's heart you said your heart is fine he was the first person that ever say to me you know you do you do you deal with anxiety it sounds like what you're describing was an anxiety attack and so he was like are you stressed out about anything and I'm like hell yeah alright. Next gig I got was the breakfast club so you know three four years later I got more success more money than I've ever experienced but nothing has changed. Nothing has changed. An anxiety might even be worse the depression might even be worse and I really just was looking in the mirror not liking who I was
Starting point is 00:24:40 becoming and listen I love I love my father you know know what I mean? I love him to death, but I saw myself turning into him. And I saw myself, you know, really indulging in the drugs and really indulging in the alcohol and really indulging in other women and not treating my woman the way I needed to. And I was like, yo, for somebody that I thought I resented because of how I saw him and treat my mom, I'm becoming just like him. Do you think that that's why black man don't talk about therapy too because they feel like they're snitching on themselves? You know? I think we just don't be having the tools.
Starting point is 00:25:12 We don't be having the resources. I think we have now because we're having more conversations about it, I wouldn't have known anything, I would have known about it if my dad would have told me way, way, way, way, way back when. But I think, you know, man, come on, I'm 44 years old. I grew up in the era where you had to be hardcore. Like literally, there were a term, like, you're hardcore, like you didn't show no emotion, you better, you better go play outside. Why are you sad? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, you live in, you breathing. That's right, yeah. So, let me tell you, let me ask you, how do you deal with the panic attacks?
Starting point is 00:25:51 I mean, you tell you, theyretheat, theyme, you know, because that can help women just as men. How do you deal with panic exercises? How do, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, tha, tha, tha, thi, thi, thi, thr, thr, the, the, the, the, the, t, tell, tell, tell, tell, tell, let me, let me, let, let, let, let, let, tell, let, t, let, let, t, let, let, t, let, let, let, t, t, let, let, let, let, let, t, t, let, let, t, let, t, let, let, ta, let, ta, let, let, let, tell, tell, the, tell, the, the, the, tell, tell, tell, tell, tell, tell, tell, tell, tell, tell, tell, tell, tell, I got a new therapist now. And my new therapist told me something that's really interesting. You know, he said, he said, faith and anxiety can't coexist. So whenever you have those panic attacks, whenever you have those anxiety attacks, you got to tell yourself your own hero story. And I know it may sound arrogant, but no, you really got to tell yourself how far you came. You know, you have to tell yourself, you know, what you've overcome. You know, you have to talk about the good things that you, you know, you do for yourself, the good things you do for people. And I think that's something that we don't do enough.
Starting point is 00:26:32 We don't tell ourselves our own hero story. So much of us are getting to getting to getting to get to get to get to get to get the the to get the the the to the the the the the the the thi. and retweets and everything else, you know? So it's like, how often do you, how often do you wake up and look in the mirror and really just tell yourself your own hero story? You know, sometimes we laugh at Calid, but you're right when you say, you're sm. You know, you beautiful.
Starting point is 00:26:59 You know? You know? You might do it too much. Yeah, you know, you're beautiful. much but I get what you say I agree with you I agree with you on that he might do it too much but maybe we have to have a DJ Calid level of annoyance absolutely I get in order to encourage each other you know Mary J. Black had a song called good morning gorgeous good morning gorgeous yeah sometimes you got to wake up in the morning and do that's try I agree yeah yeah I agree yeah yeah sometimes you really got to a to to try a that's a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred a hundred percent percent percent percent percent yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah. I I I I to. I'm. I'm. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I I I I. I'm. I I I I I. I I I. I. I I I I I. I I I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. to. I'm. to. I'm. to. to. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm live with myself. You gotta like yourself. That's right. That's right. All day, when you go to sleep, when you wake up, when you're shitting, when you're shitting, you're about, you are with yourself.
Starting point is 00:27:32 So you better start like you. Tell yourself your own hero story. For all you brothers out there with the press dick, you know, look going to ask. See, that's what I was going to ask you. Do you think, do you think therapy like improves you as a sexual partner? I mean, please say yes so they can go to therapy, please. Yes, it does. But it really, it really does because it makes you more vulnerable, you know what I'm saying? And I think that it makes you more intimate, you know? And I think that you start approaching sex not just from a physical aspect, from a mental and a spiritual aspect. You know what I mean? There's a great song by Dead Prez.
Starting point is 00:28:11 It's an old school song. Damn, I can't believe I said, I can't believe it's old school. But it's called mind sex. It all starts here. So it is going to make what happens in the bedroom better. See, I just told my penis my own hero story. I might be dealing with erectile dysfunction and I just told my penis, my own hero story. That's right. So what would you say right now? What would be the thing that you say right now to tell men to go to therapy? What would be your inspirational, like what would you say say say say, to say, to say, to say, to say, to say, their, their, tho, tho, their, tho, their, tho, tho, tho, tho, thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, their, their, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, te? is, te? te? tell, tell, tell, tell, tell, tell, thi, tell, thi, thi, thiapy. What would be your inspirational, like what would you say to all the men right now? I would say the life you save may be your own because you know I saw what you were
