Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to Comedy Central. Coming to you from New York City, the only city in America. It's the Daily Show. Tonight. Who leaked? Flu States Abortion Band. And Alexis McGill Johnson. This is the Daily Show with Trevor Noah. What's going on, everybody. Welcome to the tabby show. I'm Trevor Noll. Thank you so much for tuning in.
Starting point is 00:00:45 Thank you for coming out and trust it. Thank you for being here, everybody. Oh man. Take a seat, take a seat. Let's see, let's get into this. We've got a jam-packed show for you tonight. We're going to be looking at all the fall the fall the fall the fall the fall to to to to lottery. Michael Costa is going to find out if people read the news and our guest is the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood. So, let's do this, people. Let's jump straight into the big news of the day.
Starting point is 00:01:10 All right, with the Supreme Court now seemingly on the brink of striking down Roe v. Wade, many people are horrified. Not that women in half the country would lose their right, with the Supreme Court now seemingly on the brink of striking down Roe v. Wade, many people are horrified. Not that women in half the country would lose their right over their own body, but rather that this information got leaked, which is weird. It's like running around the deck of the Titanic, trying to find out who yelled we're sinking instead of focusing on the iceberg. Now, Chief Justice John Roberts has announced an immediate investigation to identify the leaker. But cable news doesn't have time to wait around, so everyone knows who really did it.
Starting point is 00:01:51 Who did it? That's the question everyone is asking today, who's behind the league? Was it a clerk? Was it somebody at the copy machine? Who done it? Some left-wing law clerk, angry at the direction the court is going? I think this was leaked by a liberal law clerk who?, was th, was th, was th, was th, was th, was th, th, th, the th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the legal, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, to to to to to to to to to wait, to to to to wait, to to wait, to, to, to wait, toe, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi?a? thi.a? thiiiii. the the the the thi.a? the thi.a? thi.a? thi, clerk angry at the direction the court is going. I think this was leaked by a liberal law clerk who was trying to change the outcome of the case. A lot of people are saying this may have leaked from Justice Sotomayor clerk. If it was a conservative, it might be someone who wants to keep all the five judges that are on the side of Alito's opinion in their box there. Yes, it was a left-wing Antifa law clerk trying to sabotage the court.
Starting point is 00:02:26 Oh, it was a right-wing maggahead trying to lock the decision in place. Oh, maybe it was the butler. It's always the butler. But while everyone on regular cable channels was playing the least horny version of Knives, Newsmax had already cracked the case. It was the black woman. I find it suspect that the first leak coming out of the Supreme Court in history comes shortly after Judge Jackson is confirmed. She would be my first suspect when it comes to the leak.
Starting point is 00:02:59 And my first suspect for asshole is you. Is you. Bravo, Detective, bravo! Look at you, using the trade and true investigative technique of the black person did it. And you know, everyone has theories. For all we know, it could have been an accident. There are many times that I've gotten drunk and sent something that it should have stayed in drafts, but I mean, I guess that doesn't make sense for the Supreme Court, because like who would have gotten drunk at the Supreme Court? You know, it's a... I still like beer.
Starting point is 00:03:32 My man! Look, whoever did it though, I'm not surprised it happened. In fact, I can't believe that this didn't happen earlier. I mean, have you seen the security they have at the Supreme Court? It sucks. The guard outside is literally wearing a blindfold. It's not going to help anybody. And so I do get why they're trying to find this leaker.
Starting point is 00:03:56 You know, you don't want this to's leaks all the way going forward. I mean, look, look at what happened in the world of comedy. Yeah, one stand-up gets slapped. Now, Dave Chappell is getting tackled on stage. Shit. I had to get a pair of nunchucks just in case. Try that shit with me. That's right. Pop out now. Pop out now.
Starting point is 00:04:21 I'm going gonna show you. What? What? Knock myself out before you get to me. Now, while the Supreme Court is trying to figure out who the snitch is, the rest of the country is trying to figure out what women will be allowed to do with their own bodies. And while everyone knew that women in red states were in trouble, it turns out, thanks to some lazy lawmaking, there are also two blue states where women might lose the right to choose. If the Supreme Court does strike down Roe v. Wade later this spring, all lies in Wisconsin would then turn to a 170-year-old law that's still on the books. Wisconsin still has a ban on abortion in place from 1849.
Starting point is 00:05:05 It outlaws all abortions except for cases where a mother's life is at risk. In Michigan, the law was passed in 1931, and it bans abortion unless done to save the life of the person who is pregnant and contains no exception for rape or incest. The ban never had to be repealed because Roe had made it obsolete, but it is still state law, still in the books. This is so ridiculous. If Roe v. Wade goes away, Michigan and Wisconsin are gonna start using laws from 1931 and 1849? Do you understand how crazy? Think about how many laws are we using from back then?
Starting point is 00:05:40 Think about the laws that were even around. Half of them are about how much corn you can legally hide in your top hat. Those are the abortion laws that are about to come back into effect. Guys, unused laws shouldn't be a thing that come back. It should be, they should have like an expiration date. Or at the very least, states should smell them every every now and again to make sure that they haven't gone bad. Now you might be thinking, you might be thinking, well aren't Michigan and Wisconsin pro-choice? Yeah, they are, big time. More than 60% of Wisconsin voters and at least 70% in Michigan support legal abortion. But their state legislatures are controlled by Republicans. Yeah, so you best believe you're more likely to see fashion over at the MetGala than these Republicans
Starting point is 00:06:21 repeal those laws. And so once again, the job of protecting Americans falls to the only people who actually care about them. Corporations. As women fight for abortion rights, Amazon says they'll help their employees access the health care they want. The company announced on Monday that it will pay for abortions for employees who need them. They'll give up to $4,000 a year to workers who need to travel to other states to seek medical care. Other companies like Apple, City Group, Levi's and Yelp have made similar promises to employees. Wow! That's a big deal. Yeah, companies like Apple, City Group, and even
Starting point is 00:06:57 Amazon are promising to help their employees travel to other states if they need to get abortions, which is amazing. That's is amazing. That's really amazing. Usually you only see that kind of offer when a member of Congress gets his mistress pregnant. Really powerful. And considering the political climate right now, any company wading into controversial culture war issues, like they could face serious backlash. I mean, pro lifers could start a boycott against Amazon that could last minutes before they get tempted by a deal on a knockoff rumba. And you know
Starting point is 00:07:31 to be honest I'm actually surprised that Amazon is doing this. Yeah, because it's wild. They'll let employees go to a blue state before they'll let them use the bathroom. I mean that's pretty wild but but they deserve the praise. In fact I propose a toa toa. toa. the toa. the toa their their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. their th. thi. their their thi. thi. their thi. their their their their their thi. the deserve the praise in fact I propose a toast. Let's all raise a gatorade bottle of pee in Amazon's honor Here here Ah, I thought it was piss. It's gatorade. Wow You guys mixed it the wrong way. So those are the latest updates on the fallout of the Roe v. Wade leak from the Supreme Court and while we don't know where this will end. We do. the. the, the, th, th, th, th, th, th. tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, tho, tho, th, th, th, that, that, tho, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. the, the, the, the, the, the, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, that, that, that, that, the the the the the the the the they, the they. their, their, their, their, their, their, their their their fallout of the Roe v. Wade leak from the Supreme Court. And while we don't know where this will end, we do know it's definitely reignited a conversation about how society treats women's reproductive rights.
Starting point is 00:08:17 Because you know, what I find interesting is if you go online or if you watch conservative news, you're bound to find tons of people saying that the reason they're against abortion, the reason is because they don't want to interfere with what God has decided. If you got pregnant, it's because God wanted you to be pregnant. And if you can't have kids, that's God's plan, too, which I understand as an argument, I really do.
Starting point is 00:08:42 However, I find it interesting that these same people people people people people argument when it comes to men. Yeah, because if you watch, if you watch Fox News or any of these channels, they've got ads for erectile dysfunction pills, right? Yeah, how come they never say, oh you can't get it up? Well, well, that's God's will. I'm sorry. Your penis doesn't work anymore, that's what the Lord wanted. They never say that. They never say, medicine is always encouraged to do whatever it can to augment men's sexual health, however it can. And if you want to see, if you want to see just how far medicine is willing to go for men,
Starting point is 00:09:25 look no further than this story from the UK, where doctors helped a man grow a penis on his arm. A British man who lost his penis through an infection has finally had a new one surgically attached after six years of growing it on his arm. Doctors even designed a hand pump that can inflate the penis and produce an erection. 47-year-old Malcolm McDonald is the subject of a new documentary called The Man with a Penus on His Arm.
Starting point is 00:09:54 According to the Daily Mail, viewers were stunned watching the program last night, in which Malcolm described the penis falling out of his sleeve while shopping, and even hitting his loved ones in the face while he had done. Yeah. This man lost his penis and instead of accepting it, doctors figured out a way to grow him a new one on his arm.
Starting point is 00:10:21 And as hard as it was for him to live like this, I'm glad that medicine has come so far that we're basically doing something that's from the future. Meanwhile, we want women to live back in 1849. And by the way, can I also just say how much I appreciate the title of that documentary, the man with a penis on his own? No, it's simple, it's clear, it's direct. Yeah, if I see that scrolling on Netflix thia thia thia thia that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's clear, it's direct. Yeah, if I see that scrolling on Netflix, I know exactly what I'm getting. I know exactly what it is. Unlike Tiger King, I thought it was the sequel to Lion King starring tigers.
Starting point is 00:10:54 It turns out the real star was mess. But you see, there's a reason I'm bringing up the story today. And it's not just for the incredible dick jokes I could make. No. Like, obviously getting an abortion and getting an arm penis aren't the same thing. But I do find it emblematic of how differently men and women's reproductive health is treated. Women across America will soon lose autonomy over their own bodies.
Starting point is 00:11:18 And many people are fine with it. You even see people on TV downplaying the situation. So you'll have to carry a baby for nine months against your will and then let it destroy your body and maybe you're not ready for this in life and maybe you can't afford it's fine. You can just give it up for adoption after, it's fine. Meanwhile, a guy loses his dick and it's like, Liam Neeson is on the case. I don't care care how long it takes. I don't care what medical innovations we have to come up with, we will get your penis back. Just think about that. All right, that's it for the headlines.
Starting point is 00:11:47 Let's move on to something that everyone loves. It's time to check in on today's lottery numbers with Dulce Sloan, everybody! Oh, hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, how you're doing today. How you doing? I am so excited. What's happening, Duté, what's going on? How you doing today? How you doing? Listen, I am doing absolutely great, you know, blessed in Holly Favered. But before we get to the lottery, can we talk about Katangi Brown, Jackson, please?
Starting point is 00:12:19 Oh, you mean the newsmax story where they said they suspect her? Well, absolutely, because it's like, everybody knows you don't do dirt when you first start a job. Like, when you first start working one somewhere, that's not when you steal. Otherwise, I would have walked out of here with seven desktop computers. No, you start stealing when you about to quit, like that Stephen Brayor, you know, the other white, other white, the white man. Uh, of a hundred hundred th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thu, thu, thu thirt, thi, thi, thirt, thirt, thirt, thirt, thirt, thirt, thirt, thirt, thirt, thirt, thirt, thirt, thirt, thirt, thu, thu, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thu, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi about to quit like that Stephen Breyer do, you know the other white, other white, the white man. Of a hundred of them. He's on his way out. He's the one that leaked it. When you quit, that's when you start stealing. Everybody knows that!
Starting point is 00:12:58 It's an interesting theory. Listen, I give you a prime example. Okay, I used to work for a power company who cannot be named and when I was getting ready to quit, everybody who called me whose lights wasn't on, I just turned their lights back on. That's the one. Now listen, is it a felony? Maybe. But am I a a felony? Maybe. But am I a good person?
Starting point is 00:13:27 Absolutely. I'm glad you can name them. I'm glad you name. All right, well, let's do it. Let's get into this lotto. Oh man, this is exciting. All right. Hey, lado, lado, la do.
Starting point is 00:13:41 Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah. All right. All right. All right. B6. What, no, no, no, no, no. Wait, do you say, no, no, that's bingo. I sent you an email saying we're doing lacho, and you-
Starting point is 00:13:57 Yo, man, the last time you had me doing this, the balls didn't have no numbers. I brought you letters and numbers. Come on, baby! No, but I sent you an email saying it needs to be numbers, but like it needs to still be lottery. We talked about this. You think I'm reading whole emails? Did you put it in the subject line? I can't put it all in the subject line? Then you didn't want me to know the information? So if you don't read the emails, what do you read? So if you don't read the the emails the emails the emails the emails the emails the emails the emails the emails, if you don't the emails, if you don't read, if you don't read, the emails, the emails, the emails, the emails, to read, to to to to to to to to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be to be to be to be to be to be to be, to be, to be, to be, to be to be, to be to be to be, to be to be to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, their, their, their, their, the the the the the the the the the the the to be the to be the to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be 't read the emails, what do you read? Listen, if it's not on Instagram, I don't know what's happening. What if, I told you the lots of, I even told you about the news, I put the news in the email. Listen, I get all my news from this show, so I don't know what you're talking about.
Starting point is 00:14:33 Oh boy. All right. All right. Okay. The next one is then... Number a lot old, yeah! I... Is that a line? I 21. This doesn't... This doesn't help us. Okay, I, I, 21.
Starting point is 00:14:53 Wait, hold on. Let me... I'm sorry. Did you say a man had a penis on his arm? Yeah, they grew a penis for him on his arm. Okay, well, but that's the penis he chose? Like if they give you, like if they're gonna grow you a new one, on your forearm, shouldn't it be like down to his fingertips? I think it's weird to be worried about this side.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Like I think if you don't have a penis and then someone offers you a penis I think you just take what you can get. Listen, there are many times in my life when I haven't had a penis. And I promise you, I didn't settle for anyone that just came along. You understand? You got to have standards, Trevor, okay? You got to love yourself. You got to love yourself.
Starting point is 00:15:55 Thank you so much. Now listen, that's all for me. You got... What do you mean it's all for? You didn't give us the numbers? I'm so sorry, I got distracted by the penis. I forgot about the balls. Don't say Sloan, everybody.
Starting point is 00:16:12 All right, don't go away. Because we're still going to be joined by the President of Planned Parenthood. You don't want the Hollywood stage. Unaware of a predator in the audience, waiting to pounce, waiting for his moment. It happens in an instant. Unaware of a predator in the audience, waiting to pounce, waiting for his moment. It happens in an instant. Make some noise for hip-hop history.
Starting point is 00:16:48 The attack is swift. The Chappelle is down and the audience member has him, but unfortunately it looks like his attack has failed. The Chappelle is back on its feet, and the audience member turns and runs as the hunter has become the hunted. The Chappelle security pursues the person and now all hell breaks loose. Where did they come from? Chappell turns, looks to make sure he is unscathed, and prepares his own attack.
Starting point is 00:17:28 I am going to kill them. The audience member has f-fied around, and he has also found out. This is the circle of life. Here at the show we pay a lot of attention to what's going on in the news. But how much are the people outside our studio? Here at the show we pay a lot of attention to what's going on in the news. But how much are the people outside our studio following along? Well, we sent Michael Costa to find out for another edition of Fill Me In.
Starting point is 00:18:07 Welcome to Fill Me In, the game where we put their words into your mouth. Oh, that sounded kind of gross. Okay, welcome to Fill me in. This is a game where you fill in the... Gaps. Gaps. Give me another answer. A game where you fill in the... Gaps. Gaps. Give me another answer. A game where you fill in the...
Starting point is 00:18:28 Answers. Answers. Another answer. A game where you fill in the... Missing links. Blags. Do we know who this is? No.
Starting point is 00:18:39 All right. Republican, Duh. Who looks at this and says Democrat. Republican Congressman Madison Cawthorn. Oh, I've heard of him. You probably read his stuff on the blogs you read, huh, Mom? Republican Congressman Madison Cawthorn recently said, quote, the Ukrainian government is incredibly corrupt and is incredibly evil and has been pushing blank. A false narrative?
Starting point is 00:19:09 No, false narrative is what Russia has been pushing and Madison Cawthorn here. Before you guess, it's not cocaine and orgy's, but it is similar because it's also something he made up. Chicken kaffs? This is something that Madison and his fellow Republicans find terrifying, but Democrats describe as just being nice to people. Giving someone some beat. You do know a lot about American stuff. It rhymes with...
Starting point is 00:19:34 Roque. It's Mike. I'm not sleeping, I'm... Woke. Woke ideology. Woke ideology. Woke ideology. How did you know that?
Starting point is 00:19:47 Wow. Do you believe that Ukraine is pushing this woke ideology? Not so much. They're pretty busy with the war. They're staying alive. Volk ideology, of course. Perfect. You know, woke ideology, like what those leftists believe that Russia shouldn't be invading a sovereign country. So politically correct.
Starting point is 00:20:05 Ugh, politicians. For this next round, let's hear it from the real heroes, movie stars. Reese Witherspoon recently tweeted, are you curious about blank? Let's learn together. President. What's something that if I said it to you, you would go, oh. Traveling the world is interesting. What's something you want to you you would go, oh. Traveling the world? Traveling the world is interesting. What's something you want to hear less about?
Starting point is 00:20:27 Going boot and free. Here's a hint. It's something that no one actually needs. But everyone's talking about. And it's not Tick Tock. Uh, critical race theory. CRT. It's actually another acronym. P B. I'm at a party. I'm t. I'm t. I'm t. I'm t. I'm t. I'm t. I'm t trying. I'm t. I'm trying. I'm trying. I'm trying. I'm trying. I'm trying. I'm trying. Who said, I don't think I'm qualified to answer this when then President Trump asked him what he should do about North Korea. Who said that?
Starting point is 00:21:50 Pence? Mike Pence? What? Mike Pence? You are giving Donald Trump way to think that he would ask a try to. to think that he would ask an actual politician, a policy question. Can I have hints, please? He introduces himself like this.
Starting point is 00:22:05 My name is Blank. Blank. Rupal actually is qualified to handle North Korea. Okay. Have you seen drag race, breaking up arguments, dealing with egos, disappointments, success? No. Think of the least qualified person that could answer a question about North Korea. That's one of his songs. I don't just scream that. Thank you so much, Michael Costa. All right, when we come back, Alexis McGill Johnson, the president of Planned Parents who is joining me on the Daily Show.
Starting point is 00:23:07 My guest tonight is the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood. He's here to talk about the fight for Roe v. Wade and protecting women's rights to choose. My guest tonight is the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood. She's here to talk about the fights for Roe v. Wade and protecting women's rights to choose. Please welcome Alexis McGill Johnson. Welcome to the Daily Show. Thank you so much for having me. What a time to have you on.
Starting point is 00:23:55 Everybody in the country has been shell-shocked by what is not an official decision, but unfortunately looks like a looming one nonetheless. As the president of Planned Parenthood, I know many people are turning to you oming one nonetheless. As the president of Planned Parenthood, I know many people are turning to you to say what does this mean? What does it actually mean on the ground? So right now it is still a draft opinion. On the ground, abortion is still legal. And I think that's really important because there are people waking up every day who are going to health centers to get access to care and there are already enough
Starting point is 00:24:27 restrictions out there so we have to remember that this is a moment where the final decision isn't in. What we saw on the ground as well yesterday was an intense set of demonstrations of the rage that people have been experiencing over and over again and the frustration with seeing the rage that people have been experiencing over and over again, and the frustration with seeing their rights being chipped away. When you look at that and you look at that fight, do you ever think that we could do a better job of maintaining a consistency in these fights for people's liberties as opposed to having it be an on-off switch? Because, you know, I know people have made record donations,
Starting point is 00:25:01 I know there are people out protesting, etc. But if you look at conservatives on their side, it seems like they've been slowly chipping away. They slowly chip away. They plan way in advance. They think of which judges to get into which positions. And now it looks like they're going to reap the fruits of their labor. I'd love to know what you think people who believe that women should have the right the right the right the right ir own bodies, what they should be doing constantly as opposed to intermittently. Well I think you're absolutely right to locate it like in what the long game is, right?
Starting point is 00:25:29 That the opposition has spent 50 years fighting this, but the last 12 years in particular, weaponizing, gerrymandering in states, focusing on justices all the way up to the Supreme Court. And at every turn, they have tried to essentially take more power in order to take more rights away. And it is not just access to abortion that they're coming for, right? We've heard them openly talk about access to contraception, marriage equality, interracial marriage, all the things of how we identify ourselves and our bodies is exactly what the long game and the strategy is. So our long game has to be just as relentless, right?
Starting point is 00:26:06 It has to be just as strategic. It is not just about being in the streets. It is about capturing that rage and turning it into the midterms, you know, 222. We've got to make sure that we're turning people out. And we also have to think about even us out of the Constitution, right? If Roe We Wade is overturned, they are essentially saying, you are not equal, you cannot control your body. And so if anybody kicks you out of the Constitution,
Starting point is 00:26:29 you've got to think about how you're going to get yourself back in there. Yeah. When you think about the time people think about what they can do to stop the other side or what they can do to fight back at what's happening. I think there's one thing that I found really interesting in particular between how many conservatives or Republicans think and then how many Democrats or liberals think and that is Republicans hold their own accountable in an interesting way you know so they go either you're doing this or you out of the party and we've seen Trump do that, you know, without fail. Is this something that people
Starting point is 00:27:08 could be doing to put pressure on the Democrats to say, hey, when we have voted you in, we need you to solidify what we voted you in to do? Yes, absolutely. Look, there is a bill right now called the Women's Health Protection Act. Leader Schumer has, we'll take it up next week again with the Senate to vote on. And what the Women's Health Protection Act does is it codifies Roe. It's the federal legislation that protects this right into law.
Starting point is 00:27:35 And you know, getting people on record, we don't have unfortunately, we need to perform the filibuster in order to get it passed. But at the same time, we are going to be able to get people on record, hold them to account to your point. And that's our message, right? The reason you can't have what you want, even though we have 80% of people believe that Rose should be the law of the land, the reason you can't have the only way to change that is through direct democracy.
Starting point is 00:28:06 So we've got to fight to get ourselves back into democracy. We also have to fight to get ourselves back in the Constitution, and this legislation can help us do them. Let's talk about this legislation for a moment. You know, I always get frustrated and confused by protection act, you know, I love the idea of codifying Roe v. Wade. You go, like, let's get women their rights. But then it adds in a few other things that people can use as an excuse to fight against. You know, like, it affects like waiting rooms. And correct me anywhere I'm wrong. It's like, it affects doctors in this and a little things. Do, and a little, and a little, and a little, and a little, and a little, and a little, and a little, and, and, and, th. And, th. thi, th. th. thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, let, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, like, like, like, like, like, like know, a law, when you help lawmakers to try and think of these things, it gives people an out where they can say, oh, I didn't vote for that because of this,
Starting point is 00:28:49 not because I want women to have a choice, but I didn't like what it did to doctors or their waiting rooms, or all these other ancillary issues that are going to affect people. now, right? We have, Roe is the law of the land, technically until the full decision comes down. And even with Roe being the law of land, even with it being enshrined in the Constitution, states have put restrictions in over and over again, right? We've got a six-week ban in Texas that comes to the bounty hunter provision. We've gothour period. The laws are all about shaming people. They're about shaming providers, they're about shaming the patients, about the decisions that
Starting point is 00:29:30 they want to make about their own bodies. What the Women's Health Protection Act does is actually says all of these laws that are that are getting in the way of people being able to access the right, the thrown, their, their, their, their, their, their, to their, to to to to to to to to, to, to, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, to, to, to, their, to, their, to, their, to, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, is, their, their, the right, their federal right, is those are laws that are, that would be banned. And that's what's important, right? The fact that even though we have the right right now, access itself is so limited. And so that's why we're seeing the outrage right now because it has been not only this chipping away of rights, but also chipping away of access. Row was just, you know, the floor, right, as my reproductive justice colleagues would say. Wow. When you look at branding, you know, there's no denying that any political messaging,
Starting point is 00:30:10 any messaging that's trying to mobilize society has to think about how it's branded. When you look at how people approve of, or what, you know, the polling suggests about people's support of abortion throughout the United States, I have noticed an interesting trend, and that is it dramatically changes depending on how the question is asked, and it changes depending on where you say the abortion happens or how. So I think, you know, the overwhelming majority of people will say they are pro a woman having the right to choose, but in the first trimester. And then second trimest trimester, and then flips the other way, and then, you know, third trimester it completely flips. Do you ever worry that maybe Planned Parenthood
Starting point is 00:30:47 and organizations like yours that are fighting for women's rights to choose, do you ever worry that you may be losing the entire war because you're not willing to concede on some of the battles? Or do you feel like you have to pregnancies end in the same way, right? I mean, it is the reality that people will make decisions about their pregnancies whether or not to continue them or to terminate them based on the circumstances in their own lives. And that is the thing that we really need to understand here. You know, getting parsing out weeks and gestation, that is what the opposition is to, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, thi, their, the, thi, thi, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, opposition has done. They try to create these wedges around understanding. What most people want is to not have a politician in their
Starting point is 00:31:28 decision, right, as a, you know, you know, right? You don't want them, you don't want them in your exam room, you don't want them in the conversation with you and your doctor, you don't want them the conversation with you and your partner, and at the end of the day, like like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, you, the the the the, the, the, the, the, the, the, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, to, the the to, the the the to, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, the the the the the the the the, the, you, the the the conversation with you and your partner, with your pastor, and at the end of the day, like that to me is the most important message that we need to be sending to people. The reason why it also needs to be a private decision is because it's only your business. And so, right? Right. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:55 Where's you from here? So again, we will be standing with the Senate next week when they take up this vote to support all of those folks who support access to abortion codifying row. We will be channeling all of the rage through 2022. And then, like I said, you know, we have a long game that we need to play around what it really means to have this federal protection enshrined in the Constitution. And I think that's really important because I think a lot about the fact that, you know, what it means to be a leader at the time, you know, at the end of Roe as a leader of a reproductive rights organization.
Starting point is 00:32:37 And I think the question we have to ask ourselves now is who are we going to be when we are no longer defending row? How are we going to reimagine and create an affirmative vision, right? Without stigma, the kind of provision that everyone should be able to have, the kind of health care they need to have in the thear they need to have in the ta. their own state, their, the, the, car, theyr-in-l-a. thrown. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thr. thr. the-s. the-s. the-s. the-s. the-s. the-s. the-s. the-a-s. the-a-in. the-in kind kind kind kind-a-in kind kind-s. the-s. th-s th-in kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind-s. the kind-s. the kind-s. their-s. the-s. the-s. the-s. the-s. the-s. the-s. the-s. the-s. the-s. the-s. the-s. to-s. to-s. to-s. to-a-a-s. to-a-a-s. to-a-a-s. to-a. to-s. to-s. thr-s. throwne. thrown All of those things are really important, and that's what Planned Parenthood stands for. That's what all the leaders in the movement stand for, and we'll be offering that affirmative vision as well. Thank you so much for joining us, let's say. Appreciate your time.
Starting point is 00:33:12 To find out Bands of Our Body All right, we're going to take a quick break. We'll be right back after this. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. Thank you very. Well, that's our show for tonight. But before we go, please consider supporting the national network of abortion. There's a grassroots organization on the ground, building power to remove financial, logistical, cultural, and political barriers to abortion. They form a network of over 70 grassroots organizations, and they recognize the power of local
Starting point is 00:33:52 activists knowing what their communities need. Right now, abortion is still legal in all 50 states. So, if you can help them, please donate at the link below. Until tomorrow, stay safe out there. And remember, if you have a penis growing out of your arm, maybe just do fist bumps. Watch the Daily Show, weeknights at 11, 10 Central on Comedy Central.
