Starting point is 00:00:01 I'm Brian Gottstein, and this is the Daily Signal top news for Wednesday, March 20th. Here are today's headlines. A nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting migrants with their paperwork and legal needs in New York City has been caught on video illegally filling out residency documents for a man without getting any form of identification from him. This is according to a report by the Daily Signal's Jarrett Stepman. Video shot by Muckraker.com and obtained by the hered Foundation's Oversight Project appears to show the nonprofit organization La Hornada saying that
Starting point is 00:00:49 distributing such documents is against the law, but then proceeding to do so with another person the next day. The video also shows the organization distributing paperwork to get individuals a government-issued New York City ID card. Such a process suggests that an illegal alien could easily get a city ID under a phony name through the nonprofit. La Hornado. which operates out of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Queens, describes itself as, quote, helping migrants navigate the complex asylum processes and other legal procedures.
Starting point is 00:01:24 The organization is at least partially funded by taxpayers. In 2023, Representative Grace Mang, a New York Democrat, secured for it $250,000 in federal funds. A federal court on Tuesday shut down a Texas law that allows state and local law enforcement to arrest people suspected of entering the country illegally. According to the newspaper The Hill, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals issued a stay to prohibit the law from being enforced. But earlier on Tuesday, the Supreme Court rejected an emergency application from the Biden administration that argued that the law usurped federal authority. The Texas law would allow law enforcement not only to arrest those suspected of coming into the country illegally,
Starting point is 00:02:11 but would also allow them to be either jailed or even deported. Former Hunter Biden business partner, Tony Bubbolinsky on Wednesday accused Biden, his one-time ally, of lying under oath during a House impeachment inquiry hearing. This is according to a report from the Daily Signals, Fred Lucas. Bubbolinsky told the committee that Hunter Biden gave his transcribed interview on February 28th and lied throughout his testimony. He said that Biden lied to the committee about, important details concerning Biden's demands for money from Chinese energy company CEFC in text messages
Starting point is 00:02:49 to the company back in 2017. Bubbolinsky said Biden made threats and leveraged his father's influence to strong-armed CEFC into paying him immediately. CEFC is an energy firm that Hunter Biden was doing business with that also has connections to the Chinese Communist Party. As first revealed by IRS whistleblowers, Hunter Biden demanded money and a text message asserting, I am sitting here with my father. After months of closed-door depositions with Biden business associates, the committee hearing was among the first to include testimony from witnesses in the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. That inquiry is for suspected influence peddling by his family members. There was an empty seat at the witness table for Hunter Biden who declined to testify in a public hearing.
Starting point is 00:03:38 The president's son previously gave a deposition in late February to avoid a contempt of Congress citation. Prior to that, Hunter Biden and his lawyers said that he only wanted to testify at a public hearing. During this hearing, Bubbolinsky said he was 1,000% sure that Joe Biden was the big guy that Hunter Biden said was getting 10% of the money that came in. He also stressed that Joe Biden was the brand that was being sold. His family's foreign influence peddling from China to Ukraine sold out to foreign actors who seek to gain control and access to Joe Biden and the United States government, Bobolinsky testified to the House Oversight and Accountability Committee on Wednesday. He dismissed claims that Biden wasn't involved in the family financial dealings. Joe Biden was more than a participant and a beneficiary of his family's business. He was an active, aware, enabler who met with business associates such as my sister.
Starting point is 00:04:35 to further the business, Bobolinsky said. A Georgia judge on Wednesday enabled former President Donald Trump to appeal a ruling that failed to disqualify Fulton County District Attorney Fonney Willis from Trump's election interference case. Willis has been accused of having an improper relationship with Nathan Wade, the top prosecutor that she appointed to the case. According to Fox News, Fulton County Superior Judge Scott McAfee allowed Trump and eight co-defendants to seek an appeal of the decision.
Starting point is 00:05:09 Steve Saddow, lead counsel for Trump, said he's optimistic that the case will eventually be dismissed and that Willis will be disqualified. On Friday, McAfee told Willis that she'd either have to fire Wade from prosecuting the case or she'd have to remove herself. Wade resigned shortly thereafter. According to Fox News, the judge then said that the defendants failed to prove that the district attorney had an actual conflict of interest in this case because of the judge. of her personal relationship with Wade.
