Starting point is 00:00:00 President Donald Trump is vowing to eradicate anti-Christian bias from the government. I'm your host Rob Louie, and this is the Daily Signal Top News in 10 for Thursday, February 6th, 2025. President Donald Trump addressed members of Congress and faith leaders Thursday at the National Prayer Breakfast, promising to make America faithful again. The Daily Signal's Jacob Adams reports that Trump pledged to make America, quote, more faithful to our God than ever before, even as the United States is currently suffering a crisis. of faith. The silent generation, those born from 1928 to 1945, identified as Christian by 84% in a Pew Research Center poll conducted from 2018 to 2019. More than 3 and 4, 76% of baby boomers,
Starting point is 00:00:53 born between the years of 1946 and in 1964, did as well. Yet that number has declined in subsequent generations of Americans. Only 49% of millennials, those between 1980 and 1994, identify as Christian. Trump promised to sign an executive order directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to create a task force to eradicate anti-Christian bias. The mission of this task force will be to immediately halt all forms of anti-Christian targeting and discrimination within the federal government, including at the DOJ, which was absolutely terrible, the IRS, the FBI, terrible, and other agencies. In addition, the task force will work to fully, prosecute anti-Christian violence and vandalism in our society and to move,
Starting point is 00:01:42 heaven and earth to defend the rights of Christians and religious believers nationwide. You've never had that before, but this is a very powerful document I'm signing. You've got it. You got it now. First time you've had it. If we don't have religious liberty, then we don't have a free country. We probably don't even have a country. This week, I'm also creating the White House Faith Office, led by Pastor Paula White, who is so amazing. Trump already fulfilled part of his promise by pardoning Christian pro-lifers convicted in the prior administration under the Freedom to Access Clinic Entrances Act, one of whom
Starting point is 00:02:20 was an attendance at Thursday's breakfast. My colleague Elizabeth Mitchell closely follows this issue and reported on Trump's latest action today. Elizabeth, thanks for joining us. Thanks for having me. This task force to end the war on Christians will be comprised of members of the president's cabinet and other key government agencies. What does it aim to do?
Starting point is 00:02:39 It aims to identify and eliminate all anti-Christian policies, practices, and conduct. As you said, Attorney General Pam Bondi, who was confirmed by the Senate on Tuesday night, will lead the task force in order to stop religious discrimination in America. Now, you have done a whole series of stories reporting on what transpired during the Biden administration. What were some of the problems that Christians experienced? A big example that stands out is that the Biden Department of Justice conveysed. 23 peaceful pro-lifers who were praying at abortion clinics and encouraging women to choose life. About half of those pro-lifers, many of whom were elderly and had health conditions served time in jail.
Starting point is 00:03:20 This is especially shocking because the Biden-D-OJ charged hardly anyone over the hundreds of attacks on pro-life pregnancy centers and churches. There are also examples of discrimination in employment in the foster care system and more against people who believe in only two sexes. Now, President Trump's action today is getting a lot of support from religious Americans. What sort of a message does it send to them? It sends a message that, as President Trump said, the weaponization of government against people of faith is over. Under the Biden administration, Christian parents were targeted for standing up against gender ideology. Prolifers were arrested for praying, and people who exposed or opposed transgenderism were ridiculed and feared losing their employment. religious freedom is a founding principle of this nation.
Starting point is 00:04:07 So I think Christians are really thankful to have those rights protected again. Well, that certainly is the case. And thank you, Elizabeth, for your reporting on this issue and your insights today. You can follow Elizabeth's work on X at the Elizabeth Mitchell. Thanks. NFL players are preparing for Sunday Super Bowl in New Orleans. And members of the Kansas City Chiefs in Philadelphia Eagles aren't shy about speaking openly about their faith. Each team's star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes for the Chiefs, and Jalen Hurts for the Eagles,
Starting point is 00:04:37 spoke about the role of Jesus Christ in their own lives during the Super Bowl's Media Day. Here is Hertz answering a question from Sports Spectrum's Matt Forte. Hey, Jayland is here? Matt Forte here with Sports Spectrum. I talked to Pastor Ted about you. He mentioned specifically spiritual growth. How have you grown this year spiritually in your faith in Jesus? I think my faith has always been a part of me where I've always wanted to root my myself in that and keep him in the center of my life and everything that I do. And so, you know,
Starting point is 00:05:06 through the highs and the lows and the lows, he's greater than all of them. And that's something that I can always acknowledge and in the failed of circumstance I can always lean on and remember. And so that's something that we ought to probably take note of and take lessen of. Amen. Chief's quarterback Patrick Mahomes also shared his belief in Christ with sports spectrums Annabelle Hasselback. Who is Jesus T.O.? Um, Jesus is my Lord and Savior. It's someone that I look up to every single day to decide what I want to do with my life and how I want to live my life. And so Jesus is everything to me at the end of the day. Is there a specific Bible verse or something that you've leaned on this season?
Starting point is 00:05:44 I don't know about this season, but I always lean on Acts 27 through 12 about a boy named Uticus in his faith and him listening to a sermon and falling and dying and come back to life. And it just spoke to me at that moment of how I need to live my life and how I need be fully invested in God. Last month's college football national championship game also featured a large number of players from Notre Dame and Ohio State who expressed their belief in Jesus Christ, including quarterbacks from both teams. At the Super Bowl Media Day, at least a dozen Chiefs players spoke openly about their faith. You can read more at DailySignal.com. President Trump's executive order banning men from women's and girls sports is already having an impact. The NCAA, which was ground zero for many of these controversies, announced Wednesday night that it would comply with Trump's order. Here's the NCAA statement.
Starting point is 00:06:37 We strongly believe that clear, consistent, and uniform eligibility standards would best serve today's student athletes instead of a patchwork of conflicting state laws and court decisions. To that end, President Trump's order provides a clear national standard. The NCAA Board of Governors is reviewing the executive order and will take necessary steps, to align NCAA policy in the coming days, subject to further guidance from the administration. Riley Gaines, a 12-time NCAA All-American Swimmer for the University of Kentucky, was forced to compete against a male athlete in college.
Starting point is 00:07:12 Since then, she's spoken out against the NCAA's rules. Gaines was on hand for the White House ceremony Wednesday and appeared on Sean Hannity's Fox News show that night. To see him deliver in the way that he did, that visual that you saw, him signing this executive order with, I mean, dozens of young girls surrounding him. I mean, I can't even tell you what that visual means to me. Someone who, of course, I mean, three years, it doesn't sound like a long time,
Starting point is 00:07:38 especially for those who I feel indebted to, who fought long before me. But, man, I just feel vindicated. And I feel this overwhelming feeling of gratitude. Meanwhile, Lacey DeCosta, the wife of the Baltimore Ravens General Manager, expressed support for Trump's executive order, writing on X. I have played sports my entire life. I was an All-American lacrosse player. Many girls don't see this as a trans issue, but a fairness issue.
Starting point is 00:08:04 I will always fight for fairness when it comes to girls in sports. The Daily Signal will continue to closely follow this story. Immigration and customs enforcement officers targeted multiple apartment complexes across Aurora, Colorado, on Wednesday. The operation targeted 100 members of the dangerous Tren-Duragua gang, but netted only one gang member. Fox News embedded with ICE and reported the gang members were tipped off about the raid in advance. White House border czar Tom Homan told Harris Faulkner he wasn't deterred.
Starting point is 00:09:11 This is not a gang. When we show up these sites, this is a dangerous job for the men and women of ice and border patrol and all the DOJ agencies. To have that type of interference puts our officer at great risk. not only the officers, it puts the aliens at great risk, because anything can happen when we take our eyes off the goal here. So we're addressing that immediately today. Democrats have successfully delayed FBI director nominee Cash Patel's confirmation until next week. The Daily Signals, George Caldwell reports. The Democrat's obstruction is part of a trend of heightened hostility to President Trump's nominees in the past week,
Starting point is 00:09:47 as Democrats have also attempted to delay the confirmation of Budget Chief Russell Vote. Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa. announced the week-long holdover on Thursday, saying, the minority as well as myself, has exercised their right and my right under committee rules to hold over the nomination of Cash Patel to be director of the FBI. So that nomination is held over. The Daily Signals Fred Lucas caught up with Democrat Senator Dick Durbin on Thursday to ask about his opposition to Patel.
Starting point is 00:10:15 Are there any circumstances where you could vote for him if the answer is some questions satisfactory? I doubt. I've investigated this gentleman. I've read this book twice. which is cruel than usual, but I've gone through twice. So I understand what makes it tick. He should not be ahead of the FBI.
Starting point is 00:10:33 The Trump administration ousted members of the board that would hire Kerry Lake to head up the voice of America, potentially easing her appointment to the long-troubled international broadcasting agency. Fred Lucas reports for the Daily signal that Beauxhall requires Senate approval. Lake would be hired by the International Broadcasting Advisory Board, members of which require Senate approval. The Office of Personnel Management notified the board members of their removal in late January. Federal workers have a few more days to decide if they want to take the Trump administration's buyout offer,
Starting point is 00:11:07 thanks to a judge's ruling Thursday. Government employees were supposed to submit their resignations by today, but the new ruling extends the deadline to at least Monday. Another hearing is scheduled for that day. And that'll do it for today's episode. Thank you for listening to Top News and Ten.
