Kamala Harris lost the race, but President Biden said Harris ran a campaign she should be proud of.
I'm Virginia Allen, and this is the Daily Signal's Top News in 10 for Thursday, November 7th.
It was not that long ago that President Joe Biden hoped he would be celebrating his re-election this week.
Instead, he delivered a speech to the American people from the White House today in response to his vice president, Kamala Harris' election defeat.
Biden said he spoke with Trump and pledged that his administration would work with the Trump team to ensure a peaceful transition of power.
Biden also said that he spoke to Harris yesterday and went on to praise his vice president.
She ran an inspiring campaign and everyone got to see something that I learned early on to respect so much.
Her character.
She has a backbone like a ramrod.
She has great character, true character.
She gave her whole heart and effort.
and she and her entire team should be proud of the campaign they ran.
Biden also shared a message of unity and assured the American people that the U.S. electoral system can be trusted.
Something I hope we can do no matter who you voted for.
They see each other not as adversaries, but as fellow Americans.
Bring down the temperature.
I also hope we can lay the rest of the question about the integrity of the American electoral system.
It is honest, it is fair, and it is transparent.
Despite his calls for unity, some Democrats are looking for who to blame for Harris's loss,
and some fingers are being pointed right at Biden.
Democrat Andrew Yang ran against Biden back in 2020.
Yang says the biggest onus of this loss is on President Biden.
If he had stepped down in January instead of July, we would be in a very different position.
Arizona State University academic Tom Riley said he's not sure if in the short term Biden can escape the legacy of being the president who beat Donald Trump only to usher in another Donald Trump administration four years later.
Jim Manley served as a senior aide to former Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Manley says Biden's legacy is in tatters and claims that the country is headed in a very dangerous direction and it's due in part.
to his arrogance, referring there to Biden.
Democratic strategist Mark Longabaugh said Biden should have stepped aside earlier and let the party put together a longer game plan.
With Trump winning both electoral and the popular vote, it is unclear, though, if more time would have been enough for Harris to get elected.
Trump's victory is due in part to his strong performance among Latino or Hispanic voters.
In fact, Axios reports that 46% of Latino voters back Trump this election,
and Trump's numbers among Latino men were even greater.
55% of Latino male voters back Trump,
and 38% of Latino women did the same.
Trump won more Latino voters than any Republican in recent history.
I spoke with Mike Gonzalez about this issue.
Mike is a senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation.
He's written pretty extensively on this issue,
and he said that Trump picked up such a large percentage among the Hispanic vote,
largely because of traditional values as well as the border issue.
It is like the incompetence of the Biden-Harris administration.
They disliked the open borders and they disliked that were deeply, deeply offended by being called Latin X
by the latte elite class, by coastal latte elite class, which is really what the left is now.
It's just a regional party.
In Texas specifically, Trump earned 55% of all Hispanic voters.
He also won a number of Democratic stronghold counties in Texas that share a border with Mexico.
Mike says he wasn't that surprised by this.
Biden and Harris throwing the border open and allowing millions upon millions to stream in
for a reason that we haven't really yet understood was the deciding factor.
as far as the Rio Grande Valley goes, as far as these 14 counties on the border with Mexico.

The full interview with Mike Gonzalez will air on our show right here Sunday.
While Trump winning the election is not a major surprise, his margin of victory has left much of the country quite amazed.
And no one has been more surprised than the main surprise.
stream media that has spent much of the past eight years criticizing Trump. So how is the media
responding to such a significant victory for Donald Trump? Here with us to discuss is Daily Signal
columnist and author of the War on History. Jared Stapman. Jared, thanks for being here.
Oh, thank you for having me. So, Jared, there were seven swing states in this election that
folks were really specifically looking at that the media was really specifically following.
Five of those swing states have already been called for Trump. We're just one.
waiting on the results from Arizona and Nevada, but both of those states are trending red.
Now, I did not hear anyone in the corporate media predict that Trump would win all seven
swing states.
What is the reaction that you have seen from the corporate media to Trump's victory?
Yeah, it's really interesting.
I mean, in the predictions that were sometimes being made or trumpeted by the media,
there was one in particular.
There was a historian named Alan Lickman, who does some kind of, who does a lot of
data analysis, they say, is predicted the last 10 elections or something. I mean, he was saying
just before that Kamala Harris was certain to win this election, that she was leading in Michigan,
Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Georgia. I think he predicted that she'd win 283 electoral college votes.
That was obviously wildly wrong. And as far as the actual reaction now in the days following
this election, I find it very interesting, especially the commentary that you've seen on some
of these networks, is that actually the real problem is that there should have been more censorship
of social media. We saw NBC Stephanie Rule saying essentially that, that Congress should have
stepped in and tried to censor social media. So I don't think corporate media right now is
handling this very well, as I think a lot of their power has clearly waned during this election.
I think that was one of the clear messages from Tuesday night that they don't have the power
to influence how the American people vote or think anymore. Well, I think that's very well said
because you think about the fact that the corporate media has spent so much time criticizing Trump directly.
And yet, not only did Trump win the electoral vote, he won the popular vote.
So what do you think that tells us about how much really faith, trust, time, attention the American people are even giving to the corporate media anymore?
Almost none. I think there's been a tremendous sea change. I think it's something that we saw sort of coming during this election.
Of course, a lot of this was precipitated by entrepreneur Elon Musk buying Twitter that since became X.
I think actually loosening up a lot of rules on these social media platforms, which I think became freer in the speech and freer in the communication.
And I think the reality is after this that people have entirely tuned out the mainstream corporate media networks.
They're turning more to the Daily Signal and many others, alternative media that I think a lot of people trust a lot more than them.
And I think that that was one of the big messages after this.
And I would hope that in the corporate media, there would be a bit of a rethink after all this
and why they've lost the trust of the American people.
I don't think that will necessarily happen.
But media itself, I think, is in good shape.
I think there's no question that politicians, candidates, you know, people are able to get a message out there.
They're doing so on podcasts.
They're doing so on social media platforms that I think hopefully will remain free into the future.
And I think that's a good thing.
I think that's a good thing for democracy, which is what a lot of these people were talking about.

Jared, thanks for your time.
Thank you very much.
Now, let's hit our newsflash for the day.
Up first, Trump is now president-elect, and that means that some of the legal cases against Trump might be coming to a swift end.
The so-called hush money case that Trump faces in Manhattan could be tossed out as soon as this month.
Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Mershahn is expected to announce next week if Trump's felony conviction will stand.
Trump pulled off many victories in some pretty surprising places on Tuesday.
He even won Minnesota's Blue Earth County, the county that Harris's running mate Tim Walls lived in for 20 years before he became the governor of Menace.
Minnesota. Trump won 49.6% of that county, and Harris earned 48.3% of the vote there.
In Michigan, not only did Trump win the state, but Republicans have taken back control of the
statehouse. Republicans had control of the state house in Michigan for four years, but lost
control back in 2022. Now, they're back in the majority. This will make it very hard for Michigan Democrat
Governor Gretchen Whitmer to get much done during the next two years.
as she completes her term.
With that, that's going to do it for today's episode.
