This is a bonus episode of the Daily Signal podcast.
Each year, the Faith and Freedom Coalition hosts the Road to Majority Policy Conference
with political leaders and other newsmakers.
Our team was on location at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C. for this year's event,
and we're bringing you their interviews with some of the speakers.
Be sure to visit DailySignal.com for additional coverage of the conference
from reporters Mary Margaret O'Lahan, Fred Lucas, Elizabeth Troutman, and Olivia
Apparo. Stay tuned for the interview right after this. It was 10 years ago that the Daily
Signal officially launched as an alternative to the establishment press. We believed then that
major newspapers and broadcast networks were leaving a massive audience of conservatives and
independent-minded Americans unserved. We set out on June 3, 2014, to inject competition into the
market. Well, our hypothesis was correct. To all the patriotic Americans and support, we set out, on June 3rd, 2014, to inject competition,
of our work, thank you for making the past 10 years possible. Going forward, you can expect
the same insightful reporting and thoughtful commentary from the Daily Signal as you've come to
rely on for the past decade. Just as our name implies, we will continue to be your signal that
cuts through the noise to transmit the news quickly and simply. More importantly, we will always tell
you the truth. That is our promise. We believe that by focusing on quality journalism,
the unbatched knowledge of our contributors,
and insider intel, thanks to our access to policymakers,
the Daily Signal's future is bright.
But we can't do it without your help.

Senator Hawley, thank you so much for joining us today.
So we'd like to talk to you about this letter.
sent to the DOJ about Dr. Eton Haim.
Can you fill us in on what you're asking, Merrick Garland, and Christopher Ray?
It is such an outrage and miscarriage of justice that this brave Texas doctor,
who, let's not forget, blew the whistle on a Texas hospital that was illegally performing
gender sterilization surgery, so-called gender transition surgery.
It was illegal.
He brought that information forward.
He did not disclose anything confidential.
And instead of thanking him, which is what they should have done, the Biden Justice Department
indicted him. I want to know
who is involved in that decision.
I want every piece of memoranda
involved with it, every scrap of paper
preserved, because what needs to happen is
the Republican Senate, come the fall,
needs to haul these people in,
put them under oath and find out who did this,
and there needs to be accountability.
We cannot just sit back and allow
this abuse of our entire legal
system and the weaponization against
political figures like Trump,
but also against everyday people like this doctor,
we cannot allow this to go forward,
or we won't have a country left.
Now, something interesting I noticed in your letter is you said that he's not being prosecuted
for the way in which he obtained the records in question, but for or not disclosing any of the
confidential information.
Can we talk about this more?
So it's not about what he obtained, but how he obtained it.
No, exactly.
If you look at the charges carefully, what it says is it tends to bring this hospital into disrepute,
you know, that it raises questions or that it, it, um,
It challenges their reputation.
I mean, it's really outrageous.
You dig into these charges.
It's like, wait a minute, wait a minute.
Because all the headlines were, oh, he violated his obligations as a doctor, HIPAA.
He violated those.
First of all, no, he didn't.
There's no evidence of that.
Secondly, that's not actually, if you dig into it, what he's really charged with.
I mean, this is a sham.
It is a sham, and the message is, it's meant to send a message.
And the message is, don't you dare challenge the transgender agenda.
Right.
Don't you dare challenge the Biden administration.
don't you dare stand up.
And we have got to put a stop to this.
So it reminds me of a similar incident on a different culture issue in D.C.
where these activists found the bodies of babies and tried to call for investigations into what happened to them.
And D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser instead said,
we're going to be prosecuting this activist for how she found the babies.
Is this a strategy that the Biden administration has been using?
Absolutely. Absolutely. Just like that, just like the prosecution of pro-life demonstrators,
peaceful pro-life demonstrators.
You think of the gentleman from Pennsylvania,
Mr. Howke, who had a SWAT team show up to his door, later acquitted.
You think of this woman now who's recently been in the news prosecuted
because she was singing, you know, sitting and singing outside of an abortion clinic.
I mean, what, you can't sing.
Singing is now, what, violence?
That's unrest?
This is insane.
This is all meant to send a message.
And the message to Christians, conservatives, is, don't you dare open your mouth.
And boy, if we sit back for that,
this countries we know it will not exist in longer.
So what effect do you think that's going to have on Americans who have been brave enough,
like Dr. Heim, to speak out on these issues?
Well, I hope it has the opposite of the intended effect.
I hope it galvanizes them.
I hope people see this and say, like Dr. Heim is saying,
I will not stand for this.
And that's why I sent my letter.
I want people to know we've got their back.
I want them to know we're going to fight for them.
Because if you just sit back and say, oh, how sad.
Let's move on.
The Biden administration and the crazy left,
they'll just keep right on doing it.
This is like a Mack truck.
They want to just drive over anybody in their way.
And it is illegal, and we've got to stop it.
Now, I know there's been a lot of going on in Missouri with your state's attorney general looking into similar issues.
Do you have any updates for us on how this is going?
Well, just that I'm so glad that the attorney general is out there across the board, whether it's with Planned Parenthood,
whether it's with the so-called gender clinic that we had at a University of Missouri.
You know, again, we had a brave whistleblower there.
Come forward.
This is why whistleblowers are so important.
She came forward.
and said that the clinic was sending kids into gender transition surgeries,
prescribing them sterilization drugs without actually ever treating them.
They weren't seeing counselors.
They weren't seeing psychologists.
And much of the time, this was done behind the parents' back.
I mean, it's an industry.
And here's the other piece of it.
Somebody's getting paid.
These people are making money, and we need to follow that money.
I bet we'll find the pharmaceutical companies are behind this.
And, of course, taxpayer money, I'm sure, is being abusively spent
on this kind of outrageous, frankly, child abuse.
So, you know, polling shows that most Americans aren't on board with this type of thing.
How do you think that's going to impact this next election?
Boy, it really throws into stark contrast the choices.
You know, as a parent, listen, I got three little kids, 11, 9, and 3 years old.
And I just think as a parent, I mean, am I going to be able to raise, are my kids going to be safe?
Am I going to be able to raise my family?
If I send him to school, is some counselor going to tell my kids, my little girl, that you're not really a girl, you're a boy?
And is that counselor going to prescribe her drugs or send her off to somebody to prescribe her drugs without her,
mom and me knowing about it. I mean, every parent
America now has to ask themselves this question. It's
incredible. And so you've got one party,
the Democrats, who are the party
of, take your kids away from you,
give your kids sterilization drugs,
make your kids unsafe so that they can't
stand at the bus stop without getting shot at. If that's
what you want, vote for them. I think if you
want a safe home life, if you want your kids
to just be raised under, you want
to raise your own kids, you want them to be
safe and sound and whole, then you've
got an alternative. Now last question
for you. What do you think Merrick Garland
and Christopher Ray are going to do about this situation with Dr. Eton Haim.
Oh, I think that they'll do what they always do, unless we stand up and take action.
What they always do is they lie.
They hide the truth.
They lie to Congress.
They do this all the time.
They've done it about the pro-life demonstrators.
They've done it about the parents.
Let's not forget the parents at school boards.
I mean, part of what they're trying to do is they're trying to overwhelm us.
I mean, it is so many abuses all at once.
It just, we just become numb to it.
Who would have thought that in America, the Justice Department would activate its
anti-terrorism division against parents.
We think of that now. It's like, oh, yeah, gee, I guess that happened.
Oh, my gosh. So this is a pattern.
And my point is, and my message to my fellow Republicans is, we have to break this pattern.
And unless we act, that pattern won't be broken.
We've got to go out there and take action.
Right. Well, thank you so much, Senator Polly.
We're so grateful for your time.
Thank you.
And that'll do it for today's episode.
