A Daily Signal senior reporter became Amazon's best-selling author for LGBTQ books after releasing her book last week. This comes from our reporter here, Olivia Perro, who brought this news to the forefront.
Starting point is 00:01:04 The Daily Signal's Mary Margaret Olahan's new book, Detrans, true stories of escaping the gender ideology, cult hit the top of the LGBTQ book charts with a five-star rating on Amazon. If you missed Mary Margaret's interview on this show about the book, you can check out today's show notes to catch that full conversation. But the book by Mary Margaret Olahan shares the stories of individuals who transitioned into the opposite gender, their biological sex tried to. They later regretted their decisions, and then they began the process of reversing the effects of transitioning. D-Trans surpassed gender studies scholar Judith Butler's book, Who's Afraid of Gender,
Starting point is 00:01:47 and a true crime novel about teen lesbianism titled Cruel Sacrifice in Amazon's LGBTQ Plus Demographic Studies book section. Olaihan has made numerous TV and podcast appearances to speak about her book, D-Trans, in the recent weeks. She spoke with former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee on his weekly news talk show, Huckabee. She also appeared on Newsmax, personally, Sebastian Gorka's America's first podcast, and on the Catholic News Show, EWTN, News Nightly. Olihan told Hockaby when she was on his show that the stories of detransitioners represent the strongest weapon in combating gender ideology. And I think that these stories of detransitioners are probably the strongest weapon in combating gender ideology. And so I felt like it was really important to talk to the detransitioners,
Starting point is 00:02:39 the young people who tried to do the unthinkable and change their gender, and to put their real raw stories in a book that can go out to the world and, you know, maybe someone's not conservative, but they can read that book and understand the realities of these attempted gender transitions and then they can know for themselves. You can purchase Mary Margaret's book, D-Trans, wherever books are sold. A judge has sentenced a 75-year-old woman, a pro-life woman, to prison. Pollitt Harlow was sentenced to 24 months in prison on Friday for attempting to dissuade women from getting an abortion.
Starting point is 00:03:17 The Daily Signal's Elizabeth Troutman has been covering this story. She joins us now. Elizabeth, thanks so much for being here. Thank you so much for having me. You spoke to Paulette on the phone, and I'm really eager for us to talk about that conversation and what she had to say. But if you would, first just explain this situation. This goes back to an incident that happened outside an abortion clinic in 2020, where Pollitt was praying. What happened?
Starting point is 00:03:41 Yes. So in October of 2020, Paulette was with a group of other pro-lifers from a Boston-based pro-life organization called Operation Rescue. They go into abortion clinics and they try to pray with women and dissuade them from having abortions and tell them that they have other options that they're loved and that they don't have to do this. So Paulette was there in October of 2020. and she was accused under the Face Act, which is supposed to protect clinics from being blocked by people,
Starting point is 00:04:18 and it could be used to protect churches, pro-life resource centers, but unfortunately it's been used in multiple cases to bring charges against pro-lifers who are trying to help women who are in vulnerable situations, thinking about getting abortions. So Paulette was convicted in November and then sentenced on Friday to 24 months in prison. She's waiting to find out which prison they're going to place her in. She's currently under house arrest. But Paulette has some very serious health conditions. She has acute back pain.
Starting point is 00:04:52 She's in a wheelchair. Diabetes, a number of other conditions, liver issues. She can't take pain medication. She has trouble sleeping through the night. And she is very concerned about how her health conditions would fare in a prison. She said she has a very hard time maintaining her life at home with the help of her husband and children. So she is concerned about her ability to survive in prison. But the most beautiful thing about my conversation with Paulette was that she is not afraid at all.
Starting point is 00:05:24 She totally trust God. She knows that he is with her and will be going with her. And I asked her how people could pray for her because a lot of people are thinking about this story. And she said, please don't pray for me. Pray for the women who are in vulnerable situations thinking about having abortions and pray for the unborn babies and pray for abortion to end. And so she's just an incredibly selfless woman. It's a really sad case, very devout Catholic. So we're hoping that the judge will give her a prison that could deal with her health conditions or better yet let her stay on house arrest.
Starting point is 00:06:02 But her lawyer did file an appeal. So we'll see what happens with this case. Okay, we're watching this play out. It was interesting to see the judge's comments during this ruling. This was Judge Colleen Collier-Cotley of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. And that's the judge that issued this two-year sentence. What did the judge say during that sentence that a lot of folks have been talking about as being pretty surprising? So at one point in the trial, Paulette's husband gave a plea for Paulette's life saying that he,
Starting point is 00:06:36 thought she might die in prison with her health conditions and he didn't want her to die alone. And the judge reacted positively to that statement, Pollitt said. But then later in the trial, the last thing that the judge said to Paulette, live action reported this, is that she hopes that Paulette can stay alive because that is a tenant of her religion. So that was kind of an odd statement, pretty disrespectful to Paulette's faith for sure. Elizabeth, thank you so much for your reporting on this and for taking the time to talk to Paulette. We really appreciate it. Thank you so much for having me. Registered voters across the battleground state of Nevada registered in prisons and at commercial addresses such as casinos, strip clubs, and fast food restaurants.
Starting point is 00:07:25 Now, an election watchdog group is pushing for action before mass mailing of balance. Lots begins. This comes from a report from the Daily Signals, Fred Lucas. Research Director for Public Interest Legal Foundation, Logan Churchwell, wrote to the Clark County Registrar of voters Laura Partillo on Monday regarding the situation. Partillo oversees voter registration in Nevada's largest jurisdiction, including Las Vegas. Churchwell wrote, in our analysis of Nevada's statewide voter list dated April 9, 24, we identified numerous addresses. listed as residential that appeared to be commercial buildings where no one resides. Attached to this list is a list of addresses from Clark County.
Starting point is 00:08:11 He continued, we are including pictures that we have taken at each location along with additional information we collected. We request that you conduct your investigation and make any appropriate corrections to the voter roll by June 17, 2024. Public Interest Legal Foundation also posted a video on. social media, showing visits to numerous commercial locations where voters are listed as residing, only to find people unaware of the registered voter's name. I'm Lauren Biss. I'm here in Nevada, documenting for election officials, commercial addresses
Starting point is 00:08:47 where people do not live, and mail ballots may be going to these addresses in the upcoming 2024 elections. Is Kevin Plincer here? In Nevada, by the state law, you're required to be registered where you actually live, where you sleep, not where you work, not at a PO box. So we're trying to get election officials to enforce the law. Hi, my name's Warren. I'm looking for Michael Clark and Michael Woodford.
Starting point is 00:09:15 Hi, I don't know. Okay, they don't live here. No, no one lives here. Okay, they're registered to vote here and I'm just trying to make sure their ballot gets to the right place. So, but you don't know them. This would be their mailing,
Starting point is 00:09:27 if they use this, this would be their mailing, Now, YouTube, oddly enough, posted a disclaimer on that video, saying mail ballots submitted by voters who meet eligible and validity requirements are counted in every election. Before they are counted, election officials vigorously verify the validity of every mail ballot submission. However, the point of the Foundation's video was to request that election officials verify the location of registered voters, then update their lists. accordingly. Churchwell's letter to Portillo says ensuring the accuracy of the voter role is especially critical given that Nevada has recently expanded voting by mail. We'll keep you posted as this story develops. A lengthy Wall Street Journal investigation explored how President Joe Biden's age and mental acuity have become a serious problem leading up to the 2024 presidential election. According to
Starting point is 00:10:30 the journal. Biden, who is 81 years old, is the oldest president in American history and has demonstrated a lack of mental acuity in private meetings with congressional lawmakers in addition to poor performance in public settings. The journal said while the White House maintains that Biden is as sharp as ever, many of the 45 people that the journal interviewed said that Biden has showed signs of serious decline, including many Democrats. Former Republican Speaker, of the House, Kevin McCarthy, said in an interview with the journal, I used to meet with him when he was vice president. I'd go to his house. He's not the same person. The journal's report highlighted specifically high-profile meetings where lawmakers noted that Biden demonstrated
Starting point is 00:11:15 poor cognitive performance. For instance, on January 17th, Biden met with lawmakers to discuss spending on the war in Ukraine. The Wall Street Journal report said that Biden moved so slowly around the cabinet room that the meeting took 10 minutes to start. Biden then started the meeting reading notes to make broad points about the need to give money to Ukraine. But this struck the participants as odd, according to the journal, because everyone in the meeting had already agreed that funding was necessary. When the discussion did start, Biden typically deferred to other lawmakers and staffers
Starting point is 00:11:51 when he was pressed to engage with the discussion. One person who was at that meeting said, according to the discussion, to the journal, you couldn't be there and not feel uncomfortable. With that, that's going to do it for today's episode.
