President Trump calls for a new census excluding illegal immigrants.
I'm Tony Kinnett, host of the Daily Signals Tony Kinnett cast, syndicated nationally at 7 p.m.
Eastern. It is Friday, August 8, 2025. This is the Daily Signals top news in 10.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made waves yesterday when calling for a Democrat Party platform that supported
transgender care for minors across the board.
How is your office responding to the causes in gender affirming care here in California?
Well, that is something that I'm working for at the national level,
and we have, can I say, are hoping that we can have gender affirming care for our trans kids.
And that it's a sad thing for us.
I'm not totally, I don't know what, I don't know what effect we can have nationally with what we have going on in the White House and in the Congress.
It's really very sad if you were there. Outside our door, we have a trans flag.
Outside of our door in the Congressional office building, we have the trans flag, as do some of our other colleagues.
but that view is not necessarily shared by people on the other side of the aisle.
Additionally, AIDS and fellow companions with Democrat mayor candidate for New York City,
Zoran Mamdami, bragged about the idea of making New York City a sanctuary city
for transgender treatments for minors from across the country.
Check it out.
Zoran is literally attempting to do what conservatives say.
you know, we want to do, which is provide gender-affirming care to anyone who wants it for free,
and we're going to, like, ship people. We're going to fly people in and pay for their hotel rooms,
and we're going to do all of the, like, Fox News stuff. Like, we're getting ideas from Fox News.
I want to do that. But most importantly, is we collaborated with the Zora Mundani campaign on his trans rights platform.
And what we explicitly wanted to do was use the power of New York City to provide free gender-affirming care.
and I say free in case insurance companies to decide to move us off, free gender affirming care,
not just to people in New York City, but across the country.
That's not all Democrats across the country are trying in order to restoke some kind of support
amid some really rough new polls showing them 30% underwater with the American public.
Former campaign architect for Bill Clinton and now Democrat strategist James Carville
suggested that Democrats need to stop playing by the rules.
and instead pack the courts and admit states into the union.
The Democrats talk about democracy,
and you have these people in importance of democracy,
and preserving democracy and say the democracy.
Well, the truth of the matter is,
people are right when they say this democracy is really imperfect.
And they're going to have to do if the Democrats win the presidency,
the Senate and the House in 2028,
which is not impossible.
I don't know if you say likely or possible.
I don't know what word you know, but it's certainly not impossible.
They are just going to have to, you know, loudly add Puerto Rican and the District of Columbia
States.
They're going to have to, the Constitution gives Congress power over federal elections.
I don't think they can't read district, but they think they'll do.
They're going to have to do it.
They're just going to have to do it.
And they may have to expand the court to 13 members.
Any of those things in isolation,
I would be skeptical about, I would be cautious about.
I would say, well, I don't know if that's the greatest idea in the world.
You're opening Pandora's box or all kinds of things.
If you want to save democracy, I think you've got to do all of those things.
Because we're just moving further and further away from being anything close to democracy.
And I don't know if it's something that they should talk about during the campaign.
I guess you probably would want to
because if you have a Democratic House,
a Democratic senator and a Democratic president,
they should do that on day one.
Four more United States sentences,
four more Supreme Court members,
and some stringent national legislation
on how you can do Congress.
They could easily pass a lawsuit.
You can only redistrict once every 10 years.
Yeah.
I mean, what are you?
precipitated constitutes a crisis with this Supreme Court said you can't expand to 13.
They say that some impediment to adding two more states, sure.
And what they do, they don't just issue a ruling on the Shatter Docket saying it's overturned,
but you've got to force ahead.
Yeah, the Shadow Docket is supposed to be the emergency document.
The only rule when there's an emergency.
The shadow document now is emergencies are when Trump needs it.
Right.
And that's what they've done.
They don't give you a reason anymore.
Yeah.
I mean, I don't know.
I really don't.
But if you're going to save this country or this republic or whatever you want to call it,
you're going to have to do something in 2028 because it's slipping away from it.
must by about a minute. Of note, Carville makes the claim that Congress has the authority to
redistrict states via federal law. That's untrue. The states under the U.S. Constitution do have
the sole authority to set up districts for the congressional apportionment. This is actually
a way that the state legislature gets to check federal government, according to how the entire
framing of the Constitution was set up. The Supreme Court does have the ability to overrule
district maps set forward by states. Again, this is the one-man, one-vote precedent. But this brings us to the
census, President Trump, calling for a new census which would exclude illegal immigrants.
Yesterday, the president of the United States posted early in the morning, I have instructed our
Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on a new and highly accurate census based on modern-day
facts and figures, and importantly, using the results and information gained from the presidential
election of 2024. People who are in our country illegally will not be counted in the census.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. Now, not only would a new census here in the middle of
this particular census cycle, so called, likely favor Republican voters and red states given the
massive amount of migration out of blue states and into red states. And not only because
illegal immigrants not being counted would also severely hurt blue states, whom several Democrats,
representatives from New York to Texas have suggested are essential to keep them getting
reelected.
And from Brooklyn, New York, we have a diaspora that can absorb a significant number of
these migrants.
And, you know, when I hear colleagues talk about, you know, the doors of the end being
closed, no room in the end.
I'm saying, you know, I need more people in my district, just for redistricting purposes.
And those members could clearly fit here.
The Biden Census Bureau team admitted multiple times that they overcounted blue states
and undercounted red states in the last census, making the prior census inaccurate at best
and fraudulent at worse.
Here's Governor Ron DeSantis and President Trump discussing redistricting and how this entire
process might move forward before the midterm.
Ron, they include anybody that happens to be in your state.
California would lose like five seats if they did a fair census.
And even beyond that, the Biden census jipped Florida of at least one seat.
We only got one seat in the last census.
Are you trying to tell me that Florida only had one seat and that?
We should have had at least two.
Texas should have had another one.
That could be the difference in the House of Representatives and the majority.
So I would love for them to redo the census for 26.
My legislature will redistrict those lines.
We'll get it to where it's fair.
But as it's right now, this country is not fairly apportioned.
I've got so many more millions of people in Florida that have representation because of that flawed census.
I think it's going to do very well.
A lot of people, I don't know if you've heard about it.
It's like it's captivated the country.
Everybody wants it.
It's going to get in.
It's going to pass.
Now, some have suggested that under 13 U.S. Code, Section 141, the Senate,
the Secretary of Commerce directed by the President may conduct a mid-decade census.
Per this particular statute, the results can't be used for the congressional apportionment or redistricting.
However, this isn't set in stone in the Constitution. It's rather vague, anyhow.
And state legislatures do retain the authority even with this particular law in place to decide from which census they take their congressional reapportionment.
In other words, there's nothing in the Constitution that states that the important factor of taking a census is that it be taken once every 10 years and only every 10 years.
This is arbitrary.
And we can see this in context in Federalist Paper No. 54 in which James Madison makes the case that a census needs to be as accurate as possible.
Otherwise, taxation and representation, which is a fancy way to describe what the U.S. Congress is, can't be profit.
properly balanced, meaning that in the South, if they were allowed to come up with their own
census numbers during the time of the early American Republic and count non-citizens as individuals,
it would have given the South an undue and unbalanced amount of political power in the
country. Not to mention the moral and ethical issues of having individuals participating in slave labor
and then being counted in the census to give states that honor those particular policies
a leg up in the national political process.
