Election Day is almost here, and both candidates are ending their campaigns with a bang.
I'm Virginia Allen, and this is the Daily Signal's Top News in 10 for Monday, November 4th.
It's election week. Already almost 75 million Americans have cast their ballots this election.
That's according to the New York Times. Millions more Americans are going to wake up on Tuesday morning to go vote or maybe vote after work on Election Day.
both candidates are making their final appeals to voters today.
Democratic candidate Kamala Harris is spending much of her day in Pennsylvania.
She held rallies or gave remarks in Scranton, Allentown, and Pittsburgh.
Harris will end the day in Philadelphia, where she will give her final appeal to voters at the base of the famous Rocky Steps.
Harris is pulling out all the stops with some pretty big names at her rally tonight, including Oprah Winfrey, Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, DJ,
J. Cassidy and Fat Joe. Trump is holding four campaign events today. He started his day in
Raleigh, North Carolina, before he jetted off to Pennsylvania, where he held rallies in both
Redding and in Pittsburgh. And he's holding his final rally of the 2024 campaign season in Grand
Rapids, Michigan at 10.30 p.m. tonight. Polls indicate that Trump and Harris are neck in the
seven swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
We will be bringing you a deep dive into each of those swing states during tomorrow's show.
As part of her final campaign blitz, Harris made an appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend.
Harris appeared in a comedic skit with comedian Maya Rudolph, who has played Harris on SNL in the lead up to the election.
I don't really laugh like that, do I?
Oh, a little bit.
Now, Kamala, take my parmala.
The American people want to stop the chaos.
And end the dromola.
With a cool new stepmamala.
Kick back in our pajamas and watch a rom Kamala.
Harris received a very warm welcome from that live audience at SNL,
but the appearance put NBC in some hot water. NBC is the network that airs SNL.
After the show, Federal Communications Commissioner Brendan Carr warned that SNL hosting Harris and not Trump
violated something called the Equal Time Rule. It's worth noting that Trump appointed Carr to the Federal Communications Commission.
So what is the Equal Time Rule? The Equal Time Rule requires that radio and TV stations
provide candidates of opposing parties with an equal opportunity to share their views.
Carr said Saturday night that S&L having Harris on the show was a clear and blatant effort to evade the Federal Communications Commission's equal time rule.
Now, NBC has filed a notice with the Federal Communications Commission.
NBC told the commission that Harris appeared on the show for one minute and 30 seconds without charge.
And NBC says that they gave Trump ad airtime on Sunday.
A Trump ad ran at the end of the NASCAR playoff race and a Trump ad also ran after the game during NBC's Sunday night football coverage.
Back in Pennsylvania, Trump is facing some backlash after a remark that he made in Littitz, Pennsylvania on Sunday.
Trump was speaking outside in the town that's in Lancaster County.
He had bulletproof glass all around him as he stood on the podium.
But he said that if a sniper wanted to shoot him, they would.
have to shoot through the fake media.
Take a listen.
And I have this piece of glass here, but all we have really over here is the fake news,
right?
And to get me, somebody would have to shoot through the fake news.
And I don't mind that so much, because I don't mind.
I don't mind that.
The campaign's national press secretary, Caroline Leavitt, told ABC News, obviously he was joking.
Well, whether Trump was joking or not, the mainstream media ran with Trump's comments.
NBC News headline read, Trump talks shooting at press, ramps up election fraud claims at PA Rally.
The Washington Post wrote in their headline.
Trump says he doesn't mind someone shooting at journalists at rally.
And Politico ran the headline.
Trump says he doesn't mind if someone has to shoot through the media.
Now let's hit our newsflash for the day.
First up, the election drama was high over the weekend, and that was to be expected.
What was not expected is that a social media famous squirrel would have anything to do with the excitement.
So if you have heard anything recently about peanut the squirrel, let's go over the quick version.
There's a couple in New York State, and they run an.
animal rescue organization. Peanut the squirrel was one of their rescue animals and was the main
animal that they used in the marketing for their work. The squirrel lived with the couple in their
house, but last week, authorities showed up at the couple's home and took peanut as well as a raccoon
who lived in the home and euthanized them. So both peanut and Fred the raccoon were euthanized.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation said it had gotten complaints that
wildlife was being kept illegally and potentially unsafely in the home. New York requires a special
license for residents to own wildlife as a pet. The squirrel's owner so that they had been caring for that
animal, specifically for peanut the squirrel, for seven years. The story took off on social media on
Saturday, especially after Elon Musk started posting about it. New York is, of course, a blue state,
and Musk posted a meme, captioned, Democratic Party Priorities List, with killing a squirrel.
at the top of the list and arresting illegals at the bottom.
Speaking of New York, New York Democrat Governor Kathy Hokel joined MSNBC on Saturday and called Republican voters anti-women and anti-American.
Hockel said if you're voting for these Republicans in New York, you are voting for someone who supports Donald Trump and you're anti-women, your anti-abortion, and basically you're anti-American because you have just trashed American values.
Iranian authorities have arrested a woman after she stripped down to her bra and underwear in protest of the nation's strict dress code for women.
The woman was on the campus of the University of Tehran. Her identity is unknown.
Iranian law requires that women wear loose clothing and a headscarf when in public.
The Eastern European nation of Moldova has re-elected pro-Western president Maya Sandu.
Sandu defeated a pro-Russian opponent to war.
win her re-election. Her victory is welcome news for the Western world. President Joe Biden issued a
statement today congratulating the president on her re-election. Two quick announcements before we go today.
