Starting point is 00:00:01 Drivers may disapprove of President Biden's push for electric vehicles. I'm Elizabeth Troutman, and this is the Daily Signal top news for Thursday, June 20th. A McKinsey and Coe study shows that almost half of electric vehicle owners want to go back to gas-powered cars. The study obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation revealed that electric vehicle drivers miss internal combustion engines because of their affordability and the lack of accessible charging stations for their EVs. Yet the Biden administration has said it aims for EVs to comprise half of all new car sales by 2030. In March, the Environmental Protection Agency finalized a rule to require car manufacturers to make up 56% of the cars and other light-duty vehicles they sell by 2032.
Starting point is 00:00:59 According to the study, 58% of Americans said they are very likely to keep their current gas-powered cars longer. 44% are likely to postpone a possible switch to EVs. Today is the 52nd anniversary of Title IX. The federal law hailed as a victory for women's rights that prohibits sex-based discrimination in schools. But the Biden administration proposed to reinterpret the rule to prohibit discrimination on the basis of so-called gender identity, paving the way for men and boys to use girls and women's bathrooms and locker rooms and participate in female sports. The Heritage Foundation held a press conference at the Supreme Court this morning, featuring Louisiana State Superintendent of Education, Cade Brumley.
Starting point is 00:01:45 Brumley called the rule change in abuse of power, violating the safety and order of society. He said at the conference, I choose to stand for girls and women in our state, as discrimination has no home under my watch. Under the leadership of Brumley and Louisiana Attorney General Liz Merle, Louisiana became the first state to file a legal challenge against the Biden administration's proposed revisions of Title IX. Attorney General Merle said at the press conference, I am grateful and proud to be able to say that we obtained the first injunction in the country. Shortly followed by that issue to the state of Tennessee and another coalition of states, so I expect many more to follow.
Starting point is 00:02:28 A study by the Manhattan Institute found Wikipedia to be biased on behalf of liberals. The study found a mild to moderate tendency in Wikipedia articles to associate public figures who were aligned right-of-center with more negative sentiment than public figures who were ideologically aligned left-of-center. The New York think tank also found that online user-edited encyclopedia associates negative emotions with right-wing individuals. Wikipedia claims to have a neutral point-of-view policy, meaning it supposedly aims for articles to be written in an impartial and unbiased tone. An Israeli military spokesman said it is unlikely
Starting point is 00:03:09 the Israel defense forces can eliminate Hamas, though Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the goal of the war is total victory over the terrorist group. Military spokesman Daniel Hagari said in an Israeli TV interview Wednesday that the idea we can destroy Hamas or make Hamas disappear is misleading to the public. Higari continued, Hamas cannot be destroyed. Hamas is an idea. Those who think it can be made to disappear are wrong. Netanyahu's office pushed back on Hagari's comments in a tweet, saying, the security cabinet headed by Prime Minister Netanyahu defined the destruction of Hamas's military and governmental capacities as one of the goals of the war. The IDF is of course committed to this. Hagari said the only way to remove Hamas is to
Starting point is 00:03:59 grow something different. He said the politicians will decide on the replacement of the terrorist organization. The New York Times reports that two experienced judges advised Eileen M. Cannon, the judge who oversaw the Trump classified documents case, to pass it to a different judge. This happened shortly after Cannon received the assignment last summer. The Florida judge has been criticized for her handling of the case against the former president. Donald Trump appointed a her to the bench in 2020. Trump is charged with improperly retaining classified documents after he left the White House and with obstructing the recovery of those records. And that concludes today's episode. Thank you so much for listening to The Daily Signal's
