Congress considers how anti-Israel rioters took over D.C.'s Union Station.
I'm Elizabeth Mitchell. This is the Daily Signal, Top News, Intent for Tuesday, December 10th.
How did violent anti-Israel pro-Hamas rioters get away with destroying government property,
burning American flags and an effigy of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,
and raising a Palestinian flag in place of old glory on July 20.
GOP members of Congress on Tuesday asked this at a House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Oversight Hearing titled,
Desecrating Old Glory, investigating how the pro-Hamas protests turned National Park Service land into a violent disgrace.
On July 24th, protesters swarmed Union Station in Washington, D.C., to tear down the three American flags that stand tall outside the transit hub and replace them with Palestinian flags instead.
The rally in March was a protest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Washington
to address a joint session of Congress.
The National Park Service's associate director was unable to answer Representative Rudy Yakim's question
about how many park police officers were on site during the anti-Israel protest.
Here's the exchange between Yaquim and Charles Kuvilir,
the associate director of visitor and resource protection for the National Parks Service.
Mr. Coovalier, why did the U.S. Park Police only have 29 officers to monitor what was expected to be a 5,000 person protest?
Thank you for the question, sir. In our planning for the event, it was considered a full force commitment.
We committed 174 officers of the force to participate in the event, and we're assigned various duties and responsibilities with a permitted activity.
A full force commitment means we ask officers to surrender their days off or time off,
and I want to commend all the force who consistently do this to provide for the number of First Amendment
or other special events that occur within the National Capital Region.
But in fact, we had 174 personnel committed to the event.
So you had 174 personnel actually on site?
They were assigned a number of different functions within the planning cycle for the entire length and physical footprint.
But with the 5,000 people actually on site, how many officers were on site to protect the nation's capital at Union Station?
Again, sir, we had 174 personnel assigned to the event within the parameters of the permit geographic location.
The permit incurred a number of streets, sidewalks, as well as Columbus Circle.
Then in particular, we included our specialized units such as the Civil Disturbance Unit,
and other resources as part of that event.
But where things were actually going wrong on site at Union Station,
how many officers were on site at Union Station
where our American flag was torn down and burnt to the ground?
Sir, I'm trying to my best to answer your question.
Republican Representative Paul Gosar from Arizona,
who is chairman of the subcommittee,
said it is unsurprising that the anti-Israel protest turned violent,
leading the National Park Service to revoke the Act Now to Stop Ward in Racism
or Answer Coalition's permit for the event.
The Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on mass deportations of illegal immigrants this morning.
Patty Morin, whose daughter, a mother of five, was tragically raped and murdered by an illegal immigrant,
testified during the hearing, which was run by the Democrat majority.
They titled it, How Mass Deportations Will Separate American Families,
harm our armed forces and devastate our economy.
Here's Moran's heartbreaking testimony.
When I went to meet with a detective,
when we had come back from Kentucky,
I was told that she was beaten so badly
that her body was blanketed and bruises,
that she was strangled, that she was raped,
and that she was stuffed into a drain pipe.
The person that they alleged did this was an illegal immigrant from El Salvador that was a gotaway.
He had already, they already had an interval warrant for him in El Salvador for murdering a woman.
He had attacked a nine-year-old and her mother in California, and he waited on the trail that day that our family has walked for 25 years and snapped, dragged,
My daughter off the trail and did these horrendous, brutal things.
Ranking member on the committee, Republican Lindsey Graham, questioned immigration expert Art Arthur on the last four years immigration crisis.
Here's a little bit of that exchange.
Mr. Arthur, would you describe the last four years as mass illegal immigration coming to our borders?
I believe that that's fair characterization, Senator.
Does anybody disagree that the last four years has resolved?
resulted in mass illegal immigration directed toward America.
Because if this is not mass, what the hell would be.
Now, how do you answer mass illegal immigration?
You start enforcing the laws, Ms. Moran said,
and you start sending people back who've had their day in court.
You can't answer the question, and I respect you.
You've been able to take the opportunity to make something of yourself,
but we're passing on just constant disorder.
If you can't say you should be deported,
you should be deported after you've had a full hearing.
Everything been available to and you lose,
and it's hard to say you need to go.
We don't have an immigration system.
The Daily Signals, Virginia Allen, spoke today to Senator Ted Cruz
to discuss President-elect Donald Trump's mass deportation plans.
Virginia, what does Senator Cruz say?
Well, the first thing that I asked the senator
was, will every single illegal alien who entered the country
under the Biden-Harris administration be deported?
And he said, ultimately, you know, that's really up to the Trump administration to decide who, how many are deported.
And there's also just a logistical factor there that at the end of the day, deporting 10 million people might not be possible just strictly speaking about the logistics.
What Senator Cruz was very clear on and what Trump and incoming borders are Tom Holman have been very clear on is that they will prioritize the deportation of criminal illegal aliens.
And stories like Rachel Morins really highlights that.
there will be top priority, will be removing those in the United States who are here illegally,
who have a criminal history. And this is something that should be, and in some cases, is bipartisan.
Both Democrats and Republicans can agree we should not have individuals in the United States with a
criminal record who are already here illegally. That's a crime in and of itself on top of posing
a threat to American citizens. Israel confirmed it has attacked Syria's naval fleet over
the past few days. According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, there have been
more than 300 strikes by the Israeli defense forces since the fall of the Assad regime on Sunday.
Israel's defense minister, Israel Katz, said the IDF was aiming to destroy strategic capabilities
that threatened the state of Israel. Katz said the Israeli Navy successfully destroyed the Syrian fleet
overnight. He said he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu directed the Israeli military to establish
a sterile defense zone in southern Israel to prevent the entrenchment and organization of terror there.
Here's Netanyahu talking about what the fall of Assad means for Israel.
But it also means we have to take action against possible threats.
One of them is the collapse of the separation of forces agreement from 1974 between Israel and Syria.
This agreement held for 50 years.
Last night it collapsed.
The Syrian army abandoned its positions.
We gave the Israeli army the order to take.
over this positions to ensure that no hostile force embeds itself right next to the border of Israel.
This is a temporary defensive position until a suitable arrangement is found.
Equally, we send a hand of peace to all those beyond our border in Syria.
While Netanyahu said Israel would not get involved in Syria's internal affairs,
he said Israel is determined to protect itself.
Now for our quick news hits, a jury found Daniel Penny not guilty of,
of criminally negligent homicide after he held 30-year-old homeless man Jordan Neely in a chokehold
to protect surrounding passengers who Neely was threatening on a subway train in May 23.
Now, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas is calling on Daniel Penny to go after Manhattan District Attorney
Alvin Bragg for malicious prosecution.
Cruz said in a statement, Alvin Bragg is an absolute catastrophe.
First he indicted Donald Trump in a partisan case and then he indicted Daniel Penny for saving
the lives of other subway passengers from a deranged lunatic threatening to kill everyone.
Next up, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning of the rise of a drug
deadlier than fentanyl. Car fentanyl, an altered version of fentanyl, is said to be 100 times more
potent. Deaths from car fentanyl rose by more than 700% in the past year. For our next quick hit,
political news outlet Axios reported that Washington, D.C. area women are allegedly rushing
to get IUDs and other forms of contraception before the Trump inauguration on January 20th,
though the Trump campaign has long stated that it wouldn't touch contraception access.
Some women say they are motivated by concerns that Republicans will limit abortion,
but abortion is legal up to birth in D.C.
Trump spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said that Trump has long been consistent in supporting
the rights of states and the District of Columbia to make decisions on abortion.
That's all for this episode of the Daily Signals Top News in 10.
Thank you so much for tuning in today and we'll be back with you tomorrow at 5 p.m.
Have a wonderful night.
