Kamala Harris made her closing argument yesterday night.
I'm Elizabeth Mitchell, and this is the Daily Signal Top News for Wednesday, October 30th.
Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for president, gave her closing argument speech for the 2024 presidential election at the ellipse by the White House Tuesday night.
This is the same location former President Donald Trump spoke at on January 6, 2021, before a mob of his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol.
Harris repeatedly condemned Trump, attempting to define herself as different from President Joe Biden.
She presented herself as a conciliator.
Kamala Harris suggested Trump treats immigration as an issue to scare up votes in an election, not a serious issue.
She pledged to sign the Biden-backed bill Trump opposed earlier this year and pledged to create an earned path to citizenship for hardworking immigrants.
Politicians have got to stop treating immigration as an issue to scare up votes in an election.
And instead treat it as the serious challenge that it is that we must finally come together to solve.
I will work with Democrats and Republicans to sign into law the border security bill that Donald Trump killed.
When I was Attorney General of a border state, I saw the chaos.
and violence caused by transnational criminal organizations that I took on.
And when I am president, we will quickly remove those who arrive here unlawfully, prosecute
the cartels, and give border patrol the support they so desperately need.
At the same time, we must acknowledge we are a nation of immigrants.
Congress to pass immigration reform, including an earned path to
citizenship for hardworking immigrants.
She also pledged to listen to people who disagree with her.
I pledge to listen to experts.
I pledge to listen to experts to those who will be impacted by the decisions I make and to people
who disagree with me.
Unlike Donald Trump, I don't believe people who disagree with me are the enemy.
He wants to put them in jail.
I'll give them a seat at the table.
The Daily Signals, Elise McHugh, went to the rally yesterday to talk to Harris supporters.
Thanks for joining us.
Thanks for having me.
Elise, what did you learn last night?
I learned that the general population is quite unfamiliar with how to operate a news app.
I was at the rally. Kamala Harris got up there, extremely joyful.
Beyonce was blaring.
Everyone was shouting, screaming, so excited.
She opens her mouth and it's, I don't even remember, 20, 30 minutes felt like a lifetime of lie after lie after lie.
It wasn't even a truth that was construed to be very radical or very strong.
It was straight up for things that were not correct.
But oddly enough, every single time a lie was spoken, the crowd was roaring and applause and cheering and it just really made you think, man, nobody fact checks anything that these politicians are telling us.
them. That's really interesting. Did we get any word salad? Oh yeah. We definitely got some word salad,
but she was aided by her teleprompter, so it wasn't terrible. Excellent, excellent. So you were out
in the field talking to people there and you were asking them why they support Harris, what they
like about Harris so far, what they'd be excited about for Harris presidency. What kind of answers did
you get? Well, first off, when we asked people what they thought was her greatest achievement over
the past four years, the default answer was either she's the vice president. So she just supports
Biden and actually she doesn't do anything so do your research better on that question which was
quite rude. I'm the interviewer. They shouldn't be asking me those questions or saying that she
voted on a lot of tie-breaking bills in the Senate. It really didn't go deeper than that and it honestly
kind of felt like they were emailed a list in the morning of here's what you're going to say about
what you like about Kamala Harris, what you think she's going to do well. And it was just the same three
answers between the dozens of people we talk to. It's been said that Harris has been running a
campaign of vibes. How were the vibes last night? You know, the vibes were quite joyful? I will say
the vibes were quite joyful, but not quite optimistic, but out of desperation, I would say,
because she was up there. She was talking about her vision for America in the future, but she kept
coming back to Donald Trump and why it's so existential to our country that he's not elected. And then when we
talk to people afterwards. They were talking about how existential it was that Kamala Harris is
the candidate. So the happiness and the hope was more so derived from, oh my gosh, we can't let
this guy near the presidency because of some lie or some quote unquote fascism that he did.
Excellent. Well, thanks so much for attending that last night and for talking to us about it.
My pleasure.
Biden called Trump supporters garbage on Tuesday.
Here he is.
Or Puerto Rico where I'm in my home state of Delaware, they're good, decent, honorable people.
The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.
His demonization has seen as unconscionable.
And it's un-American.
This shocking statement comes after comedian Tony Hinchcliff of the Kill Tony podcast,
jokingly called Puerto Rico a floating pile of trash.
in opening remarks at Trump's Sunday rally in Madison Square Garden.
Danielle Alvarez, Trump campaign senior advisor, said in a statement that this joke does not reflect
the views of President Trump or the campaign.
After backlash from Republicans about his statement, Biden sought to reframe his comments.
Biden posted on X.
Earlier today, I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump's supporters
at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage, which is the only word I can think of to
describe it. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That's all I meant to say. The comments at that
rally don't reflect who we are as a nation. The Trump campaign was quick to condemn Biden's comments
Tuesday night. Caroline Leavitt, National Press Secretary for the Trump campaign, said in a statement,
there's no way to spin it. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris don't just hate President Trump. They despise
the tens of millions of Americans who support him. Trump supporters, ranging from elected lawmakers to
social media influencers turned to X to lambast Biden for insulting millions of Americans.
Biden's comments drew comparisons of him to Trump's 2016 opponent Hillary Clinton, who called
Trump supporters deplorables.
Senator J.D. Vance told the Daily Signal, transgender medical interventions for minors are
crazy at a rally in Holland, Michigan on Tuesday. Here he is.
I think sex changes for minors permanently altering either chemically.
or surgically the body of a young child is crazy.
I can't believe that we do this.
I really can't.
And I think it's so sad for these poor kids who, you know,
they're teenagers, their adolescents, maybe some of them, you know,
in really bizarre cases are even pre-teens.
We used to in this country recognize that adolescence was a tough time to grow up,
that we try to encourage people to accept themselves,
now you have some very sick people who, when an adolescent is struggling with a problem,
they say, no, don't accept yourself. Go and surgically alter yourself. I think that's an insane
way to talk to our young people, and we ought to stop doing it. Vance spoke at a rally outside
conservative stronghold Holland, Michigan on Tuesday afternoon, a week before election day.
One of the most hotly contested swing states, with its 15 electoral college votes, Michigan may
determine the outcome of the 2024 president.
election. Vance said it is disgraceful that the Harris Walls campaign branded Trump in his supporters
as Nazis after Sunday's Madison Square Garden rally. He said, I don't care that Kamala Harris and
Tim Walls attacked me and I don't care that they criticize us for this policy or that policy,
but I think it is disgraceful for a person who wants to lead this great nation to call half of her
fellow citizens Nazis because she disagrees with their policy. He took issue with Harris likening Trump to
Hitler and calling him a fascist.
Here's Vance.
Even though accepted the democratic domination in Madison Square Gardens,
when a bunch of people who just want to close down the border and get back to affordable
prices, gather to celebrate the future of our country, they called us literal Nazis.
That is the Kamala Harris strategy down the stretch.
Vance said the Kamala Harris slogan should be,
Nothing comes to mind, referencing Harris's omission that there is nothing that comes to
mind that she would do differently than President Joe Biden. Vance said a theme of the Trump campaign
is that Biden Harris broke it and Trump can fix it. Now for today's quick hits, where we share a brief
rundown of other top news of the day. We are about a week from the election and many Muslim
Americans in Dearborn Michigan say they are unsure how they will cast their votes. Some proudly told
me they voted for former President Donald Trump, while others said they hoped to make a statement on the
Israel Hamas conflict by voting for Green Party candidate and avid Palestine supporter Jill Stein.
Next up, the Supreme Court granted an emergency stay allowing Virginia to keep aliens off the voter
rules. Liberal justices Sotomayor, Kagan, and Jackson all opposed the stay.
And that's it for today's episode of The Daily Signal, top news. Thanks for listening to this episode
