The acting director of the Secret Service says his agency is responsible for the security failure
that led to the assassination attempt on Trump. I'm Virginia Allen and this is the Daily
Top News for Tuesday, July 30th. The acting director of the United States Secret Service
Ronald Road Jr. and deputy director of the FBI, Paul Abate, testified before members of
the Senate today. One of the big questions that lawmakers and the American
people have sought to know is who failed to protect the president on July 13th, the day of the
assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump. After Director Kimberly Cheeto resigned, Roe
sought to answer these questions today as the acting director before members of the Senate.
The acting head of the Secret Service did tell the committee members today that the assassination
attempt on Trump was a failure of the Secret Service and not local law.
enforcement. Roe was critical of the Secret Service and made clear that the shooting should never
have happened. He also told members of the Senate Judiciary and Homeland Security Governmental
Affairs committees that all additional requests being made to the Secret Service for additional
personnel are being granted right now given the heightened security levels. And he committed
to Secret Service members being held accountable for any failure to follow protocols at the Trump
rally per PBS news.
I've heard your calls for accountability, and I take them very seriously.
And given the magnitude of this failure, the Secret Service's Office of Professional
Responsibility is reviewing the actions and decision-making of Secret Service personnel in
the lead-up to and on the day of the attack.
If this investigation reveals that Secret Service employees violated agency protocols,
those employees will be held accountable to our disciplinary process.
process. One piece of new information that came out of Tuesday's hearing was in regards to the
shooter's possible motive. FBI deputy director Paul Abate told the senators that a social media
account that is believed to be associated with the shooter may explain some of the shooter's
possible motives per Fox 17. Something just very recently uncovered that I want to share is a social
media account, which is believed to be associated with the shooter in about the 2019-2020
time frame. There were over 700 comments posted from this account. Some of these comments, if
ultimately attributable to the shooter, appear to reflect anti-Semitic and anti-immigration themes
to espouse political violence and are described as extreme in nature. While the investigative
team is still working to verify this account to determine if it did in fact belong to the shooter.
We believe it important to share and note it today, particularly given the general absence
of other information to date from social media and other sources of information that reflect
on the shooter's potential motive and mindset.

Tension is high in Venezuela following the 11th.
elections over the weekend. Venezuelan election officials have claimed that incumbent socialist
president Nicolas Maduro has won re-election, but exit polls tell a very different story. The U.S.
and other nations have questioned Maduro being the true winner, and now protests have broken
out across the country, a former Venezuelan diplomat on the United Nations Security Council.
Isaiah Medina III told Fox News that the protests represent a remarkable display of Unisraeli
and defiance against Maduro and his oppressive authoritarian rule. Medina said,
spontaneous marches flood the streets as citizens fervently plead for liberty and the chance
to rebuild a nation where families can reunite in prosperity.
Multiple protesters have reportedly been killed since the protests erupted on Monday,
and the opposition candidate was Edmundo Gonzalez and protesters claimed that he is the rightful winner.
$15,000 a year.
The Competitive Enterprise Institute released this report today and here with us to talk more about the findings in this report and her coverage of it is the Daily Signal's Elizabeth Mitchell.
Elizabeth, thanks for being here.
Thanks, Virginia.
So $15,000 per year.
That is a lot of money.
What exactly are these hidden regulatory costs?
So these are taxes that the average American household is paying.
And as you said, it's gotten up to an.
average of $15,788 per year. So that's very significant for American families. That is very significant.
Elizabeth, you spoke with Clyde Wayne Cruz. He's the one who authored this report from the competitive
Enterprise Institute. What exactly did he say in regards to the increase in regulations specifically
under the Biden administration? Well, the way Cruz put it to me was that Biden can be seen as the
Edward Scissorhands of regulatory disclosure. He said that,
that not only did Biden end the one in two-out cost freeze for regulations and eliminate a portal
revealing hidden regulatory matter, but his 23 executive order raised the threshold for rules
that are considered significant enough to warrant extra scrutiny from $100 million to $200 million.
This is different than past administrations.
So what is the difference here in what we have seen from the Biden administration versus
previous administrations in this increase of cost around regulatory. So over the past few years,
the Biden administration has averaged 870 rules affecting small businesses, while the Obama
administration averaged 694 and President Trump had 701. So a lot more rules affecting small
businesses. The Biden administration has also issued a lot more rules affecting state governments
and local governments, that's 507 for state governments and 340 for local governments,
both of those larger than the Obama and Trump administrations.
Wow. All right. Well, Elizabeth, thank you for your reporting on this.
You can check out today's show notes for a link to Elizabeth's full report, but we appreciate your time here.
Thank you so much, Virginia.
If you live in San Francisco, you might get paid to stay sober.
The Daily Caller News Foundation reports that the Democrat mayor of San Francisco,
London Breed and San Francisco Board of Supervisors member, Matt Dorsey, have introduced a program
called Cash, not Drugs. If the program was approved, welfare recipients would receive $100
after testing negative on a weekly drug test. In addition to being on welfare, someone would
have to have a substance abuse disorder and volunteer to take weekly drug tests in order to qualify
for the program. The mayor said she wants to make it just as easy to get a child.
treatment as it is to go out there and buy dope. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that money
would be distributed via a gift card or electronic benefit transfer. If the San Francisco Board
of Supervisors does approve the program, it will be launched as a three-year program.
With that, that's going to do it for today's episode. Thanks so much for joining us here on the Daily
