The U.S. is sending more troops to the Middle East as Israel continues to eliminate top terrorist leaders.
I'm Virginia Allen, and this is the Daily Signal Top News for Monday, September 30th.
Israel carried out a strike in Beirut this morning that left Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah dead.
In just over the last 10 days, Israel has carried out strikes that have killed seven top Hezbollah leaders.
The strike that killed Nasrallah today was the first strike that Israel carried out on central.
Beirut in about a year. The strike was highly targeted, hitting one apartment in a multi-story unit.
Hezbollah's deputy chief, Sheikh Named Qasam, said today that Israel has not taken out
Hezbollah's military capabilities. He also said that Hezbollah will continue to fight against Israel.
The IDF also announced today that they carried out a successful operation that killed two top leaders
of the Lebanon branch of the terrorist group known as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
Israel also announced today that the head of the Lebanon branch of the Hamas terrorist organization,
Fatah Sharif, was also eliminated in a strike.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a video speaking directly to the Iranian people
in an appeal to stand against terrorism. Take a listen.
Every day, you see a regime that,
subjugates you, make fiery speeches about defending Lebanon, defending Gaza. Yet every
day that regime plunges our region deeper into darkness and deeper into war. Every day,
their puppets are eliminated. Ask Muhammad Dev. Ask Nasrallah. There is nowhere in the Middle
East Israel cannot reach. There is nowhere we will not go to protect our people and protect
our country.
With every passing moment, the regime is bringing you the noble Persian people closer to the abyss.
The vast majority of Iranians know their regime doesn't care a whit about them.
If it did care, if it cared about you, it would stop wasting billions of dollars on futile wars across the Middle East.
Netanyahu went on to say that when Iran is finally free, the Jewish people and the Persian people will be at first.
peace. A full-out war in the Middle East is still a major concern, and the Biden administration
is working to prevent further escalation. Biden spoke to reporters on Sunday and said that a
full-scale war in the Middle East must be avoided. The Pentagon, they announced today that they
are sending additional troops, an additional few thousand troops to the Middle East, in order to
bolster security. This will bring the U.S. total of troops in the Middle East to as many as 43,000.
Hurricane Helene has left at least 121 people dead across the southeast.
The hurricane first hit Florida on Thursday as a category four.
Some of the worst devastation was felt inland, however, in Asheville, North Carolina.
Flash flooding, destroyed roads, and swept cars, and even entire homes away.
Nearly 6,000 National Guard members have been mobilized to help rescue people and assist with the cleanup across the southeast.
Former President Donald Trump visited Valdas to Georgia to tour the damage there today.
He told reporters that the federal government is not being responsive following the storm.
Federal government is not being responsive.
They're having a very hard time getting the president on the phone.
He won't get on it.
Of course, the vice president, he's out someplace campaigning.
Governor is doing a good job and he's having a hard time.
President Biden has addressed the devastation.
He spoke to reporters on Sunday and said the federal government has provided significant resources to address the damage.
It's tragic. As a matter of fact, we're trying to get the exact number.
My FEMA advisors on the ground in Florida right now is a distinction between the numbers that FEMA's used and the ones that are used by the locals.
So it's really is amazing.
You saw the photographs.
It's stunning.
It's so many.
So many, such a wide area.
And we've given them all the, everything that we have, we're on the ground ahead of time.
So we're working hard.
Biden says he will visit the affected areas when a visit does not disrupt rescue and recovery efforts.
And the White House said the same was true of Vice President Kamala Harris.
There's a new drug problem in the U.S.
There resembles that created by the Mexican drug cartels.
But this is a crisis of the abortion pill, according to reporting from the Washington Stand.
The American Life League has published a new study that concludes that the abortion pill network now resembles the drug cartel,
creating an abortion pill crisis similar to our nation's narcotics crisis.
Abortion pill companies are shipping the drugs into states that have tighter restrictions on abortion.
The Washington Stand reports that the abortion pill cartels operates using community,
partner networks. These are groups of volunteers who help women in the U.S. order abortion pills
from foreign countries and then ship them those drugs. These community partner networks encourage
women to ask for abortion pills using secure networks and unhackable email accounts in order to
evade prosecution. Because the FDA does allow abortion pills to be delivered via mail,
this creates a network that is very hard to regulate. If you want to dive deep into the
this full study and report, you can check out the link in today's show notes.
Speaking of studies, a new study has found that there is a difference between what Americans
claim to believe publicly on political issues and what they really feel. The Massachusetts-based
think tank, Populus, conducted the research as part of their first social pressure index.
Populus found that 58 and every 100 Americans think that most people cannot share their honest
opinions about sensitive topics. And in the last year alone, 61 in every 100 Americans reported that
they have avoided saying things that they believe because others might find them offensive.
The study found that college graduates and political independence are the two groups that
self-silence the most often. Again, that link is in today's show notes if you want to dive
a little bit deeper into the findings of this study.
The 2024 vice presidential candidates are facing off on the debate stage tomorrow night.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walls and Ohio Senator J.D. Vance will take to the debate stage in New York City at 9 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday.
CBS Evening News is hosting the 90-minute debate.
The rules are a little bit different from the last presidential debate.
The mics will be live during the full debate, meaning that microphones will not be automatically muted when a candidate's time to
speak ends, but mics can be muted at the discretion of the moderators. Vance and Walls will
have a pen and paper at their podium, but their staff will not be allowed to interact with them
during the two commercial breaks. Daily Signal Political Editor Bradley Devlin joins us now for a little
bit of a preview. Bradley, thanks for being here. Thank you. Okay, so let's talk first about the
significance of a vice presidential debate. Do any American voters actually make up their mind about which
candidate they're going to support after watching a vice presidential debate? I don't know.
how much the needle can move with any debate anymore, since we have such a turnout-based
election system. That said, these two men are not used to having the national scrutiny
that follows a presidential campaign. J.D. Vance obviously came to Washington, D.C., only in
2022, and Tim Walz has been a popular Midwestern governor, not in the national spotlight,
really. Even when he was a member of the House, he wasn't one of the folks on the front lines
necessarily in the Democratic Party.
So, or anywhere during his time in military service, he wasn't on the front lines.
We'll leave that there.
Yeah, so this is a chance for them to make a name for themselves on the national stage.
It is a opportunity for not only themselves, but also to brand the other candidate as,
in Vance's case, he's going to attempt to brand walls as dangerously liberal,
expose the record that he's had in Minnesota, and connect that record, of course,
to Vice President Harris's current plans and the things that the Biden administration and the Harris
administration have done over the past three and a half years. If he can do that, then I think
J.D. Vance will be in a good position. And of course, Walls is going to try to brush past Vance
as quickly as possible and connect him to Donald Trump and the four years of Trump's tenure, which Democrats
believe was incredibly weak, though you see Democrats, you know, attack.
Trump over the border and the Trump economy, the voters trust Trump more, it seems, from
public polling on the economy and on immigration to the main issues this election cycle.
What is one question that the moderators should ask Walls and one question they should
ask Vance?
I think if for Walls, let's go to Walls first, I would ask Tim Walls about Joe Biden's
decline in departure very directly.
I don't think the American people have had any answers.
On that question, Kamala Harris makes a joke of it when she's on the campaign trail.
Well, clearly, I'm not Joe Biden.
Yet everyone knows, and you haven't received a single vote for president yet, and yet you're
on the ticket, and you're very close to becoming the president of the United States.
So really, what did Harris know about Joe Biden's decline?
What did Harris know about Joe Biden's departure?
And, of course, I don't think Tim Walls will be forthcoming about that, but it'll be at least
interesting to see how he would pivot if they were asking him that question.
As for J.D. Vance, I think the number one question, of course, he's addressed this multiple times,
but I think the number one question that independent voters have is you said some things about Trump in 2016
that were not pro-Trump, that were almost anti-Trump, very anti-Trump in some respects.
And, you know, what caused you to change your mind? And I think, I think Vance has tried to answer that question on the campaign trail,
but I think it's important at this stage with the audience they'll have listening to them on Tuesday night.
I think it's important for fans to get asked that question yet again.
Yeah.
Well, Bradley, thank you.
We look forward to your analysis post-debate, but appreciate your time today.
Thanks.
