Starting point is 00:00:00 The House of Representatives passes a continuing resolution with a breakaway Democrat vote. Ukraine agrees to Secretary Rubio's historic ceasefire plan, egg and gas prices drop, and trans problems plague the Democrats. I'm Tony Kinnett from the Daily Signals Tony Kinnett cast, syndicated nationally at 7 p.m. Eastern. It is Wednesday, March 12, 2025. This is the Daily Signals, top news in 10. The Republican House of Representatives narrowly avoided condemnation and responsibility of an
Starting point is 00:00:33 expected government shut down on Friday by passing a continuing resolution with 217 votes in the affirmative to 213 against, which funds the federal government through September and then passing that bill over to Senate. Despite the Republican majority, the Democrats will have the opportunity to filibuster this. There's a 60 vote threshold that is needed, and Democrats have been singing high and low about these expected funding cuts in the continuing resolution for things like Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security. Here's Speaker Johnson addressing that particular bit of information. They either have an issue with reading comprehension,
Starting point is 00:01:09 or they are attempting to run one of the most shameful misinformation campaigns that we've ever seen in our lives. We filed that the CR, the continued resolution on Saturday. And as was noted, they had already come out panning the bill that literally had not yet been seen. They said, quote, this is the House of, Democrat leadership team's statement on Friday, remember the bill was filed on Saturday afternoon. On Friday they said, quote, Republicans have decided to introduce a partisan continuing resolution that threatens to cut funding for health care, nutritional assistance, and veterans benefits through
Starting point is 00:01:47 the end of the year. Every single word of that is a lie. Every single way, they just made it up. While it was expected that Representative Thomas Massey, Republican of Kentucky, would vote against the continuing resolution because he said it didn't cut enough federal spending, many were surprised to see Representative Jared Golden, a Democrat from Maine's second congressional vote in favor of the continuing resolution, a very rare break from minority leader Hakeem Jeffrey's rank and file of House Democrats. And Representative Golden, after quite a bit of criticism, released an online statement on X, a thread explaining why he voted in favor of the continuing resolution. He said, quote, I just voted to pass a continuing resolution and avoid a government
Starting point is 00:02:28 shutdown. Here's a short thread to explain why. This CR is not perfect, but a shutdown would be even worse. Even a brief shutdown would introduce even more chaos and uncertainty at a time when our country can ill afford it. Funding the government is our most basic obligation as members of Congress. My vote today reflects my commitment to making tough choices and doing my job for the people of Maine. He then lists several provisions that he believes the CR includes that people in Maine can celebrate, including billions for the construction of a U.S. Naval Destroyer at the Bath Iron Works, funding to provide junior enlisted members of the armed services their biggest pay raise in 40 years,
Starting point is 00:03:03 increased funding for Immigration Customs Enforcement and Transportation Security Administration Services, increased funding for disaster relief for operational expenses at national parks, extended telehealth flexibility for Medicare, advanced funding for state Medicaid grants and aging and disability services programs. He then finishes by clipping back at House Democrats. To be clear, this CR is not one that I would have written, But elections have consequences. I am disappointed by messaging gimmicks from some in my party,
Starting point is 00:03:33 particularly the untrue claim that this CR cuts veteran services. The truth is, there are no cuts to veterans' care in the period covered by the CR, and we have six months to ensure funding continues in the next fiscal year. To say it contains cuts is, at best, a misreading that creates unnecessary fear among veterans. In a major win for the Trump administration, Ukraine has agreed to an immediate interim 30-day ceasefire if Russia agrees to the ceasefire first. This is a deal proposed by Marco Rubio. The United States upon Ukraine's agreement to this proposed ceasefire immediately lifted the pause on intelligence sharing
Starting point is 00:04:14 and looks to restart security assistance to Ukraine were the ceasefire to take place. Rubio stated, the best goodwill gesture the Russians can provide is to say yes, to say yes to the offer, that the Ukrainians have made to stop the shooting, to stop the fighting, and to get to the table. Russia as the aggressor in this war and the power that is currently winning in the Russo-Ukrainian conflict would need to agree to the ceasefire first because Russia is the power making the advancements into Ukrainian territory. Here's President Trump commenting about Secretary Rubio's deal, which Ukraine accepted. But very importantly, and I said it, Ukraine, ceasefire. Ukraine, ceasefire. Just agreed to a little while ago. Now we have to go to Russia and hopefully
Starting point is 00:05:01 President Putin will agree to that also. And we can get this show on the road. We can get, we can get this horrible war where two, three thousand soldiers a week, every week, two, three, four thousand sometimes. I get the reports. And they're not American soldiers. They're Ukrainian and they're Russian. But people are being killed outside of that. People are being killed in the cities as things explode throughout the cities. And we want to get that war over with. So I think it's a very big, I think it's a big difference between the last visit
Starting point is 00:05:35 you saw at the Oval Office and the soap. That's a total ceasefire. Ukraine has agreed to it, and hopefully Russia will agree to it. We're going to meet with them later on today and tomorrow, and hopefully we'll be able to wipe out a deal. But I think the ceasefire is very important. If we can get Russia to do it,
Starting point is 00:05:53 That'll be great. If we can't, we just keep going on and people are going to get killed. Lots of people. Meanwhile, economic statistics indicate that egg prices per dozen as well as the annual national average cost of gas per gallon are dropping in the United States. Right now, the average price for a dozen eggs in the United States has dipped down to $6.37-ish cents. This is down from the high of over $8 a dozen eggs back at the beginning of March. Additionally, the annual national average cost of gas per gallon is at its lowest since 2021, currently sitting at just $3.9 a gallon, which is down from its high over the last four years, at $3.98 a gallon back in 2022. Despite the chaotic news cycle regarding both the economy and international situations,
Starting point is 00:06:46 Democrats appeared to have their PR sites set on LGBT-plus issues, specifically trans activism. Bernie Sanders, Senator from Vermont, in his Stop the Oligarchy series of rallies across the country, stopped in Kenosha to do one of his anti-capitalist rallies, and opened with a male singer going by the name of Laura Jane Grace, singing a rather perverse and blasphemous song that received quite a bit of scorn. We had Stephen Kent from the Consumer Choice Center on last night to talk a little bit more about this particular disturbing video, which he helped break and spread awareness up. Check it out. I wanted to let the public know that Bernie Sanders thanked this person for performing at the beginning of his rally,
Starting point is 00:07:45 at the expense of the children in his audience, the women in his audience, there were tons of Muslim women in his job at this rally. Those with ears in his audience who had to listen to this abomination? I would qualify that. You know, it's just sort of a sign of our post-shame political order right now. The clinging to trans activism isn't only limited to the Senate Democrats, the House Democrats, are currently going through that particular PR nightmare as well. The House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe was adjourned a little abruptly today
Starting point is 00:08:23 after Representative Keith Self, Republican from Texas, got into a spat with Representative Sarah McBride, Democrat from Delaware, and Representative Bill Keating, Democrat from Massachusetts, over whether or not Representative Self was going to call transgender Sarah McBride a female or a male. I now recognize the representative from Delaware, Mr. McBride. Thank you, Madam Chair. Ranking Member Keating also wonderful. Mr. Chairman, could you repeat your introduction again, please? Yes, it's a, we have set the standard on the floor of the House, and I'm simply What is that standard, Mr. Chairman?
Starting point is 00:09:07 Would you repeat what you just said when you introduced a duly elected representative from the United States of America? States of America, please. I will. The representative from Delaware, Mr. McBride. Mr. Chairman, you are out of order. Mr. Chairman, have you no decency? I mean, I've come to know you a little bit, but this is not decent. We will continue this hearing.
Starting point is 00:09:31 You will not continue it with me unless you introduce a duly elected representative the right way. This hearing is adjourned. The three gentlemen did not exchange any pleasantries or apologies afterward. afterward. Before you go, check the description below for the full interview with Stephen Kent and join us tonight at 7 p.m. Eastern for a deep dive on the inflation numbers, the consumer price index, and tariffs with E.J. Anthony of the Heritage Foundation. I'm Tony Kennett, and this has been The Daily Signals Top News in 10. Take care.
