India and Pakistan skirmish after Indian missile strikes against terror camp targets.
Canada's new Prime Minister Mark Carney visits with President Trump at the White House,
and Attorney General Pam Bondi coordinates the largest fentanyl bust in U.S. history.
I'm Tony Kennett of the Daily Signals Tony Kennett cast, syndicated nationally at 7 p.m. Eastern.
It is Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
This is the Daily Signal's top news in 10.
Following the brutal terror attack by Pakistani Islamic terrorists killing 26 in the Indian region of Kashmir,
India's military coordinated Operation Sindur, striking multiple targets within Pakistan,
hitting, quote, terror-linked infrastructure, end quote.
Pakistan has begun retaliating as of last night, shutting down its airspace.
Intense crossfire between India forces and Pakistani forces are being reported at the line of control.
targets source from several Indian media groups have suggested that there have been some
Indian fighter jets that have crashed.
Pakistani groups are suggesting that other kinds of fighter jets have crashed or are being
sorted.
So far, the information is not yet complete enough for us to give you a clear picture of the
over-skies view in India, beyond the point that all incoming flights to the Pakistani and
Northern India region have been canceled as of midnight last night. President Trump was asked about the
India-Pakistan situation developing as the strikes were taking place during a swearing-in ceremony at the
White House in the Oval Office yesterday. Here was the president's response.
No, it's a shame. We just heard about it just as we were walking in the doors of the Oval.
I just heard about it. I guess people knew something was going to happen.
based on a little bit of the past.
They've been fighting for a long time.
You know, they've been fighting for many, many decades.
And centuries, actually, if you really think about it.
No, I just hope it ends very quickly.
At 8.10 p.m. Eastern, Secretary of State and Acting National Security Advisor Marco Rubio posted,
I am monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan closely.
I echo the president's comments earlier today that this hopefully ends quickly and will continue
to engage both Indian and Pakistani leadership
towards a peaceful resolution.
The European Union and the Secretary General
of the United Nations
have also called for India and Pakistan
to de-escalate as quickly as possible.
A state of emergency has been declared.
All schools have been canceled today
in Pakistan's Punjab province.
And as of midnight last night,
the Associated Press reported eight deaths at least
due to the missile strikes.
Two deaths, one of a mother and of her daughter,
have been reported along the border skirmishes.
It is unclear yet what country these particular individuals were from
or whether or not the fullness of this information has yet been verified.
There are several major media outlets reporting this,
which is why we're conveying that to you.
Several news agencies also reported that Pakistan is under severe cyber attacks
since yesterday afternoon.
These cyber attacks didn't come in the form of crippling the power grid
or trying to take down certain communication infrastructure,
but instead, in a mass campaign to get Pakistani individuals seeking information about possible
incoming attacks from India, to click on malicious links, somewhat akin to the scam call centers
and fake tech centers that India is notorious for running.
Israel also leveled several Houthi targets yesterday, including ports on the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
Also, Israeli airstrikes hit the airport at Sana'a.
controlled by the Houthis.
The airstrikes leveled the airport.
This is, of course, in response to the ballistic missile strike
from Yemen Houthis into Israel
hitting outside the Ben-Gurian airport
just earlier this week.
Liberal Prime Minister of Canada,
Mark Carney joined the President of the United States
at the White House for some trade negotiations
in a meeting in front of press.
Carney drew a lot of criticism
from liberals in Canada
for what they saw as a diminutive performance
in front of the President of the United States
after an election bent solely on standing up to the President.
Mark, would you like to say a few words?
Thank you, Mr. President.
I'm on the edge of my seat, actually, for the big announcement.
But thank you for your hospitality
and above all for your leadership.
You're a transformational president,
the focus on the economy with a relentless focus on the American worker,
securing your borders,
providing, ending the scourge of fentanyl,
and other opioids and securing the world.
And I've been elected with my colleagues here,
with the help of my colleagues here, I'm going to spread the credit,
to transform Canada with a similar focus on the economy,
securing our borders, again on fentanyl,
much greater focus on defense and security,
securing the Arctic and developing the Arctic.
And the history of Canada and the US is we're stronger when we work together,
and there's many opportunities to work together.
And I look forward to, you know, addressing some of those issues that we have,
but also finding those areas of mutual cooperation so we can go forward.
That's great.
Very nice. Thank you very much.
It's very nice statement.
To be fair, Carney did try to put up a bit of a tough front
against the President of the United States by suggesting to the President
that Canada is not for sale, while at the same time complimenting the President
in kind of the classic sandwich approach.
A good thing with a bad thing followed by another good thing.
another good thing. Check it out.
As you know from real estate, there are some places that are never for sale.
That's true.
We're sitting in one right now, you know, Buckingham Palace that you visited as well.
That's true.
And having met with the owners of Canada over the course of the campaign last several months,
it's not for sale, won't be for sale ever.
But the opportunity is in the partnership and what we can build together.
We have done that in the past.
And part of that, as the president just said,
is with respect to our own security.
And my government is committed for a step change in our investment in Canadian security and our partnership.
And I'll say this as well, that the president has revitalized international security,
revitalized NATO and us playing our full weight in NATO, and that will be part of it.
The president responded, it's only a matter of time.
You consider what Mr. Carney just said, that Canada is not for sale.
Does this make the discussion a little more difficult to start on?
No, not at all.
No, not at all.
No, time, time will tell.
It's only time.
But I say, never say never.
I've had many, many things that were not doable and they ended up being doable.
And only doable in a very friendly way.
But if it's to everybody's benefit, you know, Canada loves us and we love Canada.
That's, I think, the number one thing that's important.
But we'll see.
I mean, over time, we'll see what happened.
The president did push back on the idea that a conversation later between Mark Carney and Trump
might result in lowering the tariffs.
No. Why not?
Just the way it is.
Trump suggested the reason was around the Canadian building of American automobiles and automobile parts,
as well as the creation of steel to be purchased by the United States,
which Trump referred to as a subsidization of the Canadian economy.
And lastly, Attorney General Pam
Bondi reported that the largest seizure of fentanyl in U.S. history took place in New Mexico
after a major operation between New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah state governments in
coordination with the Drug Enforcement Agency and other aspects of the DOJ.
This multi-agency operation led by DEA with our local state tribal and federal partners
targeted one of the largest and most dangerous drug trafficking and foreign terrorist organizations in our country.
The DEA seized 11.5 kilos of fentanyl, including an astounding, approximately 3 million fentanyl pills.
The largest seizure in our nation's history.
These are the pills in the bags right there.
The main bottom right, the head of this organization,
Sinaloa organization, here in the country illegally,
six of these guys and women here in the country illegally.
His name is Alberto Salazar Amaya.
He is the leader, and he was living in Salem, Oregon.
With him, they got millions of dollars cash,
but the drugs were in Albuquerque, Phoenix, and Utah.
That's how insulated these drug dealer cartel leaders make themselves.
Several major leaders in the Sinaloa cartel, the most ruthless and abusive cartel in existence,
were captured, along with $610,000 in cash, 49 firearms, including ghost guns and modified weapons,
396 kilograms of fentanyl pills, 11.5 kilograms of fentanyl powder, 1.5 kilograms of cocaine, 3.5
kilograms of heroin, 7 pounds of methamphetamine, and a Ford Raptor and a GMC Denali.
