Starting point is 00:00:00 Electronic devices are still blowing up on members of Hezbollah. I'm Elizabeth Mitchell, and this is the Daily Signal Top News for Thursday, September 19th. Electronic devices continue to blow up on members of the Iran-backed Lebanon-based Hezbollah terrorist group. On Tuesday, it was Pagers that exploded simultaneously, killing at least 12. On Wednesday, it was Waukee Talkies, according to Hezbollah sources, as reported by the Associated Press. According to the AP, 25 people were killed and more than 600 were wounded in Wednesday's attacks. A Hezbollah leader blamed the attacks on Israel and said in a televised speech that this was a declaration of war. While the Israeli defense force hasn't taken credit for the attacks, the Israeli defense minister did say on Wednesday that this was the start of a new phase of the war.
Starting point is 00:00:59 That new phase includes Israel's conventional military strikes with aircraft and artillery in southern Lebanon. So far, those strikes have not included Israel's ground forces, according to NBC News. The IDF has said that these attacks are meant to destroy the capabilities and infrastructure of Hezbollah. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Biden administration is concerned the escalation of attacks on Hezbollah and the inclusion of IDF ground troops in southern Lebanon could lead to a larger regional war that would include Iran. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a news conference in Egypt on Wednesday that it is imperative that all parties refrain from any actions that could escalate the conflict. A Media Research Center report on Wednesday highlighted strong media bias against former
Starting point is 00:01:44 President Donald Trump in the wake of the second attempt on his life in the 2024 election. According to MRC, in the first 72 hours after the attempted assassination took place on Sunday, coverage on ABC, CBS, and NBC was overwhelmingly negative toward the former president. The coverage was 95% negative and only five percent. percent positive. MRC concluded. This negative coverage included bashing Trump on a wide range of issues, but also criticizing him for his reaction to the assassination attempt. In the report, MRC pointed out some examples of this negative coverage. NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt criticized Trump over his rhetoric. Today's apparent assassination attempt comes amid increasingly
Starting point is 00:02:28 fierce rhetoric on the campaign trail itself. Mr. Trump is running mate JD Vance continue to make baseless claims about Haitian immigrants in Ohio. This weekend, there were new bomb threats in that town. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced Wednesday it will not be endorsing a candidate in this year's presidential election. It was considered shocking news given the union had only endorsed Democratic nominees since 1992. According to internal polls released by the Teamsters, a majority of its members support Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. The union's members favored Trump by 59.6% over Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris. She received 34% support from members.
Starting point is 00:03:15 A Teamster representative said, the union's extensive member polling showed no majority support for Vice President Harris and no universal support among the membership for President Trump. This is how leadership justified the non-endorsement. But this answer generated blowback. Critics of the decision on social media said that the union leadership was simply ignoring rank-and-file members. Trump said this is a big deal for him. Big difference in those big industrial states, do you think? You're going to make a difference? I think it will. Yeah, I think so. The teamsters carry a lot of weight. The Democrats cannot believe
Starting point is 00:03:48 that, and, you know, look, this is, it was always automatic that Democrats get the teamsters, and they said we won't endorse the Democrats this year. So that was an honor for me. Iranian hackers sought to give Joe Biden's presidential campaign information stolen from rival Donald Trump's campaign to interfere with the 2024 election. This is according to a report from the Associated Press. The emails from Iran contained an excerpt taken from stolen non-public material from former President Donald Trump's campaign as text in the emails, AP reported. The AP report said there is no evidence anyone from the Biden campaign accepted the information. The Kamala Harris campaign, according to AP, called the communications from Iran unwelcome and unacceptable malicious activity. The Trump campaign announced on August 10th that it had been hacked by Iranians and that what was stolen included sensitive internal documents.
Starting point is 00:04:44 Trump campaign National Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said this is further proof the Iranians are actively interfering in the election to help the Democratic nominee. A taxpayer-funded organization sent diversity, equity, and inclusion belonging. and kits to 300 daycares in Wisconsin, according to a report from the Federalist. According to the Federalist Joy Pullman, the kits included nearly two dozen identity politics books for toddlers, multicultural Play-Doh in six skin tones, a Chilean rainstick, and 12 diverse family structures posters from Kaplan Early Learning Company that depict homosexual couples with children. The materials included advocacy for transgenderism as well. It all came from the Wisconsin Early Childhood Association, according to a daycare owner interviewed by the Federalist.
Starting point is 00:05:34 The daycare owner, Elise Weigart, said she was initially excited to be receiving learning materials for children, but was shocked by the content and said it was sexually explicit. Weigart said in the interview with Pullman, children don't think of sex in terms of adult realities, not at all. This is why we call them innocent. They are sheltered from war and sexuality and all those complex issues. We protect them. Or so I thought. Who's really in control of Washington today? President Joe Biden yielded to pressure not to run for re-election, and that exposed that the commander-in-chief isn't really calling the shots.
Starting point is 00:06:10 According to Daily Signal managing editor Tyler O'Neill's new book, the ones truly calling the shots in Washington are a vast network of left-wing nonprofits, bankrolled by the left's dark money network. His new book, The Woktipus, The Dark Money Cabal, manipulating the federal government is available for pre-order on Amazon today. Tyler, could you please tell us about this book? Yeah, thanks so much for having me. So, yeah, this book is an attempt to expose the way that the government actually works.
Starting point is 00:06:41 So you remember we learned about the Constitution. It's nifty checks and balances in school. And in reality, our laws are actually passed through the administrative state. they write the regulations that really impact Americans' day-to-day lives, especially when you're trying to start a business, or in some cases, even every time you fill up at the gas pump, you are being impacted by the really woke regulations that the bureaucracy is putting out there.
Starting point is 00:07:17 And this is all based on old laws that Congress passed that essentially delegated all. of Congress's, not all of, but large parts of Congress's authority to make the laws in this country to bureaucratic agencies. And those agencies are working with these woke nonprofits where you see many bureaucrats go from the administrative state into one of these nonprofits and then back. And it's this vicious, you know, it's a revolving door. And then these interest groups, these pressure organizations,
Starting point is 00:07:54 right regulations that then get turned into policy in the federal government. And so, you know, Biden is essentially a figurehead for what's really going on in Washington where these pressure groups that are propped up by the elites, you know, the dark money elites who are funding them through the Open Society foundations that George Soros has created through the Tides Foundation, through these. different non-profits set up by Arabella advisors, the left has this huge amount of money that they just shovel into these groups and then these groups impact the administrative state. What are some of these groups we can read about in your book?
Starting point is 00:08:39 Yeah. So there are a lot of them. It will surprise no one that the Southern Poverty Law Center is one of the groups in my book. That is in a chapter about how these organizations, how what I call the woketopus is pressuring the federal government, federal agencies, law enforcement agencies, to go after conservatives. You have pro-lifers who are finding themselves disproportionately prosecuted by the DOJ and finding themselves in prison. And this really noxious idea that conservatives pose a domestic terror threat to our country is propped up by groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Starting point is 00:09:25 But there's also one of the groups is Demos. They wrote an elections executive order. I mean, they essentially wrote the order that Joe Biden himself ended up signing. And then not only did they write this order, but they also worked hand in glove with a whole bunch of different federal agencies to implement the order. And we have all this from FOIA documents. But, you know, it was, it's,
Starting point is 00:09:51 one organization after another. Another huge one is the Center for American Progress, whose founder John Podesta chaired Hillary Clinton's campaign. And now he is in the White House. He's directing billions of dollars in federal funding to green organizations, to green companies, to green nonprofits. He and, you know, I went through the White House visitor logs. He's meeting with a large section of people whose whole job is to redirect money to green initiatives. And so there's this money trail directly from, and it reminds me of what Kamala Harris said about the Inflation Reduction Act. She said this was the biggest investment in green infrastructure. You know, and it's like this is supposed to be about fighting inflation, but really it's about
Starting point is 00:10:50 propping up your green agenda. And that green slush fund goes through John Podesta to the groups that the left likes. Awesome.
