Former FBI director James Comey indicted on two counts by the Department of Justice.
New details emerge from the Dallas anti-ice terror attack, and senior Democrat officials
stop calling President Trump a fascist long enough to beg for a budget meeting with him.
I'm Tony Kennett, host of the Daily Signals Tony Kenned cast, syndicated nationally at 7 p.m. Eastern.
It is Friday, September 26, 2025.
This is the Daily Signals, top news in 10.
Yesterday evening, former FBI director James Comey was indicted on two counts, one for false statements or lying to Congress in 2020, and one for the obstruction of justice.
According to reporter Catherine Herridge, FBI leak investigation Tropic Vortex was a criminal referral.
The allegation therein that the disclosure of classified information to reporters was authorized by James Comey.
As FBI director at the time, Comey would have known whether or not his actions had violated 18 U.S. Code 1924,
which criminalizes mishandling classified documents.
When Comey was later asked about this leaking of classified documents that later found their way into the New York Times by the Senate Judiciary Committee,
Comey then allegedly said some things that were rather untrue.
According to Attorney General Pam Bondy, quote,
no one is above the law.
Today's indictment
reflects this Department of Justice
commitment to holding those
who abuse positions of power accountable
for misleading the American people.
We will follow the facts in this case, end quote.
And new details emerge from the anti-ice terror attack in Dallas
in which an individual shot up an ice facility
attempting to kill ICE officials,
but instead ended up killing at least one detainee,
injuring another, and then killed himself.
A slew of new updates came forward from
the FBI and from Texas officials yesterday, we went over to our senior reporter, Virginia Allen,
for a closer look at the latest. Let's hop right into it. There are some new details that are
arising again. We were told just 24 hours ago that we still couldn't really pin down the
motive. You know, there's really not a whole lot to see here. Well, you have some additional details to
us that really put that to the test. Yeah, that's right, Tony. This has been just a whirlwind,
24 hours, just over 24 hours of the FBI very rapidly doing what they can to investigate this tragic
shooting at an ICE facility in Dallas that left one detainee dead to others shot, wounded,
and critical condition. And this morning, we saw FBI director Cash Patel say, okay, so far,
this is what we've uncovered. This is, of course, an ongoing investigation. But what we know,
according to Patel, so far, is that the alleged shooter, the man who has found,
at that crime scene who had killed himself after carrying out this shooting, some really, really
disturbing facts. He had downloaded a document titled Dallas County Office of Homeland Security
and Emergency Management. So he was doing research on homeland security locations, facilities
within the Dallas area. And then he had also searched for ballistics and Charlie Kirk
shot video. Really disturbing. So he was someone who was watching that video of Charlie Kirk. We saw a
similar pattern in the Charlie Kirk suspected shooter had written messages on those casing shells. Well,
the same thing, casing shells for those bullets found near the suspected shooter. And the Dallas
ice shooting had written anti-ice on that casing. Furthermore, the suspected shooter had
search for apps that would track where ice agents were.
Oh, hang on.
Hang on a second here.
That is something that I have to pump the brakes on a little bit.
So remember, when certain national news outlets were advertising just a couple of weeks to go,
this app that would allow individuals to track ice, they were covering it.
There were all of these doxing websites that were popping up.
You, of course, have the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, who is calling for all individuals in immigration
in Border Patrol to be demasked, to have their faces and their identities, broadcast everywhere.
And here we have the guy that people counter to that point have suggested would arise,
those who are trying to use any information available to commit horrible acts of violence,
direct assassination, acts of terrorism against these agents using these kinds of apps and resources.
Yep, exactly. And this is something that DHS Secretary Christine Nome has been very clear on,
is you can't, for one, use this kind of aggressive language calling ICE agents Nazis and essentially
referring to them as thugs and then just expect that nothing bad is going to happen. This has been
an incident that has long been feared and tragically now has taken at least one life. And then
furthermore, Cash Patel said on X this morning that there was a hand,
written note that so far has been uncovered in this investigation, and that note reads,
hopefully this will give ICE agents real tear to think, is there a sniper with AP rounds on the roof?
So really disturbing that we have essentially a situation that appears to be unfolding that this
suspected shooter was indeed targeting ICE agents specifically.
And lastly, senior Democrat officials have stopped calling
President Trump a fascist and a Nazi long enough to essentially beg for a budget meeting with him
before the upcoming deadline. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer went on MSNBC with Joe Scarborough
and Mika Prisinski to express how deeply important it was to him that President Trump agreed to a
meeting over budget concessions. We Democrats definitely want to avert a shutdown. We know how bad it is.
And we're asking something very simple, Joe, for the president to sit down and talk with us.
You know, he's not the king.
He can't just dictate what happened.
He said he doesn't need Democrats.
Well, then he doesn't know how to count because there are 60 votes in the Senate that you need to pass this.
And he's got 53.
And frankly, when I was majority leader for four years, the last four, we didn't have a shutdown.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries followed a similar suit, trying to simultaneously,
say that Republicans are going to shut the government down, but also that Republicans need to work
with Democrats and should, and Trump should definitely meet with the Keme right away.
Republicans have clearly demonstrated they want to shut the government down. Throughout this process,
an intentional decision was made by Republican leadership in the House and the Senate,
not to have a single conversation with Democrats. They're not even,
pretending as if they want to find common ground. Donald Trump agrees to our demand on Saturday
to hold the meeting in the Oval Office to try to avert a government shutdown. The meeting is set
on Monday for later on in the week, and then Donald Trump wakes up Tuesday morning and goes
on an unhinged rant and cancels the meeting. Why? Because he doesn't want to discuss.
the Republican healthcare crisis, and they've decided to shut the government down.
And for good measure, here's President Trump responding back and forth to a reporter asking him
about whether or not he's going to meet with Senate and House Democrat leadership,
and whether or not a certain number of votes is required for the budget.
Can I ask you, uh, for a few days away?
By the way, here we go with this guy. Go ahead, let's go. Let's hear the questions.
She is away from the end of the fiscal year to potential shutdown.
Right.
They're going to be a government shutdown?
Could be, you know, because the Democrats are crazed.
They don't know what they're doing.
They want to have the border opened up so that criminals can pour in.
You know, we're doing unbelievable borders closed, and people are coming into our country legally.
They want to have, they continue to want to have men and women sports.
They continue to want to have transgender for everyone.
They want to raise everybody's taxes at a number that's not sustainable.
is the only time in the world
I've ever seen a party that wants to raise taxes.
You know, I grew up in a family where I'd watch politics,
and I always liked it from the time I was very young,
but I'd always see politicians say,
we will lower your taxes.
These guys, they campaign on raising your taxes,
that they want to raise taxes very substantial.
The one thing they're concerned about,
I mean, look, Public has a total control of Washington.
You guys have control.
How's the Senate?
There's you.
Well, when you say control.
So we need 60 votes for this.
We have 53 Republicans, so we need seven Democrats.
And those seven Democrats and others are asking for an extension of a tax credit on people who get the Affordable Care Act and some other get run back health care.
So are you willing to appreciate that.
Well, what they're really asking for is they want to pay for illegal aliens that have come into our country by the millions and get onto the rolls and they want to pay.
And our people don't want to do that.
Our people are taxed enough.
You know, we just approved the largest tax decrease ever the history of our country,
including the extension of the previous Trump tax cuts.
The tax cuts that we just approved, they want to use those tax cuts to give them money to illegal aliens,
people that came into our country illegally and that are leaving the country.
You know, there's been a self-deportation because of what we've been doing.
That's been incredible.
